We investigate the weak decays of $B_c$ mesons in Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa favored and suppressed modes. We present a detailed analysis of the $B_c$ meson decaying to vector meson (V) and axial-vector meson (A) in the final state. We also give the form factors involving $B_c \to A$ transition in the Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise II framework and consequently, predict the branching ratios of $B_c \to V A$ and $AA$ decays.
We study Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) favored weak decays of Bc mesons in the Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise (ISGW) quark model. We present a detailed analysis of the Bc meson decaying to a pseudoscalar meson (P) and an axial-vector meson (A). We also give the form factors involving transition in the ISGW II framework and consequently, predict the branching ratios of decays.
Two body nonleptonic weak decays of bottom mesons to a pseudoscalar meson and an axial-vector meson involving charmed states are studied using the non-relativistic quark model. We calculate the branching ratios of these decays by employing the factorization hypothesis. Obtained results are in good agreement with the existing experimental data. We also calculated the branching ratios in the light of heavy quark symmetry constraints and compared with the exiting theoretical analyses.
The large branching ratio for B-> K1 gamma recently measured at Belle implies a large B -> K1 transition form factor and large branching ratios for non leptonic B decays involving an axial-vector meson. In this paper we present an analysis of two-body B decays with an axial-vector meson in the final state using naive factorization and the B -> K1 form factors obtained from the measured radiative decays. We find that the predicted B -> J/psi K1 branching ratio is in agreement with experiment. We also suggest that the decay rates of B -> K1 pi, B -> a1 K and B -> b1 K could be used to test the f…
Branching ratios observed for $D$ and B decays to final states $a_1(1260)^{\pm} X$ are comparable to those for corresponding decays to $π^{\pm} X$ and $ρ^{\pm} X$ and much larger than those for all other decays. Implications are discussed of a "vector-dominance model" in which a $W$ is produced and immediately turns into an axial vector, vector or pseudoscalar meson. Data for decays to all such final states are shown to have large branching ratios and satisfy universality relations. Upper limits on small strong phase differences between amplitudes relevant to CP violation models are obtained f…
In this work, we use the QCD sum rule method to study the radiative decays of the vector and axial-vector $B_c$ mesons to each of three charmed strange mesons, $D_s$, $D^*_s$ and $D_{s1}$, through their dominant weak annihilation channels. We calculate all relevant transition form factors, which are used to estimate the branching fractions at different channels. The order of branching ratios are obtained to be in the order of $ 10^{-6} - 10^{-5} $, which may be checked via differnet experiments.
We show that a single $I=1$ spin-parity $J^{PC}= 1^{++}$ $a_1$ resonance can manifest itself as two separated mass peaks, one decaying into an S-wave $ρπ$ system and the second decaying into a P-wave $f_0(980)π$ system, with a rapid increase of the phase difference between their amplitudes arising mainly from the structure of the diffractive production process. This study clarifies questions related to the mass, width, and decay rates of the $a_1$ resonance raised by the recent high statistics data of the COMPASS collaboration on $a_1$ production in $πN \rightarrow πππN$ at high energies.
We present a systematic study of exclusive charmless nonleptonic two-body B decays including axial-vector mesons in the final state. We calculate branching ratios of B\to PA, VA and AA decays, where A, V and P denote an axial-vector, a vector and a pseudoscalar meson, respectively. We assume naive factorization hypothesis and use the improved version of the nonrelativistic ISGW quark model for form factors in B\to A transitions. We include contributions that arise from the effective ΔB=1 weak Hamiltonian H_{eff}. The respective factorized amplitude of these decays are explicitly showed and the…
Branching ratio for B -> K_1 gamma at next-to-leading order of alpha_s has been calculated in Large Energy Effective Theory. By incorporating the higher twist effects in light cone decay amplitude for axial K-meson, it is shown that the form factor is not sensitive to these twists.
We report our theoretical calculations on the branching fractions for the semileptonic $B$ and $B_s$ decays, i.e., $B (B_s) \to (P,\, V,\, S,\,A) \ell ν_\ell$, where $P$ and $V$ denote the pseudoscalar and vector mesons, respectively, while $S$ denotes the scalar meson with mass above 1 GeV and $A$ the axial-vector meson. The branching fractions for the semileptonic $B\to P$ and $V$ modes have been measured very well in experiment and our theoretical values are in good agreement with them. The ones for $B\to S$ and $A$ modes are our theoretical predictions. There is little experimental informa…
The axial-vector emitting weak hadronic decays of $Ω_c^0$ baryon are investigated. After employing the factorization and the pole model framework to predict their branching ratios, we derive the symmetry breaking effects on axial-vector-meson-baryon couplings and effects of flavor dependence on baryon-baryon weak transition amplitudes and, consequently, on their branching ratios. We found that the W-exchange process contributions dominate $p$-wave meson emitting decays of $Ω_c^0$ baryon.
Axial-vector mesons $a_1(1260)$, $f_1(1285)$, $h_1(1170)$, $K_1(1270)$, and $K_1(1400)$ can be produced in semileptonic $τ\to A P ν_τ$ decays, where $P$ stands for the pseudoscalar mesons $π$ or $K$. We calculate the branching ratios based in a meson dominance model. The exclusive channels $τ^-\to a_1(1260)^-π^0ν$, $τ^-\to a_1(1260)^0π^-ν$, and $τ^-\to h_1(1170)π^-ν$ turn out to be of order ${\cal O}(10^{-3})$, the channel $τ^-\to f_1(1285)π^-ν$ of order ${\cal O}(10^{-4})$, and channels $τ^-\to K_1(1270)^-π^0ν$, $τ^-\to K_1(1270)^0π^-ν$, $τ^-\to K_1(1400)^-π^0ν$, and $τ^-\to K_1(1400)^0π^-ν$ …
The new BES measurement on the two-body decays of J/psi and psi' into an axial-vector meson and a pseudoscalar meson is analyzed with the axial-K mixing including the one-photon annihilation contribution. A somewhat puzzling pattern of the K_1^+ K^- decay channels can be understood with no tight constraint on the mixing angle. The branching fractions of the K_1^0 K-bar^0 channels will be the cleanest source of information to determine the mixing angle from the 1^+ 0^- decays of J/psi and psi'.
In this paper we explore the decay $η_b --> τ^+ τ^-$ as a probe for a light pseudoscalar or a light axial vector state. We estimate the standard model branching ratio for this decay to be $~4\times 10^{-9}$. We show that considerably larger branching ratios, up to the present experimental limit of ~8%, is possible in models with a light pseudoscalar or a light axial vector state. As we do not include possible mixing effects between the light pseudoscalar and the $η_b$, our results should be reliable when the pseudoscalar mass is away from the $η_b$ mass.
A quarkonium-gluonium mixing scheme previously developed to describe the characteristic of the pseudoscalar mesons is applied to axial and tensor mesons. The parameters of the model are determined by fitting the eigenvalues of a mass matrix. The corresponding eigenvectors give the proportion of light quarks, strange quarks and glueball in each meson. However the predictions of the model for branching ratios and electromagnetic decays are incompatible with the experimental results. These results suggest the absence of gluonic components in the states of axial and tensor isosinglet mesons analyz…
We consider a decaying scalar dark matter (DM) with mass $m_χ$ in the range 10 GeV - 10 TeV and vary the branching ratios of all possible two-body SM final states (excluding and including $ν\barν$) in the range $0\%-100\%$ to derive constraints on the total decay width $Γ$ using the data collected by several astrophysical and cosmological observations. We find that, $Γ\lesssim 10^{-26} - 10^{-27}\,{\rm s}^{-1}$ (excluding $ν\barν$) and $Γ\lesssim 10^{-24} - 10^{-26}\,{\rm s}^{-1}$ (including $ν\barν$) are allowed, depending on the values of $m_χ$, which are most robust upper limits on $Γ$ for …
We consider a $N_f=3$ chiral Lagrangian which describes the interaction between the pseudoscalar glueball, $J^{PC}=0^{-+}$, and scalar and pseudoscalar mesons. We calculate the decay widths of the pseudoscalar glueball, where we fixed its mass to 2.6 GeV, as predicted by lattice QCD simulations, and take a closer look in the scalar-isoscalar decaying channel. We present our results as branching ratios which are relevant for the future PANDA experiment at the FAIR facility.
We study long-distance effects in rare exclusive semileptonic decays B -> K_{1}ell ^{+}ell ^{-}, K_{1} is the axial vector meson. The form factors, describing the meson transition amplitudes of the effective Hamiltonian, are calculated using Ward identites which are then used to calculate branching ratio and forward-backward asymmetry in these decay modes. The zero of forward-backward asymmetry is of special interest and provide us the precission test of Standard model.
We propose a phenomenological Lagrangian for the decay of the SU(3) nonets of the axial-vector mesons of $J^{PC}=1^{+-},1^{++}$ into a vector meson and a pseudoscalar constructed with tensor fields for the vector and axial-vector mesons. The formulation leads to a good reproduction of the different decay branching ratios and assuming vector meson dominance (VMD) it also leads to good results for the radiative decay of the $a_1$ into pion and photon, and in agreement with the structure proposed in the chiral tensor formulation of radiative decay of axial-vector mesons. The two SU(3) parameters …
I introduce the properties of the light axial-vector mesons. The branching ratios, longitudinal fractions and direct CP asymmetries of the related charmless two-body B decays into final states involving two axial-vector mesons ($AA$) or one vector and one axial-vector meson ($VA$) are discussed within the framework of QCD factorization.
The decays of $τ\to 3πν$ and $τ\to πK^{*} ν, Kρν$ are calculated using the hard pion and kaon current algebra and assuming the Axial-Vector meson dominance of the hadronic axial currents. Using the experimental data on their masses and widths, the $τ$ decay branching ratios into these channels are calculated and found to be in a reasonable agreement with the experimental data. In particular, using the available Aleph data on the $3π$ spectrum, we determine the $A_1$ parameters, $m_A=1.24\pm 0.02 GeV$, $Γ_A=0.43\pm 0.02$ GeV; the hard current algebra calculation yields a $3π$ branching ratio of…
The mass eigen states $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ are mixture of the strange members of two axial-vector SU(3) octet, $^3P_1(K_1^A)$ and $^1P_1(K_1^B)$. Taking into account this mixture, the forward-backward asymmetry and branching ratio of $B \rar K_1(1270,1400) \ell^+ \ell^-$ transitions are studied in the framework of different supersymmetric models. It is found that the results have considerable deviation from the standard model predictions. Any measurement of these physical observables and their comparison with the results obtained in this paper can give useful information about the natur…
We show that few-percent Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka-rule violating effects in the quark-flavor basis for the $η$-$η'$ mixing can enhance the chiral scale associated with the $η_q$ meson few times. This enhancement is sufficient for accommodating the dramatically different data of the $B\toη^{\prime} K$ and $B\toηK$ branching ratios. We comment on other proposals for resolving this problem, including flavor-singlet contributions, axial U(1) anomaly, and nonperturbative charming penguins. Discrimination of the above proposals by means of the $B\toη^{(\prime)}\ellν$ and $B_s\toη^{(\prime)}\ell\ell$ data …
We investigate the strong coupling constants of $D D A$, $D^{*}D^{*}A$ and $D^{*} D A$ vertices in the framework of the light-cone QCD sum rules, where $A$ is an axial vector meson such as $a_1, b_1, K_{1A}, K_{1B}, K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$. Using the strong coupling constants of $D_s D K_1$, $D_s^* D K_1$ and $D_s^* D^* K_1$ vertices for $K_1(1270)$ and $K_1(1400)$ mesons, we evaluated the branching ratios of the non-leptonic decays $B^0\to {K}_{1}^{+}(1270,1400) π^-$. Our results for the branching ratios of these decays are a good agreement with the experimental values.
This article presents a proposal for a new search channel for the Higgs boson decaying to two long-lived neutral particles, each of which decays to $b\bar b$ at a displaced vertex. The decay length considered is such that the decay takes place within the LHC beampipe. We present a new data-driven analysis using jet substructure and properties of the tracks from the highly-displaced vertices. We consider a model with a 125 GeV Higgs boson with a significant branching fraction to decay via this mode, with the long-lived neutral particle having a mass in the range of 15--40 GeV and a decay length…
We present a detailed study of charmless two-body B decays into final states involving two vector mesons (VV) or two axial-vector mesons (AA) or one vector and one axial-vector meson (VA), within the framework of QCD factorization, where $A$ is either a $^3P_1$ or $^1P_1$ axial-vector meson. The main results are as follows. (i) In the presence of NLO nonfactorizable corrections, effective Wilson coefficients $a_i^h$ are helicity dependent. For some penguin-dominated modes, the constructive (destructive) interference in the negative-helicity (longitudinal-helicity) amplitude of the $B\to VV$ de…
We obtain the first estimates of branching ratios for the weak decays of $B_c$ meson decaying to two orbitally excited mesons namely, axial-vector meson ($A$) and tensor meson ($T$), in the final state. We calculate $B_c \to T$ transition form factors using the Isgur-Scora-Grinstein-Wise II framework and consequently predict branching ratios of $ B_c \to AT $ decays in Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa favored and suppressed modes.
The high statistics COMPASS results on diffractive dissociation $πN \rightarrow πππN$ suggest that the isospin $I=1$ spin-parity $J^{PC}= 1^{++}$ $a_1(1260)$ resonance could be split into two states: $a_1(1260)$ decaying into an S-wave $ρπ$ system, and $a_1^\prime(1420)$ decaying into a P-wave $f_0(980)π$ system. We analyse the reaction by incorporating our previous treatment of resonant re-scattering corrections in the Drell-Deck forward production process. Our results show that the COMPASS results are fully consistent with the existence of a single axial-vector $a_1$ resonance. The character…
Applying perturbative QCD methods recently seen to give a good description of the two body hadronic decays of the B meson, we address the question of bound-state effects on the decay B into K* + gamma. Consistent with most analyses, we demonstrate that gluonic penguins, with photonic bremsstrahlung off a quark, change the decay rate by only a few percent. However, explicit off-shell b-quark effects normally discarded are found to be large in amplitude, although in the standard model accidents of phase minimize the effect on the rate. Using an asymptotic distribution amplitude for the K* and ju…
We study the big-bang nucleosynthesis (BBN) scenario with late-decaying exotic particles with lifetime longer than $\sim 1$ sec. With a late-decaying particle in the early universe, predictions of the standard BBN scenario can be significantly altered. Therefore, we derive constraints on its primordial abundance. We pay particular attention to hadronic decay modes of such particles. We see that the non-thermal production process of D, ${\rm ^{3}He}$ and ${\rm ^6Li}$ provides a stringent upper bound on the primordial abundance oflate-decaying particles with hadronic branching ratio.
In this letter, we consider the constraints imposed by the recent measurement of B_s - bar B_s mixing on the new physics contribution to the rare decay B_s --> mu+ mu-. New physics in the form vector and axial-vector couplings is already severely constrained by the data on B --> (K,K*) mu+ mu-. Here, we show that B_s - bar B_s mixing data, together with the data on K0 - bar K0 mixing and K_L --> mu+ mu- decay rate, strongly constrain the scalar-pseudoscalar contribution to B_s --> mu+ mu-. We conclude that new physics can at best lead to a factor of 2 increase in the branching ratio of B_s -->…
We calculate the branching ratios for B_{d}^{0}->(b_{1},h_{1})gamma at next-to-leading order (NLO) of alpha_{s} where b_{1} and h_{1} are the corresponding radially excited axial vector mesons of rho and omega respectively. Using the SU(3)symmetry for the form factor, the branching ratio for B_{d}^{0}->(b_{1},h_{1})gamma is expressed in terms of the branching ratio of the B_{d}^{0}-> K_{1}gamma and it is found to be B(B_{d}^{0}->b_{1}gamma)=0.71* 10^{-6} and B(B_{d}^{0}-> h_{1}gamma) =0.74*10^{-6}. We also calculate direct CP asymmetry for these decays and find, in confirmity with the observat…
We show that there are regions in the parameter space of the Littlest Higgs model with T-parity, allowed by electroweak precision data, where the Higgs boson can decay invisibly into a pair of heavy photons A_H with a substantial branching ratio. For a symmetry breaking scale f in the range 450-600 GeV, the BR(H -> A_H A_H) can be up to 95% for an intermediate mass Higgs, and from 20% down to a few percents for a Higgs boson of mass 200 GeV or above. The total decay width of the Higgs boson can thereby be enhanced by an order of magnitude compared to the Standard Model for Higgs masses around …
We study theoretically the decay $τ^- \to ν_τP^- A$, with $P^-$ a $π^-$ or $K^-$ and $A$ an axial-vector resonance $b_1(1235)$, $h_1(1170)$, $h_1(1380)$, $a_1(1260)$, $f_1(1285)$ or any of the two poles of the $K_1(1270)$. The process proceeds through a triangle mechanism where a vector meson pair is first produced from the weak current and then one of the vectors produces two pseudoscalars, one of which reinteracts with the other vector to produce the axial resonance. For the initial weak hadronic production we use a recent formalism to account for the hadronization after the initial quark-an…
We investigate the resonant contributions in the decays $\bar{B}^0_{(s)} \to D^0 π^{+}π^{-}$, $\bar{B}^0_{(s)} \to D^0 K^{+}K^{-}$, and $\bar{B}^{0} \rightarrow D^{0} π^{0}η$ by considering the final state interactions within the chiral unitary approach. The scalar resonances produced dynamically from the final state interactions of these decays are the ones of $f_{0}(500)$, $f_{0}(980)$, and $a_{0}(980)$. In addition, the vector mesons $ρ$ and $ϕ$ produced in the $p$-wave are also taken into account. From the invariant mass distributions of $B^{0}$ decays, one can see that the contributions o…
Various theories beyond the Standard Model predict the existence of heavy resonances decaying to Higgs (H) boson pairs. In order to maximize the sensitivity of searches for such resonances, it is important that experimental analyses cover a variety of decay modes. The decay of H boson pairs to four $τ$ leptons (HH$ \to ττττ$) has not been discussed in the literature so far. This decay mode provides a small branching fraction, but also comparatively low backgrounds. We present an algorithm for the reconstruction of the mass of the H boson pair in events in which the H boson pair decays via HH$ …
We introduce the differential and the total decay widths of a resonant (Gamow) state decaying into a continuum of stable states. When the resonance has several decay modes, we introduce the corresponding partial decay widths and branching fractions. In the approximation that the resonance is sharp, the expressions for the differential, partial and total decay widths of a resonant state bear a close resemblance with the Golden Rule. In such approximation, the branching fractions of a resonant state are the same as the standard branching fractions obtained by way of the Golden Rule. We also intr…
The recent discovery, by the LHCb collaboration, of the $Ξ_{cc}^{++}$ doubly charmed baryon, has renewed interest in the spectroscopy of doubly heavy hadrons. Experimentally, however, searches for such states appear highly challenging. The reconstructed final states tend to involve multiple heavy flavoured (beauty or charm) hadrons, so the yield for any exclusive decay mode will be suppressed to unobservably low levels by the product of several branching fractions, each of which is typically $10^{-3}$--$10^{-2}$. Noting that decays of double beauty hadrons are the only possible source of $B_c^…
We calculate the branching ratios of $B\to K_1γ$ at next-to-leading order (NLO) of $α_s$ where $K_1$ is the orbitally excited axial vector meson. The NLO decay amplitude is divided into the vertex correction and the hard spectator interaction part. The one is proportional to the weak form factor of $B\to K_1$ transition while the other is a convolution between light-cone distribution amplitudes and hard scattering kernel. Using the light-cone sum rule results for the form factor, we have $\calB(B^0\to K_1^0(1270)γ)=(0.828\pm0.335)\times 10^{-5}$ and $\calB(B^0\to K_1^0(1400)γ)=(0.393\pm0.151)\…
We present the calculation of next-to-next-to-leading order (NNLO) corrections in perturbative QCD for the production of a Higgs boson decaying into a pair of bottom quarks in association with a leptonically decaying weak vector boson: $\mathrm{pp} \to V \mathrm{H} + X \to \ell\bar{\ell}\;\mathrm{b\bar{b}} + X$. We consider the corrections to both the production and decay sub-processes, retaining a fully differential description of the final state including off-shell propagators of the Higgs and vector boson. The calculation is carried out using the antenna subtraction formalism and is impleme…
Based on the predictions of the relevant form factors from the covariant light-front quark model, we show the branching fractions for the $D (D_s) \to (P,\,S,\,V,\,A)\,\ellν_\ell$ ($\ell=e$ or $μ$) decays, where $P$ denotes the pseudoscalar meson, $S$ the scalar meson with a mass above 1 GeV, $V$ the vector meson and $A$ the axial-vector one. Comparison with the available experimental results are made, and we find an excellent agreement. The predictions for other decay modes can be tested in a charm factory, e.g., the BESIII detector. The future measurements will definitely further enrich our …
We present an analysis of two-body B decays with a pseudoscalar (P) and an axial-vector meson (A) in the final state using naive factorization. We employ as inputs a limited number of experimental data, i.e. results for the B -> K1 gamma and B -> K* gamma radiative decays and the branching ratios for B -> pion+rho, pion+K*, K+rho, K+pion non leptonic decays. In this way we are able to make predictions on several B -> P A decays that might be used as a guide for experimental researches of these decays and as tests of factorization.
We present a search for a new heavy vector boson $Z'$ that decays to gluons. Decays to on-shell gluons are suppressed, leading to a dominant decay mode of $Z' \rightarrow g^*g$. We study the case where the off-shell gluon $g^*$ converts to a pair of top quarks, leading to a final state of $t\bar{t}g$. In a sample of events with exactly one charged lepton, large missing transverse momentum and at least five jets, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 8.7 fb$^{-1}$ collected by the CDF II detector, we find the data to be consistent with the standard model. We set upper limits on the produ…
We consider a new scenario for supersymmetric decaying dark matter without R-parity violation in theories with goldstini, which arise if supersymmetry is broken independently by multiple sequestered sectors. The uneaten goldstino naturally has a long lifetime and decays into three-body final states including the gravitino, which escapes detection, and two visible particles. The goldstini low-energy effective interactions are derived, which can be non-universal and allow the dark matter to be leptophilic, in contrast to the case of a single sector supersymmetry breaking. In addition, the three-…
