We revisit the electroweak precision tests for Higgsless models of strong EWSB. We use the Vector Meson Dominance approach and express S and T via couplings characterizing vector and axial spin-1 resonances of the strong sector. These couplings are constrained by the elastic unitarity and by requiring a good UV behavior of various formfactors. We pay particular attention to the one-loop contribution of resonances to T (beyond the chiral log), and to how it can improve the fit. We also make contact with the recent studies of Conformal Technicolor. We explain why the second Weinberg sum rule never converges in these models, and formulate a condition necessary for preserving the custodial symmetry in the IR.
We review the ILC capabilities to explore the electroweak (EW) sector of the SM at high precision and the prospects of unveiling signals of BSM physics, either through the presence of new particles in higher-order corrections or via direct production of extra EW gauge bosons. This includes electroweak precision observables, global fits to the SM Higgs boson mass as well as triple and quartic gauge boson couplings.
It is found that in presence of electroweak interactions the gauge covariant diagonalization of the axial-vector -- pseudoscalar mixing in the effective meson Lagrangian leads to a deviation from the vector meson and the axial-vector meson dominance of the entire hadronic electroweak current. The essential features of such a modification of the theory are investigated in the framework of the extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with explicit breaking of chiral $U(2) \times U(2)$ symmetry. The Schwinger-DeWitt method is used as a major tool in our study of the real part of the relevant effective a…
Light-cone dominance is established for a particular set of semi-inclusive observables in $e^+ e^-$ hadronic annihilation. This allows to deduce, with a certain degree of rigor, the angular distribution of hadronic energy from first principles, without invoking quark-hadron duality.
We study the enhancement of the di-Higgs production cross section resulting from the resonant decay of a heavy Higgs boson at hadron colliders in a model with a Higgs singlet. This enhancement of the double Higgs production rate is crucial in understanding the structure of the scalar potential and we determine the maximum allowed enhancement such that the electroweak minimum is a global minimum. The di-Higgs production enhancement can be as large as a factor of ~ 18 (13) for the mass of the heavy Higgs around 270 (420) GeV relative to the Standard Model rate at 14 TeV for parameters correspond…
In this thesis, various extensions of the scalar sector have been considered comprising of different ${SU(2)_L}$ multiplets. If the extended scalar sector participates in the electroweak symmetry breaking then these extra scalars need to couple with the known standard model particles. In this work, it has been shown that the vector boson scattering involving scalar boson exchanges provide a complimentary way to direct search methods to probe into the scalar sector. As different extended scalar sectors have similar types of scalar fields, e.g., an extra $CP$-even Higgs, charged Higgs etc., thes…
We present an extended study of how the Next to Minimal Supersymmetric Model easily avoids fine-tuning in electroweak symmetry breaking for a SM-like light Higgs with mass in the vicinity of $100\gev$, as beautifully consistent with precision electroweak data, while escaping LEP constraints due to the dominance of $h\to aa$ decays with $m_a<2m_b$ so that $a\to \tauptaum$ or jets. The residual $\sim 10%$ branching ratio for $h\to b\anti b$ explains perfectly the well-known LEP excess at $\mh\sim 100\gev$. Details of model parameter correlations and requirements are discussed as a function $\tan…
B-meson decays play an important role in flavour physics. The $B \rightarrow πK$ decays are dominated by QCD loop diagrams (penguins) but also electroweak penguins, where New Physics may enter, have a significant impact on the decay amplitude. Since measurements from B-factories indicate deviations from the Standard Model picture, we perform a state-of-the-art analysis to explore the correlation of the CP asymmetries and to get an updated picture. We propose a strategy for the optimal determination of the parameters which describe electroweak penguin effects and apply it to current data, utili…
We calculate the spectrum of gravitational waves originated from strongly first order electroweak phase transition in the extended Higgs model with a real singlet field. In order to calculate the bubble nucleation rate, we perform a two-field analysis to evaluate bounce solutions connecting the true and the false vacua using the one-loop effective potential at finite temperatures. Imposing the Sakharov condition of the departure from thermal equilibrium for baryogenesis, we survey allowed regions of parameters of the model. We then investigate the gravitational waves produced at electroweak bu…
Strongly-coupled gauge theories are an important ingredient in the construction of many extensions of the standard model, particularly for models of electroweak symmetry breaking in which the Higgs boson is a composite object. There is a large parameter space of such gauge theories with a rich phase structure, particularly in the presence of large numbers of fermionic degrees of freedom. Lattice simulation provides a non-perturbative way to explore this space of strongly-coupled theories, and to search for interesting dynamical features. Here I review recent progress in the simulation of such …
We consider a realistic example of supersymmetric grand unification based on $SU(3)_c \times SU(3)_L \times SU(3)_R$ in which the electroweak (EW) higgs doublets are `light' as a consequence of the `pseudogoldstone' mechanism. We discuss radiative EW breaking in this model, exploring in particular the `small' (order unity) and `large' $(\approx m_t/m_b)$ $\tan β$ regions by studying the variations of $r (\equiv \sqrt{μ^2_{1,2}/μ^2_3})$, where $μ^2_{1,2,3}$ are the well known MSSM parameters evaluated at the GUT scale. For $r$ sufficiently close to unity the quantity $\tan β$ can be of order un…
While the LHC takes on the challenge of experimentally exploring the electroweak symmetry breaking sector, it is not only interesting but also crucial to explore alternatives to the Standard Model scenario with an elementary scalar Higgs boson. The idea of electroweak symmetry breaking by some new strong dynamics is discussed. A simple, general and self-consistent low energy effective description of Higgsless models is introduced. This effective theory is studied from the point of view of prolonging perturbative unitarity of WW scattering by spin-1 resonances originating from the strongly inte…

Supersymmetric models with low electroweak fine-tuning contain light higgsinos with mass not too far from m_h\simeq 125 GeV, while other sparticles can be much heavier. In the R-parity conserving MSSM, the lightest neutralino is then a higgsino-like WIMP (albeit with non-negligible gaugino components), with thermal relic density well below measured values. This leaves room for axions (or other, perhaps not as well motivated, stable particles) to function as co-dark matter particles. The local WIMP abundance is then expected to be below standard estimates, and direct and indirect detection rate…
We embed the Next-to Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model into gauge mediation of supersymmetry breaking and study the phenomenology of scenarios where the gauge-mediation contributions to soft parameters are deflected by superpotential interactions of the gauge singlet with the messenger fields and the Higgs doublets. This kind of models provide a satisfactory solution to the mu-b_mu problem of gauge mediation, compatible with the adequate pattern of electroweak symmetry breaking and a realistic spectrum with supersymmetric partners at the TeV scale without requiring a significant fine tunin…
Simple Composite Higgs models predict new vector-like fermions not too far from the electroweak scale, yet LHC limits are now sensitive to the TeV scale. Motivated by this tension, we explore the holographic dual of the minimal model, MCHM5, to understand how far naive 4D predictions are from their 5D duals. Interestingly, we find that the usual hierarchy among the vector-like quarks is not generic, hence ameliorating the tuning issue. We find that lowering the UV cutoff in the 5D picture allows for heavier top partners, while keeping the mass of the Higgs boson at its observed value. In the 4…
In view of the annnouncement that in 2012 the LHC will run at 8 TeV, we study the possibility of detecting signals of alternative mechanisms of ElectroWeak Symmetry Breaking, described phenomenologically by unitarized models, at energies lower than 14 TeV. A complete calculation with six fermions in the final state is performed using the PHANTOM event generator. Our results indicate that at 8 TeV some of the scenarios with TeV scale resonances are likely to be identified while models with no resonances or with very heavy ones will be inaccessible, unless the available luminosity will be much h…
We examine an extension of the SM Higgs sector by a Higgs triplet taking into consideration the Higgs-like particle discovery at the LHC with mass around 125 GeV. We evaluate the bounds on the scalar potential through the unitarity of the scattering-matrix. Considering with and without $\Z_2$-symmetry on the extra triplet, we derive constraints on the parameter space. We identify the region of the parameter space that corresponds to the stability and metastability of the electroweak vacuum. We also show that at large field values the scalar potential of this model is suitable to explain inflat…
The $B\toππ,πK$ system offers a powerful laboratory to probe strong and weak interactions. Using the isospin symmetry, we determine hadronic $B\toππ$ parameters from data where new measurements of direct CP violation in $B^0_d\toπ^0π^0$ resolve a discrete ambiguity. With the help of the $SU(3)$ flavour symmetry, the $B\toππ$ parameters can be converted into their $B\toπK$ counterparts, thereby allowing us to make predictions of observables. A particularly interesting decay is $B^0_d\toπ^0 K_{\rm S}$ as it exhibits mixing-induced CP violation. Using an isospin relation, complemented with a robu…
Using techniques of algorithmic algebraic geometry, we present a new and efficient method for explicitly computing the vacuum space of N=1 gauge theories. We emphasize the importance of finding special geometric properties of these spaces in connecting phenomenology to guiding principles descending from high-energy physics. We exemplify the method by addressing various subsectors of the MSSM. In particular the geometry of the vacuum space of electroweak theory is described in detail, with and without right-handed neutrinos. We discuss the impact of our method on the search for evidence of unde…
In this thesis we try to discuss certain phenomenological aspects of an R-parity violating non-minimal supersymmetric model, called $μν$SSM. We show that $μν$SSM can provide a solution to the $μ$-problem of supersymmetry and can simultaneously accommodate the existing three flavour global data from neutrino experiments even at the tree level with the simple choice of flavour diagonal neutrino Yukawa couplings. We show that it is also possible to achieve different mass hierarchies for light neutrinos at the tree level itself. In $μν$SSM, the effect of R-parity violation together with a seesaw m…
New physics could be explored through loop effects by the precision measurements at the Circular Electron Positron Collider due to its clean collision environment and high luminosity. In this work, we focus on two dark matter models that involve additional electroweak fermionic multiplets. We calculate their one-loop corrections to five processes, i.e. $e^+e^- \to μ^+μ^-, ~Zh, ~ZZ, ~W^+W^-$, and $Zγ$, and investigate the corresponding signatures at CEPC with the projected sensitivity. We find that the detectable parameter regions of these processes are complementary. The combined analysis show…
We study the impact of fermionic dark matter (DM) on projected Higgs precision measurements at the Circular Electron Positron Collider (CEPC), including the one-loop effects on the $e^+e^-\to Zh$ cross section and the Higgs boson diphoton decay, as well as the tree-level effects on the Higgs boson invisible decay. As illuminating examples, we discuss two UV-complete DM models, whose dark sector contains electroweak multiplets that interact with the Higgs boson via Yukawa couplings. The CEPC sensitivity to these models and current constraints from DM detection and collider experiments are inves…
We investigate the sensitivity to weakly interacting scalar dark matter from future determination of electroweak oblique parameters in the Circular Electron-Positron Collider (CEPC) project. As illuminating examples, three dark matter models with scalar electroweak multiplets are studied. The multiplet couplings to the standard model Higgs doublet can break the mass degeneracy among the components, leading to nonzero contributions to oblique parameters. The dark matter candidate in these model is either a CP-even or CP-odd scalar, whose trilinear coupling to the Higgs boson could induce direct…
It is known that in the absence of a gauge singlet field, a specific class of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking non-holomorphic (NH) terms can be soft breaking in nature so that they may be considered along with the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and beyond. There have been studies related to these terms in minimal supergravity based models. Consideration of an F-type SUSY breaking scenario in the hidden sector with two chiral superfields however showed Planck scale suppression of such terms. In an unbiased point of view for the sources of SUSY breaking, the NH terms in a phenomenolo…
The Next to Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM) with a Higgs-singlet coupling λ close to unity, moderate tan β and stop masses below 1 TeV minimizes the fine tuning of the electroweak scale, making possible that the lightest new particles, except perhaps for the LSP, be part of the extended Higgs system. We show how the measurements of the couplings of the 126 GeV Higgs boson constrain the region of the physical parameters of a generic NMSSM most relevant to this context. In the same region of parameter space we determine the cross section for the production of a heavier CP-even scal…

We point out that the ratio of $W^+ W^- \to W^+ W^-$ and $W^+W^- \to ZZ$ cross sections is a sensitive probe of the dynamics of electroweak symmetry breaking, in the CM energy region $\sqrt {s_{\rm ww}^{}} \agt 1$~TeV where vector boson scattering may well become strong. We suggest ways in which this ratio can be extracted at a 1.5 TeV $e^+e^-$ linear collider, using $W^\pm,Z \to jj$ hadronic decays and relying on dijet mass resolution to provide statistical discrimination between $W^\pm$ and $Z$. $WW$ fusion processes studied here are unique for exploring scalar resonances of mass about 1 TeV…
We explore the one-loop electroweak radiative corrections in the minimal $SU(5)$ and the no-scale flipped $SU(5)$ supergravity models via explicit calculation of vacuum polarization contributions to the $ε_{1,2,3}$ parameters. Experimentally, $ε_{1,2,3}$ are obtained from a global fit to the LEP observables, and $M_W/M_Z$ measurements. We include $q^2$-dependent effects which have been neglected in most previous ``model-independent" analyses of this type. These effects induce a large systematic negative shift on $ε_{1,2,3}$ for light chargino masses ($m_{χ^\pm_1}\lsim70\GeV$). In agreement wit…
The electroweak properties of light and charmed D and Ds pseudoscalar mesons are investigated within a unified covariant constituent quark model. The quark-antiquark-meson vertices are assumed to have a symmetric form by the exchange of quark momenta, which is successful in describing the light pseudoscalar meson properties. The flavor decomposition of the elastic electromagnetic form factors, electromagnetic charge radii, and weak decay constants are calculated. Based on the results a discussion on the SU(3) and SU(4) symmetry breaking is made and a comparison with the pion and kaon propertie…
We consider models with the $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry, which is spontaneously broken by dark Higgs mechanism. We discuss patterns of the electroweak phase transition and detectability of gravitational waves (GWs) when strongly first order phase transition (1stOPT) occurs. It is pointed out that the collider bounds on the properties of the discovered Higgs boson exclude a part of parameter space that could otherwise generate detectable GWs. We find that GWs produced from multi-step PT can be detected at future observations such as LISA and DECIGO if the dark photon mass is $m_X^{} \gtrsim 25$ GeV…
The LHC is exploring electroweak (EW) physics at the scale EW symmetry is broken. As the LHC and new high energy colliders push our understanding of the Standard Model to ever-higher energies, it will be possible to probe not only the breaking of but also the restoration of EW symmetry. We propose to observe EW restoration in double EW boson production via the convergence of the Goldstone boson equivalence theorem. This convergence is most easily measured in the vector boson plus Higgs production, $Vh$, which is dominated by the longitudinal polarizations. We define EW restoration by carefully…
An important task at future colliders is the measurement of the triple Higgs coupling. Depending on its size relative to the Standard Model (SM) value, certain collider options result in a higher experimental accuracy. Within the framework of Two Higgs Doublet Models (2HDM) type I and II we investigate the allowed ranges for all triple Higgs couplings involving at least one light, SM-like Higgs boson. We take into account theoretical constraints (unitarity, stability), experimental constraints from direct Higgs-boson searches, measurements of the SM-like Higgs-boson properties, flavor observab…
Many beyond the Standard Model (BSM) scenarios involve Higgs couplings to additional electroweak fields. It is well established that these new fields may modify Higgs gamma-gamma and gamma-Z decays at one-loop. However, one unexplored aspect of such scenarios is that by electroweak symmetry one should also expect modifications to the Higgs Z-Z coupling at one-loop and, more generally, modifications to Higgs production and decay channels beyond tree-level. In this paper we investigate the full BSM modified electroweak corrections to associated Higgs production at both the LHC and a future lepto…
We are exploring a generic strongly-interacting Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Sector (EWSBS) with the low-energy effectie field theory for the four experimentally known particles ($W_L^\pm$, $Z_L$, $h$) and its dispersion-relation based unitary extension. In this contribution we provide simple estimates for the production cross section of pairs of the EWSBS bosons and their resonances at proton-proton colliders as well as in a future $e^-e^+$ (or potentially a $μ^-μ^+$) collider with a typical few-TeV energy. We examine the simplest production mechanisms, tree-level production through a $W$ (d…
We consider extended scalar sectors of the Standard Model as ultraviolet-complete motivations for studying the effective Higgs self-interaction operators of the Standard Model effective field theory. We investigate all motivated heavy scalar models which generate the dimension-6 effective operator, $|H|^6$, at tree level and proceed to identify the full set of tree-level dimension-six operators by integrating out the heavy scalars. Of seven models which generate $|H|^6$ at tree level only two, quadruplets of hypercharge $Y=3Y_H$ and $Y=Y_H$, generate only this operator. Next we perform global …
The interaction between the dark $U(1)_d$ sector with the visible Standard Model (SM) sector takes place through the kinetic mixing between the dark photon $U(1)_d$ field $Z_d^μ$ and the SM $U(1)_Y$ gauge field $B_μ$. After the electroweak and $U(1)_d$ symmetry breaking, the dark photon $Z_d^μ$ acquires a mass and mixes with the SM neutral vector boson $Z_μ$. This mixing leads to parity-violating coupling between the $Z_d^μ$ and SM. The coupling between the dark photon and SM can be explored in low energy phenomenology as well as in collider experiments. The Lorentz structure of dark photon in…
We propose a model of cosmology and particle physics in which all relevant scales arise in a natural way from an intermediate string scale. We are led to assign the string scale to the intermediate scale M_* \sim 10^{13} GeV by four independent pieces of physics: electroweak symmetry breaking; the μparameter; the axion scale; and the neutrino mass scale. The model involves hybrid inflation with the waterfall field N being responsible for generating the μterm, the right-handed neutrino mass scale, and the Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking scale. The large scale structure of the Universe is generat…
Exploring MSSM parameter space after the discovery of Higgs Boson with mass 125 GeV naturally demands large top-squark mixing or large trilinear coupling parameter $A_t$ in particular, so as to avoid excessively heavy squark, specially for the universal models like CMSSM. We study stability of electroweak symmetry breaking vacua in possible presence of deeper charge-color symmetry breaking minima within MSSM. Besides stable vacua, we consider scenarios characterized by the presence of global CCB minima, with SM like charge and color conserving vacuum, having stability over cosmologically large…
In this work we consider the Linear BESS model at the LHC. This model can be seen as an adequate benchmark for exploring the phenomenological consequences of a composite Higgs sector since its particle content is the one we would expect in a realistic low energy description of modern (Technicolor inspired) dynamical electroweak symmetry breaking scenarios. Additionally, the model exhibits the property of decoupling, producing a good ultraviolet behavior. We focus on the limits on the masses of the new heavy vector particles imposed by direct resonance searches, recent measurements of the decay…
Precision measurements in nuclear muon capture on the proton and $^3$He allow for tests of the Standard Model for the strong and electroweak interactions, complementary to those achieved in high energy experiments. The present situation and future prospects are reviewed, emphasizing where renewed efforts could prove to be rewarding in exploring ever further beyond the confines of the Standard Model.
A short review of the development of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model is given. The SU(2)x SU(2) and U(3)x U(3) local quark NJL models are considered. The mechanisms of spontaneous breaking of chiral symmetry and vector dominance are shown. The local NJL model allows us to describe the mass spectrum and main strong and electroweak decays of the four ground-state nonets of pseudoscalar, scalar, vector and axial-vector mesons. Applications of this model to the description of mesons in hot and dense medium are discussed. It is shown that for solving problems connected with the description of th…
It is shown that by introducing as dynamical variables in the formulation of gauge theories the frame vectors (or vielbeins) in internal symmetry space, in addition to the standard gauge boson and matter fermion fields, one obtains: (i) for the $su(2) \times u(1)$ symmetry, the standard electroweak theory with the Higgs field thrown in as part of the framed gauge theoretical structure, (ii) for the $su(3) \times su(2) \times u(1)$ symmetry, a "framed standard model" with, apart from the Higgs field as before, a global $su(3)$ symmetry to play the role of fermion generations, plus some other pr…
We present a dedicated complementarity study of gravitational wave and collider measurements of the simplest extension of the Higgs sector: the singlet scalar augmented Standard Model. We study the following issues: (i) the electroweak phase transition patterns admitted by the model, and the proportion of parameter space for each pattern; (ii) the regions of parameter space that give detectable gravitational waves at future space-based detectors; and (iii) the current and future collider measurements of di-Higgs production, as well as searches for a heavy weak diboson resonance, and how these …
A new heavy resonance may be observable at the LHC if it has a significant decay branching fraction into a pair of photons. We entertain this possibility by looking at the modest excess in the diphoton invariant mass spectrum around 750 GeV recently reported in the ATLAS and CMS experiments. Assuming that it is a spinless boson, dubbed $\tilde s$, we consider it within a model containing two weak scalar doublets having zero vacuum expectation values and a scalar singlet in addition to the doublet responsible for breaking the electroweak symmetry. The model also possesses three Dirac neutral si…
