We analyse the recently available experimental data on direct photon productions from Au+Au collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=200 GeV RHIC and from Pb+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}$=2.76 TeV LHC energies. The expected connections between signatures in the soft and hard sectors of small collision systems, and the status of experimental attempts to identify them, are discussed. These proceedings summarize the talk as given at the International Symposium on Multi-Particle Dynamics in September 2019 in Santa Fe, NM (ISMD19). The current experimental and theoretical status of hadron and jet production at large transverse momentum in high-energy nucleus-nucleus collisions is summarised. The most important RHIC results are compared to theoretical parton energy loss predictions providing direct information on the (thermo)dynamical properties of hot and dense QCD matter. Prospects for the LHC are also outlined.
We report results on event-by-event hard probe of soft matter geometry and fluctuations in heavy ion collisions. Geometric data ($v_2$ of high $p_t$ hadrons) from RHIC plus LHC clearly favors jet "monography" model with strong near-Tc enhancement of jet-medium interaction strength which also implies a less opaque medium at LHC. We also quantify the jet responses to all harmonic anisotropy $v_n$($n=1,2,3,4,5,6$) and their manifestation in hard-soft azimuthal correlations.
Monte-Carlo implementations of kT -factorization formula with both KLN and running-coupling BK unintegrated gluon distributions for nucleus-nucleus collisions are used to analyze recent experimental data on the particle multiplicities from RHIC(Au+Au@200GeV) and LHC(Pb+Pb@2.76TeV). In this letter we update our predictions for the photoproduction of vector mesons in coherent $pp$ and $AA$ collisions at RHIC and LHC energies using the color dipole approach and the Color Glass Condensate (CGC) formalism. In particular, we present our predictions for the first run of the LHC at half energy and for the rapidity dependence of the ratio between the $J/Ψ$ and $ρ$ cross sections at RHIC energies.
The current status of the application of hydrodynamics to ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions is reviewed. We elaborate on the arguments for strong transverse flow and rapid thermalization and discuss future applications and trends in hydrodynamics.

We describe RHIC pion data in central A+A collisions and make predictions for LHC based on hydro-kinetic model, describing continuous 4D particle emission, and initial conditions taken from Color Glass Condensate (CGC) model.
Firstly, we give a short review about the hydrodynamic model and its application to the elliptic flow phenomena in relativistic heavy ion collisions. Secondly, we show the first approach to construct a unified model for the description of the dynamics in relativistic heavy ion collisions.
Fluid dynamical description of elementary particle collisions has a long history dating back to the works of Landau and Fermi. Nevertheless, it is during the last 10-15 years when fluid dynamics has become the standard tool to describe the evolution of matter created in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. In this review I briefly describe the hydrodynamical models, what we have learned when analyzing the RHIC and LHC data using these models, and what the latest developments and challenges are.
We study the emission characteristics of thermal photons at RHIC and LHC as affected by both the space-time evolution of the bulk medium and the thermal emission rates. For the former we compare the results of two evolution models (expanding fireball and hydrodynamics). For the latter, we detail the influence of hadronic emission components and study a speculative scenario by upscaling the default QGP and hadronic rates around the pseudo-critical region.
The generic features of parton energy loss effects on the quenching of single hadron spectra in heavy-ion collisions are discussed, paying attention to the expected differences from RHIC to LHC. The need for precise baseline measurements in p-Pb collisions at the LHC is also emphasized. STAR collaboration at RHIC has recently measured the polarization of $Λ$ hyperons in non-central heavy ion collisions in the RHIC Beam Energy Scan (BES) program. In this brief note, we determine the fluctuations of the initial eccentricity in heavy-ion collisions caused by fluctuations of the nucleon configurations. This is done via a Monte-Carlo implementation of a Color Glass Condensate $k_t$-factorization approach. The eccentricity fluctuations are found to nearly saturate elliptic flow fluctuations measured recently at RHIC. Extrapolations to LHC energies are shown.
A hydrodynamic model coupled to the statistical hadronization code Therminator is used to study a set of observables in the soft sector at RHIC. A satisfactory description of the pT-spectra and elliptic flow is obtained, similarly to other hydrodynamic models. With the Gaussian initial conditions the transverse femtoscopic radii are also reproduced, providing a possible solution of the RHIC HBT puzzle.
We present a summary of the physics of gluon saturation and non-linear QCD evolution at small values of parton momentum fraction $x$ in the proton and nucleus in the context of recent experimental results at HERA and RHIC. We perform a joint jet tomographic analysis of the data on the nuclear modification factor $R_{AA}$ from PHENIX at RHIC and ALICE at LHC. The computations are performed accounting for radiative and collisional parton energy loss with running coupling constant. Our results show that the observed slow variation of $R_{AA}$ from RHIC to LHC indicates that the QCD coupling constant is suppressed in the quark-gluon plasma produced at LHC.

We present a fully three-dimensional initial state model for relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC Beam Energy Scan (BES) collision energies. The initial energy and net baryon density profiles are produced based on a classical string deceleration model. The baryon stopping and fluctuations during this early stage of the collision are investigated by studying the net baryon rapidity distribution and longitudinal decorrelation of the transverse geometry.
We review the apparently hydrodynamic behaviour of low transverse momentum particles (p_T < 1.5 GeV/c) produced in central and semicentral (b < 7 fm) heavy ion collisions at RHIC. We investigate the impact parameter dependence of various observables, elaborating on radial and elliptic flow and particle multiplicities. We also discuss possible ambiguities in the initialization of the hydrodynamic system and present observables that should allow for their resolution.

We have studied the probability of two succinct particle production mechanisms, likely to occur in the transition from the deconfined medium produced in RHIC and LHC heavy ion collisions back to the hadron gas, which is abundant at lower temperatures. In an earlier work (arXiv:0808.0953) we established that causal Israel-Stewart viscous hydrodynamics is only accurate in RHIC applications at very low shear viscosities 4 pi eta_s / s < ~ 1.5-2. We show here that the region of applicability is significantly reduced if bulk viscosity plays a role in the dynamics.
The approach to problem of nuclear shadowing based on Gribov Reggeon calculus is presented. Here the total cross section of $h A$ interaction is found in a parameter-free description, employing the new data on the gluon density of the Pomeron, measured with high precision at HERA, as input. The model is then applied for calculation of $J/ψ$ production in $d Au$ collisions at top RHIC energy. It is shown that the theoretical estimates are in a very good agreement with the PHENIX data, and further predictions for the $J/ψ$ suppression in $p Pb$ collisions at coming soon LHC are made.
We present here an extraction of the jet transport coefficient, $\hat{q}$, using RHIC and LHC single-inclusive high-$p_T$ data for different centralities. We fit a $K$-factor that determines the deviation of this coefficient from an ideal estimate, $K \equiv \hat{q}/(2ε^{3/4})$, where $ε$ is given by hydrodynamic simulations. We study the radiative correction to $p_\perp$-broadening of a fast quark in a quark-gluon plasma beyond the soft gluon approximation. We find that the radiative contribution to quark $\langle p_\perp^2\rangle$ for RHIC and LHC conditions is negative.

We study the production of charmonia and charmed hadrons in nucleus-nucleus collisions at SPS, RHIC, and LHC energies within the framework of the statistical hadronization model. Results from this model are compared to the measured yields and centrality dependence of J/psi production at SPS and RHIC energies. We explore and contrast the centrality dependence of the production of mesons with open and hidden charm at SPS, RHIC, and LHC. The sensitivity of the results to various input parameters is analyzed in detail for RHIC energy.
The motion of charmonium in heavy ion collisions is described by a three dimensional transport equation with initial production and continuous regeneration in hot medium. The observation of apparently stronger $J/ψ$ suppression at forward rapidity compared to that at midrapidity, so called $J/ψ$ puzzle at RHIC, can well be explained by the competition between the two production mechanisms. At LHC, however, the rapidity dependence of the $J/ψ$ production is dominated by the regeneration process.

We consider the longitudinal hydrodynamic evolution of the fireball created in a relativistic heavy-ion collision. Nonzero shear viscosity reduces the colling rate of the system and hinders the acceleration of the longitudinal flow. As a consequence, the initial energy density needed to reproduce the experimental data at RHIC energies is significantly reduced. At LHC energies, we expect that shear viscosity helps to conserve a Bjorken plateau in the rapidity distributions during the expansion.
I discuss Upsilon production in pp collisions at RHIC, Tevatron and LHC energies, in particular the behaviour of the differential cross section in rapidity and the impact of QCD corrections on the P_T differential cross section. We briefly review the existing psi(2S) data taken at RHIC, the Tevatron and the LHC. We systematically compare them with colour-singlet-model predictions as a function of the center-of-mass energy, of the quarkonium rapidity and of the quarkonium transverse momentum. The overall agreement is good except for large transverse momenta. This points at the existence of large NNLO corrections or points at colour-octet dominance.
It is argued that the use of the initial Gaussian energy density profile for hydrodynamics leads to much better uniform description of the RHIC heavy-ion data than the use of the standard initial condition obtained from the Glauber model. With the modified Gaussian initial conditions we successfully reproduce the transverse-momentum spectra, v2, and the pionic HBT radii (including their azimuthal dependence). The emerging consistent picture of hadron production hints that a solution of the long standing RHIC HBT puzzle has been found.
We discuss the present collective flow signals for the phase transition to quark-gluon plasma (QGP) and the collective flow as a barometer for the equation of state (EoS). A study of Mach shocks induced by fast partonic jets propagating through the QGP is given. We predict a significant deformation of Mach shocks in central Au+Au collisions at RHIC and LHC energies as compared to the case of jet propagation in a static medium. Results of a hydrodynamical study of jet energy loss are presented.
Current status of dynamical modeling of relativistic heavy ion collisions and hydrodynamic description of the quark gluon plasma is reported. We find the hadronic rescattering effect plays an important role in interpretation of mass splitting pattern in the differential elliptic flow data observed at RHIC. To demonstrate this, we predict the elliptic flow parameter for phi mesons to directly observe the flow just after hadronisation. We also discuss recent applications of outputs from hydrodynamic calculations to J/psi suppression, thermal photon radiation and heavy quark diffusion.
The problem of early thermalization of matter produced in relativistic heavy-ion collisions at RHIC is discussed in the framework of a hybrid model that consists of the transverse-hydrodynamics stage followed by the standard perfect-fluid hydrodynamics stage and freeze-out. The two hydrodynamic regimes are connected with the help of Landau matching conditions. A satisfactory description of the soft hadronic observables is achieved. This indicates that the early-thermalization problem and also the HBT puzzle may be to large extent circumvented.
A status report on the jet quenching physics in heavy-ion collisions is given as it appears after more than 10 years of collecting and analysing data at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) and ~1.5 years of physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
