We show that the radion in a warped geometry bounded by two branes can have a potential suitable for inflation. Our construction is based upon a solution known in string theory as the linear dilaton, in which the back-reaction from a bulk scalar Φis exactly accounted for. The radion, stabilized by Φ, is much heavier than the TeV scale and its couplings to the standard model are much more suppressed than in the usual Randall-Sundrum solution. We present a new formalism for obtaining approximate time-dependent solutions, based on perturbing the exact solution to the coupled Einstein and scalar field equations in the bulk. It allows the radion potential to be computed directly in terms of the brane potentials for Φ. We show that simple exponential potentials on the branes can lead to a 4D radion potential with a flattened hilltop form, yielding inflation with a spectral index of typically n_s=0.96 and no higher than 0.99. With more complicated brane potentials, the descent from the hilltop can be a linear potential, giving a tensor-to-scalar ratio as large as r=0.07 with n_s=0.974. The couplings of the radion to the standard model particles are dictated by general covariance, so the details of reheating are explicitly calculable, leading to a reheat temperature of at least 10^7 GeV. The quantum corrections to the inflaton potential from its couplings to matter are also calculable and are shown to be small, so that the prediction for the shape of the potential is under theoretical control, even with superPlanckian field excursions.
Warped scenarios offer an appealing solution to the hierarchy problem. We consider a non-trivial deformation of the basic Randall-Sundrum framework that has a KK-parity symmetry. This leads to a stable particle beyond the Standard Model, that is generically expected to be the first KK-parity odd excitation of the radion field. We consider the viability of the KK-radion as a DM candidate in the context of thermal and non-thermal production in the early universe. In the thermal case, the KK-radion can account for the observed DM density when the radion decay constant is in the natural multi-TeV …
In the usual 5-dimensional Randall-Sundrum scenario with warped geometry of the extra compact dimension, the Goldberger-Wise mechanism for stabilisation of the radius of compactification can lead to a scalar field called the radion. The radion can have implications in TeV-scale physics, which can be especially noticeable if its vacuum expectation value (vev) is not far above a TeV. However a large mass of the first graviton excitation, which seems to be suggested by recent search limit, tends to make the radion vev, far too large in the minimal model. We show that this is not the case if a Gau…
We study implications of generalized non-zero Dirichlet boundary condition along with the ordinary Neumann one on a bulk scalar in the Randall-Sundrum warped compactification. First we show profiles of vacuum expectation value of the scalar under the general boundary conditions. We also investigate Goldberger-Wise mechanism in several setups with the general boundary conditions of the bulk scalar field and find that the mechanism can work under non-zero Dirichlet boundary conditions with appropriate vacuum expectation values. Especially, we show that $SU(2)_R$ triplet Higgs in the bulk left-ri…
A model with brane-localized curvature terms in a warped background is proposed. The model is based on the Randall-Sundrum solution for the background metric and possesses some interesting features, in particular, the radion field is absent in it. Although there is no modification of gravity at long distances, the model predicts deviations from Newton's law at short distances. This effect can be observed in the experiments for testing gravity at sub-millimeter scales.
Theories beyond the Standard Model often contain mass scales hierarchically different from the electroweak scale and the Planck scale. It has been shown that such hierarchical mass scales can be realized as typical energy scales of multiple 3-branes in a 5D warped spacetime. We present a mechanism for stabilizing the intervals between the multiple 3-branes in the warped extra dimension, by introducing a single 5D scalar field with brane-localized potentials. We discuss the radion stabilization by solving the Einstein equation and the scalar field equation of motion so that a backreaction effec…
We consider a five dimensional AdS spacetime in presence of higher curvature term like $F(R) = R + αR^2$ in the bulk. In this model, we examine the possibility of modulus stabilization from the scalar degrees of freedom of higher curvature gravity free of ghosts. Our result reveals that the model stabilizes itself and the mechanism of modulus stabilization can be argued from a geometric point of view. We determine the region of the parametric space for which the modulus (or radion) can to be stabilized. We also show how the mass and coupling parameters of radion field are modified due to highe…
We propose an extension to the recently proposed extranatural or gauge inflation scenario in which the radius modulus field around which the Wilson loop is wrapped assists inflation as it shrinks. We discuss how this might lead to more generic initial conditions for inflation.
Radion stabilization is analyzed in 5-dimensional models with branes in the presence of Gauss-Bonnet interactions. The Goldberger-Wise mechanism is considered for static and inflating backgrounds. The necessary and sufficient conditions for stability are given for the static case. The influence of the Gauss-Bonnet term on the radion mass and the inter-brane distance is analyzed and illustrated by numerical examples. The interplay between the radion stabilization and the cosmological constant problem is discussed.
We study a generalization of the Randall-Sundrum mechanism for generating the weak/Planck hierarchy, which uses two rather than one warped extra dimension, and which requires no negative tension branes. A 4-brane with one exponentially large compact dimension plays the role of the Planck brane. We investigate the dynamical stability with respect to graviton, graviphoton and radion modes. The radion is shown to have a tachyonic instability for certain models of the 4-brane stress-energy, while it is stable in others, and massless in a special case. If stable, its mass is in the milli-eV range, …
A warped space model with a constant boundary superpotential has been an efficient model both to break supersymmetry and to stabilize the radius, when hypermultiplet, compensator and radion multiplet are taken into account. In such a model of the radius stabilization, the radion and moduli masses, the gravitino mass and the induced soft masses are studied. We find that a lighter physical mode composed of the radion and the moduli can have mass of the order of a TeV and that the gravitino mass can be of the order of 10$^7$ GeV. It is also shown that soft mass induced by the anomaly mediation ca…
We study a radion model for inflation and density perturbation identifying the scalar field arising from the five-dimensional gravity on $M_4 x S^1$ with the inflaton. The inflaton potential arising from 5D graviton and matter one-loop effects is shown to possess the desirable slow-roll property. This radion model contains only a small number of parameters and there is an ample parameter region which reproduces (without fine-tuning) all precision astrophysical data.
We study whether the inflation is realized based on the radion gauge-Higgs potential obtained from the one-loop calculation in the 5-dimensional gravity coupled to a $U(1)$ gauge theory. We show that the gauge-Higgs can give rise to inflation in accord with the astrophysical data and the radion plays a role in fixing the values of physical parameters. We clarify the reason why the radion dominated inflation and the hybrid inflation cannot occur in our framework.
Supersymmetry breaking and radius stabilization by constant superpotentials localized at boundaries is studied in a supersymmetric warped space model where a hypermultiplet, a compensator and a radion multiplet are taken into account. Soft mass induced by the anomaly mediation can be of the order of 100GeV and can be dominant compared to that mediated by bulk fields. A lighter physical mode composed of the radion and the moduli can have mass of the order of a TeV and the gravitino mass can be of the order of 10^7 GeV. The radius is stabilized by the presence of the constant boundary superpoten…
In the context of higher dimensional braneworld scenario, the stabilisation of extra dimensional modulus is an essential requirement for resolving the gauge hierarchy problem in the context of Standard Model of elementary particle Physics. For Randall-Sundrum (RS) warped extra dimensional model, Goldberger and Wise (GW) proposed a much useful mechanism to achieve this using a scalar field in the bulk spacetime ignoring the effects of backreaction of the scalar field on the background metric. In this article we examine the influence of the backreaction of the stabilising field on the stabilisat…
As a follow-up to our previous paper arxiv: 1309.4244[hep-th], we determine radion induced spherically symmetric solution using the gradient approximation scheme, when two warped $3$-branes are slant with respect to each other such that the radion field in this case is a radial co-ordinate varying function. The slanting between the branes is assumed to be small. In the absence of any on-brane matter except that induced effects of radion field, the resulting black hole is found to be extremal Reissner-Nordstrom whose mass is proportional to the slanting between the $3$-branes. It is however see…
Warped braneworld models has the potential to provide a plausible resolution to the gauge hierarchy problem but at the cost of introduction of an additional field, namely the inter-brane separation or, the radion field. Providing an appropriate stabilization scheme for the radion field has long been sought for. In this work, we discuss dynamical stabilization of the radion field in the context of early universe cosmology. We show that by allowing the branes to be \emph{non-flat} and \emph{dynamical} a radion potential is naturally generated which can trigger the inflationary phase of the early…
We discuss cosmology of models with universal extra dimensions, where the Standard Model degrees of freedom live in a $4+n$ dimensional brane, with $n$ compact and small extra spatial dimensions. In these models, the simplest way to obtain the conventional 4-dimensional Planck scale starting with a low string scale is to have also some larger extra dimensions, where only gravity propagates. In such theories, dimensional reduction generically leads to at least two radion fields, one associated with the total volume of the extra spatial dimensions, and the other with the ratio of the sizes of sm…

We solve the Einstein's equation in five-dimensional spacetime for Randall Sundrum Brane world model with time dependent radion field to study variation of brane scale factor with time. We have shown that as radion field decreases with time compactifying the extra dimension, the scale factor increases exponentially with time leading to inflationary scenario. We have also proposed a time dependent generalization of Goldberger-Wise moduli stabilization mechanism to explain the time evolution of the radion field to reach a stable value after which the scale factor on the brane exits from inflatio…
We consider a five dimensional AdS spacetime with two 3-brane scenario where the hidden brane contains a certain amount of positive constant energy density. In this model, we examine the possibility of modulus stabilization. Our result reveals that the non-zero value of "hidden brane energy density" is sufficient to stabilize the two brane system. Moreover we scan the parametric space for which the modulus (or radion) is going to be stabilized without sacrificing the conditions necessary to solve the gauge hierarchy problem. Finally we obtain the mass and coupling parameters of radion field in…
We investigate coupled gravity and a bulk scalar field on a slice of AdS_5 bulk with special BPS branes at the two ends. With the special scalar potentials on the branes the scalar field does not stabilize the size of the orbifold. With a careful treatment of the general coordinate invariance the complete tensor-scalar spectrum is presented. There are two massless zero modes in the scalar sector, the radion and a dilatonic zero mode. The scalar KK modes acquire masses at the order of the warped mass scale. The four dimensional effective action is of tensor-scalar type.
We propose that the radion chiral supermultiplet of five dimensional compactified supergravity is obtained by reduction of the graviphoton gauge multiplet to N=1 superfields in the off shell 5D superconformal gravity formalism of Fujita, Kugo and Ohashi. We present a superfield Lagrangian of Chern-Simons type (similar to global SUSY), which reproduces all component couplings of gauge fields and the radion. A hypermultiplet superspace action is also proposed which correctly accounts for the coupling of matter multiplets with gauge and radion superfields. 4D supergravity enters by the coupling t…
We present a possible explanation for the smallness of the observed cosmological constant using a variant of the Randall-Sundrum(RS)- Goldberger-Wise paradigm for a warped extra dimension. In contrast to RS, we imagine that we are living on the positive tension Planck brane, or on a zero-tension TeV brane. In our model there are two solutions for the scalar field in the bulk and the corresponding brane separations, one of which is tuned to have zero cosmological constant. We show that in the other solution, which is a false vacuum state, the 4-D cosmological constant can be naturally small, du…
We examine the cosmology and hierarchy of scales in models with branes immersed in a five-dimensional curved spacetime subject to radion stabilization. When the radion field is time-independent and the inter-brane spacing is stabilized, the universe can naturally find itself in the radiation-dominated epoch. This feature is independent of the form of the stabilizing potential. We recover the standard Friedmann equations without assuming a specific form for the bulk energy-momentum tensor. In the models considered, if the observable brane has positive tension, a solution to the hierarchy proble…
We study an effective 4-dimensional scalar-tensor field theory, originated from an underlying brane-bulk warped geometry, to explore the scenario of inflation. It is shown that the inflaton potential naturally emerges from the radion energy-momentum tensor which in turn results into an inflationary model of the Universe on the visible brane that is consistent with the recent results from the Planck's experiment. The dynamics of modulus stabilization from the inflaton rolling condition is demonstrated. The implications of our results in the context of recent BICEP2 results are also discussed.
We study the inflationary dynamics in a model of slow-roll inflation in warped throat. Inflation is realized by the motion of a D-brane along the radial direction of the throat, and at later stages instabilities develop in the angular directions. We closely investigate both the single field potential relevant for the slow-roll phase, and the full multi-field one including the angular modes which becomes important at later stages. We study the main features of the instability process, discussing its possible consequences and identifying the vacua towards which the angular modes are driven.
Using DBI inflation as an example, we demonstrate that the detailed geometry of warped compactification can leave an imprint on the cosmic microwave background (CMB). We compute CMB observables for DBI inflation in a generic class of warped throats and find that the results (such as the sign of the tilt of the scalar perturbations and its running) depend sensitively on the precise shape of the warp factor. In particular, we analyze the warped deformed conifold and find that the results can differ from those of other warped geometries, even when these geometries approximate well the exact metri…
An impressed feature of inflation on warped Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) brane is that the inflationary phase exits spontaneously for a scalar inflaton field with exponential potential, which presents a graceful exit mechanism for the inflation. But its reheating mechanism leaves open. We investigate the curvaton reheating in inflation on warped DGP brane model. The reheating may occur in effctively 5 dimensional or 4 dimensional stage. We study the permitted parameter space of the curvaton field in detail. We demonstrate how the inflation model of the warped DGP brane is improved by the curv…
We propose a novel inflationary scenario in string theory in which the inflaton field is a 'Wilson line' degree of freedom in the worldvolume of a probe Dp-brane, in a warped flux compactification. Kinetic terms for Wilson line fields on the world volume of a D-brane take a nonstandard Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) form. Thus, we work in the framework of DBI inflation. This extends the original slow roll Wilson line inflationary scenario, where only the quadratic piece was considered. Warped DBI Wilson line inflation offers an attractive alternative to ordinary (position field) DBI inflation, inasmu…
We point out that supersymmetric warped geometry can provide a solution to the SUSY flavor problem, while generating hierarchical Yukawa couplings. In supersymmetric theories in a slice of AdS_5 with the Kaluza-Klein scale M_KK much higher than the weak scale, if all visible fields originate from 5D bulk fields and supersymmetry breaking is mediated by the bulk radion superfield and/or some brane chiral superfields, potentially dangerous soft scalar masses and trilinear $A$ parameters at M_KK can be naturally suppressed compared to the gaugino masses by small warp factor. We present simple mod…
A long period of inflation can be triggered when the inflaton is held up on the top of a steep potential by the infrared end of a warped space. We first study the field theory description of such a model. We then embed it in the flux stabilized string compactification. Some special effects in the throat reheating process by relativistic branes are discussed. We put all these ingredients into a multi-throat brane inflationary scenario. The resulting cosmic string tension and a multi-throat slow-roll model are also discussed.
Supersymmetry breaking by constant (field independent) superpotentials localized at boundaries is studied in a supersymmetric warped space model. We calculate the Kaluza-Klein mass spectrum of the hypermultiplet. We take into account of the radion and the compensator supermultiplets, as well as the bulk mass $c$ for the hypermultiplet. The mass splitting is similar to that of the Scherk-Schwarz supersymmetry breaking (in flat space) for large $|c|$, and has an interesting dependence on the bulk mass parameter $c$. We show that the radius is stabilized by the presence of the constant boundary s…
Braneworld inflation on the resolved warped deformed conifold is represented by the dynamics of a D3-brane probe with the world volume of a brane spanning the large dimensions of the observable Universe. This model was recently proposed as a string theory candidate for slow-roll inflationary cosmology in hep-th/0511254. During inflation, the scalar curvature of the Universe is determined by the Hubble scale. We argue that taking into account the curvature of the inflationary Universe renders dynamics of the D3-brane fast-roll deep inside the warped throat.
We examine how reheating occurs after brane-antibrane inflation in warped geometries, such as those which have recently been considered for Type IIB string vacua. We adopt the standard picture that the energy released by brane annihilation is dominantly dumped into massive bulk (closed-string) modes which eventually cascade down into massless particles, but argue that the this need not mean that the result is mostly gravitons with negligible visible radiation on the Standard Model brane. We show that if the inflationary throat is not too strongly warped, and if the string coupling is sufficien…
We derive constraints on the tensor to scalar ratio and on the background charge of the warped throat for DBI inflation driven by D5- and D7-branes wrapped over cycles of the throat. It is shown that the background charge well beyond the known maximal value is required in most cases for DBI inflation to generate cosmological observables compatible with the WMAP3 data. Most of the results derived in this paper are insensitive to the details of the inflaton potential, and could be applied to generic warped throats.
Recent models of axion monodromy inflation in string theory link the inflationary potential and the moduli stabilization potential. Realistic inflationary models require mechanisms to moderately suppress the inflaton mass with respect to the moduli stabilization scale. In this paper we explore the realization of this idea using warped throats, whose redshifted infrared region supports the inflaton mode. The inflaton potential and its monodromy arise from couplings to the fluxes supporting the throat. We provide explicit realizations of such throats in type IIB with NSNS and RR 3-form field str…
We show that in brane-world scenarios with warped extra dimensions, the Casimir force due to bulk matter fields may be sufficient to stabilize the radion field $ϕ$. In particular, we calculate one loop effective potential for $ϕ$ induced by bulk gravitons and other possible massless bulk fields in the Randall-Sundrum background. This potential has a local extremum, which can be a maximum or a minimum depending on the detailed bulk matter content. If the parameters of the background are chosen so that the hierarchy problem is solved geometrically, then the radion mass induced by Casimir correct…
We consider a five dimensional AdS spacetime, in presence of higher curvature term like $F(R) = R + αR^2$ in the bulk, in the context of Randall-Sundrum two-brane model. Our universe is identified with the TeV scale brane and emerges as a four dimensional effective theory. From the perspective of this effective theory, we examine the possibility of "inflationary scenario" by considering the on-brane metric ansatz as an FRW one. Our results reveal that the higher curvature term in the five dimensional bulk spacetime generates a potential term for the radion field. Due to the presence of radion …
In the context of (4+d)-dimensional general relativity, we propose an inflationary scenario wherein 3 spatial dimensions grow large, while d extra dimensions remain small. Our model requires that a self-interacting d-form acquire a vacuum expectation value along the extra dimensions. This causes 3 spatial dimensions to inflate, whilst keeping the size of the extra dimensions nearly constant. We do not require an additional stabilization mechanism for the radion, as stable solutions exist for flat, and for negatively curved compact extra dimensions. From a four-dimensional perspective, the radi…
We examine the cosmology of the Randall-Sundrum model in a dynamic setting where scalar fields are present in the bulk as well as the branes. This generates a mechanism similar to that of Goldberger-Wise for radion stabilization and the recovery of late-cosmology features in the branes. Due to the induced radion dynamics, the inflating branes roll towards the minimum of the radion potential, thereby exiting inflation and reheating the Universe. In the slow roll part of the potential, the 'TeV' branes have maximum inflation rate and energy as their coupling to the radion and bulk modes have min…
We study inflation arising from the motion of a BPS D3-brane in the background of a stack of k parallel D5-branes. There are two scalar fields in this set up-- (i) the radion field R, a real scalar field, and (ii) a complex tachyonic scalar field chi living on the world volume of the open string stretched between the D3 and D5 branes. We find that inflation is realized by the potential of the radion field, which satisfies observational constraints coming from the Cosmic Microwave Background. After the radion becomes of order the string length scale l_s, the dynamics is governed by the potentia…
We analyze warm tachyonic inflation, proposed in the literature, but from the viewpoint of four dimensional effective action for tachyon field on a non-BPS D3-brane. We find that consistency with observational data on density perturbation and validity of effective action requires warped compactification. The number of background branes which source the flux is found to be of the order of 10 in contrast to the order of $10^{14}$ in the standard cold inflationary scenario.
A new mechanism for the radius stabilization is proposed in a 5D super-Yang-Mills model in the warped background of ${AdS}_5$. Dominant 1-loop contribution to the supersymmetric 4D effective potential is estimated to depend on the radion. The minimization of the effective potential incorporating the tree potential and a Fayet-Iliopoulos $D$-term for the gauge group U(1) reveals an interesting case that the radius is stabilized at a length corresponding to an intermediate mass scale $10^{11-13}$ GeV.
We consider a five dimensional warped spacetime where the bulk geometry is governed by higher curvature $F(R)$ gravity. In this model, we determine the modulus potential originating from the scalar degree of freedom of higher curvature gravity. In the presence of this potential, we investigate the possibility of modulus (radion) tunneling leading to an instability in the brane configuration. Our results reveal that the parametric regions where the tunneling probability is highly suppressed, corresponds to the parametric values required to resolve the gauge hierarchy problem.
We develop a possible cosmology for a Universe with n additional spatial dimensions of variable scale, and an associated scalar field, the radion, which is distinct from the field responsible for inflation, the inflaton. Based on a particular ansatz for the effective potential for the inflaton and radion (which may emerge in string theory), we show that the early expansion of the Universe may proceed in three stages. First, the radion becomes trapped at a value much smaller than the size of the extra dimensions today. Second, the Universe expands exponentially, but with a Planck mass smaller t…
We propose a simple model of extra-dimensional radius stabilization in a supersymmetric Randall-Sundrum model. In our model, we introduce only a bulk hypermultiplet and source terms (tadpole terms) on each boundary branes. With appropriate choice of model parameters, we find that the radius can be stabilized by supersymmetric vacuum conditions. Since the radion mass can be much larger than the gravitino mass and even the original supersymmetry breaking scale, radius stability is ensured even in the presence of supersymmetry breaking. We find a parameter region in which unwanted scalar masses i…
We construct an inflation model with inflaton non-minimally coupled to gravity on a warped DGP brane. Using an exponential potential, we calculate scalar power spectrum, spectral index and the running of the spectral index. We show that for a suitable range of non-minimal coupling it is possible to exit the inflationary phase spontaneously and without any mechanism, even in the case that minimal inflation can not exit spontaneously. By a detailed analysis of parameter space, we study the constraints imposed on the non-minimal coupling from recent observational data.
We consider the evolution of cosmological perturbations during radion stabilization, which we assume to happen after a period of inflation in the early universe. Concentrating on the Randall-Sundrum brane world scenario, we find that if matter is present both on the positive and negative tension branes, the coupling of the radion to matter fields could have significant impact on the evolution of the curvature perturbation and on the production of entropy perturbations. We investigate both the case of a long-lived and short-lived radion and outline similarities and differences to the curvaton s…
We argue that brane anti-brane inflation in string theory de-Sitter vacua of Kachru-Kallosh-Linde-Trivedi (KKLT) is captured by the dynamics of a D3-brane probe in the local KKLT model constructed in hep-th/0203041. This provides a framework to study in a controllable way corrections to the inflationary slow roll parameter ηdue to conformal symmetry breaking in a warped geometry throat. We compute the leading correction to ηfor the inflation in the Klebanov-Tseytlin throat geometry. We find that in certain regime this correction tends to decrease η. Computations in a different regime suggest h…
We construct a model of hybrid inflation within a controlled five-dimensional effective field theory framework. The inflaton and waterfall fields are realized as naturally light moduli of the 5D compactification. At the quantum level, waterfall loops must be cut off at a scale considerably lower than the inflaton field transit in order to preserve slow-roll dynamics without fine-tuning. We accomplish this by a significant warping, or redshift, between the extra-dimensional regions in which the inflaton and waterfall fields are localized. The mechanisms we employ have been separately realized i…
About a decade ago, using a specific expansion scheme, effective, on-brane scalar tensor theories of gravity were proposed by Kanno and Soda (Phys.Rev. {\bf D 66} 083506 ,(2002)) in the context of the warped two brane model of Randall--Sundrum. The inter-related effective theories on both the branes were derived with the space-time dependent radion field playing a crucial role. Taking a re-look at this effective theory, we find cosmological and spherically symmetric, static solutions sourced by a radion--induced, effective stress energy, as well as additional, on-brane matter. The distance bet…
We investigate in the context of brane inflation the possibility of additional light scalar fields generating significant power spectrum and non-Gaussianities at the end of inflation affecting the CMB scale observations. We consider the specific mechanism outlined by Lyth and describe the necessary criteria for it to be potentially important in a warped throat. We also discuss different mechanisms for uplifting the vacuum energy which can lead to different dominant contributions of the inflaton potential near the end of inflation. We then apply such criteria to one of the most detailed brane i…
Previous work on DBI inflation, which achieves inflation through the motion of a $D3$ brane as it moves through a warped throat compactification, has focused on the region far from the tip of the throat. Since reheating and other observable effects typically occur near the tip, a more detailed study of this region is required. To investigate these effects we consider a generalized warp throat where the warp factor becomes nearly constant near the tip. We find that it is possible to obtain 60 or more e-folds in the constant region, however large non-gaussianities are typically produced due to t…
We discuss an inflation model, in which the inflation is driven by a single scalar field with exponential potential on a warped DGP brane. In contrast to the power law inflation in standard model, we find that the inflationary phase can exit spontaneously without any mechanism. The running of the index of scalar perturbation spectrum can take an enough large value to match the observation data, while other parameters are in a reasonable region.
We study a possible amplification mechanism for the curvature perturbations generated during inflation by a Dirac-Born-Infeld (DBI) inflaton in the presence of a sharp feature in the warp factor. The large growth resulting in the scalar power spectrum is a consequence of the decreasing speed of sound. We obtain analytical approximate expressions for the relevant dynamical quantities both in the slow roll phase and during the transient phase which leads to the amplification. We finally compare our approximations to the exact numerical evolution and give, in such a context, the general rules for…
