We study the complete cosmological evolution of dark matter (DM) density fluctuations for DM particles that decoupled being ultrarelativistic during the radiation dominated era which is the case of keV scale warm DM (WDM). The new framework presented here can be applied to other types of DM and in particular we extend it to cold DM (CDM). The collisionless and linearized Boltzmann-Vlasov equations (B-V) for WDM and neutrinos in the presence of photons and coupled to the linearized Einstein equations are studied in detail in the presence of anisotropic stress with the Newtonian potential generically different from the spatial curvature perturbations. We recast this full system of B-V equations for DM and neutrinos into a system of coupled Volterra integral equations. These Volterra-type equations are valid both in the radiation dominated (RD) and matter dominated (MD) eras during which the WDM particles are ultrarelativistic and then nonrelativistic. This generalizes the so-called Gilbert integral equation only valid for nonrelativistic particles in the MD era. We succeed to reduce the system of four Volterra integral equations for the density and anisotropic stress fluctuations of DM and neutrinos into a system of only two coupled Volterra equations. The kernels and inhomogeneities in these equations are explicitly given functions. Combining the Boltzmann-Vlasov equations and the linearized Einstein equations constrain the initial conditions on the distribution functions and gravitational potentials. In the absence of neutrinos the anisotropic stress vanishes and the Volterra-type equations reduce to a single integral equation. These Volterra integral equations provide a useful and precise framework to compute the primordial WDM fluctuations over a wide range of scales including small scales up to k ~ 1/5 kpc.
Cosmological evolution of warm dark matter fluctuations II: Solution from small to large scales and keV sterile neutrinos
当a固定时,密度衬度随k的增大而增大,< k_c while it decreases for k >其中k k_c为1.6/Mpc。
It is known than the inclusion of spatial curvature can modify the evolution of matter perturbations and affect the Large Scale Structure (LSS) formation. We quantify the effects of the non-zero space curvature in terms of LSS formation for a cosmological model with a running vacuum energy density and a warm dark matter component. The evolution of density perturbations and the modified shape of its power spectrum are constructed and analyzed.
We investigate the interaction between scalar fields and radiation in the framework of warm inflationary models by using the irreversible thermodynamics of open systems with matter creation/annihilation. We consider the scalar fields and radiation as an interacting two component cosmological fluid in a homogeneous, spatially flat and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe. The thermodynamics of open systems as applied together with the gravitational field equations to the two component cosmological fluid leads to a generalization of the elementary scalar field-radiation interactio…
We investigate the creation of dark matter particles as a result of the decay of the scalar field in the framework of warm inflationary models, by using the irreversible thermodynamics of open systems with matter creation/annihilation. We consider the scalar fields, radiation and dark matter as an interacting three component cosmological fluid in a homogeneous and isotropic Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) Universe, in the presence of the curvature terms. The thermodynamics of open systems as applied together with the gravitational field equations to the three component cosmological …
In this paper, we investigate the cosmological viability of a double scalar field model motivated by warm inflation. To this end, we first set up the theoretical framework in which dark energy, dark matter and inflation are accounted for in a triple unification scheme. We then compute the overall dynamics of the model, analyzing the physical role of coupling parameters. Focussing on the late-time evolution, we test the model against current data. Specifically, using the low-redshift Pantheon Supernovae Ia and Hubble cosmic chronometers measurements, we perform a Bayesian analysis through the M…
The warm dark matter (WDM) can be described by simple and useful model called reduced relativistic gas (RRG). In this work, it is analytically constructed the scalar field actions minimally and non-minimally coupled to gravity, which are equivalent to RRG in the sense they produce the same cosmological solutions for the conformal factor of the metric. In particular, we construct the scalar theory which corresponds to the model of ultra-relativistic ideal gas of spinless particles possessing conformal symmetry. Finally, the possibility of supplementing our scalar field model with a dynamical da…
Warm inflation, its different particle physics model implementations and the implications of dissipative particle production for its cosmology are reviewed. First, we briefly present the background dynamics of warm inflation and contrast it with the cold inflation picture. An exposition of the space of parameters for different well-motivated potentials, which are ruled out, or severely constrained in the cold inflation scenario, but not necessarily in warm inflation, is provided. Next, the quantum field theory aspects in realizing explicit microscopic models for warm inflation are given. This …
In this work we present a summary of recent studies on the effects of elastic self interactions in the evolution of Warm Dark Matter models (WDM), focusing on structure formation and the evolution of cosmological perturbations. We pay special attention to a particular class of sterile neutrino WDM known as $ν$MSM and provide examples for the case of vector field self interactions. We calculate the effects of assuming self interacting dark matter in X-Ray astrophysical observations, in the formation of fermionic DM halos in (quasi) equilibrium states and in the evolution of DM perturbations in …
If a fraction of the dark matter is unstable and decays into dark radiation at around the time of matter-radiation equality, it could impact the expansion history of the universe in a way that helps to ameliorate the long-standing tension between the locally measured value of the Hubble constant and the value inferred from measurements of the cosmic microwave background and baryon acoustic oscillations (assuming standard $Λ$CDM cosmology). If this component of decaying dark matter is cold, however, it will modify the evolution of the gravitational potentials, leading to inconsistencies with th…
We study the evolution of cosmological perturbations in dark-matter models with elastic and velocity-independent self interactions. Such interactions are imprinted in the matter-power spectrum as dark acoustic oscillations, which can be experimentally explored to determine the strength of the self scatterings. Models with self interactions have similarities to warm dark matter, as they lead to suppression of power on small scales when the dark-matter velocity dispersion is sizable. Nonetheless, both the physical origin and the extent of the suppression differ for self-interacting dark matter f…
We present the Sejong Suite, an extensive collection of state-of-the-art high-resolution cosmological hydrodynamical simulations spanning a variety of cosmological and astrophysical parameters, primarily developed for modeling the Lyman-Alpha (LyA) forest. The suite is organized into three main categories (Grid Suite, Supporting Suite, and Systematics Suite), addressing different science targets. Adopting a particle-based implementation, we follow the evolution of gas, dark matter (cold and warm), massive neutrinos, and dark radiation, and consider several combinations of box sizes and number …
Lithium depletion and enrichment in the cosmos is not yet well understood. To help tighten constraints on stellar and Galactic evolution models, we present the largest high-resolution analysis of Li abundances A(Li) to date, with results for over 100 000 GALAH field stars spanning effective temperatures $5900\,\mathrm{K} \lesssim \rm{T_{eff}} \lesssim7000\,\mathrm{K}$ and metallicities $-3 \lesssim \rm[Fe/H] \lesssim +0.5$. We separated these stars into two groups, on the warm and cool side of the so-called Li-dip, a localised region of the Kiel diagram wherein lithium is severely depleted. We…
We consider the cosmological relaxation solution to the electroweak hierarchy problem using the fermion production as a dominant friction force. In our approach, neither super-Planckian field excursions nor a large number of e-folds arise, and scanning over thermal Higgs mass squared is avoided. The produced fermions from the relaxion source through the derivative coupling are SM-singlets, what we call dark fermions, and they can serve as the keV scale warm dark matter candidates.
We consider a cosmological scenario where a relativistic particle and a stable massive particle are simultaneously produced from the decay of a late-decaying particle after Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis but before matter-radiation equality. The relativistic and massive particles behave as dark radiation and warm dark matter, respectively. Due to a common origin, the warmness and abundances are closely related. We refer to the models that lead to such a scenario as Common Origin of Warm and Relativistic Decay Products (COWaRD). We show that COWaRD predicts a correlation between the amount of dark ra…
We establish a new self-consistent model of coupling between the cosmic dark energy and dark matter in the framework of the rheological approach, which is based on the representation of the equations of state in terms of integral operators of the Volterra-type. We elaborate the so-called four-kernel model, in the framework of which both the dark energy and dark matter pressures are presented by two integrals containing the energy densities of the dark energy and dark matter. For the Volterra operators, the kernels of which are associated with the effects of fading memory, the corresponding iso…
We examine the cosmology of warm dark matter (WDM), both stable and decaying, from the point of view of structure formation. We compare the matter power spectrum associated to WDM masses of 1.5 keV and 0.158 keV, with that expected for the stable cold dark matter $Λ$CDM$\equiv$SCDM paradigm, taken as our reference model. We scrutinize the effects associated to the warm nature of dark matter, as well as the fact that it decays. The decaying warm dark matter (DWDM) scenario is well-motivated, emerging in a broad class of particle physics theories where neutrino masses arise from the spontaneous …
In this paper we investigate how the Reionization process is affected by early galaxy formation in different cosmological scenarios. We use a semi-analytic model with suppressed initial power spectra to obtain the UV Luminosity Function in thermal Warm Dark Matter and sterile neutrino cosmologies. We retrace the ionization history of intergalactic medium with hot stellar emission only, exploiting fixed and variable photons escape fraction models ($f_{esc}$). For each cosmology, we find an upper limit to fixed $f_{esc}$, which guarantees the completion of the process at $z<6.7$. The analysis is…
Rastall gravity is a modified gravity proposal that incorporates a non-conserved energy momentum tensor (EMT). We study the equivalence between Rastall gravity and general relativity, analyzing its consequences for an EMT of dark matter and dark energy. We find that the translation between the Rastall and Einstein interpretations modifies the equation of state for each component. For instance, cold dark matter can translate into warm dark matter. If the EMT components are allowed to interact, the translation also changes the type of interaction between the components.
In this paper, we present a systematic investigation on simple inverse seesaw models for neutrino masses and flavor mixing based on the modular $S^{}_4$ symmetry. Two right-handed neutrinos and three extra fermion singlets are introduced to account for light neutrino masses through the inverse seesaw mechanism, and to provide a keV-mass sterile neutrino as the candidate for warm dark matter in our Universe. Considering all possible modular forms with weights no larger than four, we obtain twelve models, among which we find one is in excellent agreement with the observed lepton mass spectra and…
Effects of Mass Varying Neutrinos on Cosmological Parameters as determined from the Cosmic Microwave Background
Evidence has continued to accumulate over the last few decades as to the existence and nature of dark matter. Depending on the particle candidate, the dark matter can exhibit one of several cosmologically defined models: hot dark matter, cold dark matter, warm dark matter, self-interacting dark matter, and fuzzy dark matter. In this paper I review the relevance and status of these models, whether it is possible for more than one of these models to each constitute some fraction of the dark matter, and discuss the prospects for determining if any of these models can successfully describe the pro…
The CGF cosmology is a complete theory of cosmology from the electroweak transition onward. It is semi-classical. At leading order the only matter is dark matter -- a cosmological SU(2)-weak gauge field (the CGF). Ordinary matter is a subleading correction from fluctuations around the classical state. The CGF is periodic in imaginary time. It acts as thermal bath for the fluctuations of the Standard Model fields. Here, the initial thermal state of the SU(2) gauge field fluctuations is constructed and shown to be thermodynamically stable. This is a warm-up for (1) constructing the initial therm…
We provide a general framework for self-interacting warm dark matter (WDM) in cosmological perturbations, by deriving from first principles a Boltzmann hierarchy which retains certain independence from a particular interaction Lagrangian. We consider elastic interactions among the massive particles, and obtain a hierarchy which is more general than the ones usually obtained for non-relativistic (as for cold DM) or for ultra-relativistic (as for neutrinos) approximations. The more general momentum-dependent kernel integrals in the Boltzmann collision terms, are explicitly calculated for differe…
