The latest results on the direct experimental search for a Standard Model Higgs boson decaying to a pair of Z bosons are presented. Three distinct final states are considered: $H\rightarrow ZZ^{(*)}\rightarrow \ell\ell\ell\ell$, $H\rightarrow ZZ\rightarrow \ell\ellνν$, and $H\rightarrow ZZ\rightarrow \ell\ell qq$, where $\ell = e, μ$. A dataset of more than 1fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 7$ TeV collected by the ATLAS detector at the CERN LHC during the on-going 2011 run is used. In this model and for these final states, Higgs boson masses in the ranges 192 GeV $< m_H < $ 196 GeV, 214 $ < m_H < $ 222 GeV, and 340 $< m_H < $ 460 GeV have been excluded at the 95% confidence level.
The properties of the Higgs boson measured in bosonic decay channels ($H \rightarrow γγ$, $H \rightarrow ZZ^* \rightarrow 4\ell$, $H \rightarrow WW^{*} \rightarrow \ellν\ellν$, $H \rightarrow Zγ$) with 25 fb$^{-1}$ of pp collision data from the Large Hadron Collider run-1 collected by the ATLAS experiment are presented. The results include an improved measurement of the mass of the Higgs boson from a combined fit to the invariant mass spectra of the decay channels $H \rightarrow γγ$ and $H \rightarrow ZZ^* \rightarrow 4\ell$, which yields $m_H = 125.36 \pm 0.37$ (stat) $\pm 0.18$ (syst) GeV = …

The measured value in the $H\rightarrow ZZ^* \rightarrow 4\ell$ channel is $m_{H}^{ZZ^{*}} = 124.79 \pm 0.37$ GeV, while the measured value in the $H\rightarrow γγ$ channel is $m_{H}^{γγ} = 124.93 \pm 0.40$ GeV. Combining these results with the ATLAS measurement based on 7 TeV and 8 TeV proton-proton …

The ATLAS experiment has a broad program of direct searches for Leptoquarks, coupling to the first-, second- or third-generation particles. The most recent 13 TeV results on the searches for Leptoquarks and contact interactions with the ATLAS detector are reviewed, covering flavour-diagonal and cross-generational final states.

This paper describes the concept, technical realisation and validation of a largely data-driven method to model events with $Z\rightarrowττ$ decays. In $Z\rightarrowμμ$ events selected from proton--proton collision data recorded at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV with the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2012, the $Z$ decay muons are replaced by $τ$ leptons from simulated $Z\rightarrowττ$ decays at the level of reconstructed tracks and calorimeter cells. The $τ$ lepton kinematics are derived from the kinematics of the original muons. Thus, only the well-understood decays of the $Z$ boson and $τ$ leptons as wel…

This document presents a search for a $W'$ boson, decaying to a top quark and a $b$ quark in an effective coupling approach, using a multivariate method based on boosted decision trees. It reports exclusion limits on the $W'\rightarrow tb$ cross-section times branching ratio and effective couplings as a function of the $W'$-boson mass. The search covers $W'$-boson masses between 0.5 and 3.0 TeV, for right-handed or left-handed $W'$-boson, with 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data produced by the LHC in 2012, at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV and collected by the ATLAS detector.
A search for new heavy quarks focusing on recent vector-like quark searches with the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider is presented. Two recent searches targeting the pair production of type vector-like quarks are described. The first search is sensitive to vector-like up-type quark ($T$) decays to a $t$ quark and either a Standard Model Higgs boson or a $Z$ boson. The second search is primarily sensitive to $T$ decays to $W$ boson and a $b$ quark. Additionally, the results can be interpreted for alternative VLQ decays.
An observation of the $Λ_b^0 \rightarrow ψ(2S) Λ^0$ decay and a comparison of its branching fraction with that of the $Λ_b^0 \rightarrow J/ψΛ^0$ decay has been made with the ATLAS detector in proton--proton collisions at $\sqrt{s}=8\,$TeV at the LHC using an integrated luminosity of $20.6\,$fb$^{-1}$. The $J/ψ$ and $ψ(2S)$ mesons are reconstructed in their decays to a muon pair, while the $Λ^0\rightarrow pπ^-$ decay is exploited for the $Λ^0$ baryon reconstruction. The $Λ_b^0$ baryons are reconstructed with transverse momentum $p_{\rm T}>10\,$GeV and pseudorapidity $|η|<2.1$. The measured bran…

The search for Higgs boson pair ($HH$) production is at the core of the ATLAS experimental program, as it probes the Brout-Englert-Higgs mechanism, as well as new physics beyond the Standard Model. Based on the proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at CERN's Large Hadron Collider in 2015 and 2016, three public results on the search for $HH \to bbbb$, $HH \to bbγγ$ and $HH \to WWγγ$ were recently released and are summarised in these proceedings.
Searches for signatures of new physics in top anti-top events at the LHC require efficient reconstruction of top quarks with a broad range of transverse momenta. Three new reconstruction schemes are developed to deal with the large variety of top decay topologies. Their performance on the lepton + jets final state is evaluated using a detailed simulation of signal and background processes. Compared to previous ATLAS studies, a much improved reconstruction efficiency is found over a large top anti-top invariant mass range. As a consequence, even in the earliest phase of the experiment, ATLAS is…

The data correspond to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb$ ^{-1}$ recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV. The products of the $H \rightarrow WW^{\ast}$ b…
Many models beyond the standard model predict the existence of vector-like quarks or other types of heavy resonances. Using proton-proton collision data at center-of-mass energies of 8 and 13 TeV, the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations have performed a multitude of searches for pair and singly produced vector-like quarks decaying to W, Z, or Higgs bosons. Heavy gauge and (pseudo)scalar resonances decaying to top quarks have been searched for as well. No evidence for any of these hypothetical particles has been found yet, and stringent exclusion limits are derived on their masses, cross sections and …
The CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is scheduled to commence operation in 2008 and inclusive searches for supersymmetry (SUSY) will be one of our primary tasks in the first days of LHC operation. It is certain that the final state of multijets + missing transverse energy will provide a superior performance in SUSY searches. Strategies to understand the instrumental background and to understand the Standard Model (SM) background are still under development and are urgent issues for the coming data. We describe the strategy for early SUSY searches at the ATLAS experiment using the fist data cor…
The searches for supersymmetric and beyond Standard Model Higgs boson with the ATLAS detector are presented. The results are based on integrated luminosity of 35 pb$^{-1}$ to 1.6 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data recorded at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV at LHC. No signal is observed in any of the investigated channel and exclusion limits on production cross-sections are given as function of Higgs boson mass and of minimal supersymmetric model parameters.
The ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider is used to search for the lepton flavor violating process $Z \rightarrow e μ$ in pp collisions using 20.3 $fb^{-1}$ of data collected at $\sqrt{s}$ = 8 TeV. An enhancement in the $e μ$ invariant mass spectrum is searched for at the Z boson mass. The number of Z bosons produced in the data sample is estimated using events of similar topology, $Z \rightarrow ee$ and $μμ$, significantly reducing the systematic uncertainty in the measurement. There is no evidence of an enhancement at the Z boson mass, resulting in an upper limit on the branching frac…
The energy response of the ATLAS calorimeter is measured for single charged pions with transverse momentum in the range $10<p_\textrm{T}<300$ GeV. The measurement is performed using 139 $\textrm{fb}^{-1}$ of LHC proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV taken in Run 2 by the ATLAS detector. Charged pions originating from $τ$-lepton decays are used to provide a sample of high-$p_\textrm{T}$ isolated particles, where the composition is known, to test an energy regime that has not previously been probed by in situ single-particle measurements. The calorimeter response to single-pions is o…
Precision determinations of the flavour sector allow the search for indirect new physics signatures. At the forefront of these studies are the determinations of interference of new physics with known $\upDelta F=1$ and $\upDelta F=2$ processes. The ATLAS collaboration explores this area with competitive results measuring the CP violating phase $ϕ_s$ from $B^0_s\to J/ψϕ$ decays and investigating rare $B$ decays with dileptons in the final state with data collected at the Large Hadron Collider. In this paper, the latest ATLAS results relevant for new physics searches in the heavy flavour sector …
The sensitivity of the ATLAS experiment to the top-quark rare decay via flavor-changing neutral currents $t \rightarrow Zq$ ($q$ represents $c$ and $u$ quarks) has been studied at $\sqrt{s}$=14 TeV in two decay modes: 1.The pure leptonic decay of gauge bosons: $t\bar{t} \rightarrow ZqWb \rightarrow l^{+} l^{-} j l^{\pm} νb$ , (l=e, $μ$). 2.The leptonic decay of Z bosons and hadronic decay of W bosons: $t\bar{t} \rightarrow ZqWb \rightarrow l^{+} l^{-} jjjb$ , (l=e, $μ$). The dominant backgrounds $Z+jets$, $WZ$ and $t\bar{t}$ have been analysed. The signal and backgrounds were generated via PYT…
These conference proceedings for PLHC 2011 in Perugia, Italy summarize the results from two searches for long-lived charged particles using 34-37 pb-1. The searches are based on direct detection and exploits ionization energy loss and time-of-flight measurements to separate slow-moving signal particles from the Standard Model backgrounds. The observations are in all cases consistent with the background-only hypotheses and limits are presented for long-lived squarks, gluinos and sleptons.
Supersymmetry (SUSY) is one of the most relevant scenarios of new physics searched by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. In this writeup the principal search strategies employed by ATLAS are outlined and the most recent results for analyses targeting SUSY discovery are discussed. A wide range of signatures is covered motivated by various theoretical scenarios and topologies: strong production, third-generation fermions, long-lived particles and R-parity violation, among others. The results are based on up to ~5 fb-1 of data recorded during 2010-2011 at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV cent…
We present the status of interpretations of Supersymmetry (SUSY) searches in ATLAS at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) using simplified models. Such models allow a systematic scan through the phase space in the sparticle mass plane, and in the corresponding final state kinematics. Models at various levels of simplification have been studied in ATLAS. The results can be extrapolated to more general new physics models which lead to the same event topology with similar mass hierarchies. Searches in the no-lepton channel with 1.04 fb^-1 of data from 2011 and the same-sign dilepton channel with 35 p…
The ATLAS detector has been used to search for high mass ee or mumu resonances, such as new heavy neutral gauge bosons. Over 1 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collisions at s = 7 TeV recorded by the ATLAS experiment are used to search for a high mass state decaying to dilepton pairs. No excess over Standard Model expectations is observed, and limits are placed on benchmark models predicting spin-1 and spin-2 resonances.
A selection of searches by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC for the electroweak production of SUSY particles are used to study their impact on the constraints on dark matter candidates. The searches use $20\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ of proton-proton collision data at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV. A likelihood-driven scan of a five-dimensional effective model focusing on the gaugino--higgsino and Higgs sector of the phenomenological minimal supersymmetric Standard Model is performed. This scan uses data from direct dark matter detection experiments, the relic dark matter density and precision flavour physics results.…
The investigation of the electroweak symmetry breaking is one of the primary tasks of the experiments at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The potential of the ATLAS experiment for the discovery of the Higgs boson(s) in Standard Model and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is presented, with emphasis on studies which have been completed recently.
Charged Higgs bosons heavier than the top quark and decaying via $H^{\pm} \rightarrow tb$ are searched for in proton--proton collisions measured with the ATLAS experiment at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb$^{-1}$. The production of a charged Higgs boson in association with a top quark, $gb \rightarrow tH^{\pm}$, is explored in the mass range 200 to 600 GeV using multi-jet final states with one electron or muon. In order to separate the signal from the Standard Model background, analysis techniques combining several kinematic variables are employed. An exce…
Searches for physics beyond the standard model are considered one of the corner stones of the physics program at the two multipurpose experiments, ATLAS and CMS, at the LHC. The datasets discussed in these proceedings consist of 36 fb$^{-1}$ of proton-proton collisions collected during the 2016 run of the LHC. No signs of new physics are found, however, limits on different supersymmetric scenarios are placed and extend previous …

The search of the "hidden sector" via new neutral light bosons Z-dark ($Z_{d}$) could be revealed by the study of the decay of the discovered Higgs-like boson or any other undiscovered Higgs boson. After the LHC concluded a successful first period of running, the ATLAS Collaboration published its latest results on the $H\rightarrow Z_{d}Z_{d}\rightarrow 4l$ analysis using up to 20 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity at $\sqrt{s}=8$ TeV. In this proceeding I present a summary of the recent results on the search of the $Z_{d}$ in the signature $H\rightarrow Z_{d}Z_{d}\rightarrow 4l$ with the ATLA…
The ATLAS detector has begun the search for new physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM) with \int L dt = ~45 pb^-1 of data collected in 2010. After no significant evidence of new physics was found in the data, limits on possible signatures have been set, many of which have already placed more stringent limits than previous measurements. These proceedings review recent limits obtained on various BSM models, including excited quarks, axigluons, contact interactions, quantum black holes, heavy gauge bosons (W', Z'), gravitons, fourth-generation quarks and leptoquarks.
Using ATLAS data corresponding to 70 +- 8 nb^-1 of integrated luminosity from the 7 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC, distributions of relevant supersymmetry-sensitive variables are shown for the final state containing jets, missing transverse momentum and one isolated electron or muon. With increased integrated luminosities, selections based on these distributions will be used in the search for supersymmetric particles: it is thus important to show that the Standard Model backgrounds to these searches are under good control.
