The paper considers the effects of random fluctuations of the local spin connectivities (fluctuations of the geometry) on ground state properties of a two-dimensional quantum antiferromagnet. We analyse the behavior of spins described by the Heisenberg model as a function of what we call phason flip disorder, following a terminology used for aperiodic systems. The calculations were carried out both within linear spin wave theory and using quantum Monte Carlo simulations. An "order by disorder" phenomenon is observed in this model, wherein antiferromagnetism is found to be enhanced by phason disorder. The value of the staggered order parameter increases with the number of defects, accompanied by an increase in the ground state energy of the system.
Commensurate and incommensurate antiferromagnetic fluctuations in the two-dimensional repulsive t-t'-Hubbard model are investigated using functional renormalization group equations. For a sufficient deviation from half filling we establish the existence of local incommensurate order below a pseudocritical temperature T_{pc}. Fluctuations not accounted for in the mean field approximation are important--they lower T_{pc} by a factor \approx2.5.
A self-consistent spin-fluctuation theory is developed to obtain T_N vs. U for the half-filled Hubbard antiferromagnet in the whole U/t range. Good agreement is obtained in the strong coupling limit with the high-temperature series-expansion result for the equivalent Heisenberg model. Quantum, spin-fluctuation correction to the sublattice magnetization is also obtained for all U at the one-loop level. A spin picture is used throughout, and quantum effects are incorporated through transverse spin fluctuations, which are evaluated in the RPA using a new method.
We show the presence of a Casimir type force between domain walls in a two dimensional Heisenberg antiferromagnet subject to geometrical fluctuations. The type of fluctuations that we consider, called phason flips, are well known in quasicrystals, but less so in periodic structures. As the classical ground state energy of the antiferromagnet is unaffected by this type of fluctuation, energy changes are purely of quantum origin. We calculate the effective interaction between two parallel domain walls, defining a slab of thickness d, in such an antiferromagnet within linear spin wave theory. The…
The incommensurate spin fluctuation of the doped triangular antiferromagnet is studied within the t-J model. It is shown that the commensurate peak near the half-filling is split into six incommensurate peaks in the underdoped and optimally doped regimes. The incommensurability increases with the hole concentration at lower dopings, and saturates at higher dopings. Although the incommensurability is almost energy independent, the weight of these incommensurate peaks decreases with energy and temperature.
The spectrum of spin fluctuations in the stacked-triangular antiferromagnet YMnO3 was studied above the Neel temperature using both unpolarized and polarized inelastic neutron scattering. We find an in-plane and an out-of-plane excitation. The in-plane mode has two components just above TN, a resolution-limited central peak and a Debye-like contribution. The quasi-elastic fluctuations have a line-width that increases with q like Dq^z and the dynamical exponent z=2.3. The out-of-plane fluctuations have a gap at the magnetic zone center and do not show any appreciable q-dependence at small wave-…
The high temperature paramagnetic state in an antiferromagnetic (AFM) insulator Pr_{1-x}Ca_{x}MnO_{3} is characterized by the ferromagnetic (FM) spin fluctuations with an anomalously small energy scale. The FM fluctuations show a precipitous decrease of the intensity at the charge ordering temperature T_{CO}, but persist below T_{CO}, and vanish at the AFM transition temperature T_{N}. These results demonstrate the importance of the spin ordering for the complete switching of the FM fluctuation in doped manganites.
I point out that a magnetotransport theory on the basis of the fluctuation exchange (FLEX) approximation, which is proposed in order to explain anomalous transport properties in the normal state of high-$T_{\rm c}$ cuprate superconductors, is not compatible with the Fermi liquid theory and that the anomaly obtained there ascribes to the inconsistency of the approximation.
We show using quantum free energy calculation that the quantum phase transition between U(1) quantum spin liquid (QSL) and antiferromagnet (AFM) phases in pyrochlore quantum antiferromagnet (QAFM) is a first order rather than second order. This change in order from second to first order is induced by gauge fluctuations, which are explicitly taken into account at gauge theory level in our effective low energy theory. We therefore have discovered a fluctuation-induced first order quantum phase transition in pyrochlore QAFM. We explicitly derive the quantum free energy description of this QSL to …
Polarized neutron inelastic scattering experiments have been carried out in the quasi-1D Ising-like antiferromagnet TlCoCl$_3$. We observed the longitudinal magnetic fluctuation $S_{zz} (Q, ω)$ for the spin-wave excitation continuum, which has not been observed in the unpolarized neutron inelastic scattering experiments of the quasi-1D Ising-like antiferromagnets CsCoCl$_3$ and TlCoCl$_3$ so far, together with the transverse magnetic fluctuation $S_{xx} (Q, ω)$. We compared both obtained intensities of $S_{xx} (Q, ω)$ and $S_{zz} (Q, ω)$ with the perturbation theory from the pure Ising limit b…
We propose that if there are two small pocket-like Fermi surfaces, and the spin susceptibility is pronounced around a wave vector {\bf Q} that bridges the two pockets, the spin-singlet superconductivity mediated by spin fluctuations may have a high transition temperature. Using the fluctuation exchange approximation, this idea is confirmed for the Hubbard on a lattice with alternating hopping integrals, for which $T_c$ is estimated to be almost an order of magnitude larger than those for systems with a large connected Fermi surface.
Neutron spectroscopy and diffuse neutron scattering on herbertsmithite [ZnCu3 (OH)6Cl2], a near-ideal realisation of the s = 1/2 kagome antiferromagnet, reveal the hallmark property of a quantum spin liquid; instantaneous short-ranged antiferromagnetic correlations in the absence of a time-averaged ordered moment. These dynamic antiferromagnetic correlations are only very weakly dependent of neutron-energy transfer and temperature, and persist up to 25 meV and 120 K. At low energy transfers a shift of the magnetic scattering to low Q is observed with increasing temperature, providing evidence …
Chiral fluctuations in triangular antiferromagnets (TAFs) at $T \ll T_N$ are studied theoretically. The case of a ferromagnetic interaction along c axis (which is directed perpendicular to the plane of the lattice), Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction ${\bf D}\| c$ and a weak magnetic field ${\bf H}\| c$ is considered in detail. Previously, this model has been proposed to describe quantum TAF CsCuCl$_3$. Expressions for dynamical chirality (DC) are derived within the linear spin-wave approximation. In contrast to non-frustrated antiferromagnets, DC is found to be nonzero even at $D,H=0$ in a one…
Heat and charge conduction were measured in the heavy-fermion metal CeRhIn5, an antiferromagnet with T_N=3.8 K. The thermal resistivity is found to be proportional to the magnetic entropy, revealing that spin fluctuations are as effective in scattering electrons as they are in disordering local moments. The electrical resistivity, governed by a q^2 weighting of fluctuations, increases monotonically with temperature. In contrast, the difference between thermal and electrical resistivities, characterized by an omega^2 weighting, peaks sharply at T_N and eventually goes to zero at a temperature T…
We argue that recent calculations by Amin and Stamp (PRL 77, 301 (1996); cond-mat/9601086) overestimate the strength of the vertex corrections in the spin-fermion model for cuprates. We clarify the physical origin of the apparent discrepancy between their results and earlier calculations. We also comment on the relative sign of the vertex correction.
Using Raman scattering, the quasi-two dimensional organic superconductor k-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Br (T_c=11.8 K) and the related antiferromagnet k-(BEDT-TTF)2Cu[N(CN)2]Cl are studied. Raman scattering provides unique spectroscopic information about magnetic degrees of freedom that has been otherwise unavailable on such organic conductors. Below T=200 K a broad band at about 500 cm-1 develops in both compounds. We identify this band with two-magnon excitation. The position and the temperature dependence of the spectral weight are similar in the antiferromagnet and in the metallic Fermi-liquid. W…
We present a systematic study of quantum fluctuations in the C-type and A-type antiferromagnetic (AF) phases in cubic lattices and in bilayer systems. Using the linear spin-wave theory, we show that the spin stiffness and the quantum corrections to the order parameter and energy obtained for C-AF and A-AF phases decrease with the increasing number of ferromagnetic bonds. Therefore, the quantum spin effects in LaMnO_3 and in LaVO_3 are rather small, suggesting the magnetic moments of 3.91 and 1.89 Bohr's magneton, respectively. They cannot explain the strong reduction of the magnetic order para…

It has been proposed that Sr_2RuO_4 exhibits spin triplet superconductivity mediated by ferromagnetic fluctuations. So far neutron scattering experiments have failed to detect any clear evidence of ferromagnetic spin fluctuations but, instead, this type of experiments has been successful in confirming the existence of incommensurate spin fluctuations near q=(1/3 1/3 0). For this reason there have been many efforts to associate the contributions of such incommensurate fluctuations to the mechanism of its superconductivity. Our unpolarized inelastic neutron scattering measurements revealed that …
We report inelastic neutron scattering results on the spin dynamics in the 50 % hole-doped manganites, Pr{1/2}Sr{1/2}MnO3 and Nd{1/2}Sr{1/2}MnO3. In the paramagnetic phase, these systems exhibit a ridge-type diffuse scattering, indicating a two-dimensional ferromagnetic (FM) correlation. With decreasing temperature, the systems enter the FM state, but simultaneously they develop A-type antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations. The spin wave dispersion in the FM state is strongly anisotropic. These behaviors can be consistently interpreted from a viewpoint of the underlying orbital ordering.
Muon spin rotation (muSR) experiments reveal unconventional spin freezing and dynamics in the two-dimensional (2D) triangular lattice antiferromagnet NiGa2S4. Long-lived disordered Ni-spin freezing (correlation time > 10-6 s at 2 K) sets in below T_f = 8.5 +- 0.5 K with a mean-field-like temperature dependence. The observed exponential temperature dependence of the muon spin relaxation above T_f is strong evidence for 2D critical spin fluctuations. Slow Ni spin fluctuations coexist with quasistatic magnetism at low temperatures but are rapidly suppressed for fields > 10 mT, in marked contrast …
The spin dynamics of mixed-valence YbB12 has been studied by inelastic neutron scattering on a high-quality single crystal. In the Kondo-insulating regime realized at low temperature, the spectra exhibit a spin-gap structure with two sharp, dispersive, in-gap excitations at E = 14.5 and approximately 20 meV. The lower mode is shown to be associated with short-range correlations near the antiferromagnetic wave vector q0 = (1/2, 1/2, 1/2). Its properties are in overall agreement with those expected for a "spin exciton'' branch in an indirect hybridization gap semiconductor.
Single-particle dynamics in the 120$^{\circ}$ ordered antiferromagnetic state of the triangular-lattice Hubbard model is studied using a physically transparent fluctuation approach in terms of multiple magnon emission and absorption processes within the noncrossing approximation. Hole and electron spectral features are evaluated at intermediate $U$, and analyzed in terms of a competition between the frustration-induced direct hopping and the virtual hopping terms. Finite $U$-induced competing interactions and frustration effects contributing through the magnon dispersion are also discussed. Fi…
By revealing an underlying relation between the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (DMI) and the scalar spin chirality, we develop the theory of magnon thermal Hall effects in antiferromagnetic systems. The dynamic fluctuation of the scalar chirality is shown to directly respond to the nontrivial topology of magnon bands. In materials such as the jarosites compounds KFe$_3$(OH)$_6$(SO$_4$)$_2$ and veseignite BaCu$_3$V$_2$O$_8$(OH)$_2$ in the presence of in-plane DMI, the time-reversal symmetry can be broken by the fluctuations of scalar chirality even in the case of coplanar $\mathbf{q}=0$ magn…
We study the low-temperature critical behavior of the one-dimensional Hubbard model near half filling caused by enhanced antiferromagnetic fluctuations. We use a mean-field-type approximation with a two-particle self-consistency renormalizing the bare interaction. It allows us to control a transition from high to low temperatures as well as from weak to strong-coupling. We show that there is a crossover temperature $T_{0}= t\exp\{-1/Uρ(0)\}$ for arbitrary interaction $U>0$ and the bare density of states at the Fermi energy $ρ(0)>0$. The solution at lower temperatures goes over to strong coupli…
The spectral function of transverse spin fluctuations, including the contributions from both the single-particle and the collective (magnon) excitations in an antiferromagnet, is evaluated for the Hubbard model with NN and NNN hoppings in the full U-range from weak coupling to strong coupling. For the NN hopping model, the magnon excitations are dominant for U > 2.5 (d=2), so that an effective spin description of the AF state holds down to a surprisingly low U value. In the weak coupling limit the spectral function is suppressed at low energies, as if due to an effective gap. NNN hopping t' le…
Inelastic neutron scattering experiments show that spin dynamics in the charge ordered insulating ground state of the double-layer perovskite YBaFe2O5 is well described in terms of eg superexchange interactions. Above the Verwey transition at TV = 308 K, t2g double exchange-type conduction within antiferromagnetic FeO2--BaO--FeO2 double layers proceeds by an electron hopping process that requires a spin flip of the five-fold coordinated Fe ions, costing an energy 5<J>S^2 of approximately 0.1 eV. The hopping process disrupts near-neighbor spin correlations, leading to massive damping of zone-bo…
The magnon energy and amplitude renormalization due to intraband particle-hole excitations are studied in a metallic antiferromagnet. The change in sign of the intraband contribution with $ω$ results in significant differences between static and dynamical behaviours. For electron doping, while the coherent magnon peak looses spectral weight and is shifted to higher energy with doping, the low-energy incoherent part becomes increasingly prominent as it narrows in width and shifts to lower energy. Implications for spin dynamics in the electron-doped cuprate $\rm Nd_{2-x} Ce_x Cu O_4$ are discuss…
Sr_2Cu_3O_4Cl_2 is an antiferromagnet consisting of weakly coupled CuO planes which comprise two weakly interacting antiferromagnetic subsystems, I and II, which order at respective temperatures T_I \approx 390K and T_{II} \approx 40K. Except asymptotically near the ordering temperature, these systems are good representations of the two-dimensional quantum spin 1/2 Heisenberg model. For T< T_{II} there are four low-energy modes at zero wave vector, three of whose energies are dominated by quantum fluctuations. For T_{II} < T < T_I there are two low energy modes. The mode with lower energy is d…
We use the dynamical vertex approximation (D$Γ$A) with a Moriyaesque $% λ$ correction for studying the impact of antiferromagnetic fluctuations on the spectral function of the Hubbard model in two and three dimensions. Our results show the suppression of the quasiparticle weight in three dimensions and dramatically stronger impact of spin fluctuations in two dimensions where the pseudogap is formed at low enough temperatures. Even in the presence of the Hubbard subbands, the origin of the pseudogap at weak-to-intermediate coupling is in the splitting of the quasiparticle peak. At stronger coup…
We propose an efficient method to identify the degree of frustration in quasi-2D antiferromagnets described by the J_1-J_2 Heisenberg model. The frustration ratio J_2/J_1 is usually obtained from analysis of susceptibility, specific heat and saturation field. We show that the non-monotonic field dependence of the staggered moment caused by the suppression of quantum fluctuations in a field depends strongly on the frustration ratio. This gives a powerful criterion to determine J_2/J_1 using a combination of exact diagonalization (ED) method for finite clusters and spin wave analysis. We apply t…
By extending our {\it victory} implementation of the parquet approach to include non-local Coulomb interactions, we study the extended Hubbard model on the two-dimensional square lattice with a particular focus on the competition of the non-local charge and spin fluctuations. Surprisingly, we find that their competition, as the mechanism driving the phase transition towards the charge density wave, dominates only in a very narrow parameter regime in the immediate vicinity of the phase transition. Due to the special geometry and the Fermi surface topology of the square lattice, antiferromagneti…
Interplay between antiferromagnetic spin fluctuation and electron-phonon coupling and the origin of the peak-dip-hump structure in the anti-nodal spectrum of high-$T_{c}$ cuprate superconductors

Conclusive evidence of order by disorder is scarce in real materials. Perhaps one of the strongest cases presented has been for the pyrochlore XY antiferromagnet Er2Ti2O7, with the ground state selection proceeding by order by disorder induced through the effects of quantum fluctuations. This identification assumes the smallness of the effect of virtual crystal field fluctuations that could provide an alternative route to picking the ground state. Here we show that this order by virtual crystal field fluctuations is not only significant, but competitive with the effects of quantum fluctuations…
Recently it was argued that quantum phase transitions can be radically different from classical phase transitions with as a highlight the 'deconfined critical points' exhibiting fractionalization of quantum numbers due to Berry phase effects. Such transitions are supposed to occur in frustrated ('$J_1$-$J_2$') quantum magnets. We have developed a novel renormalization approach for such systems which is fully respecting the underlying lattice structure. According to our findings, another profound phenomenon is around the corner: a fluctuation induced (order-out-of-disorder) first order transiti…
We study the finite temperature, low energy, long wave-length spectrum of the dynamic structure factor of the spin-$1/2$ antiferromagnetic Heisenberg chain in the presence of exchange anisotropy and external magnetic fields. Using imaginary-time quantum Monte-Carlo we extract parameters, relevant to characterize a {\it renormalized} Luttinger liquid. For small momentum our results are consistent with a change from propagating spinon density waves to spin diffusion, described by a finite-frequency spin-current relaxation rate. Results for this relaxation rate as well as other Luttinger liquid p…
We present a systematic analysis on the basis of ab initio calculations and many-body perturbation theory for clarifying the dominant fluctuation in complex charge-spin-orbital coupled systems. For a tight-binding multiband model obtained from the maximally-localized Wannier function analysis of the band structure by the local density approximation, we take into account electron correlations at the level of random phase approximation. To identify the dominant fluctuation, we carry out the eigenmode analysis of the generalized susceptibility that includes all the multiple degrees of freedom: ch…
We report on a novel spin-charge fluctuation in the all-in-all-out pyrochlore magnet Cd$_2$Os$_2$O$_7$, where the spin fluctuation is driven by the conduction of thermally excited electrons/holes and associated fluctuation of Os valence. The fluctuation exhibits an activation energy significantly greater than the spin-charge excitation gap and a peculiar frequency range of $10^{6}$--$10^{10}$ s$^{-1}$. These features are attributed to the hopping motion of carriers as small polarons in the insulating phase, where the polaron state is presumably induced by the magnetoelastic coupling via the st…
We study the effects of quantum fluctuations and the excitation spectrum for the antiferromagnetic Heisenberg model on a two-dimensional quasicrystal, by numerically solving linear spin-wave theory on finite approximants of the octagonal tiling. Previous quantum Monte Carlo results for the distribution of local staggered magnetic moments and the static spin structure factor are reproduced well within this approximate scheme. Furthermore, the magnetic excitation spectrum consists of magnon-like low-energy modes, as well as dispersionless high-energy states of multifractal nature. The dynamical …
We show that a collinear Heisenberg antiferromagnet, whose sublattice symmetry is broken at the Hamiltonian level, becomes a fluctuation-induced ferrimagnet at any finite temperature $T$ below the Néel temperature $T_{\rm N}$. We demonstrate this using a layered variant of a square-lattice $J_1$-$J_2$ model. Linear spin-wave theory is used to determine the low-temperature behavior of the uniform magnetization, and non-linear corrections are argued to yield a temperature-induced qualitative change of the magnon spectrum. We then consider a layered Shastry-Sutherland model, describing a frustrat…
The consistent theory of the Heisenberg quantum antiferromagnet in the disordered phase with short range antiferromagnetic order was developed on the basis of the path integral for the spin coherent states. We have presented the Lagrangian of the theory in a form which is explicitly invariant under rotations and have found natural variables in the term of which one can construct a natural perturbation theory. The short wave spin fluctuations are similar to the spin wave theory ones, and the long wave spin fluctuations are governed by the nonlinear sigma model. We have also demonstrated that th…
We analyze the Hertz-Moriya-Millis theory of an antiferromagnetic quantum critical point, in the marginal case of two dimensions (d=2,z=2). Up to next-to-leading order in the number of components (N) of the field, we find that logarithmic corrections do not lead to an enhancement of the Landau damping. This is in agreement with a renormalization-group analysis, for arbitrary N. Hence, the logarithmic effects are unable to account for the behavior reportedly observed in inelastic neutron scattering experiments on CeCu_{6-x}Au_x. We also examine the extended dynamical mean-field treatment (local…
Stabilization of the collinear plateau phase by thermal fluctuations in the disordered triangular lattice antiferromagnet Rb$_{(1-x)}$K$_{x}$Fe(MoO$_4$)$_2$
We study the effect of site dilution and quantum fluctuations in an antiferromagnetic spin system on a square lattice within the linear spin-wave approximation. By performing numerical diagonalization in real space and finite-size scaling, we characterize the nature of the low-energy spin excitations for different dilution fractions up to the classical percolation threshold. We find nontrivial signatures of fractonlike excitations at high frequencies. Our simulations also confirm the existence of an upper bound for the amount of quantum fluctuations in the ground state of the system, leading t…
Neutron scattering from copper benzoate, Cu(C6D5COO)2 3D2O, provides the first direct experimental evidence for field-dependent incommensurate low energy modes in a one-dimensional spin S = 1/2 antiferromagnet. Soft modes occur for wavevectors q=π+- dq(H) where dq(H) ~ 2 πM(H)/gμ_B as predicted by Bethe ansatz and spinon descriptions of the S = 1/2 chain. Unexpected was a field-induced energy gap $Δ(H) \propto H^α$, where $α= 0.65(3)$ as determined from specific heat measurements. At H = 7 T (gμ_B H/J = 0.52), the magnitude of the gap varies from 0.06 - 0.3 J depending on the orientation of th…
On the basis of the Hubbard model, we extend the fluctuation-exchange (FLEX) approach to investigating the properties of antiferromagnetic (AF) phase in electron-doped cuprate superconductors. Furthermore, by incorporating the effect of scatterings due to the disordered dopant-atoms into the FLEX formalism, our numerical results show that the antiferromagnetic transition temperature, the onset temperature of pseudogap due to spin fluctuations, the spectral density of the single particle near the Fermi surface, and the staggered magnetization in the AF phase as a function of electron doping can…
The interpretation of the magnetic phase diagrams of strongly correlated electron systems remains controversial. In particular, the physics of quantum phase transitions, which occur at zero temperature, is still enigmatic. Heavy-fermion compounds aretextbook examples of quantum criticality, as doping, or the application of pressure or a magnetic field can lead to a quantum phase transition between a magnetically ordered state and a paramagnetic regime. A central question concerns the microscopic nature of the critical quantum fluctuations. Are they antiferromagnetic or of local origin? Here we…
We report magnetic susceptibility, specific heat and muon spin relaxation (muSR) experiments on the triangular antiferromagnet La2Ca2MnO7 which develops a genuine two-dimensional, three-sublattice \sqrt{3} \times \sqrt{3} magnetic order below T_N = 2.8 K. From the susceptibility and specific heat data an estimate of the exchange interaction is derived. A value for the spin-wave gap is obtained from the latter data. The analysis of a previously reported inelastic neutron scattering study yields values for the exchange and spin-wave gap compatible with the results obtained from macroscopic measu…
We study the Hubbard model on a square lattice, using the dynamical vertex approximation and the parquet approximation. These methods allow us to describe the mutual interference of spin-fluctuations in the particle-hole channel and superconducting fluctuations in the cooperon channel in an unbiased way. For small dopings we find predominant commensurable antiferromagnetic spin- and d-wave superconducting fluctuations; for larger doping incommensurate antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations are concomitant to triplet s-wave superconducting fluctuations.
The Heisenberg model on a triangular lattice is a prime example for a geometrically frustrated spin system. However most experimentally accessible compounds have spatially anisotropic exchange interactions. As a function of this anisotropy, ground states with different magnetic properties can be realized. Motivated by recent experimental findings on Cs$_{2}$CuCl$_{4-x}$Br$_{x}$, we discuss the full phase diagram of the anisotropic model with two exchange constants $J_{1}$ and $J_{2}$, including possible ferromagnetic exchange. Furthermore a comparison with the related square lattice model is c…
Non-collinear triangular antiferromagnets with a coplanar spin arrangement and vanishing net magnetic moment can exhibit a large anomalous Hall effect owing to their non-vanishing momentum space Berry curvature. Here we show the existence of a large field induced topological Hall effect in the non-coplanar triangular antiferromagnetic geometry of Mn3Sn. A detailed magnetic and Hall effect measurements demonstrate the presence of three distinct Hall contributions; a high temperature anomalous Hall effect, a low temperature topological Hall effect and an intermediate temperature region with coex…
Inelastic neutron scattering measurements of CaFe2As2 under applied hydrostatic pressure show that the antiferromagnetic spin fluctuations observed in the ambient pressure, paramagnetic, tetragonal (T) phase are strongly suppressed, if not absent, in the collapsed tetragonal (cT) phase. These results are consistent with a quenched Fe moment in the cT phase and the strong decrease in resistivity observed upon crossing the boundary from the T to cT phase. The suppression or absence of static antiferromagnetic order and dynamic spin fluctuations in the non-superconducting cT phase supports the no…
In the one-loop approximation for the periodic Anderson model the contributions of spin and charge fluctuations to the renormalization of the antiferromagnetic order parameter are calculated. It is shown that taking into account the fluctuation corrections allows to quantitatively describe the pressure dependence of the Neel temperature observed in quasi-two-dimensional intermetallic antiferromagnet with heavy fermions CeRhIn$_5$.
We study the effect of quantum fluctuations on the half-polarized magnetization plateau of a pyrochlore antiferromagnet. We argue that an expansion around the easy axis limit is appropriate for discussing the ground state selection amongst the classically degenerate manifold of collinear states with a 3:1 ratio of spins parallel/anti-parallel to the magnetization axis. A general approach to the necessary degenerate perturbation theory is presented, and an effective quantum dimer model within this degenerate manifold is derived for arbitrary spin $s$. We also generalize the existing semiclassic…
The anomalous transport and thermodynamic properties in the quantum-critical region, in the cuprates, and in the quasi-two dimensional Fe-based superconductors and heavy-fermion compounds, have the same temperature dependences. This can occur only if, despite their vast microscopic differences, a common statistical mechanical model describes their phase transitions. The antiferromagnetic (AFM)-ic models for the latter two, just as the loop-current model for the cuprates, map to the dissipative XY model. The solution of this model in 2+1 D reveals that the critical fluctuations are determined b…
We present a non-perturbative approach to the problem of quasiparticles coupled to spin-fluctuations. If the fully dressed spin-fluctuation propagator is used in the Feynman graph expansion of the single-particle Green's function, the problem of summing all spin-fluctuation exchange graphs (i.e without virtual fermion loops) can be cast as a functional integral over gaussian distributed random vector fields. A Monte Carlo sampling of this functional integral does not suffer from the 'fermion sign problem' and offers an attractive alternative to perturbative calculations. We compare the results…
We study charge ordered solutions for fermions on a square lattice interacting with dynamic antiferromagnetic fluctuations. Our approach is based on real space Eliashberg equations which are solved self-consistently. We first show that the antiferromagnetic fluctuations can induce arc features in the spectral functions, as spectral weight is suppressed at the hot spots; however, no real pseudogap is generated. At low temperature spontaneous charge order with a $d$-form factor can be stabilized for certain parameters. As long as the interacting Fermi surfaces possesses hot spots, the ordering w…
