Recent results using B_s -> J/Psi phi decays for measuring the CP violating phase, phi_s, and the decay width difference for the two mass eigenstates, Delta Gamma_s, are presented from the CDF and D0 experiments at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.
We report the first observation of Bs to Psi(2S) phi signals using 360 pb^-1 of CDF Run II data sample, where Psi(2S) decays into mu+mu- and J/psi pi+pi- modes with phi decays to K+K-. We have measured the relative branching ratio of Br(Bs to Psi(2S)phi)/Br(Bs to J/psi phi) using J/psi, Psi(2S) to mu+mu- decay mode. We obtain Br(Bs to Psi(2S)phi)/Br(Bs to J/psi phi) = 0.52 +- 0.13 (stat.) +- 0.04 (syst.) +- 0.06 (BR).
Based on 5.8x10^7 J/psi events detected in BESII, the branching fractions of J/psi--> phi eta and phi eta^prime are measured for different eta and eta^prime decay modes. The results are significantly higher than previous measurements. An upper limit on B(J/psi--> phi pi^0) is also obtained.
We present recent results on heavy flavour production at Tevatron Run II for typically ~1/fb of analysed proton-antiproton data at a c.m. energy of 1.96 TeV. This includes results on single and correlated open charm and bottom cross sections, charm pair production kinematics, J/psi, psi(2S) and chi cross sections and polarisation measurements in J/psi, psi(2S), Upsilon(1S), and Upsilon(2S).
We present a measurement of the direct CP-violating charge asymmetry in B^+/- mesons decaying to J/psi K^+/- and J/psi pi^+/- where J/psi decays to mu^+ mu^-, using the full Run II data set of 10.4 fb^-1 of proton-antiproton collisions collected using the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A difference in the yield of B^- and B^+ mesons in these decays is found by fitting to the difference between their reconstructed invariant mass distributions resulting in asymmetries of ajpk =[0.59 +/- 0.37]%, which is the most precise measurement to date, and ajppi= [-4.2 +/- 4.5]%. Both measur…
A peaking structure in the J/psi phi mass spectrum near threshold is observed in B(+/-) to J/psi phi K(+/-) decays, produced in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV collected with the CMS detector at the LHC. The data sample, selected on the basis of the dimuon decay mode of the J/psi, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 5.2 inverse femtobarns. Fitting the structure to an S-wave relativistic Breit-Wigner lineshape above a three-body phase-space nonresonant component gives a signal statistical significance exceeding five standard deviations. The fitted mass and width values are m = 4148.0 +-…
We present a measurement of the relative branching fraction, R_{f_{0}/phi}, of B_{s}^{0} to J/ψf_{0}(980), with f_{0}(980) to pi^+ pi^-, to the process B_{s}^{0} to J/psi phi, with phi to K^+K^-. The J/psi f_{0}(980) final state corresponds to a CP-odd eigenstate of B_{s}^{0} that could be of interest in future studies of CP violation. Using approximately 8fb^-1 of data recorded with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider, we find R_{f_{0}/phi} = 0.275 +- 0.041(stat) +- 0.061(syst).
The CP asymmetry predicted by the Standard Model in the decay modes Bs;d -> J/psi eta and Bs -> J/psi phi is very small, and the observation of a sizeable e ect would be a clear indication of new physics beyond the Standard Model. Contrary to the final state J/psi phi, the former final state is a CP eigenstate, and therefore complex angular distribution analyses are not necessary for the asymmetry measurement. In this paper, the approaches for the study of these two decay channels are presented.
A measurement of the ratio of the branching fractions of the B[0,s] meson to J/psi f0(980) and to J/psi phi(1020) is presented. The J/psi, f0(980), and phi(1020) are observed through their decays to mu+ mu-, pi+ pi-, and K+ K-, respectively. The f0 is identified by requiring abs( M[pi+,pi-] - 974 MeV ) < 50 MeV. The analysis is based on a data sample of pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV, collected by the CMS experiment, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.3 inverse femtobarns. The measured ratio is B(B[0,s] to J/psi f0(980)) B(f0 to pi+ pi-) / B(B[0,s] to J/psi phi(1…
We report a study of the B meson decays, B+ -> J/psi phi K+, B0 -> J/psi phi K0S, B0 -> J/psi phi, B0 -> J/psi eta and B0 -> J/psi eta' using 56 million BBbar events collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+ e- asymmetric-energy storage ring. We measure the branching fractions B(B+ -> J/psi phi K+) = (4.4 +- 1.4(stat) +- 0.5(syst)) * 10-5 and B(B0 -> J/psi phi K0S) = (5.1 +- 1.9(stat) +- 0.5(syst)) * 10^-5, and set upper limits at 90% confidence level for the branching fractions B(B0 -> J/psi phi) < 9.2 * 10^-6, B(B0 -> J/psi eta)< 2.7 * 10^-5, and B(B0 -> J/psi…
I report results on the X(3872) from the Tevatron. Mass and other properties have been studied, with a focus on new results on the dipion mass spectrum in X -> J/PsiPi^+Pi^- decays. Dipions favor interpreting the decay as J/PsiRho, implying even C-parity for the X. Modeling uncertainties do not allow distinguishing between S- and P-wave decays of the J/PsiRho mode. Effects of Rho-Omega interference in X decay are also introduced.
A full angular analysis has been performed for the pseudo-scalar to vector-vector decays, B0 --> J/psi K* and B_s --> J/psi phi, to determine the amplitudes for decays with parity-even longitudinal and transverse polarization and parity-odd transverse polarization. The measurements are based on 190 B0 candidates and 40 B_s candidates collected from a data set corresponding to 89 inverse pb of pbarp collisions at root(s) = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. In both decays the decay amplitude for longitudinal polarization dominates and the parity-odd amplitude is found to be small.
We present the observation of doubly-produced $J/ψ$ mesons with the D0 detector at Fermilab in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}=1.96$ TeV. The production cross section for both singly and doubly-produced $J/ψ$ mesons is measured using a sample with an integrated luminosity of 8.1fb$^{-1}$. For the first time, the double $J/ψ$ production cross section is separated into contributions due to single and double parton scatterings. Using these measurements, we determine the effective cross section $σ_{eff}$, a parameter characterizing an effective spatial area of the parton-parton interactions and…
We report preliminary measurements of the branching fractions for B+ -> J/psi phi K+, B0 -> J/psi phi K0S, B0 -> J/psi phi, B0 -> J/psi eta and B -> J/psi eta' using 56 million BBbar events collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. We measure branching fractions of B(B+ -> J/psi phi K+)=(4.4+-1.4(stat)+-0.7(syst))*10^-5 and B(B0 -> J/psi phi K0S)=(5.1+-1.9(stat)+-0.9(syst))*10^-5, and set upper limits at 90% C.L. for branching fractions, B(B -> J/ψphi)< 0.95*10^-5, B(B -> J/ψeta)< 2.7*10^-5, and B(B -> J/ψeta')< 6.4*10^-5.
We briefly discuss measurements of CP violation in Bs --> J/psi phi decay. Both the phenomenology of Bs mixing and the importance of the measurement to searches for new physics, as well as technical details and issues with the analysis are included. While current results are consistent with the standard model, even large contributions from new physics cannot be excluded.
We report on a study of the relative rates of B meson decays into psi(2S) and J/psi mesons using 1.3 fb^-1 of pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV recorded by the D0 detector operating at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We observe the channels B^0_s -> psi(2S)phi, B^0_s -> J/psi phi, B^+/- -> psi(2S) K^+/-, and B^+/- -> J/psi K^+/- and we measure the relative branching fractions for these channels to be B(B^0_s -> psi(2S)phi)/B(B^0_s -> J/psi phi) = 0.55 +/- 0.11 (stat) +/- 0.07 (syst) +/- 0.06 (B), B(B^+/- -> psi(2S) K^+/-)/B(B^+/- -> J/psi K^+/-) = 0.65 +/- 0.04 (stat) +/- 0.03 (syst) +/-…
We investigate the decay B^+ -> J/psi phi K^+ in a search for the X(4140) state, a narrow threshold resonance in the J/psi phi system. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 10.4 fb^{-1} of ppbar collisions at sqrt s =1.96 TeV collected by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. We observe a mass peak with a statistical significance of 3.1 standard deviations and measure its invariant mass to be M=4159.0 +-.3 (stat) +- 6.6 (syst) MeV and its width to be Gamma= 19.9+-12.6 (stat)}^{+1.0}_{-8.0} (syst) MeV. Identifying this mass peak as the X(4140), we measure, fo…
The B^0_s differential production cross section is measured as functions of the transverse momentum and rapidity in pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV, using the J/Psi phi decay, and compared with predictions based on perturbative QCD calculations at next-to-leading order. The data sample, collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 40 inverse picobarns. The B^0_s is reconstructed from the decays J/Psi to an oppositely charged muon pair and phi to K+ K-. The integrated B^0_s cross section times B^0_s to J/Psi phi branching fraction in the range 8 < pt(B…
Recent measurements of B hadron properties carried out in sqrt(s)=1.96 TeV p/p-bar collisions at the Tevatron are reviewed. Included are measurements of the Bc+ meson lifetime, using J/psi+l+X final states, and the mass, using J/psi+pi final states, a flavor specific measurement of the Bs0 lifetime in Ds+pi+X decays, simultaneous measurements of the Bs0 lifetime and lifetime difference in J/psi+phi decays, the first direct evidence and mass measurements of the Xi_b- baryon, and measurements of the polarization of 1S charmonium. For all measurements, charge conjugate modes are included.
We present a complete evaluation for $\jpsi(\psip)$ prompt production at the Tevatron and LHC at next-to-leading order in nonrelativistic QCD, including color-singlet, color-octet, and higher charmonia feeddown contributions. The short-distance coefficients of $\pj$ at next-to-leading order are found to be larger than leading order by more than an order of magnitude but with a minus sign at high transverse momentum $p_T$. Two new linear combinations of color-octet matrix elements are obtained from the CDF data, and used to predict $\jpsi$ production at the LHC, which agrees with the CMS data. …
The detection efficiency correction for the particle identification and kinematic fit selection criteria is investigated for the branching fraciton measurements in the psi(2S) decays into omega pi pi, b1 pi, omega f2(1270), omega K K, omega p pbar, phi pi pi, phi f0(980), phi K K and phi p pbar final states using 4 millions psi(2S) data sample coolected at BEPC/BES. Based on the corrected efficiencies, the preliminary results of these decay channels have been obtained, and the "12%" rule predicted by perturbative QCD theory tested.
We report measurements of branching fractions for psi(2S) decays into omega pi pi, b1 pi,omega f2(1270),omega KK, omega p pbar, phi pi pi, phi f0(980),phi KK, and an upper limit for phi p pbar final states based on a data sample of 4 X 10^6 psi(2S) events collected with the BESI detector at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. The branching fractions for b1 pi and omega f2(1270) update previous BES results, while those for other decay modes are first measurements. The ratios of psi(2S)and J/psi branching fractions are smaller than what is expected from the 12% rule by a factor of five for o…
We describe a search for psi(3770) decay to two-body non-DDbar final states in e+e- data produced by the CESR collider and analyzed with the CLEO-c detector. Vector-pseudoscalar production of Rho0Pi0, Rho+Pi-, OmegaPi0, PhiPi0, RhoEta, OmegaEta, PhiEta, RhoEtaPrime, OmegaEtaPrime, PhiEtaPrime, Kstar0 K0bar, and Kstar+K- is studied along with that of BOnePi (BOne0Pi0 and BOne+Pi-) and Pi+Pi-Pi0. A statistically significant signal is found for PhiEta, at an excess cross section of (2.4 +- 0.6) pb [Gamma_{PhiEta} (psi(3770)) =(74 +- 16)Mev], and a suggestive suppression of Pi+Pi-Pi0 and RhoPi. We…
The Collider Detector at Fermilab, CDF, observed for the first time in hadron-hadron collisions photon-photon to e+e- and mu+mu-, photon-pomeron to J/psi and psi(2S), and pomeron-pomeron to photon+photon and to chi_c. Exclusive pi+pi- production by double pomeron exchange was also measured at p+pbar CM energies 900 GeV and 1960 GeV, showing f0 and f2 resonance structures.
The decay B+ to psi(2S) phi(1020) K+ is observed for the first time using data collected from pp collisions at sqrt(s) = 8 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.6 inverse femtobarns. The branching fraction of this decay is measured, using the mode B+ to psi(2S) K+ as normalization, to be (4.0 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.6 (syst) +/- 0.2 (B)) x E-6, where the third uncertainty is from the measured branching fraction of the normalization channel.
We briefly review recent results which we have obtained in the study of J/psi-pair production at the Tevatron and the LHC. We claim that the existing data set from CMS and D0 point at a significant double-parton-scattering contribution with an effective cross section smaller than that for jet-related observables. We have also derived simple relations involving feed-down fractions from excited states which can help in disentangling the single from the double scatterings.
The CP-violating weak phase phi[s] of the Bs meson and the decay width difference Delta Gamma[s] of the Bs light and heavy mass eigenstates are measured with the CMS detector at the LHC using a data sample of Bs to J/Psi phi(1020) to mu+mu-K+K- decays. The analysed data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 19.7 inverse femtobarns collected in pp collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. A total of 49,200 reconstructed Bs decays are used to extract the values of phi[s] and Delta Gamma[s] by performing a time-dependent and flavour-tagged angular analysis of the mu+mu-K+K- final s…
The Bs meson is an interesting particle to study because a sizable mixing induced CP violation in the Bs-Bsbar system would be an indication for physics beyond the Standard Model. In this paper we present a measurement of the lifetime difference DeltaGamma between the Bs mass eigenstates and the CP violating phase in the decay Bs -> J/psi phi. In 1.7 fb^-1 of data collected with the CDF II detector at the Tevatron ppbar collider we measure DeltaGamma = 0.076 +0.059-0.063 (stat.) +- 0.006 (syst.) ps^-1, well consistent with the Standard Model prediction, and a mean Bs lifetime of ctau_s = 456 +…
We study the polarization observables of J/psi hadroproduction at next-to-leading order within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics. We complete the present knowledge of the relativistic corrections by also providing the contribution due to the intermediate ^3P_J^{[8]} color-octet states at this order, which turns out to be quite significant. Exploiting the color-octet long-distance matrix elements previously extracted through a global fit to experimental data of unpolarized J/psi production, we provide theoretical predictions in the helicity and Collins-Soper …
We present measurements of the branching ratio and of the polarization amplitudes in charmless Bs to Phi Phi decays using data corresponding to 2.9/fb of integrated luminosity, collected by the CDF experiment at the Tevatron. The branching ratio in Bs to Phi Phi decays is measured relative to the normalization mode Bs to J/Psi Phi$ to be B(Bs to Phi Phi)/B(Bs to J/Psi Phi) = [1.78 +/- 0.14 (stat) +/- 0.20 (syst)] x 10^{-2}. Using the experimental value of B(Bs to J/Psi Phi) we determine the Bs to Phi Phi branching ratio B(Bs to Phi Phi) = 2.40 +/- 0.21(stat) +/- 0.27(syst) +/- 0.82 (BR)] x 10^…
We measure the mean lifetime, tau=2/(Gamma_L+Gamma_H), and the width difference, DeltaGamma=Gamma_L-Gamma_H, of the light and heavy mass eigenstates of the B0s meson, B0sL and B0sH, in B0s -> J/psi phi decays using 1.7 fb^-1 of data collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron ppbar collider. Assuming CP conservation, a good approximation for the B0s system in the Standard Model, we obtain DeltaGamma = 0.076^+0.059_-0.063 (stat.) +- 0.006 (syst.) ps^-1 and tau = 1.52 +- 0.04 (stat.) +- 0.02 (syst.) ps, the most precise measurements to date. Our constraints on the weak phase and …
We present two recent results obtained by the CDF collaboration at the Tevatron collider. New Cabibbo suppresed B_s decay modes have been observed using 5.9 inverse fb of data: B_s-> J/psi Ks and B_s->J/psi K*0. We report also on masurement of the ratios of the branching ratios (BR) of the new modes to those of the B^0-meson to the same final states: BR(B_s->J/psi K*0)/BR(B^0->J/psi K*0) = 0.062 \pm 0.009 (stat.) \pm 0.025 (sys.) \pm 0.008 (frag.) and BR(B_s->J/psi Ks)/BR(B^0->J/psi Ks) = 0.041 \pm 0.007 (stat.) \pm 0.004 (sys.) \pm 0.005 (frag.). Then we discuss the first polarization measure…
We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in B0->phiK0, eta'K0, KsKsKs decays based on a sample of 535x10^6 BBbar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. We obtain sin2phi_1^eff=+0.64+-0.10(stat)+-0.04(syst) for B0->eta'K0, +0.50+-0.21(stat)+-0.06(syst) for B0->phiK0, and +0.30+-0.32(stat) +-0.08(syst) for B0->KsKsKs decays. We have observed CP violation in the B0->eta'K0 decay with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations. We also perform an improved measurement of CP asymmetries in B0->J/psiK0 decays and o…
We briefly review the existing psi(2S) data taken at RHIC, the Tevatron and the LHC. We systematically compare them with colour-singlet-model predictions as a function of the center-of-mass energy, of the quarkonium rapidity and of the quarkonium transverse momentum. The overall agreement is good except for large transverse momenta. This points at the existence of large NNLO corrections or points at colour-octet dominance.
B-hadrons are an ideal tool for advancing our current understanding of the flavor sector of the Standard Model (SM). The study of B-meson production and decays is one of the key physics themes at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) thanks to the large production rate and the fact that B-hadrons are relatively easy to trigger on and identify due to their long lifetime and decays to muons. This talk presents the cross section measurement for the exclusive final state Bs->J/psi phi and an evaluation of the decay branching fraction from the previously published exclusive-B production cross sections. B…
A measurement of Bs J/psi phi decay parameters, including the CP-violating weak phase phi_s and the decay width difference Delta Gamma_s is reported, using 4.9 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected in 2011 by the ATLAS detector from LHC pp collisions at a centre- of-mass energy sqrt(s) = 7 TeV. The mean decay width Gamma_s and the transversity amplitudes |A0(0)|^2 and |A||(0)|^2 are also measured. The values reported for these parameters are: phi_s = 0.22 \pm 0.41 (stat.) \pm 0.10 (syst.) rad Delta Gamma_s = 0.053 \pm 0.021 (stat.) \pm 0.010 (syst.) ps-1 Gamma_s = 0.677 \pm 0.007 (stat.) \pm…
This Letter describes the first determination of bounds on the CP-violation parameter 2*beta_s using Bs decays in which the flavor of the bottom meson at production is identified. The result is based on approximately 2,000 Bs -> J/psi phi decays reconstructed in a 1.35 fb-1 data sample collected with the CDF II detector using p-bar p collisions produced at the Fermilab Tevatron. We report confidence regions in the two-dimensional space of 2*beta_s and the decay-width difference Delta-Gamma. Assuming the standard model predictions of 2*beta_s and Delta-Gamma, the probability of a deviation as l…
Using the exclusive decay B^0_s -> J/psi (mu+mu-) phi(K+K-), we report the most precise single measurement of the B^0_s lifetime. The data sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of approximately 220 pb-1 collected with the DO detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider in 2002-2004. We reconstruct 337 signal candidates, from which we extract the B^0_s lifetime, τ(B^0_s) = 1.444 +0.098/-0.090 stat +/- 0.020 sys ps. We also report a measurement for the lifetime of the B^0 meson using the exclusive decay B^0 -> J/psi (mu+mu-)K*0(892)(K+pi-). We reconstruct 1370 signal candidates, obtaining…
Study of CP violation in the decay channel Bs->J/psi phi is essential to exploring and constraining physics beyond the Standard Model in the quark flavour sector. The experimental progress in this area of activity at the LHC and Tevatron is discussed.
In CDF we have observed several exclusive processes: 2-photon --> e+e- and --> mu+mu-, photon+pomeron --> J/psi and psi(2S), and pomeron+pomeron --> chi_c. The cross sections agree with QED, HERA photoproduction data, and theoretical estimates of gg --> chi_c with another gluon exchanged to screen the color. This observation of exclusive chi_c, together with earlier observations of exclusive dijets and exclusive 2-photon candidates, support some theoretical predictions for p+p --> p+H+p at the LHC. Exclusive dileptons offer the best means of precisely calibrating forward proton spectrometers.
Approximately taking into account the higher-order effects due to multiple-gluon initial-state radiation, we extract from the latest Tevatron data of prompt J/psi hadroproduction the leading colour-octet matrix elements within the nonrelativistic-QCD (NRQCD) factorization formalism proposed by Bodwin, Braaten, and Lepage. We find that the matrix elements which describe the formation of J/psi mesons from colour-octet cc-bar pairs in the angular-momentum states ^{2S+1}L_J = ^1S_0 and ^3P_J, with J = 0,1,2, which are responsible for the excess of the predicted cross section of inelastic J/psi pho…
Using e+e- -> Ds^-Ds^{*+} and Ds^{*-}Ds^+ interactions at 4170 MeV collected with the CLEO-c detector, we investigate the semileptonic decays Ds+ -> f0(980) e+ nu, and Ds+ -> phi e+ nu. By examining the decay rates as functions of the four-momentum transfer squared, q^2, we measure the ratio [dB/dq^2(Ds+ -> f0(980) e+ nu) B(f0 -> pi+pi-)]/[dB/dq^2(Ds+ -> phi e+ nu)B(phi -> K+K-)] at q^2 of zero to be (42 +/- 11)%. This ratio has been predicted to equal the rate ratio [B(Bs -> J/psi f_0)B(f0 -> pi+pi-)]/[B(Bs -> J/psi phi)B(phi -> K+K-)], thus indicating that the CP eigenstate J/psi f0 could be…
We present a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decay B0_s -> phi mu+ mu- using about 0.45 fb^-1 of data collected in p \bar p collisions at sqrt{s} =1.96 TeV with the DØdetector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We find an upper limit on the branching ratio of this decay normalized to B0_s -> J/psi phi of B(B0_s -> phi mu+ mu-)/B(B0_s -> J/psi phi) < 4.4\times 10^{-3} at the 95% C.L. Using the central value of the world average branching fraction of B0_s -> J/psi phi, the limit corresponds to B(B0_s -> phi mu+ mu-) < 4.1 \times 10^{-6} at the 95% C.L., the most stringent upper bo…
We calculate the cross section of inclusive direct J/psi hadroproduction at next-to-leading order (NLO) within the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics (NRQCD), including the full relativistic corrections due to the intermediate 1S_0^[8], 3S_1^[8], and 3P_J^[8] color-octet states. We perform a combined fit of the color-octet (CO) long-distance matrix elements to the transverse-momentum (p_T) distributions measured by CDF at the Fermilab Tevatron and H1 at DESY HERA and demonstrate that they also successfully describe the p_T distributions from PHENIX at BNL RHIC an…

The observation of a narrow structure near the J/psi phi threshold in exclusive B+ to J/psi phi K+ decays produced in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV is reported. A signal of 19 +- 6(stat) +- 3(syst) events, with statistical significance of 5.0 standard deviations, is seen in a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6.0 invfb, collected by the CDF II detector. The mass and natural width of the structure are determined to be m = 4143.4 + 2.9 - 3.0(stat) +- 0.6(syst) MeV and Gamma = 15.3 + 10.4 - 6.1(stat) +- 2.5(syst) MeV, consistent with the previous measurements repo…
Using data accumulated with the CLEO detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.46 1/pb on the peak of the psi(2S) and 20.46 1/pb at E_CM=3.67 GeV, we report preliminary branching fraction measurements for seven new decay modes of the psi(2S) (eta 3pi, eta' 3pi, 2(K+ K-), p pbar K+ K-, Lambda Lambdabar pi+ pi-, Lambda pbar K+, and Lambda pbar K+ pi+ pi-) and more precise measurements of nine previously measured modes (2(pi+pi-), 2(pi+pi-) pi0, omega pi+pi-, K+ K- pi+ pi-, phi pi+ pi-, omega K+ K-, phi K+ K-, p pbar pi+ pi-, and Lambda Lambdabar). We also include a study of omega p…
Using a sample of $58\times 10^6$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESII detector, radiative decays $J/ψ\toγγV$, where $V=ρ$ or $ϕ$, are studied. A resonance around 1420 MeV/c$^2$ (X(1424)) is observed in the $γρ$ mass spectrum. Its mass and width are measured to be $1424\pm 10(stat)\pm 11(sys)$ MeV/c$^2$ and $ 101.0\pm 8.8 \pm 8.8$ MeV/c$^2$, respectively, and its branching ratio $B(J/ψ\to γX(1424)\to γγρ)$ is determined to be $(1.07\pm0.17 \pm 0.11)\times 10^{-4}$. A search for $X(1424)\to γϕ$ yields a 95% C.L. upper limit $B(J/ψ\to γX(1424)\to γγϕ) < 0.82 \times 10^{-4}$.
The CKM mechanism is well established as the dominant mechanism for $CP$ violation, which was first discovered in the neutral kaons in 1964 \cite{ref:cpkaon}. To search for new sources of CP violation, one can exploit a handful of systems in which the standard model makes a precise prediction of CP violation. In the $B^0_s\to J/ψϕ$ system, CP violation in the interference of mixing and decay is precisely predicted in the standard model, the prediction being very close to zero. The CDF experiment reconstructs about 2000 signal events in 1.35 fb$^{-1}$ of luminosity. We obtain a confidence regio…
Quarkonium production in proton-proton (pp) collision provides interesting means to study the parton content and their correlations in the proton. Recent LHC and Tevatron data of J/psi + Z, J/psi + W and J/psi +J/psi production suggest the relevance of double parton scatterings (DPSs) as opposed to single parton scatterings (SPSs). In this proceedings contribution, we review the corresponding SPS contributions and discuss their upper limits set up by quark-hadron duality. These allow us to perform an improved extraction of the DPS yields and of their implications.
We present experimental results on b-hadron mass measurements and b-meson oscillations based on integrated luminosity of 250 to 450 pb-1 of proton-antiproton collisions at c.m. energy = 1.98 TeV by the CDF and D0 collaborations at the Tevatron. The masses of b-hadrons have been measured precisely by the CDF collaboration in decays containing a J/psi . A blind search of the decay mode Bc to J/psi pi resulted in a peak of 18.9 +/- 5.4 candidates at a mass value of 6287.0 +/- 4.5 +/- 1.1 MeV/c2. A new limit has been set to the decay B_d,s to mu+ mu-. Both the CDF and D0 collaborations are in the …
Recently, the CDF and D0 collaborations measured indirect CP violation in Bs -> J/psi phi and found a hint of a signal. If taken at face value, this can be interpreted as a nonzero phase of Bs-Bsbar mixing (beta_s), in disagreement with the standard model, which predicts that beta_s ~= 0. In this paper, we argue that this analysis may be incomplete. In particular, there can be new physics (NP) in the bbar -> sbar c cbar decay. If so, the value of beta_s is different than for the case in which NP is assumed to be present only in the mixing. We have examined several models of NP and found that, …
We show that the colour-singlet contributions to the hadroproduction of J/psi in association with a W boson are sizable, if not dominant over the colour-octet contributions. They are of two kinds, sg -> J/psi + c + W at alpha^3_S alpha and q q'-bar -> gamma*/Z* W -> J/psi W at order alpha^3. These have not been considered in the literature until now. Our conclusion is that the hadroproduction of a J/psi in association with a W boson cannot be claimed as a clean probe of the colour-octet mechanism. The rate are small even at the LHC and it will be very delicate to disentangle the colour-octet c…
We present the first observation of the decay B->J/psi phi K. Using 9.6 million B meson pairs collected with the CLEO detector, we have observed 10 fully reconstructed B->J/psi phi K candidates, whereas the estimated background is 0.5+/-0.2 events. We obtain a branching fraction of Br(B->J/psi phi K) = (8.8+3.5/-3.0(stat)+/-1.3(syst))*10^-5. This is the first observed $B$ meson decay requiring the creation of an additional s sbar quark pair.
We present a measurement of the B_c+ meson lifetime in the semileptonic decay mode Bc+ ->J/Psi e+ nu using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. From a sample of about 360pb-1 p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s)=1.96TeV, we reconstruct J/Psi e+ pairs with invariant mass in the kinematically allowed range 4<M(J/Psi e)<6GeV/c^2. A fit to the decay-length distribution of 238 signal events yields a measured Bc mesion lifetime 0.463 (+0.073,-0.065)+-0.036 ps.
We report a study of the decays B0 -> J/psi K(*)0 pi+ pi-, which involve the creation of a u u-bar or d d-bar quark pair in addition to a b-bar -> c-bar(c s-bar) decay. The data sample consists of 110 1/pb of p p-bar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.8 TeV collected by the CDF detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider during 1992-1995. We measure the branching ratios to be BR(B0 -> J/psi K*0 pi+ pi-) = (8.0 +- 2.2 +- 1.5) * 10^{-4} and BR(B0 -> J/psi K0 pi+ pi-) = (1.1 +- 0.4 +- 0.2) * 10^{-3}. Contributions to these decays are seen from psi(2S) K(*)0, J/psi K0 rho0, J/psi K*+ pi-, and J/psi K1(1270)…
We emphasize that the recent measurements of the B^0_s - bar B^0_s mass difference Delta M_s by the CDF and D0 collaborations offer an important model independent test of minimal flavour violation (MFV). The improved measurements of the angle gamma in the unitarity triangle and of |V_ub| from tree level decays, combined with future accurate measurements of Delta M_s, S_{psi K_S}, S_{psi phi}, Br(B_{d,s} -> mu+ mu-), Br(B -> X_{d,s} nu bar nu), Br(K+ -> pi+ nu bar nu) and Br(K_L -> pi^0 nu bar nu) and improved values of the relevant non-perturbative parameters, will allow to test the MFV hypoth…
We present a measurement of the direct CP-violating charge asymmetry in B^pm mesons decaying to J/psi K^pm and J/psi pi^pm where J/psi decays to mu^+ mu^-, using 10.4 fb$^-1 of proton-antiproton collisions collected by the D0 detector during Run II at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. A difference in the yield of B^- and B^+ mesons in these decays is found by fitting to the difference between their reconstructed invariant mass distributions resulting in asymmetries of ajpk =[ 0.59 \pm 0.36 ]%, which is the most precise measurement to date, and ajppi= [ -4.2 \pm 4.8 ]%.Both measurements are consi…
The CDF Collaboration has adapted several heavy flavor tagging techniques and employed them in analyses of time-dependent flavor asymmetries using data from the Tevatron Run I. The tagging algorithms were calibrated using low-P_t inclusive lepton and dilepton trigger data samples. The tagging techniques were applied to a sample of \sim 400 B^0_d/B-bar^0_d -> J/psi K^0_s decays and were used to measure the CP violation parameter, sin(2 Beta). Prospects for future improved measurements of the CP violation parameters at the Tevatron are briefly discussed.
We report a measurement of the Lambda_b lifetime in the exclusive decay Lambda_b --> J/psi Lambda0 in p-pbar collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.96 TeV using an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb^{-1} of data collected by the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron. Using fully reconstructed decays, we measure tau(Lambda_b) = 1.593 ^{+0.083}_{-0.078} (stat.) +- 0.033 (syst.) ps. This is the single most precise measurement of tau(Lambda_b) and is 3.2 sigma higher than the current world average.
Using the QCD sum rules we test if the charmonium-like structure Y(4274), observed in the $J/ψϕ$ invariant mass spectrum, can be described with a $D_s\bar{D}_{s0}(2317)+h.c.$ molecular current with $J^{PC}=0^{-+}$. We consider the contributions of condensates up to dimension ten and we work at leading order in $α_s$. We keep terms which are linear in the strange quark mass $m_s$. The mass obtained for such state is $m_{D_s{D}_{s0}}=(4.80\pm 0.55)$ GeV. We also consider a molecular $0^{-+}$ $D\bar{D}_{0}(2400)+h.c.$ current and we obtain $m_{D{D}_0}=(4.61\pm 0.71)$ GeV. Our study shows that the…
