We report results on jet production in pp and Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC from the ALICE collaboration. The jet cross section in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=2.76 TeV is presented, as well as the charged particle jet production cross section and measurements of the jet fragmentation and jet shape in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$=7 TeV. NLO pQCD calculations and simulations from MC event generators agree well with the data. Measurements of jets with a resolution parameter $R$=0.2 in Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s}_{NN}$=2.76 TeV show a strong, momentum dependent suppression in central events with respect to pp collisions. The centrality dependence of the suppression of charged particle jets relative to peripheral events is presented. The ratio of jet spectra with $R$=0.2 and $R$=0.3 is found to be similar in pp and Pb-Pb events. The analysis of the semi-inclusive distribution of charged particle jets recoiling from a high-$p_{\rm T}$ trigger hadron allows an unbiased measurement of the jet structure for larger cone radii.
Measurements of jet yields in heavy-ion collisions can be used to constrain jet energy loss models, and in turn provide information about the physical properties of deconfined QCD matter. ALICE reconstructs charged particle jets ($\textit{charged jets}$) with high-precision tracking of charged particles down to $p_{\mathrm{T}}^{\mathrm{track}} = 150$ MeV/$c$, and jets ($\textit{full jets}$) with the addition of particle information from the electromagnetic calorimeter down to $E_{\mathrm{cluster}} = 300$ MeV. By including low momentum jet constituents, ALICE is uniquely positioned at the LHC t…
These proceedings report on measurements of the jet spectrum and nuclear modification factor for inclusive full jets (containing both charged and neutral constituents) in Pb-Pb and pp collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV recorded with the ALICE detector. These measurements use a machine learning based background correction, which reduces residual fluctuations. This method allows for measurements to lower transverse momenta and larger jet resolution parameter (R) than previously possible in ALICE. In this method, machine learning techniques are used to correct the jet transverse momentu…
We present the current status of the measurement of jets that contain a D meson (D-tagged jets) with ALICE. D-meson candidates, identified via their hadronic decay channels, were combined with the other charged tracks reconstructed with the central tracking system, using the anti-$k_{\rm T}$ jet-finding algorithm. The yield of D-tagged jets was extracted through an invariant mass analysis of the D-meson candidates. A Monte Carlo simulation was used to determine the detector performance and validate the signal extraction techniques.
Jets correlated with isolated photons are a promising channel to study jet quenching in heavy-ion collisions, as photons do not interact strongly and therefore constrain the $Q^2$ of the initial hard scattering. We present the isolated photon-jet correlations measured in Pb--Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\text{NN}}}$ = 5.02 TeV by the ALICE collaboration. We study correlations of isolated photons above 20 GeV/$c$ with charged-particle jets above 10 GeV/$c$, reconstructed with the anti-$k_\text{T}$ algorithm. The correlations probe the lowest jet $p_\text{T}$ range ever measured at LHC energies, a…
Jet quenching, a standard signature of quark--gluon plasma (QGP) formation in which jets lose energy by traversing the medium, comprises a well-studied set of observables in heavy-ion collisions. Significant questions remain, however, concerning the mechanisms driving this phenomenon. Theoretical work that attempts to address these open questions offers the path-length dependence of jet energy loss as one way to better understand the underlying mechanisms of jet quenching. It has proven challenging, however, to derive explicit values for the path-length dependence from experimental data. These…
Reconstruction of jets in high-energy heavy-ion collisions is challenging due to the large and fluctuating background coming from the underlying event. We report results on full jet reconstruction, obtained from data collected in 2011 by the ALICE detector at LHC for Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=2.76~\mathrm{TeV}$. The analysis makes use of the tracking system and the electromagnetic calorimeter. Signal jets, which come from hard scattered partons, are reconstructed using the anti-$k_{\mathrm{T}}$ jet finder algorithm. The average background is subtracted on a jet-by-jet basis t…
Jet suppression has been observed in central heavy ion collisions. This suppression is attributed to partonic energy loss in the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) formed in such collisions. However, this measurement is influenced by all stages of the collision. It is expected that in p-Pb collisions similar initial conditions occur as in Pb-Pb collisions without creating a QGP, allowing modification to the jet spectra due to cold nuclear matter effects to be quantified. Inclusive jet spectra in p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}} = 5.02$ TeV measured by ALICE are presented. Jets are reconstructed via…
The characterization of the jet substructure can give insight into the microscopic nature of the modification induced on high-momentum partons by the Quark-Gluon Plasma that is formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. Jet shapes allow us to study the modification of parton to jet fragmentation and virtuality, probing jet energy redistribution, intra-jet broadening or collimation and possible flavour hierarchy. Results of a selected set of jet shapes will be presented for $\mbox{p--Pb}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\scriptscriptstyle \rm NN}}= 5.02~\mathrm{TeV}$ and for $\mbox{Pb--Pb}$ col…
Highly energetic jets and photons are complementary probes for the kinematics and the topology of nuclear collisions. Jets are collimated sprays of charged and neutral particles, which are produced in the fragmentation of hard scattered partons in an early stage of the collision. While traversing the medium formed in nuclear collisions, they lose energy and therefore carry information about the interaction of partons with the medium. The jet substructure is particularly interesting to learn about in-medium modification of the jets and several observables exists to probe it. In contrast to jets…
The large statistics accumulated during the LHC Run-1 and Run-2 have provided the unique opportunity to study the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma using rare hard probes. The ALICE Collaboration has presented new results on the jet shape observables in p--Pb and Pb--Pb collision. Using data from Run-2, the elliptic flow of open and hidden charm mesons have been measured with much better precision, confirming that charm quarks participate in the collective dynamic expansion with the medium. In p--Pb collisions the absence of jet quenching correlated with high event activity has been confirm…

We present the analysis of the semi-inclusive distribution of reconstructed charged particle jets recoiling from a high pT hadron trigger in central Pb Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=2.76$ TeV. We measure, subtract and unfold the large underlying event background in such collisions, utilizing a novel technique that does not impose fragmentation bias on the measured jet population. The Pb Pb measurements are compared to a pp PYTHIA reference distribution generated at the same $\sqrt{s}$. Modification of jet structure due to quenching is explored by varying the cone radius $R$ (0.2, 0.4) and th…
Jets and direct photons are used to probe the formation and the properties of the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) by the ALICE Collaboration. The results shown here will present the measurements obtained from Pb$-$Pb and p$-$Pb collisions. It is observed that in Pb$-$Pb collisions jets are collimated and hadron yields ($π^{0}$ and $η$) at high transverse momentum undergo strong suppression due to the interaction of the patrons with the QGP. On the other hand, photons do not show any suppression in this region, and, in addition, an excess attributed to a thermal emission is observed at low transverse …

Jets in relativistic heavy-ion collisions (HICs) interact with the quark-gluon plasma (QGP), leading to effects such as a suppression of jet yields and a modification of internal jet structure that are used to measure the properties of the QGP. These proceedings show the inclusive jet nuclear modification factors in Pb--Pb collisions in various centrality classes at $\sqrt{s_{\rm NN}}$ = 5.02 TeV recorded with the ALICE detector for resolution parameters up to $R$ = 0.6 for momenta down to 40 GeV/$c$. The analysis utilizes machine learning techniques to correct the large background in HICs, ex…

ALICE reconstructs jets at midrapidity using the anti-$k_{\mathrm{T}}$ algorithm, including both charged particle jets from the ALICE tracking detectors, and full jets from the combination of the ALICE electromagnetic calorimeter with the tracking system. We focus on inclusive and semi-inclusive jet measurements as well as jet substructure measurements, including a variety of groomed and ungroomed observables. In pp collisions, these results test pQCD techniques at $p_{\mathrm{T,\;jet}}<140$ GeV$/c$ in a lo…
Full Jet Reconstruction in 2.76 TeV pp and Pb-Pb collisions in the ALICE experiment

Jets of high energy collimated particles provide a rich phenomenology to study quantum chromodynamics, from first-principles tests of perturbative calculations to investigations of the emergent properties of the strongly-coupled quark-gluon plasma. In these proceedings, we highlight several recent jet measurements by the ALICE Collaboration, with a focus on jet substructure observables.
We discuss the latest results from jet fragmentation and jet substructure measurements performed with the ALICE experiment in proton-proton and heavy-ion collisions in a wide range of jet transverse momentum. The jet production cross sections and cross section ratios for different jet resolution parameters will be shown in a wide range of $p_{\textrm{T}}$. Results will be compared to next-to-leading order pQCD calculations.
We present the centrality dependence of particle production in p-A collisions at sqrt(s_NN) = 5.02 TeV measured by the ALICE experiment, including the pseudo-rapidity and transverse momentum spectra, with a special emphasis on the event classification in centrality classes and its implications for the interpretation of the nuclear effects.
Hard-scattered partons provide an ideal probe for the study of the Quark-Gluon Plasma because they are produced prior to the formation of the QCD medium in heavy-ion collisions. Jet production is therefore susceptible to modifications induced by the presence of the medium ("jet quenching"). Both RHIC and LHC experiments have provided compelling evidence of jet quenching. Jets are reconstructed in ALICE utilizing the central tracking system for the charged constituents and the Electromagnetic Calorimeter for the neutral constituents. Jet spectra are reported for central (0-10%) and semi-central…
Open heavy-flavour and quarkonia measurements are important tools to study the hot and dense partonic medium formed in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions. The modification of their production in those collisions, with respect to the pp and p-Pb ones, can help in the characterization of this medium. Quarkonia and open heavy-flavour production is measured in ALICE in the three different collision systems, at mid- and forward rapidity. A selection of those results recently obtained in Pb-Pb and p-Pb collisions by the ALICE Collaboration is presented.

Jets lose energy as they propagate through the Quark-Gluon Plasma, modifying their parton shower. Jet substructure, which provides access to the evolution of jet splittings, is expected to be sensitive to interactions between the medium and the jet, providing the opportunity to further constrain both jet and medium properties. By utilizing grooming techniques, we can focus on the most pertinent hard splittings. Of particular interest is the search for large transverse momentum kicks which may indicate the presence of point-like scatters within the Quark-Gluon Plasma. We explore the jet substru…
We present recent result on strange and non-strange D-meson production measured with ALICE in Pb--Pb collisions at the LHC. In addition, the measurements of the $Λ_{\rm c}^+$-baryon production and of the $Λ_{\rm c}^+/{\rm D^0}$ ratio in pp, p--Pb, and, for the first time ever, Pb--Pb collisions are reported.
The hot, dense and strongly interacting medium known as the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP) is produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Early in the collisions, quarks and gluons from the incoming nuclei collide to produce high momentum partons which fragment into collimated sprays of hadrons called "jets". In pp collisions, jet production is well understood within the framework of perturbative QCD and acts as a rigorous baseline measurement for jet quenching measurements. Using pp as a reference, we can compare to heavy-ion collision systems, and study the mo…
We present measurements of charged jet cross sections and jet shape observables in leading jet in proton-proton (pp) collisions at sqrt(s) = 2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at LHC. Jets are reconstructed at the midrapidity from charged particle using sequential recombination anti-kT jet finding algorithm for various R values. The results are compared to measurements from HERWIG, PHOJET and different tunes of PYTHIA6 and earlier measurements at 7 TeV.
Jets are generated in hard interactions in high-energy nuclear collisions. Jets propagate through the quark-gluon plasma (QGP) as the jet shower evolves; their interaction with the QGP, known as jet quenching, generates observable phenomena that provide incisive probes of the structure and dynamics of the QGP. For instance, medium-induced modification of jet substructure probes color coherence, and may be sensitive to differences in quark and gluon energy loss due to their different Casimir factors. Jet grooming can be used to focus on specific regions of phase space, isolating medium-induced …
The ALICE Collaboration has measured heavy-flavour production through the reconstruction of hadronic decays of D mesons at mid-rapidity and via semi-electronic (at mid-rapidity) and semi-muonic (at forward rapidity) decays of charm and beauty hadrons in pp, p-Pb and Pb-Pb collisions. A summary of the most recent results from p-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=5.02$ TeV and Pb-Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}} = 2.76$ TeV is presented in this paper.
