In this paper, the generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics and entropy is revisited in the context of cosmological models in Gauss-Bonnet gravity with the boundary of the universe is assumed to be enclosed by the dynamical apparent horizon. The model is best fitted with the observational data for distance modulus. The best fitted geometric and thermodynamic parameters such as equation of state parameter, deceleration parameter and entropy are derived. To link between thermodynamic and geometric parameters, the "entropy rate of change multiplied by the temperature" as a model independent thermodynamic state parameter is also derived. The results show that the model is in good agreement with the observational analysis.
In the present work we study (i) charged black hole in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) theory, known as Einstein-Maxwell-Gauss-Bonnet (EMGB) black hole and (ii) black hole in EGB gravity with Yang-Mills field. The thermodynamic geometry of these two black hole solutions has been investigated, using the modified entropy in Gauss-Bonnet theory.
This paper deals with five-dimensional black hole solutions in (a) Einstein-Yang-Mills-Gauss-Bonnet theory and (b)Einstein-Maxwell-Gauss-Bonnet theory with a cosmological constant for spherically symmetric space time. The geometry of the black hole thermodynamics has been studied for both the black holes.
We consider the Gauss-Bonnet corrected Bardeen black hole solution in 4-D AdS space-time. The solution is obtained by the limiting procedure adopted by Glavan and Lin in 4-D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. The general form of first law of black hole thermodynamics is utilized to calculate various thermodynamics variables. The solution exhibit P-v criticality and belong to the universality class of van-der Waals fluid. The effect of Gauss-Bonnet coupling is investigated on critical parameters and inversion temperature.
Recently, the non-trivial solutions for 4-dimensional black holes of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity had been discovered. In this paper, considering a charged particle entering into a 4-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet-Maxwell black hole, we calculate the black hole thermodynamic properties by using the Hamilton-Jacobi equation. In the normal phase space, the cosmological constant and Gauss-Bonnet parameter are fixed, the black hole satisfies the first and second laws of thermodynamics and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) is valid. On the other hand, in the case of extended phase space, the …
We study the thermodynamic properties of black hole horizons in Einstein Gauss Bonnet gravity. We derive the thermodynamic products of characteristic parameters to mark which are global. We further interpret the stability of the black holes by computing the specific heat for both horizons. Stable and unstable phases of horizons are pointed out. The phase transitions with respect to the charge in nature of specific heat are also observed. All these calculation might be helpful to understand the microscopic nature of such black holes.
We studied the thermodynamics of the black holes with Gauss-Bonnet correction term in $3+1-$ dimensional AdS spacetime. It is known that the term has no effect on the equation of motion, however, it modifies the entropy formula of Wald as it has an effect of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter term. We studied charged black holes, namely, Reissner-Nordström and Born-Infeld under this regime. We encountered divergences in heat capacity. After eliminating the possibility of first order phase transition, we applied two well trusted methods from standard thermodynamics, namely, Ehrenfest scheme and Ruppein…
In this paper, we will generalize the Gauss-Bonnet gravity to an energy dependent Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity, which we shall call as the Gauss-Bonnet gravity's rainbow. We will also couple this theory to a Maxwell's theory. We will analyze black hole solutions in this energy dependent Gauss-Bonnet gravity's rainbow. We will calculate the modifications to the thermodynamics of black holes in the Gauss-Bonnet's gravity's rainbow. We will demonstrate that even though the thermodynamics of the black holes get modified in the Gauss-Bonnet gravity's rainbow, the first law of thermodynamics still…
We investigate the thermodynamics of Gauss-Bonnet black holes in asymptotically de Sitter spacetimes embedded in an isothermal cavity, via a Euclidean action approach. We consider both charged and uncharged black holes, working in the extended phase space where the cosmological constant is treated as a thermodynamic pressure. We examine the phase structure of these black holes through their free energy. In the uncharged case, we find both Hawking-Page and small-to-large black hole phase transitions, whose character depends on the sign of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling. In the charged case, we demon…
We investigate the validity of generalized second law of thermodynamics of a physical system comprising of newly proposed dark energy model called Ricci Gauss-Bonnet and cold dark matter enveloped by apparent horizon and event horizon in flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. For this purpose, Bekenstein entropy, Renyi, logarithmic and power law entropic corrections are used. It is found that this law exhibits the validity on both apparent and event horizons except for the case of logarithmic entropic correction at apparent horizon. Also, we check the thermodynamical equilibrium condi…
Motivated by the string corrections on the gravity and electrodynamics sides, we consider a quadratic Maxwell invariant term as a correction of the Maxwell Lagrangian to obtain exact solutions of higher dimensional topological black holes in Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We first investigate the asymptotically flat solutions and obtain conserved and thermodynamic quantities which satisfy the first law of thermodynamics. We also analyze thermodynamic stability of the solutions by calculating the heat capacity and the Hessian matrix. Then, we focus on horizon-flat solutions with adS asymptote and produc…
Gauss-Bonnet gravity provides one of the most promising frameworks to study curvature corrections to the Einstein action in supersymmetric string theories, while avoiding ghosts and keeping second order field equations. Although Schwarzschild-type solutions for Gauss-Bonnet black holes have been known for long, the Kerr-Gauss-Bonnet metric is missing. In this paper, a five dimensional Gauss-Bonnet approximation is analytically derived for spinning black holes and the related thermodynamical properties are briefly outlined.
In this paper we investigate the strong gravitational lensing with Gauss-Bonnet gravity. By considering the logarithmic term for deflection angle, we obtain the deflection angle $\hatα$ and corresponding parameters $\bar{a}$ and $\bar{b}$. Finally, by using the relations between the observables and lensing parameters, we estimate the observables such as, $θ_{\infty}$, $s$ and $r_m$, for the relativistic images in the Gauss-Bonnet background.
We investigate the Gauss-Bonnet black hole in five dimensional anti-de Sitter spacetimes (GBAdS). We analyze all thermodynamic quantities of the GBAdS, which is characterized by the Gauss-Bonnet coupling $c$ and mass $M$, comparing with those of the Born-Infeld-AdS (BIAdS), Reissner-Norström-AdS black holes (RNAdS), Schwarzschild-AdS (SAdS), and BTZ black holes. For $c<0$ we cannot obtain the black hole with positively definite thermodynamic quantities of mass, temperature, and entropy because the entropy does not satisfy the area-law. On the other hand, for $c>0$, we find the BIAdS-like black…
We write down an anisotropic solution for a flat 5+1 dimensional Universe in Gauss-Bonnet gravity. In the model under investigation this solution replaces the generalized Kasner solution near a cosmological singularity.
The time delay between two relativistic images in the strong gravitational lensing governed by Gauss-Bonnet gravity is studied. We derive and calculate the expression of time delay due to the Gauss-Bonnet coupling. It is shown that the time delay for two images with larger space each other is longer. We also find that the ratio of Gauss-Bonnet coefficient and the mass of gravitational source changes in the region like $\fracα{M}\in[0,2)$. The time delay is divergent with $\fracα{M}\longrightarrow 2$.
We study the massless scalar, Dirac and electro-magnetic fields propagating on a 4D-brane, which is embedded in higher dimensional Gauss-Bonnet space-time. We calculate, in time-domain, the fundamental quasi-normal modes of a spherically symmetric black hole for such fields. We observe also a universal behavior, independent on a field and value of the Gauss-Bonnet parameter, at asymptotically late time.
The influence of non-minimal coupling of a scalar field and the Gauss-Bonnet term on the inflationary stage of evolution of the universe is investigated in this paper. The main cosmological effects of such a coupling were considered. The deviations between Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet inflation and standard one based on Einstein gravity were determined. The corrections of a weak GB coupling preserving the type of the scalar field potential to standard inflationary models is considered as well.
We have investigated tidal forces and geodesic deviation motion in the 4D-Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet spacetime. Our results show that tidal force and geodesic deviation motion depend sharply on the sign of Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant. Comparing with Schwarzschild spacetime, the strength of tidal force becomes stronger for the negative Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant, but is weaker for the positive one. Moreover, tidal force behaves like those in the Schwarzschild spacetime as the coupling constant is negative, and like those in Reissner-Nordström black hole as the constant is positive. We also pr…
We consider black hole in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet(EGB) gravity in a dynamical setup and also the stationary black hole in recently discovered\cite{Glavan} $4$-dimensional novel Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. For dynamical EGB black hole in completely local settings we calculate the temperature associated with the horizon. For the stationary black hole in $4$-dimensional novel EGB theory we explore the thermodynamic properties including calculation of temperature and entropy.
By adopting the 5D version of the Wu-Yang Ansatz we present in closed form a black hole solution in the Einstein-Yang-Mills-Gauss-Bonnet (EYMGB) theory. In the EYM limit, we recover the 5D black hole solution already known.
We investigate the absorption cross section of planar scalar massless waves impinging on spherically symmetric black holes which are solutions of the novel 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity. Besides the mass of the black hole, the solution depends also on the Gauss-Bonnet constant coupling. Using the partial waves approach, we show that the absorption cross section depends on the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant. Our numerical results present excellent agreement with the low- and high- frequency approximations, including the so-called sinc approximation.
We study the phase space of the spherically symmetric solutions of Einstein Gauss-Bonnet system nonminimally coupled to a scalar field and show that in four dimensions the only regular black hole solutions are asymptotically flat
In this paper, we first use the optical metrics of black-bounce traversable wormholes to calculate the Gaussian curvature. Then we use the Gauss-Bonnet theorem to obtain the weak deflection angle of light from the black-bounce traversable wormholes. Then we investigate the effect of dark matter medium on weak deflection angle using the Gauss-Bonnet theorem. We show how weak deflection angle of wormhole is affected by the bounce parameter $a$. Using the Gauss-bonnet theorem for calculating weak deflection angle shows us that light bending can be thought as a global and topological effect.
We study the cosmological model based on Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with non-minimal coupling of a scalar field to a Gauss-Bonnet term in 4D Friedmann universe. We show how constructing the exact solutions by the method based on a confrontation of the Hubble parameter in the model under consideration with that in a standard scalar field inflationary cosmology.
We study the phase space of the spherically symmetric solutions of the system obtained from the dimensional reduction of the six-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet action with a cosmological constant. We show that all the physical solutions have anti-de Sitter asymptotic behavior.
We study the phase space of the spherically symmetric solutions of Einstein-Maxwell-Gauss-Bonnet system nonminimally coupled to a scalar field and prove the existence of solutions with unusual asymptotics in addition to asymptotically flat ones. We also find new dyonic solutions of dilatonic Einstein-Maxwell theory.
A Vaidya-based model of a radiating black-hole is studied in a 5-dimensional Einstein gravity with Gauss-Bonnet contribution of quadratic curvature terms. The structure and locations of the apparent and event horizons of the radiating black hole are determined.
Modified gravity theories are of great interest in both observational and theoretical studies. In this article we study the correlation between the null geodesics in the background of a four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell-Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole, a modification of Einstein gravity, and it's thermodynamic phase transition. We study the phase structure of the black hole, using the coexistence and spinodal curves, to understand the phase transition in a extended phase space. The imprints of this phase transition features are observed in the behaviour of photon orbit radius and minimum impact pa…
The influence of the Maxwell field on a static, asymptotically flat and spherically-symmetric Gauss-Bonnet black hole is considered. Numerical computations suggest that if the charge increases beyond a critical value, the inner determinant singularity is replaced by an inner singular horizon.
We study the asymptotic behavior of the spherically symmetric solutions of the system obtained from the dimensional reduction of the six-dimensional Einstein- Gauss-Bonnet action. We show that in general the scalar field that parametrizes the size of the internal space is not trivial, but nevertheless the solutions depend on a single parameter. In analogy with other models containing Gauss-Bonnet terms, naked singularities are avoided if a minimal radius for the horizon is assumed.
The purpose of this Comment is to point out that there are conceptual and mathematical flaws in the analysis in "Light deflection by Damour-Solodukhin wormholes and Gauss-Bonnet theorem, Phys. Rev. D 98, 044033 (2018) by Ali Övgün".
The objective of this paper is to analyze the weak deflection angle of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in the presence of plasma medium. To attain our results, we implement the Gibbons and Werner approach and use the Gauss-Bonnet theorem to Einstein gravity to acquire the resulting deflection angle of photon's ray in the weak field limit. Moreover, we illustrate the behavior of plasma medium and non-plasma mediums on the deflection of photon's ray in the framework of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. Similarly, we observe the graphical influences of deflection angle on Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity…
This paper gives a new, simple and concise derivation of brane actions and brane dynamics in general relativity and in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We present a unified treatment, applicable to timelike surface layers and spacelike transition layers, and including consideration of the more difficult lightlike case.
We study the phase space of the spherically symmetric solutions of the system obtained from the dimensional reduction of the six-dimensional Einstein-Gauss- Bonnet action. We show the existence of solutions with nonflat asymptotic behavior.
A self-interacting SU(2)-doublet of complex scalar fields, minimally coupled to Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity is considered in five space-time dimensions. The classical equations admit two families of solitons corresponding to spinning and non-spinning bosons stars. The generic solutions are constructed numerically and agree with exact results that are available in special limits of the parameters. The pattern of the boson stars is shown to be qualitatively affected by the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant.
The second law and the generalized second law of thermodynamics in cosmology in the framework of the modified Gauss-Bonnet theory of gravity are investigated. The conditions upon which these laws hold are derived and discussed.
By using the scattering of a scalar field, we discuss the thermodynamics and overcharging problem in a 4D Gauss-Bonnet AdS black hole in both the normal phase space and extended phase space. In the normal phase space, where the cosmological constant and Gauss-Bonnet parameter are fixed, the first law and the second law of thermodynamics are valid. In addiction, the black hole cannot be overcharged and the weak cosmic censorship conjecture is valid. In the extended phase space, where the cosmological constant and Gauss-Bonnet parameter are treated as the thermodynamic variables, the first law i…
By using a new approach, we demonstrate analytic expressions for slowly rotating Gauss-Bonnet charged black holes with negative cosmological constant. Up to the linear order of the rotating parameter a, the mass, Hawking temperature and entropy of the charged black holes get no corrections from rotation.
We derive an exact black hole solution for the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity with Yang-Mills field in $4D$ AdS spacetime and investigate its thermodynamic properties to calculate exact expressions for the black hole mass, temperature, entropy and heat capacity. The thermodynamic quantities get modification in the presence of Yang-Mills field, however, entropy remains unaffected by the Yang-Mills charge. The solution exhibits $P-v$ criticality and belongs to the universality class of Van der Waals fluid. We study the effect of Gauss-Bonnet coupling and Yang-Mills charge on the critical behaviou…
We disclose the deep connection between the thermodynamics and gravity in a general braneworld model with curvature correction terms on the brane and in the bulk, respectively. We show that the Friedmann equations on the 3-brane embedded in the 5D spacetime with curvature correction terms can be written directly in the form of the first law of thermodynamics on the apparent horizon. Using the first law, we extract the entropy expression of the apparent horizon on the brane, which is useful in studying the thermodynamical properties of the black hole horizon on the brane in Gauss-Bonnet gravity…
We construct solutions of a model which includes the Gauss-Bonnet and Born-Infeld terms for various horizon topologies $(k=0, \pm 1)$, and then the mass, temperature, entropy and heat capacity of black holes are computed. For the sake of simplicity, we perform the stability analysis of five dimensional topological black holes in AdS space.
Considering a canonical ensemble, in which the temperature and the charge on a wall of the cavity are fixed, we investigate the thermodynamics of a D-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet black hole in a finite spherical cavity. Moreover, it shows that the first law of thermodynamics is still satisfied. We then discuss the phase structure and transition in both five and six dimensions. Specifically, we show that there always exist two regions in the parameter space. In one region, the system possesses one single phase. However in the other region, there could coexist three phases and a van der Waals-like p…
Employing two classes of nonlinear electrodynamics, we obtain topological black hole solutions of Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We investigate geometric properties of the solutions and find that there is an intrinsic singularity at the origin. We investigate the thermodynamic properties of the asymptotically flat black holes and also asymptotically adS solutions. Using suitable local transformation, we generalize static horizon-flat solutions to rotating ones. We discuss their conserved and thermodynamic quantities as well as the first law of thermodynamics. Finally, we calculate the heat capacity of …
By looking at the Lovelock theorem one can infer that the gravity model given by \cite{GL} could not applicable for all type of 4D Einstein Gauss Bonnet (GB) curved spacetimes. Because in 4D space time the Gauss-Bonnet invariant is a total derivative, and hence it does not contribute to the gravitational dynamics. Hence, authors in the work \cite{AL} presented an alternative consistent EGB gravity model instead of \cite{GL} by applying break of diffeomorphism property. In this work we use it to produce a dS/AdS black hole metric and then investigate its thermodynamic behavior in presence of cl…
We study holographic superconductors in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity. We consider two particular backgrounds: a $d$-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet-AdS black hole and a Gauss-Bonnet-AdS soliton. We discuss in detail the effects that the mass of the scalar field, the Gauss-Bonnet coupling and the dimensionality of the AdS space have on the condensation formation and conductivity. We also study the ratio $ω_g/T_c $ for various masses of the scalar field and Gauss-Bonnet couplings.
In this paper, we investigate the four-dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet black hole. The thermodynamic variables and equations of state of black holes are obtained in terms of a new parameterization. We discuss a formulation of the van der Waals equation by studying the effects of the temperature on P-V isotherms. We show the influence of the Cauchy horizon on the thermodynamic parameters. We prove by different methods, that the black hole entropy obey area law (plus logarithmic term that depends on the Gauss-Bonnet coupling α). We propose a physical meaning for the logarithmic correction to t…
In this paper, we study the thermodynamic geometry of charged Gauss-Bonnet black holes (and Reissner-Nordström black holes, for the sake of comparison) in AdS: in both $(T,V)$- and $(S,P)$-planes. The thermodynamic phase space is known to have an underlying contact and metric structure; Ruppeiner geometry then naturally arises in this framework. Sign of Ruppeiner curvature can be used to probe the nature of interactions between the black hole microstructures. It is found that there are both attraction and repulsion dominated regions which are in general determined by the electric charge, Gauss…
In this paper, we investigate a class of $5$-dimensional black holes in the presence of Gauss-Bonnet gravity with dyonic charges. At first step, thermodynamical quantities of the black holes and their behaviors are explored for different limits. Thermal stability and the possibility of the van der Waals like phase transition are addressed and the effects of different parameters on them are investigated. The second part is devoted to simulation of the trajectory of particles around these black holes and investigation of the angular frequency of particles' motion. The main goal is understanding …
We propose a boundary term to the Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet action for gravity, which is constructed as the dimensional continuation of the Chern-Weil theorem, and such that the extremization of the full action yields the equations of motion when Dirichlet boundary conditions are imposed. When translated into tensorial language, this boundary term is the generalization to this theory of the Katz boundary term and vector for general relativity. The construction allows to deal with a general background and includes the Gibbons-Hawking-Myers boundary term as a special case, when the background is tak…
Instead of the work \cite{1} which in according to the Lovelock theorem it could not applicable for all types of 4D curved spacetimes of Einstein Gauss Bonnet (EGB) gravity, authors of the work \cite{2} applied break of diffeomorphism property to present a consistent EGB gravity theory. In this work we use the latter model by adding a nonlinear electromagnetic field lagrangian density to study affects of GB coupling constant into the thermodynamic phase transition and Joule Thomson (JT) adiabatic expansion of a 4D $dS/AdS$ GB Bardeen black hole.
