We discuss the possibilities of producing the X(3872), which is assumed to be a D \bar D^* bound state, in radiative decays of charmonia. We argue that the ideal energy regions to observe the X(3872) associated with a photon in e^+e^- annihilations are around the Y(4260) mass and around 4.45 GeV, due to the presence of the S-wave D \bar D_1(2420) and D^* \bar D_1(2420) threshold, respectively. Especially, if the Y(4260) is dominantly a D \bar D_1 molecule and the X(3872) a D \bar D^* molecule, the radiative transition strength will be quite large.
The $J/ψ$ production is a powerful probe of hadron structure, which is complementary to other parts of the SPD physics program. In this work, the current experimental status and modern theoretical approaches to $J/ψ$ and charmonia production are reviewed. In this context, the SPD performance and feasibility of key measurements are discussed.
We show that the newly measured branching ratios of vector charmonia ($J/ψ$, $ψ^\prime$ and $ψ(3770))$ into $γP$, where $P$ stands for light pseudoscalar mesons $π^0$, $η$, and $η^\prime$, can be well understood in the framework of vector meson dominance (VMD) in association with the $η_c$-$η(η^\prime)$ mixings due to the axial gluonic anomaly. These two mechanisms behave differently in $J/ψ$ and $ψ^\prime\to γP$. A coherent understanding of the branching ratio patterns observed in $J/ψ(ψ^\prime)\to γP$ can be achieved by self-consistently including those transition mechanisms at hadronic leve…
The presented paper is devoted to theoretical analysis of charmonium mesons $η_c$, $J/ψ$, $χ_{c0,1,2}$, and $h_c$ production in exclusive radiative $Z$ boson decays in the frameworks of Nonrelativistic Chromodynamic and amplitude expansion on the light-cone. In the framework of light-cone expansion amplitudes and widths of all processes are described with one universal relation. It is interesting to note that from this relation it follows automatically which component of $Z$ boson (either vector or axial) gives contribution to the width of the particular decay. It is shown that the effect of i…
This work presents the differential charmonia production cross sections in high energy p+p collisions calculated using NRQCD formalism. The NRQCD formalism, factorizes the quarkonia production cross sections in terms of short distance QCD cross sections and long distance matrix elements (LDMEs). The short distance cross sections are calculated in terms of perturbative QCD and LDMEs are obtained by fitting the experimental data. Measured transverse momentum distributions of $χ_{\rm c}$, $ψ$(2S) and J/$ψ$ in p +{$\bar {\rm p}$} collisions at $\sqrt{s}=$ 1.8, 1.96 TeV and in p+p collisions at $\s…
In the framework of nonrelativistic QCD, we study the radiative decays of bottomonia into charmonia, including $Υ\to χ_{cJ}γ$, $Υ\to η_cγ$, $η_b\to J/ψγ$, and $χ_{bJ}\to J/ψγ$. We give predictions for their branching ratios with numerical calculations. E.g., we predict the branching ratio for $η_b\to J/ψγ$ is about $1\times 10^{-7}$. As a phenomenological model study, we further extend our calculation to the radiative decays of bottomonia into light mesons by assuming the $f_2(1270)$, $f_2'(1525)$ and other light mesons to be described by nonrelativistic $q\bar q ~(q=u,d,s)$ bound states with …
We consider exclusive double diffractive production of polarised axial-vector $χ_c(1^+)$ and tensor $χ_c(2^+)$ charmonia in proton-(anti)proton collisions at Tevatron energy. The corresponding amplitudes for these processes are derived within the $k_t$-factorisation approach. Contributions from different polarisation states of axial-vector and tensor charmonia are quantified. Corresponding experimental consequences are discussed.
Within a light-cone QCD formalism which incorporates color transparency (CT), coherence length (CL) effects and gluon shadowing (GS) we study electroproduction of charmonia off nuclei. In contrast to production of light vector mesons (rho^0, phi^0) when at small and medium energies CT and the onset of CL effects are not easily separated, in production of charmonia CT effects dominate. We found rather large CT effects in the range of Q^2 < 20 GeV^2. They are stronger at low than at high energies and can be easily identified by the planned future experiments. Our parameter-free calculations expl…
We present the results of our analysis on charmonia ($J/ψ$ and $ψ'$) hadroproduction taking into account higher-order QCD effects induced by initial-state radiation in a Monte Carlo framework, with the colour-octet mechanism implemented in the event generation. We find that those colour-octet matrix elements extracted so far from Fermilab Tevatron data for both $J/ψ$ and $ψ'$ production have to be lowered significantly. We finally make predictions for charmonia production at the LHC, presenting a code for a fast simulation with PYTHIA based on the colour-octet model.
As a test of the color-singlet mechanism of the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) factorization approach, we consider the exclusive two-quarkonium productions in electron-positron annihilation e+ e- -> eta_c + gamma and e+ e- -> J/psi + J/psi at B factories. The cross sections are computed to the next-to-leading order in alpha_s and are resummed to all orders in half the relative velocity v of the charm quark in each meson rest frame. The available theoretical prediction of the cross section for e+ e- -> J/psi + eta_c at the same level of theoretical accuracies is consistent with the available exper…
In the framework of quark-hadron duality, the cross section values of charmonium and doubly charmed baryon production in $e^+e^-$-annihilations have been estimated at interaction energy $\sqrt{s}=10.6$ GeV. It has been shown that the approach under discussion allows to resolve some contradictions between the experimental data and pQCD predictions.
We discuss the power scaling rules along the lines of a complete Heavy Quark Effective Field Theory (HQEFT) for the description of heavy quarkonium production through a color-octet mechanism. To this end, we firstly derive a tree-level heavy quark effective Lagrangian keeping both particle-antiparticle mixed sectors allowing for heavy quark-antiquark pair annihilation and creation, but describing only low-energy modes around the heavy quark mass. Then we show the consistency of using HQEFT fields in constructing four-fermion local operators a la NRQCD, to be identified with standard color-octe…
In the framework of a relativistic quark model constructed in an infinite momentum frame, corrections of the order of $v^{2}/c^{2}$ are obtained in the formulas which express amplitudes of the transitions $ψ(ψ') \to η_{_{c}}(η'_{_{c}})γ$, $χ_{_{J}} \to ψγ$, $ψ' \to χ_{_{J}}γ$, $h_{_{c}} \to η_{_{c}}γ$, $η'_{_{c}} \to h_{_{c}}γ$ through overlap integrals $\int ϕ^{*}_{f}(q) ϕ_{i}(q) d{\bf q}$, $\int ϕ^{*}_{f}(r)r ϕ_{i}(r) d{\bf r}$. These corrections lead to a considerable suppression of $Γ(ψ\toη_{_{c}}γ)$, however, they are insufficient to remove the existing disagreement of quark model predict…
We investigate two exclusive processes, e+ e- -> eta_c + gamma and e+ e- -> J/psi + J/psi, at the center-of-momentum energy sqrt{s}=10.58 GeV within the framework of the nonrelativistic QCD factorization approach. A class of relativistic corrections is resummed to all orders in the heavy-quark velocity v and the corrections are large negative. We further improve the prediction by including available QCD next-to-leading-order corrections and the interference between the QCD and relativistic corrections. The prediction for sigma[e+ e- -> eta_c + gamma] is about 50 fb. In the case of e+ e- -> J/p…
We consider the production of $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ mesons originating from the decays of $b$-flavored hadrons at the LHC using the $k_T$-factorization approach. Our analysis covers both inclusive charmonia production and production of $J/ψ$ mesons in association with $Z$ bosons. We apply the transverse momentum dependent (or unintegrated) gluon density in a proton derived from Catani-Ciafaloni-Fiorani-Marchesini (CCFM) evolution equation and adopt fragmentation functions based on the non-relativistic QCD factorization to describe the inclusive $b$-hadron decays into the different charmonium state…
This article is devoted to systematic analysis of double charmonium production in exclusive $Z$ boson decays in the framework of Nonrelativistic Quantum Chromodynamic (NRQCD) and leading twist light-cone (LC) models. Theoretical predictions for branching fractions of all considered decays are presented. According to obtained results in the case of allowed by helicity suppression rule processes the effect of internal quark motion increases the branching fraction by a factor 1.5, while for forbidden reactions LC predictions are strictly zero, while NRQCD ones are significantly smaller than for a…
Exotic charmonium-like states have been targeted by various experiments in the last 15 years, but their nature still is unknown. Photo-(muo)production is a new promising instrument to study them. COMPASS, a fixed target experiment at CERN, analyzed the full set of the data collected with a muon beam between 2002 and 2011, covering the range from 7 GeV to 19 GeV in the centre-of-mass energy of the (virtual)photon-nucleon system. Production of the X(3872) state in the reaction $μ^+~N \rightarrow μ^+(J/ψπ^+π^- )π^{\pm} N'$ has been observed with a statistical significance of around 5 $σ$. The sha…
In the presented paper production of charmonium state $\mathcal{Q}$ in exclusive $W\to\mathcal{Q} D_{s}^{(*)}$ decays is analyzed in the framework of both leading order Nonrelativistic Quantum Chromodynamics (NRQCD) and light-cone expansion (LC) models. Analytical and numerical predictions for the branching fractions of these decays in both approaches are given. The typical value of the branching fractions is $\sim 10^{-11}$ and it turns out the LC results are about 4 times lager than NRQCD ones, so the effect of internal quark should be taken into account. Some estimates of color-octet contri…
The masses of charmonium s and p-states, pseudoscalar and vector decay constants, leptonic, hadronic as well as radiative decay widths for charmonia have been computed in the framework of extended harmonic confinement model without any additional parameters. The outcome in comparison with other contemporary theoretical and experimental results is presented.
In this contribution, we will discuss our unquenched quark model re- sults for the spectra of cc and bb states. The spectra are calculated in the unquenched quark model formalism, where the physical mass of a meson is the sum of a bare mass contribution plus a self-energy correc- tion, due to the coupling to the meson-meson continuum. We will also discuss the quark structure of the X(3872). Its open-flavor and radiative decays are calculated in the quark model formalism. In our interpreta- tion, the wave function of the X(3872) is the sum of two contributions, a cc core plus higher Fock compon…
At the LHC energies, the underlying observables are of major topic of interest in high multiplicity $p+p$ collisions. Multiple Parton Interactions (MPI) is one of them, in which several interactions occur in a single $p+p$ collision. It is believed that MPI is the main reason behind the high multiplicity in $p+p$ collisions at the LHC. It was believed that MPI has only effect to the soft particle production, but recent ALICE result reveals that it can also affect the hard-particle production. In such case, the self normalized yield of heavy particle like $\rm J/ψ$ shows an increasing trend wit…
Using the color evaporation model, the cross section for charmonium production in p+p collision is calculated in quark-gluon plasma. The threshold energy for open charms is given by the free energy potential from lattice calculations, the initial charm quark pairs by the Pythia simulations, and their time evolution by solving the Langevin equation. It is found that the threshold energy which decreases with temperature reduces the cross section while the invariant mass of charm pair which decreases by collisions enhances it. As a result, charmonia production is suppressed by $30$\sim$50\%$ whil…
Coupled-channel effects due to coupling of charmonia to the charmed and anticharmed mesons are of current interest in heavy quarkonium physics. However, the effects have not been unambiguously established. In this paper, a clean method is proposed in order to examine the coupled-channel effects in charmonium transitions. We show that the hindered M1 radiative transitions from the 2P to 1P charmonia are suitable for this purpose. We suggest to measure one or more of the ratios Gamma(h_c'-->chi_{cJ} gamma)/Gamma(chi_{cJ}'-->chi_{cJ} pi^0) and Gamma(chi_{cJ}'-->h_c gamma)/Gamma(chi_{cJ}'-->chi_{c…
In the precedent paper of the authors (hep-ph/0510410), the $b\bar b$ states were treated in the framework of the spectral integral equation, together with simultaneous calculations of radiative decays of the considered bottomonia. In the present paper, such a study is carried out for the charmonium $(c\bar c)$ states. We reconstruct the interaction in the $c\bar c$-sector on the basis of data for the charmonium levels with $J^{PC}=0^{-+}$, $1^{--}$, $0^{++}$, $1^{++}$, $2^{++}$, $1^{+-}$ and radiative transitions $ψ(2S)\toγχ_{c0}(1P)$, $γχ_{c1}(1P)$, $γχ_{c2}(1P)$, $γη_{c}(1S)$ and $χ_{c0}(1P…
This paper gives results for the spectrum, all allowed E1 radiative partial widths (and some important M1 widths) and all open-charm strong decay amplitudes of all 40 c-cbar states expected up to the mass of the 4S multiplet, just above 4.4 GeV. The spectrum and radiative widths are evaluated using two models, the relativized Godfrey-Isgur model and a nonrelativistic potential model. The electromagnetic transitions are evaluated using Coulomb plus linear plus smeared hyperfine wavefunctions, both in a nonrelativistic potential model and in the Godfrey-Isgur model. The open-flavor strong decay …
A previously constructed transport approach to calculate the evolution of quarkonium yields and spectra in heavy-ion collisions is applied to Pb-Pb($\sqrt{s}$=2.76\,ATeV) collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In this approach spectral properties of charmonia are constrained by euclidean correlators from thermal lattice QCD and subsequently implemented into a Boltzmann equation accounting for both suppression and regeneration reactions. Based on a fair description of SPS and RHIC data, we provide predictions for the centrality dependence of $J/ψ$ yields at LHC. The main uncertainty is …
We study exclusive production of scalar $χ_{c0}\equiv χ_c(0^{++})$ and pseudoscalar $η_c$ charmonia states in proton-proton collisions at the LHC energies. The amplitudes for $gg \to χ_{c0}$ as well as for $gg \to η_c$ mechanisms are derived in the $k_{T}$-factorization approach. The $p p \to p p η_c$ reaction is discussed for the first time. We have calculated rapidity, transverse momentum distributions as well as such correlation observables as the distribution in relative azimuthal angle and $(t_1,t_2)$ distributions. The latter two observables are very different for $χ_{c0}$ and $η_c$ case…
We analyze the inclusive prompt production of $ψ^\prime$, $χ_c$, $J/ψ$ and $η_c$ mesons at the LHC using the $k_T$-factorization approach. Our consideration is based on the off-shell production amplitudes for hard partonic subprocesses, nonrelativistic QCD formalism for the formation of bound states and transverse momentum dependent (or unintegrated) gluon densities in a proton derived from Catani-Ciafaloni-Fiorani-Marchesini equation. The nonperturbative color octet transitions are treated in terms of the multipole radiation theory. We extract the corresponding long-distance matrix elements f…
In the framework of kt-factorization approach, the production and polarization of prompt psi(2S) mesons in pp collisions at the LHC energies is studied. Our consideration is based on the non-relativistic QCD formalism for bound states and off-shell amplitudes for hard partonic subprocesses. The transverse momentum dependent (unintegrated) gluon densities in a proton were derived from Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini evolution equation or, alternatively, were chosen in accordance with Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription. The non-perturbative color-octet matrix elements were first deduced from …

Our consideration is based on the non-relativistic QCD formalism for bound states and off-shell amplitudes for hard partonic subprocesses. Both the direct production mechanism and feed-down contributions from $χ_c$ and $ψ(2S)$ decays are taken into account. Recent measurements of the Belle Collaboration of the exclusive production of two charmonia in the $e^+e^-$ annihilation differ substantially from theoretical predictions. Recently it was suggested that a significant part of this discrepancy can be explained by the process $e^2e^- --> 2J/psi$ and value for its cross-section was published. In this paper it is shown, that these results are incorrect and the values for the cross-sections of the production of different vector charmonia are presented.
C-parity-even quarkonia eta_b,c and chi_b,c with spin 0 and 2 are produced via two-gluon fusion. The expected cross section of the inclusive production of the quarkonia at the LHC, times the branching ratios of convenient decays, is up to tens of nanobarn per unit rapidity in the case of charmonia and around one nanobarn for the bottomonia. Measuring the quarkonia production as function of rapidity will allow to determine the gluon distribution function in nucleons in a very broad range of the Bjorken x from x~10^(-2) where it is already known, down to x~10^(-6) where it is totally unknown. Th…
After the great triumph of the Higgs discovery in 2012, the next target at the energy frontier will be to study the Higgs properties and to search for the next scale beyond the SM. Experimentally, the $H\to c \bar{c}$ channel would be extremely difficult to dig out because of both the weak Yukawa coupling and the daunting SM di-jet background. We propose to test the charm-quark Yukawa coupling at the LHC and future hadron colliders with the Higgs boson decay to $J/ψ$ via the charm-quark fragmentation. Using the non-relativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD), we study the charmonia production …
We apply perturbative QCD to the radiative decays of charmonia $J/ψ$ and $χ_{cJ}$ into light mesons. We perform a complete numerical calculation for the quark-gluon loop diagrams involved in these processes. The calculated $J/ψ$ decay branching ratios to P-wave mesons $f_2(1270)$ and $f_1(1285)$ fit the data well, while that of $f_0(980)$ (if treated as an $s\bar s$ meson) is predicted to be $1.6\times 10^{-4}$, which implies that $f_0(1710)$ can not be the $s\bar s$ or $(u\bar u+d\bar d)/\sqrt{2}$ meson. Decays of P-wave charmonia $χ_{cJ}\to ρ(ω, ϕ)γ$ (J=0,1,2) are also studied, and the branc…
This paper is devoted to the leading twist exclusive bottomonia decays with double charmonium in the final state. Using models of the twist-2 charmonia distribution amplitudes the widths of these decays are calculated within light cone formalism. In addition, the processes under consideration are studied within nonrelativistic QCD. In our analysis we have found that the production of some of the $P$-wave charmonia mesons with $L_z \neq 0$ is allowed already at the leading twist approximation. This means that the selection rules which predict the suppression of such decays are violated. The mec…
We generalize results of lattice QCD to determine the spin-dependent symmetries and factorization properties of meson production in OZI allowed processes. This explains some conjectures previously made in the literature about axial meson decays and gives predictions for exclusive decays of vector charmonia, including ways of establishing the structure of Y(4260) and Y(4325) from their S-wave decays. Factorization gives a selection rule which forbids $e^+e^- \to D^* D_2$ near threshold with the tensor meson in helicity 2. The relations among amplitudes for double charmonia production $\e^+e^-\t…
Charmonia with different transverse momentum $p_T$ usually comes from different mechanisms in the relativistic heavy ion collisions. This work tries to review the theoretical studies on quarkonium evolutions in the deconfined medium produced in p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions. The charmonia with high $p_T$ are mainly from the initial hadronic collisions, and therefore sensitive to the initial energy density of the bulk medium. For those charmonia within $0.1<p_T<5$ GeV/c at the energies of Large Hadron Collisions (LHC), They are mainly produced by the recombination of charm and anti-charm quarks in …
Based on a general form of the effective vertex functions for the decays of P-wave charmonia $\chicj$, angular distribution formulas for the subsequent decays $\chicj\rightarrow \jpsi γ$ and $\jpsi \to μ^+μ^-$ are derived. The formulas are the same as those obtained in a different approach in the literature. Our formulas are expressed in a more general form, including parity violation effects and the full angular dependence of $\jpsi$ and muon in the cascade decay $\chicj\to\jpsiγ\toμ^+μ^-γ$. The $\chicj$ polarization observables are expressed in terms of rational functions of the spin density…
We investigate the production of psi(2S) in nuclear collisions at RHIC and LHC energies. We first address charmonium production in 200 GeV d-Au collisions at RHIC; the strong suppression of psi' mesons observed in these reactions indicates mechanisms beyond initial cold nuclear matter effects. We find that a more complete treatment of hadronic dissociation reactions leads to appreciable psi' suppression in the hadronic medium of an expanding fireball background for d-Au collisions. When implementing the updated hadronic reaction rates into a fireball for 2.76 TeV Pb-Pb collisions at LHC, the r…

Recently CLEO has studied the radiative decay of $Υ$ into $η'$ and an upper limit for the decay has been determined. Confronting with this upper limit, most of theoretical predictions for the decay fails. After briefly reviewing these predictions we re-examine the decay by separating nonperturbative effect related to the quarkonium and that related to $η'$ or $η$, in which the later is parameterized by distribution amplitudes of gluons in $η'$. With this factorization approach we obtain theoretical predictions which are in agreement with experiment. Uncertainties in our predictions are discusse…
Using the two-component model that includes charmonium production from initial nucleon-nucleon hard scattering and regeneration in the produced quark-gluon plasma, we study $J/ψ$ production in heavy ion collisions at SPS, RHIC and LHC. For the expansion dynamics of produced hot dense matter, we use a schematic viscous hydrodynamic model with the specific shear viscosity taken, respectively, to be twice and ten times the lower bound of $1/4π$ suggested by the Ads/CFT correspondence in the quark-gluon plasma and in the hadron gas. For the initial dissociation and the subsequent thermal decay of …
We reexamine the Fermi motion effects on the diffractive photo- and electroproductions of heavy vector-mesons, J/psi and psi', off a nucleon in the leading ln(Q^2/Lambda_QCD^2) approximation (LLA) of QCD. We take into account all the Fermi motion corrections arising from the relative motion of quarks inside the charmonium, which is treated as a nonrelativistic bound state of c and \bar{c}. Our key ingredients are the correct spin structure for the ^3S_1 c\bar{c} bound state, the off-shellness in the c\bar{c} \to J/psi (psi') hadronization vertex, and the modification of the gluon's longitudina…
We derive relations among branching fractions in the exclusive decay of charmonia to light flavour meson pairs assuming factorization between the quark spin and spatial degrees of freedom. With the further assumption that these amplitudes can be described by flux-tube models, we assess prospects for production of hybrid mesons in charmonium decays.
We present that including the hadron loop effects could help us to understand the spectrum of the heavier charmonium-like states and their decays simultaneously. The observed states could be represented by the poles on the complex energy plane. By coupling to the opened thresholds, the pole positions are shifted from the bare states predicted in the quenched potential model to the complex energy plane. The pole masses are generally pulled down from the bare masses and the open-charm decay widths are related to the imaginary parts of the pole positions. Moreover, we also analyze the pole trajec…
We present the main results of our recent analyses of exclusive production of vector charmonia ($J/ψ$ and $ψ'$) in $k_t$-factorization approach and for $γγ$ production of charged dilepton pairs in exclusive and semiinclusive processes in a new approach, similar in spirit to $k_t$-factorization. The results for charmonia are compared with recent results of the LHCb collaboration. We include some helicity flip contributions and quantify the effect of absorption correction. The effect of $c \bar c$ wave function is illustrated. We present uncertainties related to $F_2$ structure function which ar…
In this paper, we study double charmonia production in Upsilon peaks, especially, a S-wave charmonium $η_c$ and a P-wave charmonium $h_c(^1P_1)$, or a S-wave charmonium $J/ψ$ and the $X(3940)$ and $X(4160)$ within the nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) approach which is a powerful tool to realize the factorization of double charmonia production in electron-positron annihilation. The $J^{PC}=1^{--}$ state $Υ(nS)$ can provide an ideal laboratory for studying the properties of double-heavy quarkonium and also can separate the perturbative and nonperturbative parts due to the large heavy quark mass compa…
