We study the observability for a Higgs boson at upgraded Tevatron via the modes gg->h->ZZ->4l (l=e,mu). We find that the signal can be observed at an integrated luminosity of 30 fb^(-1) if the fourth SM family exists.
The exiatence of extra SM families results in essential enhancement of the gluon fusion channel Higgs boson production at hadron colliders. In this case, the SM Higgs boson can be seen at the upgraded Tevatron via the "golden mode" (H-->4l) for certain values of its mass.
We re-examine like-sign dilepton signals at the Fermilab Tevatron assuming that the excess high-$Q^2$ events recently seen at HERA are due to scalar resonances such as squarks of $R$-parity-violating supersymmetry. For gluinos in the mass range of 200--350 GeV, the like-sign dilepton signal can help to make the crucial distinction between the most favoured squark explanation and other proposed solutions.
Recent Tevatron exclusion interval of the masses of Higgs boson considerably reduces in case of the light quasistable fourth generation neutral lepton.
CDF recently measured the quantity $\frac{σ(B_c^+)}{σ(B^+)} \frac{{\rm BR}(B_c^+ \to J/ψ\ell^+ ν)}{{\rm BR}(B^+ \to J/ψK^+)}$, {}from which we determine the ratio $\frac{σ(B_c^+)}{σ(\bar b)}$ to be $(2.08\err{1.06}{0.95})\times 10^{-3}$. In this note, we show that the ratio $\frac{σ(B_c^+)}{σ(\bar b)}$ obtained by dividing the $σ(B_c^+)$ by the leading order $σ(\bar b)$ is consistent with this derived CDF measurement. We calculate the cross section $σ(B_c^+)$ using the perturbative QCD fragmentation functions of Braaten, Cheung, and Yuan and the corresponding induced gluon fragmentation functi…
Motivated by the recent experimental observation of exclusive chi_c events at the Tevatron, we revisit earlier studies of central exclusive scalar chi_c0 meson production, before generalising the existing formalism to include chi_c1 and chi_c2 mesons. Although chi_c0 production was previously assumed to be dominant, we find that the chi_c1 and chi_c2 rates for the experimentally considered chi_c -> J/psi gamma -> mu+ mu- gamma decay process are in fact comparable to the chi_c0 rate. We have developed a new Monte Carlo event generator, SuperCHIC, which models the central exclusive production of…
Within a wide class of models, the LEP2 lower limit of 95 GeV on the chargino mass implies gluinos are heavier than $\sim$300 GeV. In this case electroweak $\tw_1\twb_1$ and $\tw_1\tz_2$ production are the dominant SUSY processes at the Tevatron, and the extensively examined isolated trilepton signal from $\tw_1\tz_2$ production assumes an even greater importance. We update our previous calculations of the SUSY reach of luminosity upgrades of the Fermilab Tevatron in this channel incorporating ({\it i}) decay matrix elements in the computation of the momenta of leptons from chargino and neutra…
Associated production of a baryonic Z' boson with the W boson can account for the excess in Wjj production observed by the CDF collaboration at the Tevatron. We analyze other possible channels of this Z' at the Tevatron and at the LHC, including γZ' and Z Z' with the Z' -> jj. We show that the chances of confirming this baryonic Z' is better at the Tevatron than at the LHC because of the faster growing backgrounds at the LHC. Unfortunately the current systematic uncertainties of the order of 10% cannot yield any significant excess in both γZ' and Z Z' channels at the Tevatron and also at the L…
The latest electroweak precission data allow the existence of additional chiral generations in the standard model. We study the influence of extra generations on the production of SM Higgs boson at hadron colliders. Due to the enhancement of the gluon fusion channel, the ``golden mode'' becomes more promising even at upgraded Tevatron. Furthermore, the formation of the fourth family quarkonia with the subsequent $η_{4}\to ZH$ decay introduces additional tool for the investigation of the Higgs boson properties.
The direct production of $J/ψ(ψ')$ at large transverse momentum, $p_T \gg M_{J/ψ}$, at the Fermilab Tevatron is revisited. It is found that the sea-quark initiated processes dominate in the high-$p_T$ region within the framework of color-singlet model, which is not widely realized. We think this finding is enlightening for further investigation on the charmonium production mechanism.
We derive the Fermi's golden rule in the Gaussian wave-packet formalism of quantum field theory, proposed by Ishikawa, Shimomura, and Tobita, for the particle decay within a finite time interval. We present a systematic procedure to separate the bulk contribution from those of time boundaries, while manifestly maintaining the unitarity of the $S$-matrix unlike the proposal by Stueckelberg in 1951. We also revisit the suggested deviation from the golden rule and clarify that it indeed corresponds to the boundary contributions, though their physical significance is yet to be confirmed.
In our latest paper "Search for anomalous top-gluon couplings at LHC revisited" in Eur. Phys. J. C65 (2010), 127-135 (arXiv:0910.3049 [hep-ph]), we studied possible effects of nonstandard top-gluon couplings through the chromoelectric and chromomagnetic moments of the top quark using the total cross section of ppbar/pp --> ttbar X at Tevatron/LHC. There we pointed out that LHC data could give a stronger constraint on those two parameters, which would be hard to obtain from Tevatron data alone. We show here the first CMS measurement of this cross section actually makes it possible.
Analyzing the $\ell +n$-$jets+ \met$ (where $n \ge 2 $), data from Run-I of the Tevatron using the Bayesian technique, we obtain model independent limits on the product $\br(\lstop\ra be^{+}ν_e \lspone) \times \br(\lstop^{*}\ra \bar{b}q\bar{q^{\prime}}\lspone)$ for different values of the lighter top squark($\lstop$) mass and the lightest supersymmetric particle($\lspone$) mass. The SUSY signals have been simulated by interfacing the 4-body decay of $\lstop$ at the parton level with the event generator PYTHIA. These limits have been translated into exclusion plots in the $\mlstop$-$\mlspone$ p…
The production of a Standard Model Higgs boson in association with a top quark pair at the upcoming high luminosity run (15 inverse fb integrated luminosity) of the Fermilab Tevatron (root s = 2.0 TeV) is revisited. For Higgs masses below 140 GeV we demonstrate that the production cross section times branching ratio for H->B Bbar decays yields a significant number of events and that this mode is competitive with and complementary to the searches using P Pbar -> WH, ZH associated production. For higher mass Higgs bosons the H -> W+ W- decays are more difficult but have the potential to provide …
We study the phenomenological consequences of a four site Higgsless model based on the SU(2)_L x SU(2)_1 x SU(2)_2 x U(1)_Y gauge symmetry, which predicts two neutral and four charged extra gauge bosons, Z_{1,2} and W_{1,2}. The model represents an extension of the minimal three site version (or BESS model), largely investigated in the literature, which includes three heavy vector bosons. We compute the properties of the new particles, and derive indirect and direct limits on their masses and couplings from LEP and Tevatron data and from the perturbative unitarity requirements. In contrast to …
In the minimal Universal Extra Dimension (mUED) model, the second Kaluza-Klein (KK) gluon $g^{(2)}$ has loop-induced vertices with the standard model quarks, mediated by the first KK modes of the quark and the gluon/Higgs boson. With a top quark pair, this vertex is enhanced by the cooperation of the strong coupling of a gluon and the large Yukawa coupling of a top quark, leading to substantial branching ratio of $Br(g^{(2)} \to t \bar{t}) \approx 7%-8%$. As the $g^{(2)}$ coupling with two gluons appears via dimension-6 operator, $q\bar{q}\to g^{(2)}\to t\bar{t}$ is the golden mode for the mUE…
Through top-quark pair productions at LHC, we study possible effects of nonstandard top-gluon couplings yielded by SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1) invariant dimension-6 effective operators. We calculate the total cross section and also some distributions for p p -> t tbar X as functions of two anomalous-coupling parameters, i.e., the chromoelectric and chromomagnetic moments of the top, which are constrained by the total cross section sigma(p pbar -> t tbar X) measured at Tevatron. We find that LHC might give us some chances to observe sizable effects induced by those new couplings.
Direct and indirect searches of the Higgs boson suggest that 113 GeV $\lesssim m_H \lesssim$ 170 GeV is likely. With the LEP era over and the Tevatron Run II search via $p\bar p \to WH+X$ arduous, we revisit a case where $WH$ or $ZH +$ jets could arise via strong $b^\prime\bar b^\prime$ pair production. In contrast to 10 years ago, the tight electroweak constraint on $t^\prime$--$b^\prime$ (hence $t^\prime$--$t$) splitting reduces FCNC $b^\prime\to bZ$, $bH$ rates, making $b^\prime\to cW$ naturally competitive. Such a "cocktail solution" is precisely the mix that could evade the CDF search for…
We consider a simple extension of the Standard Model by the addition of N real scalar gauge singlets $\vp$ that are candidates for Dark Matter. By collecting theoretical and experimental constraints we determine the space of allowed parameters of the model. The possibility of ameliorating the little hierarchy problem within the multi-singlet model is discussed. The Spergel-Steinhardt solution of the Dark Matter density cusp problem is revisited. It is shown that fitting the recent CRESST-II data for Dark Matter nucleus scattering implies that the standard Higgs boson decays predominantly into …
