Structure of associative subalgebras of Jordan operator algebras

We show that any order isomorphism between ordered structures of associative unital JB-subalgebras of JBW algebras is implemented naturally by a Jordan isomorphism. Consequently, JBW algebras are determined by the structure of their associative unital JB subalgebras. Further we show that in a similar way it is possible to reconstruct Jordan structure from the order structure of associative subalgebras endowed with an orthogonality relation. In case of abelian subalgebras of von Neuman algebra it is we shown that order isomorphisms of the structure of abelian C*-subalgebras that are well behaved with respect to the structure of two by two matrices over original algebra are implemented by *-isomorphisms.

Two-Local derivations on associative and Jordan matrix rings over commutative rings

In the present paper we prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the matrix ring over a commutative ring is an inner derivation and every derivation on an associative ring has an extension to a derivation on the matrix ring over this associative ring. We also develop a Jordan analog of the above method and prove that every 2-local inner derivation on the Jordan matrix ring over a commutative ring is a derivation.

Abelian subalgebras and the Jordan structure of a von Neumann algebra

For von Neumann algebras M, N not isomorphic to C^2 and without type I_2 summands, we show that for an order-isomorphism f:AbSub(M)->AbSub(N) between the posets of abelian von Neumann subalgebras of M and N, there is a unique Jordan *-isomorphism g:M->N with the image g[S] equal to f(S) for each abelian von Neumann subalgebra S of M. The converse also holds. *-Doubles and embedding of associative algebras in B(H)

We study the *-double functor between the categories of associative and involutive algebras. It is proved that an associative algebra is isomorphic to a subalgebra of a $C\sp*$-algebra if and only if its *-double is *-isomorphic to a *-subalgebra of a $C\sp*$-algebra. Jordan operator algebras are norm-closed spaces of operators on a Hilbert space with a^2 in A for all a in A. In two recent papers by the authors and Neal, a theory for these spaces was developed. Characterizations of Jordan derivations on algebras of locally measurable operators

We prove that if $\mathcal M$ is a properly infinite von Neumann algebra and $LS(\mathcal M)$ is the local measurable operator algebra affiliated with $\mathcal M$, then every Jordan derivation from $LS(\mathcal M)$ into itself is continuous with respect to the local measure topology $t(\mathcal M)$. Jordan operator algebras: Basic theory

Jordan operator algebras are norm-closed spaces of operators on a Hilbert space which are closed under the Jordan product. The discovery of the present paper is that there exists a huge and tractable theory of possibly nonselfadjoint Jordan operator algebras; they are far more similar to associative operator algebras than was suspected.
