In this thesis the generally covariant locality principle for bosonic free fields has been thoroughly analyzed devoting particular attention to the case of spin 1 fields on curved spacetimes (Proca and Maxwell fields). This has been obtained in two steps: In the first place the preliminary study of the corresponding field equations led to the construction of a symplectic space of solutions describing the classical theories of the considered fields. Secondly the locally covariant quantum theory of the field under consideration has been obtained through the assignment of the Weyl algebra associated to the symplectic space describing the classical theory. The last part of the thesis has been devoted to the proof of the relative Cauchy evolution for both the Proca field and the Maxwell field.
This paper develops a concept of relative Cauchy evolution for the class of homotopy algebraic quantum field theories (AQFTs) that are obtained by canonical commutation relation quantization of Poisson chain complexes. The key element of the construction is a rectification theorem proving that the homotopy time-slice axiom, which is a higher categorical relaxation of the time-slice axiom of AQFT, can be strictified for theories in this class. The general concept is illustrated through a detailed study of the relative Cauchy evolution for the homotopy AQFT associated with linear Yang-Mills theo…
We present a general method of solving the Cauchy problem for a linear parabolic partial differential equation of evolution type with variable coefficients and demonstrate it on the equation with derivatives of orders two, one and zero. The method is based on the Chernoff approximation procedure applied to a specially constructed shift operator. It is proven that approximations converge uniformly to the exact solution.
The paper is devoted to the problem of existence of propagators for an abstract linear non-autonomous evolution Cauchy problem of hyperbolic type in separable Banach spaces. The problem is solved using the so-called evolution semigroup approach which reduces the existence problem for propagators to a perturbation problem of semigroup generators. The results are specified to abstract linear non-autonomous evolution equations in Hilbert spaces where the assumption is made that the domains of the quadratic forms associated with the generators are independent of time. Finally, these results are ap…
We study non-linear evolution equations with periodic initial conditions. In particular, we use the graph method introduced by Galavotti to prove the existence of global solution of Hamiltonian perturbation of KdV without any restriction on the size of the initial condition, in contrast with previous results on this subject.
With this paper we provide a mathematical review on the initial-value problem of the one-particle Dirac equation on space-like Cauchy hypersurfaces for compactly supported external potentials. We, first, discuss the physically relevant spaces of solutions and initial values in position and mass shell representation; second, review the action of the Poincaré group as well as gauge transformations on those spaces; third, introduce generalized Fourier transforms between those spaces and prove convenient Paley-Wiener- and Sobolev-type estimates. These generalized Fourier transforms immediately all…
We propose a geometric approach to construct the Cauchy evolution operator for the Lorentzian Dirac operator on Cauchy-compact globally hyperbolic 4-manifolds. We realise the Cauchy evolution operator as the sum of two invariantly defined oscillatory integrals -- the positive and negative Dirac propagators -- global in space and in time, with distinguished complex-valued geometric phase functions. As applications, we relate the Cauchy evolution operators with the Feynman propagator and construct Cauchy surfaces covariances of quasifree Hadamard states.
The Shale-Stinespring Theorem (1965) together with Ruijsenaar's criterion (1977) provide a necessary and sufficient condition for the implementability of the evolution of external field quantum electrodynamics between constant-time hyperplanes on standard Fock space. The assertion states that an implementation is possible if and only if the spacial components of the external electromagnetic four-vector potential $A_μ$ are zero. We generalize this result to smooth, space-like Cauchy surfaces and, for general $A_μ$, show how the second-quantized Dirac evolution can always be implemented as a map…
A non-local abstract Cauchy problem with a singular integral is studied, which is a closed system of two evolution equations for a real-valued function and a function-valued function. By proposing an appropriate Banach space, the well-posedness of the evolution system is proved under some boundedness and smoothness conditions on the coefficient functions. Furthermore, an isomorphism is established to extend the result to a partial integro-differential equation with singular convolution kernel, which is a generalized form of the stationary Wigner equation. Our investigation considerably improve…
In this paper, we consider the initial value problem for the Einstein-Vlasov-Scalar field equations in temporal gauge, where the initial data are prescribed on two characteristic smooth intersecting hypersurfaces. From a suitable choice of some free data, the initial data constraints's problem is solved globally, then the evolution problem relative to the deduced initial data is solved locally in time.
We consider an evolution equation with the regularized fractional derivative of an order $α\in (0,1)$ with respect to the time variable, and a uniformly elliptic operator with variable coefficients acting in the spatial variables. Such equations describe diffusion on inhomogeneous fractals. A fundamental solution of the Cauchy problem is constructed and investigated.
We consider an evolution equation with the Caputo-Dzhrbashyan fractional derivative of order $α\in (1,2)$ with respect to the time variable, and the second order uniformly elliptic operator with variable coefficients acting in spatial variables. This equation describes the propagation of stress pulses in a viscoelastic medium. Its properties are intermediate between those of parabolic and hyperbolic equations. In this paper, we construct and investigate a fundamental solution of the Cauchy problem, prove existence and uniqueness theorems for such equations.
We consider the problem of evolving a quantum field between any two (in general, curved) Cauchy surfaces. Classically, this dynamical evolution is represented by a canonical transformation on the phase space for the field theory. We show that this canonical transformation cannot, in general, be unitarily implemented on the Fock space for free quantum fields on flat spacetimes of dimension greater than 2. We do this by considering time evolution of a free Klein-Gordon field on a flat spacetime (with toroidal Cauchy surfaces) starting from a flat initial surface and ending on a generic final sur…
An upper bound of the relative entanglement entropy of thermal states at an inverse temperature $β$ of linear, massive Klein-Gordon and Dirac quantum field theories across two regions, separated by a nonzero distance $d$ in a Cauchy hypersurface of an ultrastatic (spin-)spacetime has been computed. This entanglement measure is bounded by a negative constant times $\ln | \tanh (πd/ 2 β) |$ which signifies power law decay for asymptotic $d$ where the exponent depends on $β< \infty$.
The relative power of actions in a Cauchy body suffering mutations due to defect evolution is introduced. It is shown that its invariance under the action of the Euclidean group over the ambient space and the material space allows one to obtain (i) the balance of standard and configurational actions and (ii) the identification of configurational ingredients from a unique source.
We study the Cauchy problem for $p$-adic nonlinear evolutionary pseudo-differential equations for complex-valued functions of a real positive time variable and p-adic spatial variables. Among the equations under consideration there is the p-adic analog of the porous medium equation (or more generally, the nonlinear filtration equation) which arise in numerous application in mathematical physics and mathematical biology. Our approach is based on the construction of a linear Markov semigroup on a p-adic ball and the proof of m-accretivity of the appropriate nonlinear operator. The latter result …
We show that a smooth, small enough Cauchy datum launches a unique classical solution of the relativistic Vlasov-Darwin (RVD) system globally in time. A similar result is claimed in Comm. Math. Sci. 6, 749-764 (2008) following the work in Int. Mat. Res. Not. 57191, 1-31 (2006). Our proof does not require estimates derived from the conservation of the total energy, nor those previously given on the transverse component of the electric field. These estimates are crucial in the references cited above. Instead, we exploit the formulation of the RVD system in terms of the generalized space and mome…
The Cauchy problem for the von Neumann hierarchy of nonlinear equations is investigated. One describes the evolution of all possible states of quantum many-particle systems by the correlation operators. A solution of such nonlinear equations is constructed in the form of an expansion over particle clusters whose evolution is described by the corresponding order cumulant (semi-invariant) of evolution operators for the von Neumann equations. For the initial data from the space of sequences of trace class operators the existence of a strong and a weak solution of the Cauchy problem is proved. We …
