We study the classical and quantum models of a Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) cosmology in the framework of the gravity theory proposed by Hořava, the so-called Hořava-Lifshitz theory of gravity. Beginning with the ADM representation of the action corresponding to this model, we construct the Lagrangian in terms of the minisuperspace variables and show that in comparison with the usual Einstein-Hilbert gravity, there are some correction terms coming from the Hořava theory. Either in the matter free or in the case when the considered universe is filled with a perfect fluid, the exact solutions to the classical field equations are obtained for the flat, closed and open FRW model and some discussions about their possible singularities are presented. We then deal with the quantization of the model in the context of the Wheeler-DeWitt approach of quantum cosmology to find the cosmological wave function. We use the resulting wave functions to investigate the possibility of the avoidance of classical singularities due to quantum effects.
Classical and quantum Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker universes filled with non-interacting radiation and dust fluids are considered in the framework of Hořava-Lifshitz gravity theory. The Hořava-Lifshitz theory is set in its projectable version and without detailed balance condition. Canonical quantization is performed in the Wheeler-DeWitt approach of quantum cosmology for a minisuperspace model in the light of de Broglie-Bohm interpretation of quantum mechanics. The main results are analytical solutions for non-singular quantum bounce and cyclic universes for open and closed spatial sec…
In this work, we study the Friedmann-Robertson-Walker cosmology in which a Chaplygin gas is coupled to a non-linear scalar field in the framework of the Hořava-Lifshitz theory. In writing the action of the matter part, we use the Schutz's formalism so that the only degree of freedom of the Chaplygin gas plays the role of an evolutionary parameter. In a minisuperspace perspective, we construct the Lagrangian for this model and show that in comparison with the usual Einstein-Hilbert gravity, there are some correction terms coming from the Hořava theory. In such a set-up and by using of some appr…
In this paper, we study a projectable Hořava-Lifshitz cosmology without the detailed balance condition minimally coupled to a non-linear self-coupling scalar field. In the minisuperspace framework, the super Hamiltonian of the presented model is constructed by means of which, some classical solutions for scale factor and scalar field are obtained. Since these solutions exhibit various types of singularities, we came up with the quantization of the model in the context of the Wheeler-DeWitt approach of quantum cosmology. The resulting quantum wave functions are then used to investigate the poss…
We study Euclidean wormholes in the framework of the Horava-Lifshitz theory of gravity. Euclidean wormholes first appeared in the Euclidean path integral approach to quantum gravity. In a more general way, Hawking and Page interpreted such configurations as solutions to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation with appropriate boundary conditions. We use the projectable version of Horava-Lifshitz gravity to obtain the Wheeler-DeWitt equation of a minisuperspace model considering a closed Friedmann Universe plus a massless scalar field. For large values of the scale factor we find that the solution of the W…
In this work we intend to address the matter-antimatter asymmetry via the gravitational baryogenesis mechanism in the background of a quantum theory of gravity. We investigate this mechanism under the framework of Ho$\check{r}$ava-Lifshitz gravity. We will compute the baryon-to-entropy ratio in the chosen framework and investigate its physical viability against the observational bounds. We also conduct the above study for various sources of matter like scalar field and Chaplygin gas as specific examples. We speculate that quantum corrections from the background geometry will lead to interestin…
A discussion of inhomogeneity is indispensable to understand quantum cosmology, even if one uses the dynamics of homogeneous geometries as a first approximation. While a full quantization of inhomogeneous gravity is not available, a broad framework of effective field theory provides important ingredients for quantum cosmology. Such a setting also allows one to take into account lessons from the Belinski-Khalatnikov-Lifshitz (BKL) scenario. Based on several new ingredients, this article presents conditions on various parameters and mathematical constructions that appear in minisuperspace models…
A discrete quantum spin system is presented in which several modern methods of canonical quantum gravity can be tested with promising results. In particular, features of interacting dynamics are analyzed with an emphasis on homogeneous configurations and the dynamical building-up and stability of long-range correlations. Different types of homogeneous minisuperspace models are introduced for the system, including one based on condensate states, and shown to capture different aspects of the discrete system. They are evaluated with effective methods and by means of continuum limits, showing good…
The Wheeler-DeWitt equation for a Kantowski-Sachs metric in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity with a set of coordinates in minisuperspace that obey a generalized uncertainty principle is studied. We first study the equation coming from a set of coordinates that obey the usual uncertainty principle and find analytic solutions in the infrared as well as a particular ultraviolet limit that allows us to find the solution found in Hořava-Lifshitz gravity with projectability and with detailed balance but now as an approximation of the theory without detailed balance. We then consider the coordinates that obey…
We investigate the validity of a \emph{minimal} cosmological model derived from the renormalizable Ho$\check{\textrm{r}}$ava action at low redshift scales by using different cosmological and statistical tests. Assuming pure attractive gravity, i.e., $λ>1/3$ in the Ho$\check{\textrm{r}}$ava action, we compare the Union 2.1 supernova type Ia data with the kinematics following from a model-independent approach. The two approaches, although compatible, lead to explicit cosmographic constraints on the free parameters of the Ho$\check{\textrm{r}}$ava action, which turn out to be in strong disagreeme…
Quantum cosmology of the Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker model with cosmological constant in the Ho$\check{\rm r}$ava-Lifshitz type gravity is studied in the phase space by means of the Wigner function. The modification of the usual general relativity description by the Ho$\check{\rm r}$ava-Lifshitz type gravity induces a new scenario for the origin of the Universe with an embryonic era where the Universe can exist classically before the tunneling process takes place and which gives rise to the current evolution of the Universe. The Wigner functions corresponding to the Hartle-Hawking, Vil…
The modified field equations are written in logarithmic and power law versions of entropy corrected models in Einstein's gravity in the background of FRW universe. In one section, a brief review of the Ho$\check{\text r}$ava-Lifshitz gravity is discussed and the modified field equations in logarithmic and power law versions of entropy corrected models in Ho$\check{\text r}$ava-Lifshitz gravity are formulated. The stability analysis for these models are performed by describing the dynamical system. In another section, a brief review of the fractal universe is presented and the modified field eq…
In the quantum treatment of collapsing matter, a viable mode analysis is supposed to give information regarding emission during the collapse. Nevertheless, partly owing to operator ordering ambiguities involved in a typical quantum gravity analysis, the availability of such well-defined modes is not guaranteed. We study the mode decomposition of the unitarily evolving wave packet constructed for the quantum model of spherically symmetric dust collapsing in a marginally bound Lema\^ıtre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) model. We identify the observable depicting mode decomposition, and using the freedom of o…
We provide a quantum picture for the emergence of a bouncing cosmology, according to the idea that a semiclassical behavior of the Universe towards the singularity is not available in many relevant Minisuperspace models. In particular, we study the Bianchi I model in vacuum adopting the isotropic Misner variable as an internal clock for the quantum evolution. The isomorphism between the Wheeler-DeWitt equation in this Minisuperspace representation and the Klein-Gordon one for a relativistic scalar field allows to identify the positive and negative frequency solutions as associated to the colla…
We perform a detailed study on the integrability of the Hoř% ava-Lifshitz scalar field cosmology in a Friedmann--Lema\^ı% tre--Robertson--Walker background spacetime. The approach we follow to determine the integrability is that of the Singularity Analysis. More specifically, we test if the gravitational field equations possesses the Painlevé property. For the exponential potential of the scalar field we are able to perform an analytic explicit integration of the field equations and write the solution in terms of Laurent expansion and more specifically write the solution in terms of Right Pain…
On the path towards quantum gravity, we find friction between temporal relations in quantum mechanics (QM) (where they are fixed and field-independent), and in general relativity (where they are field-dependent and dynamic). This paper aims to attenuate that friction, by encoding gravity in the timeless configuration space of spatial fields with dynamics given by a path integral. The framework demands that boundary conditions for this path integral be uniquely given, but unlike other approaches where they are prescribed --- such as the no-boundary and the tunneling proposals --- here I postula…
In a previous work we derived an effective Hamiltonian constraint for the Schwarzschild geometry starting from the full loop quantum gravity Hamiltonian constraint and computing its expectation value on coherent states sharply peaked around a spherically symmetric geometry. We now use this effective Hamiltonian to study the interior region of a Schwarzschild black hole, where a homogeneous foliation is available. Descending from the full theory, our effective Hamiltonian, though still bearing the well known ambiguities of the quantum Hamiltonian operator, preserves all relevant information abo…
