The $μν$SSM solves the $μ$ problem of the MSSM and generates correct neutrino masses by simply using right-handed neutrinos. This mechanism implies that only dimensionless trilinear terms, breaking R-parity, are present in the superpotential. We present an extension of the $μν$SSM with an extra U(1) gauge symmetry. We use the extra U(1) charges of the matter fields to forbid the presence in the superpotential of renormalizable and non-renormalizable baryon number violating operators, the trilinear operator producing a domain wall problem, and bilinear operators such as the $μ$ term and the Majorana masses. We apply the anomaly cancellation conditions associated to the extra U(1), to constrain the values of the U(1) charges. We find that six assignments of the U(1) charges to the matter fields are viable, once extra matter is introduced. In particular, three generations of vector-like color triplets and $SU(2)_L$ doublets, as well as six Standard Model singlets are necessary. Electroweak symmetry breaking is viable in the model, with wide regions of the parameter space fulfilling the experimental constraints on the existence of a new gauge boson $Z'$. Neutrinos and the extra gaugino mix with the MSSM neutralinos, producing a generalized see-saw matrix that can reproduce the experimental results on neutrino masses. Finally, we have estimated the tree-level upper bound on the lightest Higgs mass, finding that it can be as large as about 120 GeV.
$μν$SSM is an $R$-parity violating non-minimal supersymmetric model which uses right chiral neutrino superfields to solve the $μ$-problem. The $R$-parity violation together with a TeV scale seesaw mechanism using right handed neutrinos are instrumental for the light neutrino mass generation in $μν$SSM. We show that it is possible to accommodate three flavour global neutrino data in $μν$SSM with three massive neutrinos at the tree level. Ingression of the one-loop corrections to neutrino masses and mixing shows certain variations over the tree level analysis depending on the specific hierarchy …
In an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (popularly known as the $μν$SSM), three right handed neutrino superfields are introduced to solve the $μ$-problem and to accommodate the non-vanishing neutrino masses and mixing. Neutrino masses at the tree level are generated through $R-$parity violation and seesaw mechanism. We have analyzed the full effect of one-loop contributions to the neutrino mass matrix. We show that the current three flavour global neutrino data can be accommodated in the $μν$SSM, for both the tree level and one-loop corrected analyses. We find that it is r…
The $μν$SSM is a simple supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (SM) capable of describing neutrino physics in agreement with experiments. We perform the complete one-loop renormalization of the neutral scalar sector of the $μν$SSM with three generation of right-handed neutrinos in a mixed on-shell/$\overline{\mathrm{DR}}$ scheme. We calculate the full one-loop corrections to the neutral scalar masses of the $μν$SSM. The one-loop contributions are supplemented by available MSSM higher-order corrections. We obtain numerical results for a SM-like Higgs-boson mass consistent with experimen…
The $μν$SSM is a simple supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (SM) capable of predicting neutrino physics in agreement with experiment. In this paper we perform the complete one-loop renormalization of the neutral scalar sector of the $μν$SSM with one generation of right-handed neutrinos in a mixed on-shell/$\overline{\mathrm{DR}}$ scheme. The renormalization procedure is discussed in detail, emphasizing conceptual differences to the minimal (MSSM) and next-to-minimal (NMSSM) supersymmetric standard model regarding the field renormalization and the treatment of non-flavor-diagonal sof…
Recently, several reactor oscillation experiments have successively measured a nonzero value for the neutrino mixing angle ${θ_{13}}$, which is greater than 5 standard deviations. Within framework of the $μ$ from $ν$ Supersymmetric Standard Model ($μν$SSM), three tiny neutrino masses are generated at the tree level through TeV scale seesaw mechanism. In this work, we analyze the neutrino masses and mixing in the $μν$SSM with a "top down" method, assuming neutrino mass spectrum with normal ordering (NO) or inverted ordering (IO).
The $μν$SSM provides a solution to the $μ$ problem of the MSSM and explains the origin of neutrino masses by simply using right-handed neutrino superfields. We have completed the analysis of the vacua in this model, studying the possibility of spontaneous CP violation through complex Higgs and sneutrino vacuum expectation values. As a consequence of this process, a complex MNS matrix can be present. Besides, we have discussed the neutrino physics and the associated electroweak seesaw mechanism in the $μν$SSM, including also phases. Current data on neutrino masses and mixing angles can easily b…
The $μν$SSM solves the $μ$ problem of the MSSM and explains the origin of neutrino masses by simply using right-handed neutrino superfields. The solution implies the breaking of R-parity. The properties and phenomenology of the model are briefly reviewed.
We examine discrete gauge symmetries in axionic extensions of the SSM which provide a solution of the $μ$-problem. Automatic-PQ symmetry and proton stability are shown to be guaranteed by certain discrete symmetries. Focusing on the L-violating discrete symmetries we discuss two sources of neutrino masses and their relevance for the solar neutrino problem.
The $μν$SSM proposes to use right-handed neutrino supermultiplets in order to generate the $μ$ term and neutrino masses simultaneously. We discuss neutrino physics and the associated electroweak seesaw mechanism in this model. We show how to obtain, from the neutralino-neutrino mass matrix of the $μν$SSM, the effective neutrino mass matrix. In particular we discuss certain limits of this matrix that clarify the neutrino-sector behavior of the model. We also show that current data on neutrino masses and mixing angles can easily be reproduced. These constraints can be fulfilled even with a diago…
We study the upper limits on the mass of the lightest and second lightest CP even Higgs bosons in the (M+1)SSM, the MSSM extended by a gauge singlet. The dominant two loop contributions to the effective potential are included, which reduce the Higgs masses by 10 GeV. Since the coupling R of the lightest Higgs scalar to gauge bosons can be small, we study in detail the relations between the masses and couplings of both lightest scalars. We present upper bounds on the mass of a 'strongly' coupled Higgs (R > 1/2) as a function of lower experimental limits on the mass of a 'weakly' coupled Higgs (…
The $μν$SSM has been proposed to solve simultaneously the $μ$-problem of the MSSM and explain current neutrino data. The model breaks lepton number as well as R-parity. In this paper we study the phenomenology of this proposal concentrating on neutrino masses and the decay of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). At first we investigate in detail the $μν$SSM with one generation of singlets, which can explain all neutrino data, once 1-loop corrections are taken into account. Then we study variations of the model with more singlets, which can generate all neutrino masses and mixings at tre…
The nonzero vacuum expectative values of sneutrinos induce spontaneously R-parity and lepton number violation, and generate three tiny Majorana neutrino masses through the seesaw mechanism in the $μν$SSM, which is one of Supersymmetric extensions beyond Standard Model. Applying effective Lagrangian method, we study the transition magnetic moment of Majorana neutrinos in the model here. Under the constraints from neutrino oscillations, we consider the two possibilities on the neutrino mass spectrum with normal or inverted ordering.
The $μν$SSM, one of supersymmetric extensions beyond the Standard Model, introduces three singlet right-handed neutrino superfields to solve the $μ$ problem and can generate three tiny Majorana neutrino masses through the seesaw mechanism. In this work, we investigate the rare decay process $\bar{B}\rightarrow X_sγ$ in the $μν$SSM, under a minimal flavor violating assumption for the soft breaking terms. Constrained by the SM-like Higgs with mass around 125 GeV, the numerical results show that the new physics can fit the experimental data for $\bar{B}\rightarrow X_sγ$ and further constrain the …
We present a self--consistent $E_6$ inspired supersymmetric model with an extra $U(1)_{N}$ gauge symmetry under which right-handed neutrinos have zero charge. We explore the particle spectrum within the constrained version of this exceptional supersymmetric standard model (E$_6$SSM) and discuss its possible collider signatures.
We consider the phenomenological implications of gravitino dark matter in the context of the $μν$SSM. The latter is an R-parity breaking model which provides a solution to the $μ$-problem of the MSSM and explains the origin of neutrino masses by simply using right-handed neutrino superfields. In particular, we analyze the prospects for detecting gamma rays from decaying gravitinos. Gravitino masses larger than 20 GeV are disfavored by the isotropic diffuse photon background measurements, but a gravitino with a mass range between $0.1 - 20$ GeV gives rise to a signal that might easily be observ…
The $μν$SSM solves the $μ$ problem of supersymmetric models and reproduces neutrino data, simply using couplings with right-handed neutrinos $ν$'s. Given that these couplings break explicitly $R$ parity, the gravitino is a natural candidate for decaying dark matter in the $μν$SSM. In this work we carry out a complete analysis of the detection of $μν$SSM gravitino dark matter through $γ$-ray observations. In addition to the two-body decay producing a sharp line, we include in the analysis the three-body decays producing a smooth spectral signature. We perform first a deep exploration of the low…
To solve the $μ$ problem and generate three tiny neutrino masses in the MSSM, the $μ$ from $ν$ Supersymmetric Standard Model ($μν$SSM) introduces three singlet right-handed neutrino superfields, which lead to the mixing of the Higgs doublets with the sneutrinos. The mixing affects the lightest Higgs boson mass and the Higgs couplings. The present observed 95\% CL upper limit on signal strength of the 125 GeV Higgs boson decay $h\rightarrow Zγ$ is 6.6, which still is plenty of space to prove the existence of new physics. In this work, we investigate the signal strength of the 125 GeV Higgs boso…
We analyze the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon $g-2$ in the $μν$SSM. This $R$-parity violating model solves the $μ$ problem reproducing simultaneously neutrino data, only with the addition of right-handed neutrinos. In the framework of the $μν$SSM, light left muon-sneutrino and wino masses can be naturally obtained driven by neutrino physics. This produces an increase of the dominant chargino-sneutrino loop contribution to muon $g-2$, solving the gap between the theoretical computation and the experimental data. To analyze the parameter space, we sample the $μν$SSM using a likelihood dat…
We study Dark Matter (DM) in the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E$_6$SSM). The model has both active and inert Higgs superfields and by imposing discrete symmetries one can generate two DM candidates. We show that the lightest higgsinos of the active and inert sectors give a viable setup for two-component DM. We also illustrate the scope of both direct and indirect detection experiments in extracting such a DM sector. Future experiments of the former kind have a good chance of finding the active component while the inert higgsino will be very hard to detect while those of the latte…
The $μν$SSM is a supersymmetric standard model that solves the $μ$ problem of the MSSM using the R-parity breaking couplings between the right-handed neutrino superfields and the Higgses in the superpotential, $λ_{i} \hat ν^c_i \hat H_d \hat H_u$. The $μ$ term is generated spontaneously through sneutrino vacuum expectation values, $μ=λ_i < \tilde ν^c_i>$, once the electroweak symmetry is broken. In addition, the couplings $κ_{ijk} \hat ν^c_i\hat ν^c_j\hat ν^c_k$ forbid a global U(1) symmetry avoiding the existence of a Goldstone boson, and also contribute to spontaneously generate Majorana mas…
In the $μν$SSM, the presence of $R$-parity violating couplings involving right-handed (RH) neutrinos solves simultaneously the $μ$- and $ν$-problems. We explore extensions of the $μν$SSM adding a $U(1)'$ gauge group, which provides the RH neutrinos with a non-vanishing charge. In these models, dubbed U$μν$SSM, the anomaly cancellation conditions impose the presence of exotic quarks in the spectrum that are vector-like under the standard model (SM) gauge group: either three pairs $SU(2)$ quark singlets, or a pair of quark singlets together with a pair of quark doublets. Several extra singlets u…
The $μν$SSM provides a solution to the $μ$-problem of the MSSM and explains the origin of neutrino masses by simply using right-handed neutrino superfields. Given that R-parity is broken in this model, the gravitino is a natural candidate for dark matter since its lifetime becomes much longer than the age of the Universe. We consider the implications of gravitino dark matter in the $μν$SSM, analyzing in particular the prospects for detecting gamma rays from decaying gravitinos. If the gravitino explains the whole dark matter component, a gravitino mass larger than 20 GeV is disfavored by the i…
We discuss the special role of right-handed neutrinos in the $μν$SSM for solving the $μ$- and $ν$-problems, simultaneously avoiding the potential domain wall and tadpole problems, In particular, embedding the $μν$SSM in the framework of superstrings implies that not all gauge invariant terms are necessarily present in the superpotential, and thus there is more flexibility to allow only those that avoid the domain wall and tadpole problems to be present. These can be non-renormalizable terms of dimension 4 or terms of higher dimensions. In addition, non-perturbative effects can also solve both …
So far the most sophisticated experiments have shown no trace of new physics at the TeV scale. Consequently, new models with unexplored parameter regions are necessary to explain current results, re-examine the existing data, and propose new experiments. In this Letter, we present a modified version of the $μν$SSM supersymmetric model where a non-Universal extra U(1) gauge symmetry is added in order to restore an effective R-parity that ensures proton stability. We show that anomalies equations cancel without having to add \emph{any} exotic matter, restricting the charges of the fields under t…
The Exceptional Supersymmetric (SUSY) Standard Model predicts three families of Higgs doublets plus three Higgs singlets, where one family develops vacuum expectation values (VEVs), while the remaining two which do not are called Inert. The model can account for the dark matter relic abundance if the two lightest Inert neutralinos, identified as the (next-to) lightest SUSY particles ((N)LSPs), have masses close to half the Z mass. In this case we find that the usual SM-like Higgs boson decays more than 95% of the time into either LSPs or NLSPs. The latter case produces a final state containing…
The $E_6$SSM extension of the MSSM allows for the solution of many of the difficulties that are usually encountered within conventional SUSY breaking scenarios, e.g., the $μ$ problem, the imposition of R-parity 'by hand', the generation of light neutrino masses and obtaining a light Higgs boson with a mass as large as $\sim$ 125 GeV as suggested by recent LHC measurements. In addressing these problems, such a scenario predicts the existence of additional singlet and vector-like superfields beyond those in the MSSM as well as possibly two new neutral gauge bosons near the TeV scale. In this pap…
Within the framework of the $μν$SSM, a displaced dilepton signal is expected at the LHC from the decay of a tau left sneutrino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) with a mass in the range $45 - 100$ GeV. We compare the predictions of this scenario with the ATLAS search for long-lived particles using displaced lepton pairs in $pp$ collisions, considering an optimization of the trigger requirements by means of a high level trigger that exploits tracker information. The analysis is carried out in the general case of three families of right-handed neutrino superfields, where all the neut…
Dark matter decay or annihilation may produce monochromatic signals in the gamma-ray energy range. In this work we argue that there are strong theoretical motivations for studying these signals in the framework of gravitino dark matter decay and we perform a search for gamma-ray spectral lines from 100\,MeV to 10\,GeV with Fermi-LAT data. In contrast to previous line searches at higher energies, the sensitivity of the present search is dominated by systematic uncertainties across most of the energy range considered. We estimate the size of systematic effects by analysing the flux from a number…
The $μν$SSM is a supersymmetric standard model that accounts for light neutrino masses and solves the $μ$ problem of the MSSM by simply using right-handed neutrino superfields. Since this mechanism breaks R-parity, a peculiar structure for the mass matrices is generated. The neutral Higgses are mixed with the right- and left-handed sneutrinos producing 8$\times$8 neutral scalar mass matrices. We analyse the Higgs sector of the $μν$SSM in detail, with special emphasis in possible signals at colliders. After studying in general the decays of the Higges, we focus on those processes that are genui…
The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E$_6$SSM) provides a low energy alternative to the MSSM, with an extra gauged U(1)$_N$ symmetry, solving the $μ$-problem of the MSSM. Inspired by the possible embedding into an E$_6$ GUT, the matter content fills three generations of E$_6$ multiplets, thus predicting exciting exotic matter such as diquarks or leptoquarks. We present predictions from a constrained version of the model (cE$_6$SSM), with a universal scalar mass $m_0$, trilinear mass $A$ and gaugino mass $M_{1/2}$. We reveal a large volume of the cE$_6$SSM parameter space where the co…
We show how a non-Abelian family symmetry Delta(27) can be used to solve the flavour problem of supersymmetric standard models containing three Higgs families such as the Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E(6)SSM). The three 27 dimensional families of the E(6)SSM, including the three families of Higgs fields, transform in a triplet representation of the Delta(27) family symmetry, allowing the family symmetry to commute with a possible high energy E(6) symmetry. The Delta(27) family symmetry here provides a high energy understanding of the Z(2)H symmetry of the E(6)SSM, which solves th…
The Exceptional Supersymmetric Standard Model (E$_6$SSM) is a low energy alternative to the MSSM with an extra $U(1)$ gauge symmetry and three generations of matter filling complete 27-plet representations of $E_6$. This provides both new D and F term contributions that raise the Higgs mass at tree level, and a compelling solution to the $μ$-problem of the MSSM by forbidding such a term with the extra $U(1)$ symmetry. Instead, an effective $μ$-term is generated from the VEV of an SM singlet which breaks the extra $U(1)$ symmetry at low energies, giving rise to a massive $Z^\prime$. We explore …
We review the role played by the '$μ$ from $ν$' supersymmetric standard model ($μν$SSM) in the search for supersymmetry. First, we discuss its theoretical motivation, that is the simultaneous solution of $μ$- and $ν$-problems through the introduction of right-handed neutrinos. The latter produces $R$-parity violation (RPV), giving rise to interesting signals of new physics. As by-products, in the $μν$SSM there are dark matter candidates, and electroweak baryogenesis can be realized. Then, we survey signals by which the model could be tested at the large hadron collider (LHC). In addition to th…
We examine in detail the neutrino masses and mixing patterns in an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with three gauge-singlet neutrinos and R-parity violation. The Majorana masses for the gauge-singlet neutrinos as well as the usual $μ$-term for the Higgs superfields are generated at the electroweak scale through the vacuum expectation values of the singlet sneutrinos. The resulting effective mass matrix for the three light neutrinos have contributions from the seesaw mechanism involving the singlet neutrinos as well as due to the mixing with the heavy neutralinos. This mo…
While standard solar model (SSM) predictions depend on approximately 20 input parameters, SSM neutrino flux predictions are strongly correlated with a single model output parameter, the core temperature $T_c$. Consequently, one can extract physics from solar neutrino flux measurements while minimizing the consequences of SSM uncertainties, by studying flux ratios with appropriate power-law weightings tuned to cancel this $T_c$ dependence. We re-examine an idea for constraining the primordial C+N content of the solar core from a ratio of CN-cycle $^{15}$O to pp-chain $^8$B neutrino fluxes, show…
We calculate flavour dependent lepton asymmetries within the $E_6$ inspired Supersymmetric Standard Model ($\rm E_6SSM$), which has an extra $U(1)_N$ symmetry. In this model, the right-handed neutrino doesn't participate in gauge interactions, allowing it to be used for both the see--saw mechanism and leptogenesis. Extra Higgs, leptons and leptoquarks predicted by the E$_6$SSM contribute to the ordinary lepton CP asymmetries induced by the decays of the lightest right--handed neutrino (and sneutrino) and give rise to a set of extra decay asymmetries. We find that the CP asymmetries can be rela…
We now know firmly that neutrinos have tiny masses, but in the minimal Standard Model there is no natural sources for such tiny masses. On the other hand, the extra heavy Z^{\prime 0} requires the extra Higgs field, the particle generating the mass. Here I propose that the previous 2+2 Higgs scenario could be a natural framework for mass generations for both the neutrinos and the extra Z^{\prime)}. These particles are classified as the "dark matter". Hopefully all the couplings to the "visible" matter are through the neutrinos and the extra Z^{\prime 0}, explaining naturally why the dark matte…
Motivated by the recent developments in stability of hydrogen atom in a space with one finite extra-dimension,we consider that physical mesons are also stable in such a space and estimate their masses in a QCD inspired potential model. Our analysis suggests that a model of mesons with linear plus coulomb potential in a space with one finite extra-dimension of size very very less than 10^{-18} m is compatible with the present experimental data of heavy flavour mesons.
The dynamical fermion mass generation in the 4-dimensional brane is discussed in a model with 5-dimensional Kaluza-Klein fermions in interaction with 4-dimensional fermions. It is found that the dynamical fermion masses are generated beyond the critical radius of the compactified extra dimensional space and may be made small compared with masses of the Kaluza-Klein modes.
In a class of multidimensional models, topology of a thick brane provides three chiral fermionic families with hierarchical masses and mixings in the effective four-dimensional theory, while the full model contains a single vector-like generation. We carry out numerical simulations and reproduce all known Standard Model fermion masses and mixings in one of these models.
We investigate a radiative correction to the masses of Kaluza-Klein(KK) modes in a universal extra dimensional model which are defined on a six-dimensional spacetime with extra space as a two-sphere orbifold $S^2/Z_2$. We first define the Feynman rules which are necessary for the calculation. We then calculate the one-loop diagrams which contribute to the radiative corrections to the KK masses, and obtain one-loop corrections to masses for fermions, gauge bosons and scalar bosons. We estimate the one-loop corrections to KK masses for the first KK modes of standard model particles as a function…
In models with extra dimensions, vectorlike Dirac masses for fermion fields are generically allowed. These masses are independent of electroweak symmetry breaking and do not contribute to the known masses for the quarks and leptons. They control the profile of the bulk wave functions, the mass spectra of Kaluza-Klein modes, and interactions that could be tested in experiments. In this article, we study the effects of bulk masses in electroweak precision measurements and in dark matter and collider searches, to set bounds on the bulk mass parameters in models with a flat universal extra dimensi…
We present a general model with universal extra dimensions in the presence of the bulk fermion masses and boundary localized kinetic terms, which are generically allowed by symmetries of five dimensional gauge theory. We provide a comprehensive analysis for a general UED model, including Kaluza-Klein mass spectra, their interactions with the SM particles, and constraints from LHC, electroweak tests, and dark matter experiments. Finally we show current bounds on the size of allowed universal bulk mass and universal brane-localized terms.
Relic abundance of dark matter is investigated in the framework of universal extra dimension models with right-handed neutrinos. These models are free from the serious Kaluza-Klein (KK) graviton problem that the original universal extra dimension model possesses. The first KK particle of the right-handed neutrino is a candidate for dark matter in this framework. When ordinary neutrino masses are large enough such as the degenerate mass spectrum case, the dark matter relic abundance can change significantly. The scale of the extra dimension consistent with cosmological observations can be 500 G…
We propose a model with one large submm size extra dimension in which the gravity and right-handed (RH) neutrino propagate, but the three Standard Model (SM) families are confined to fat branes of TeV^(-1) size or smaller. The charged leptons and the light neutrinos receive mass from the five dimensional Yukawa couplings with the SM singlet neutrino via electroweak Higgs, while the KK excitations of the SM singlet neutrino gets large TeV scale masses from the five dimensional Yukawa coupling with an electroweak singlet Higgs. The model gives non-hierarchical light neutrino masses, accommodate …
We propose a scheme in that the masses of the heavier leptons obey seesaw type relations. The light lepton masses, except the electron and the electron neutrino ones are generated by one loop level radiative corrections. We work in a version of the 3-3-1 electroweak model that predicts singlets (charged and neutral) of heavy leptons beyond the known ones. An extra U(1)_Omega symmetry is introduced in order to avoid the light leptons get masses at the tree level. The electron mass induces an explicit symmetry breaking at U(1). We discuss also the mixing matrix among four neutrinos. The new ener…
The renormalization group flow of soft supersymmetry breaking masses is sensitive to the field contents of the theory one considers. We point out that the addition of extra vector-like matter fields to the minimal supersymmetric standard model raises the masses of squarks and sleptons relative to those of gauginos. We discuss its phenomenological implications. Besides an obvious effect to the superparticle mass spectrum, we find that radiative corrections from heavier stop loops increase the lightest CP-even Higgs boson mass. We also discuss impact on models with no-scale boundary conditions. …
We propose a new scenario of neutrino masses with a Higgs triplet $(ξ^{++},ξ^+,ξ^0)$ in a theory of large extra dimensions. Lepton number violation in a distant brane acts as the source of a very small trilinear coupling of $ξ$ to the standard Higgs doublet in our brane. Small realistic Majorana neutrino masses are \underline{naturally} obtained with the fundamental scale $M_* \sim {\cal O}(1)$ TeV, foretelling the possible discovery of $ξ$ $(m_ξ\lsim M_*)$ at future colliders. Decays of $ξ^{++}$ into same-sign dileptons are fixed by the neutrino mass matrix. Observation of $μ-e$ conversion in…
We present a supersymmetric model in which the observed fermion masses and mixings are generated by localizing the three generations of matter and the two Higgs fields at different locations in a compact extra dimension. Supersymmetry is broken by the shining method and the breaking is communicated to standard model fields via gaugino mediation. Quark masses, CKM mixing angles and the mu term are generated with all dimensionless couplings of O(1). All dimensionful parameters are of order the five-dimensional Planck scale except for the size of the extra dimension which is of order the GUT scal…
Assuming that a horizontal abelian (gauge) symmetry is at the origin of texture zeros in the fermion mass matrices we show how realistic mass patterns can be generated in the presence of scalar fields whose vacuum expectation value breaks the extra $U(1)$ symmetry. In the simplest scenario with just one pair of singlet fields and under the assumption of L-R symmetry one obtains quark mass matrices {\it à la Fritzsch}. The $U(1)$ symmetry can be made anomaly free by the Green-Schwarz mechanism in which case the canonical unification of the gauge couplings emerges as its byproduct. The generatio…
In this thesis we try to discuss certain phenomenological aspects of an R-parity violating non-minimal supersymmetric model, called $μν$SSM. We show that $μν$SSM can provide a solution to the $μ$-problem of supersymmetry and can simultaneously accommodate the existing three flavour global data from neutrino experiments even at the tree level with the simple choice of flavour diagonal neutrino Yukawa couplings. We show that it is also possible to achieve different mass hierarchies for light neutrinos at the tree level itself. In $μν$SSM, the effect of R-parity violation together with a seesaw m…
Using the resolution of the gauge hierarchy problem recently proposed by Randall and Sundrum, we find a natural explanation for the observed fermion masses and mixings of the three Standard Model (SM) generations. Localizing massless SM matter generations on neighboring 3-branes in an extra dimensional world leads to effective four dimensional masses and mixings from the coupling of the fermions with the background metric. We find that the positions of the 3-branes required to solve the gauge hierachy problem simultaneously reproduces phenomenologically acceptable fermion masses and mixings.
Using the warped extra dimension geometry of the many-brane extension of the Randall-Sundrum solution, we find a natural explanation for the observed quark masses of the three Standard Model (SM) generations. Localizing massless SM matter generations on neighboring 3-branes in an extra dimensional world leads to phenomenologically acceptable effective four dimensional masses arising from the coupling of the fermion field with the background metric. Thus this geometry can simultaneously address the gauge and quark mass hierarchy problems.
We analyze a multi-lepton signal plus missing transverse energy from neutrinos expected at the LHC for a Bino-like neutralino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), when the left sneutrino is the next-to-LSP and hence a suitable source of Binos. The discussion is carried out in the framework of the $μν$SSM, where the presence of $R$-parity violating (RPV) couplings involving right-handed neutrinos solves the $μ$ problem and can reproduce simultaneously the neutrino data. Left sneutrinos/sleptons are pair produced at $pp$ collisions decaying to Binos, with the latter decaying via RPV to…
We discuss the profile of neutrino masses and mixings in models with large extra dimensions when right handed neutrinos are present in the branes along with the usual standard model particles. In these models, string scale must be bigger than $10^{8}$ GeV to have desired properties for the neutrinos at low energies. The lightest neutrino mass is zero and there is oscillations to sterile neutrinos that are different from other models with the bulk neutrino.
We study the localization of fermions on a brane embedded in a space-time with $AdS_n \times M^k$ geometry. Quantum numbers of localized fermions are associated with their rotation momenta around the brane. Fermions with different quantum numbers have different higher-dimensional profiles. Fermion masses and mixings, which are proportional to the overlap of higher-dimensional profiles of the fermions, depend on the fermion quantum numbers.
