This paper focuses on two main issues; first one is the impact of combination of multi-sensor images on the supervised learning classification accuracy using segment Fusion (SF). The second issue attempts to undertake the study of supervised machine learning classification technique of remote sensing images by using four classifiers like Parallelepiped (Pp), Mahalanobis Distance (MD), Maximum-Likelihood (ML) and Euclidean Distance(ED) classifiers, and their accuracies have been evaluated on their respected classification to choose the best technique for classification of remote sensing images. QuickBird multispectral data (MS) and panchromatic data (PAN) have been used in this study to demonstrate the enhancement and accuracy assessment of fused image over the original images using ALwassaiProcess software. According to experimental result of this study, is that the test results indicate the supervised classification results of fusion image, which generated better than the MS did. As well as the result with Euclidean classifier is robust and provides better results than the other classifiers do, despite of the popular belief that the maximum-likelihood classifier is the most accurate classifier.

Lidar sensors are often used in mobile robots and autonomous vehicles to complement camera, radar and ultrasonic sensors for environment perception. Typically, perception algorithms are trained to only detect moving and static objects as well as ground estimation, but intentionally ignore weather effects to reduce false detections. In this work, we present an in-depth analysis of automotive lidar performance under harsh weather conditions, i.e. heavy rain and dense fog. An extensive data set has been recorded for various fog and rain conditions, which is the basis for the conducted in-depth an…

Many hand-held or mixed reality devices are used with a single sensor for 3D reconstruction, although they often comprise multiple sensors. Multi-sensor depth fusion is able to substantially improve the robustness and accuracy of 3D reconstruction methods, but existing techniques are not robust enough to handle sensors which operate with diverse value ranges as well as noise and outlier statistics. To this end, we introduce SenFuNet, a depth fusion approach that learns sensor-specific noise and outlier statistics and combines the data streams of depth frames from different sensors in an online…

The information available to robots in real tasks is widely distributed both in time and space, requiring the agent to search for relevant data. In humans, that face the same problem when sounds, images and smells are presented to their sensors in a daily scene, a natural system is applied: Attention. As vision plays an important role in our routine, most research regarding attention has involved this sensorial system and the same has been replicated to the robotics field. However, most of the robotics tasks nowadays do not rely only in visual data, that are still costly. To allow the use of at…

Contrary to the ongoing trend in automotive applications towards usage of more diverse and more sensors, this work tries to solve the complex scene flow problem under a monocular camera setup, i.e. using a single sensor. Towards this end, we exploit the latest achievements in single image depth estimation, optical flow, and sparse-to-dense interpolation and propose a monocular combination approach (MonoComb) to compute dense scene flow. MonoComb uses optical flow to relate reconstructed 3D positions over time and interpolates occluded areas. This way, existing monocular methods are outperforme…
Although autonomous vehicles (AVs) are expected to revolutionize transportation, robust perception across a wide range of driving contexts remains a significant challenge. Techniques to fuse sensor data from camera, radar, and lidar sensors have been proposed to improve AV perception. However, existing methods are insufficiently robust in difficult driving contexts (e.g., bad weather, low light, sensor obstruction) due to rigidity in their fusion implementations. These methods fall into two broad categories: (i) early fusion, which fails when sensor data is noisy or obscured, and (ii) late fus…
In the application of machine learning to remote sensing, labeled data is often scarce or expensive, which impedes the training of powerful models like deep convolutional neural networks. Although unlabeled data is abundant, recent self-supervised learning approaches are ill-suited to the remote sensing domain. In addition, most remote sensing applications currently use only a small subset of the multi-sensor, multi-channel information available, motivating the need for fused multi-sensor representations. We propose a new self-supervised training objective, Contrastive Sensor Fusion, which exp…

Current object recognition methods fail on object sets that include both diffuse, reflective and transparent materials, although they are very common in domestic scenarios. We show that a combination of cues from multiple sensor modalities, including specular reflectance and unavailable depth information, allows us to capture a larger subset of household objects by extending a state of the art object recognition method. This leads to a significant increase in robustness of recognition over a larger set of commonly used objects.

We present a new method to combine evidential top-view grid maps estimated based on heterogeneous sensor sources. Dempster's combination rule that is usually applied in this context provides undesired results with highly conflicting inputs. Therefore, we use more advanced evidential reasoning techniques and improve the conflict resolution by modeling the reliability of the evidence sources. We propose a data-driven reliability estimation to optimize the fusion quality using the Kitti-360 dataset. We apply the proposed method to the fusion of LiDAR and stereo camera data and evaluate the result…

A major issue with Time of Flight sensors is the presence of multipath interference. We present Sparse Reflections Analysis (SRA), an algorithm for removing this interference which has two main advantages. First, it allows for very general forms of multipath, including interference with three or more paths, diffuse multipath resulting from Lambertian surfaces, and combinations thereof. SRA removes this general multipath with robust techniques based on $L_1$ optimization. Second, due to a novel dimension reduction, we are able to produce a very fast version of SRA, which is able to run at frame…

Multimodal problems are omnipresent in the real world: autonomous driving, robotic grasping, scene understanding, etc... We draw from the well-developed analysis of similarity to provide an example of a problem where neural networks are trained from different sensors, and where the features extracted from these sensors still carry similar information. More precisely, we demonstrate that for each sensor, the linear combination of the features from the last layer that correlates the most with other sensors corresponds to the classification components of the classification layer.
Fully autonomous driving systems require fast detection and recognition of sensitive objects in the environment. In this context, intelligent vehicles should share their sensor data with computing platforms and/or other vehicles, to detect objects beyond their own sensors' fields of view. However, the resulting huge volumes of data to be exchanged can be challenging to handle for standard communication technologies. In this paper, we evaluate how using a combination of different sensors affects the detection of the environment in which the vehicles move and operate. The final objective is to i…
This paper presents fast procedures for thermal infrared remote sensing in dark, GPS-denied environments, such as those found in industrial plants such as in High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) converter stations. These procedures are based on the combination of the depth estimation obtained from either a 1-Dimensional LIDAR laser or a 2-Dimensional Hokuyo laser or a 3D MultiSense SLB laser sensor and the visible and thermal cameras from a FLIR Duo R dual-sensor thermal camera. The combination of these sensors/cameras is suitable to be mounted on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and/or robots in…
This paper introduces and evaluates a hybrid technique that fuses efficiently the eye-tracking principles of photosensor oculography (PSOG) and video oculography (VOG). The main concept of this novel approach is to use a few fast and power-economic photosensors as the core mechanism for performing high speed eye-tracking, whereas in parallel, use a video sensor operating at low sampling-rate (snapshot mode) to perform dead-reckoning error correction when sensor movements occur. In order to evaluate the proposed method, we simulate the functional components of the technique and present our resu…
