We determine the anomaly free discrete R symmetries, consistent with the MSSM, that commute with SU(5) and suppress the $μ$ parameter and nucleon decay. We show that the order M of such $Z_M^R$ symmetries has to divide 24 and identify 5 viable symmetries. The simplest possibility is a $Z_4^R$ symmetry which commutes with SO(10). We present a string-derived model with this $Z_4^R$ symmetry and the exact MSSM spectrum below the GUT scale; in this model $Z_4^R$ originates from the Lorentz symmetry of compactified dimensions. We extend the discussion to include the singlet extensions of the MSSM and find $Z_4^R$ and $Z_8^R$ are the only possible symmetries capable of solving the $μ$ problem in the NMSSM. We also show that a singlet extension of the MSSM based on a $Z_{24}^R$ symmetry can provide a simultaneous solution to the $μ$ and strong CP problem with the axion coupling in the favoured window.
We discuss singlet extensions of the MSSM with $\Z4^R$ symmetry. We show that holomorphic zeros can avoid a potentially large coefficient of the term linear in the singlet. The emerging model has both an effective mu term and a supersymmetric mass term for the singlet mu_N which are controlled by the gravitino mass. The mu term turns out to be suppressed against mu_N by about one or two orders of magnitude. We argue that this class of models might provide us with a solution to the little hierarchy problem of the MSSM.
In this lectures, we give a review about the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and the General Singlet Extensions of the MSSM (GSEMSSM). We, first introduce the minimal set of fields to built both models. Then we introduce their superfields and using them we build the lagrangian of those models in the superspace formalism. We show how to get the mass spectrum of those model in the $R$-parity scenarios and we also show how to get some Feynman Rules with the Gauge Bosons.
The Higgs sector of the MSSM may be extended to solve the mu problem by the addition of a gauge singlet scalar field. We consider the consequences of the singlet on the Higgs and neutralino states compositions. We discuss the potential for discovering Higgs bosons of singlet models and observing the unique multilepton signatures of the extended neutralino sector.
In this note we briefly review the recent studies of dark matter in the MSSM and its singlet extensions: the NMSSM, the nMSSM, and the general singlet extension. Under the new detection results of CDMS II, XENON, CoGeNT and PAMELA, we find that (i) the latest detection results can exclude a large part of the parameter space which allowed by current collider constraints in these models. The future SuperCDMS and XENON can cover most of the allowed parameter space; (ii) the singlet sector will decouple from the MSSM-like sector in the NMSSM, however, singlet sector makes the nMSSM quite different…
Extending the Higgs sector of the MSSM by the addition of a gauge singlet scalar field can remedy the mu problem. We explore the implications of extended models for both the spectrum of the neutralinos and the cascade decays of the neutralinos and charginos. Extra steps due to light decoupled neutralinos in the cascade decays of both neutralinos and charginos allow an excess of trilepton events compared to the MSSM and the existence of events with higher lepton multiplicity. Additionally, displaced vertices of the chi_2^0 due to small decay widths in some models may be observable.
We study an extension of the MSSM which includes both new SU(2) triplets with hypercharge $\pm 1$ and a SM gauge singlet (a la NMSSM) which are coupled to each other. We are motivated by the little hierarchy problem, as well as by the $μ$ problem of the MSSM. We show that the NMSSM and the triplet-extended MSSM can successfully solve problems of one another: while triplets are responsible for large correction to the lightest physical Higgs mass, the singlet's VEV explains why the $μ$ terms (for the Higgs doublets and the new triplets) are naturally of order the electroweak (EW) scale. We also …
Using the latest PandaX limits on light dark matter (DM) with light mediator, we check the implication on the parameter space of the general singlet extension of MSSM (without $Z_3$ symmetry), which can have a sizable DM self-interaction to solve the small-scale structure problem. We find that the PandaX limits can stringently constrain such a paramter space, depending on the coupling $λ$ between the singlet and doublet Higgs fields. For the singlet extension of MSSM with $Z_3$ symmetry, the so-called NMSSM, we also demonstrate the PandaX constraints on its parameter space which gives a light …
We show that the upper bound on the lightest Higgs mass in the MSSM is relaxed by introducing a singlet which couples to the Higgs fields, even at a large tan beta region, preferable for explaining the muon anomalous magnetic moment. In the models of a singlet extension, it is known that the upper bound is relaxed by a tree-level contribution, especially at small tan beta region. For large tan beta, however, the requirement for the perturbativity on the singlet-Higgs coupling up to the GUT scale prevents the lightest Higgs from obtaining a large tree-level mass. We construct an explicit UV com…
We study the di-photon rate in Higgs decays within singlet extensions of the supersymmetric standard model. In particular we point out that light charginos as well as a light charged Higgs can significantly contribute to the corresponding partial decay width, allowing for an explanation of the experimental indication whithin a natural supersymmetric model. This is in contrast to the `light stau scenario' proposed within the framework of the MSSM which requires a large amount of electroweak fine tuning.
In order to raise the Higgs mass up to 125 GeV and relieve the fine-tuning associated with the heavy s-top mass in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), we propose a new singlet extension of the MSSM. In this scenario, the additional Higgs mass is radiatively generated also in a hidden sector, and the effect is tansmitted to the Higgs through a messenger field. The Higgs mass can be efficiently increased by the parameters of the superpotential as in the extra matter scenario, but free from the constraints on extra colored matter fields by the LHC experiments. As a result, the tunin…
In order to meet the requirement of BBN, the right handed neutrino is added to the singlet Higgs sector in the GNMSSM. The spectrum and Feynman rules are calculated. the dark matter phenomenology is also studied. In case of $ł\sim 0$, the singlet sector can give perfect explanation of relic abundance of dark matter and small cosmological structure simulations. The BBN constraints on the light mediator can be easily solved by decaying to the right handed neutrino. When the $ł_N$ is at the order of $\mathcal{O}(0.1)$, the mass of the mediator can be constrained to several MeV
We analyse the current status of the dilaton domination scenario in the MSSM and its singlet extensions taking into account the measured value of the Higgs mass, the relic abundance of dark matter and constraints from SUSY searches at the LHC. We find that in the case of the MSSM the requirement of a dark matter relic abundance in accord with observation severely restricts the allowed parameter space, implying an upper bound on the superpartner masses which makes it fully testable at LHC-14. In singlet extensions with a large singlet-MSSM coupling $λ$ as favoured by naturalness arguments the c…
It is argued that the Next-to-MSSM (NMSSM) is unnatural from the point of view of cosmology and fine tuning. In particular, such singlet extensions to the MSSM do not provide a simple solution to the `$μ$-problem'. Models with singlets can be constructed using gauged-$R$ symmetry or target space duality. However their superpotentials have terms in addition to those of the NMSSM.
As discussed recently by Hooper and Tait, the singlino-like dark matter in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) extended by a singlet Higgs superfield can give a perfect explanation for both the relic density and the Pamela result through the Sommerfeld-enhanced annihilation into singlet Higgs bosons ($a$ or $h$ followed by $h->a a$) with $a$ being light enough to decay dominantly to muons or electrons. In this work we analyze the parameter space required by such a dark matter explanation and also consider the constraints from the LEP experiments. We find that although the light si…
We present a generalization of the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (NMSSM), with an explicit mu-term and a supersymmetric mass for the singlet superfield, as a route to alleviating the little hierarchy problem of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Though this model does not address the mu-problem of the MSSM, we are able to generate masses for the lightest neutral Higgs boson up to 140 GeV with top squarks below the TeV scale, all couplings perturbative to the gauge unification scale, and with no need to fine tune parameters in the scalar potential. This model, whi…
We consider a class of $U(1)^\prime$-extended MSSM in which the $U(1)^{\prime}$ symmetry is broken by vacuum expectation values (VEVs) of four MSSM singlet fields. While one MSSM singlet field interacts with the MSSM Higgs fields, three of them interact only with each other in forming a secluded sector. Assigning universal $U(1)^{\prime}$ charges for three families, the anomaly cancellation condition requires exotic fields which are assumed to be heavy and decoupled. We discuss a variety of $U(1)^{\prime}$ charge assignments and anomaly cancellation, $Z^{\prime}/Z$ hierarchy, neutralinos, char…
In order that discrete symmetries should not be violated by gravitational effects, it is necessary to gauge them. In this paper we discuss the gauging of $\Z_N$ from the breaking of a high energy $SU(N)$ gauge symmetry, and derive consistency conditions for the resulting discrete symmetry fr om the requirement of anomaly cancellation in the parent symmetry. These results are then applied to a detailed analysis of the possible discrete symmetries forbidding proton decay in the minimal supersymmetric standard model.
Low-energy supersymmetric models such as MSSM, NMSSM and MSSM with vectorlike fermion are consistent with perturbative unification. While the non-minimal extensions naturally explain Higgs mass and dark matter in the low energy region, it is unclear how seriously they are constrained in the ultraviolet region. Our study shows that $i)$, In the case of embedding MSSM into $\rm{SU}(5)$, the fit to SM fermion masses requires a singlet $S$, which leads to unviable embedding of NMSSM into $\rm{SU}(5)$ because such $S$ feeds singlet $N$ a mass of order unification scale as well. $ii)$, Similar resul…
The minimal extension of the MSSM (NMSSM) has been widely studied in the search for a natural solution to the $μ$ problem. In this work, we consider a variation of the NMSSM where an extra singlet is added and a Peccei-Quinn symmetry is imposed. We study its neutralino sector and compute the annihilation cross section of the lightest neutralino. We use existent cosmological and collider data to constrain the parameter space and consider the lightest neutralino, which is very light, as a dark matter candidate.
We investigate the correlated predictions of singlet extended MSSM models for direct detection of the lightest neutralino with its cosmological relic density. To illustrate the general effects of the singlet, we take heavy sleptons and squarks. We apply LEP, $(g-2)_μ$ and perturbativity constraints. We find that the WMAP upper bound on the cold dark matter density limits much of the parameter space to regions where the lightest neutralino can be discovered in recoil experiments. The results for the NMSSM and UMSSM are typically similar to the MSSM since their light neutralinos have similar com…
In the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) extended by a singlet superfield, when the coupling between the singlet sector and the MSSM sector is tiny, the singlet sector can be a quasi dark sector with supersymmetry (SUSY). We investigate the cosmological phenomena in this scenario and obtain the following observations: (i) In the parameter space solving the small cosmological scale anomalies via self-interacting singlino dark matter (SIDM), a first-order phase transition (FOPT) can readily happen but requires rather light dark matter below MeV; (ii) The corresponding parameter space …
We propose a new dynamical relaxation mechanism of the little hierarchy problem, based on a singlet extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). In this scenario, the small soft mass parameter of an MSSM singlet is responsible for the electroweak symmetry breaking and the non-zero Higgs vacuum expectation value, whereas the effect of the large soft mass parameter of the Higgs boson, -m_{h_u}^2 is dynamically compensated by a flat direction of the MSSM singlets. The small singlet's soft mass and the Z boson mass can be protected, even if the stop mass is heavier than 10 or 20 …
In this work we show that the general singlet extension of the MSSM can naturally provide a self-interacting singlino dark matter to solve the small cosmological scale anomalies (a large Sommerfeld enhancement factor can also be obtained). However, we find that the NMSSM (the singlet extension of the MSSM with Z3 symmetry) cannot achieve this due to the restricted parameter space. In our analysis we introduce the concept of symmetric and antisymmetric viscosity cross sections to deal with the non-relativistic Majorana-fermion dark matter scattering.
We embed the S-MSSM -- a singlet extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model with an explicit mu-term and supersymmetric mass term -- in a gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking scheme. We find that by absolving the singlet of its responsibility for solving the mu-problem, we are instead able to solve the little hierarchy problem naturally. Specifically, we find that even with a minimal embedding of the S-MSSM into a gauge-mediated scheme, we can easily raise the lightest Higgs mass above 114 GeV, while keeping top squarks below the TeV scale, maintaining perturbative unification of …
We propose an economic extension of minimal supersymmetric standard model with a SU(2) singlet and Y=0 triplet, which can explain (i) the 125 GeV Higgs boson without fine tuning, (ii) the 130 GeV $γ$-ray line seen at Fermi-LAT, (as well as a second photon line at 114 GeV)(iii) an enhanced Higgs di-photon decay rate seen by ATLAS, while being consistent with dark matter relic density and recent XENON 100 exclusion limits on spin-independent direct detection cross-section. We obtain the required cross-section of $10^{-27}cm^3s^{-1}$ for the 130 GeV $γ$-ray flux through the resonant annihilation …
We map out possible extensions of the MSSM in the context of type II string theory. We systematically investigate three-stack and four-stack quivers which realize the MSSM spectrum with the addition of a single MSSM singlet S with an allowed S H_u H_d term, which can lead to a dynamical electroweak-scale mu-term. We present the three quivers which satisfy stringent string-theoretic and phenomenological constraints, including the presence of non-zero masses for all three families of quarks and leptons, the perturbative and non-perturbative absence of R-parity violating couplings and rapid dimen…
We discuss a generalization of the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model in the form of three additional singlet superfields, which would explain the essential features of the CDF multi-muon events presented recently: a large production cross section of ~ 100 pb originates from the production of a CP-odd scalar A with a mass in the 70 - 80 GeV range and a large value of tan(beta) ~ 40. The CP-odd scalar A decays dominantly into CP-odd and CP-even scalars a_1 and h_1, which generate decay cascades h_1 -> 2 h_2 -> 4 a_2 -> 8 tau-leptons, and a_1 -> h_1 a_2 with h_1 decaying as a…
An anomaly free non-universal $U(1)_{X}$ extension to the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model is proposed, where additional two $SU(2)$ doublet superfields and four singlet superfields complement the scalar sector of the model. The fermion sector is extended by considering additional superfields containing three quark singlets, two charged lepton singlet superfields and six neutral leptons. A tree-level massless electron is found so radiative corrections are considered to match the mass spectrum with both SUSY and non-SUSY contributions. Likewise, a massless neutrino is found and analytic ex…
We briefly review the supersymetric explanation for the cosmic dark matter. Although the neutralino in the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM), the next-to-minimal supersymmetric model (NMSSM) and the nearly minimal supersymmetric model (nMSSM) can naturaly explain the dark matter relic density, the PAMELA result can hardly be explained in these popular models. In the general singlet extension of the MSSM, both the PAMELA result and the relic density can be explained by the singlino-like neutralino. Such singlino-like neutralinos annihilate into the singlet-like Higgs bosons, which are light e…
We discuss the possibility of light dark matter in a general singlet extension of the MSSM. Singlino LSPs with masses of a few GeV can explain the signals reported by the CRESST, CoGeNT and possibly also DAMA experiments. The interactions between singlinos and nuclei are mediated by a scalar whose properties coincide with those of the SM Higgs up to two crucial differences: the scalar has a mass of a few GeV and its interaction strengths are suppressed by a universal factor. We show that such a scalar can be consistent with current experimental constraints, and that annihilation of singlinos i…
The use of discrete symmetries, especially abelian ones, in physics beyond the standard model of particle physics is discussed. A method is developed how a general, abelian, discrete symmetry can be obtained via spontaneous symmetry breaking. In addition, anomalies are treated in the path integral approach with special attention to anomaly cancellation via the Green-Schwarz mechanism. All this is applied to the minimal supersymmetric standard model. A unique Z_4^R symmetry is discovered which solves the μ-problem as well as problems with proton decay and allows to embed the standard model gaug…
We investigate the extended Higgs sectors, specially the charged Higgs sector in a supersymmetric $Y=0$ $SU(2)$ triplet and a Standard Model (SM) gauge singlet extension of SM. We show that in this model the allowed data for the Higgs boson interaction eigenstates tend to group into separate blocks for $SU(2)$ triplet, doublet and singlet. The triplet sector has two degenerate paired states, each pair composed of a mostly-triplet charged Higgs and of a mostly-triplet scalar or pseudoscalar state. The mostly-doublet sector involves a Standard Model like Higgs of 125 GeV and extra mass-degenerat…
The CDF and D0 collaborations have recently reported a large forward-backward asymmetry in the ttbar system which deviates from the next to-leading order QCD standard model prediction. We study the asymmetry in the ttbar system within the framework of singlet extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. For this purpose, we introduce non-renormalizable couplings between first and third generation of quarks to scalars. We analyze two limiting cases of the model, characterized by the size of the supersymmetric mass for the singlet superfield. We study both the small and large limits …
We investigate the possibility of electroweak phase transition in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) with an extra $U(1)'$. This model has two Higgs doublets and a singlet, in addition to a singlet exotic quark superfield. We find that at the one-loop level this model may accommodate the electroweak phase transitions that are strongly first-order in a reasonably large region of the parameter space. In the parameter region where the phase transitions take place, we observe that the lightest scalar Higgs boson has a smaller mass when the strength of the phase transition becomes wea…
The simplest extension of the supersymmetric standard model - the addition of one singlet superfield - can have a profound impact on the Higgs and its decays. We perform a general operator analysis of this scenario, focusing on the phenomenologically distinct scenarios that can arise, and not restricting the scope to the narrow framework of the NMSSM. We reexamine decays to four b quarks and four tau's, finding that they are still generally viable, but at the edge of LEP limits. We find a broad set of Higgs decay modes, some new, including those with four gluon final states, as well as more ge…
We employ powerful techniques based on Hilbert- and Groebner bases to analyze particle physics models derived from string theory. Individual models are shown to have a huge landscape of vacua that differ in their phenomenological properties. We explore the (discrete) symmetries of these vacua, the new R symmetry selection rules and their consequences for moduli stabilization.
The radiative electroweak symmetry breaking, the b-τYukawa and gauge couplings unification in the MSSM and its SU(5) extensions are studied in detail. In the framework of the two-loop renormalization group equations both low- and high-energy threshold effects are included. In the case of the minimal SU(5), the values of α_s obtained are somewhat larger than the experimental average. The Peccei-Quinn version of the missing-doublet SU(5) model generally predicts smaller values of α_s and b-τunification, in excellent agreement with all low energy experimental data. We also study the generation of…
We construct a new minimal extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) by promoting the $μ$-parameter to a singlet superfield. The resulting renormalizable superpotential is enforced by a $\mathcal{Z}_5$ $R$-symmetry which is imposed on the non-renormalizable operators as well. The proposed model provides a natural solution to the $μ$-problem and is free from phenomenological and cosmological problems.
The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with conserved R-parity suffers from several fine-tuning problems, e.g. the mu-problem and the problem of proton decay through higher dimension operators. Both of these problems can be avoided by replacing R-parity with a non-anomalous U(1)' gauge symmetry which is broken at the TeV scale. The new gauge symmetry does not necessarily forbid all renormalizable R-parity violating interactions among the MSSM fields, and may allow for either lepton number or baryon number violation at the renormalizable level. However, the proton decay problem resurf…
We study the presence of discrete gauge symmetries in D-brane semi-realistic compactifications. After establishing the constraints on the transformation behaviour of the chiral matter for the presence of a discrete gauge symmetry we perform a systematic search for discrete gauge symmetries within local semi-realistic D-brane realizations, based on four D-brane stacks, of the MSSM and the MSSM with three right-handed neutrinos. The systematic search reveals that Proton hexality, a discrete symmetry which ensures the absence of R-parity violating terms as well as the absence of dangerous dimensi…
We consider a scenario within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model extended by a singlet chiral superfield, in which neutralino dark matter annihilates to light singlet-like Higgs bosons, which proceed to decay to either electron-positron or muon-antimuon pairs. Unlike neutralino annihilations in the MSSM, this model can provide a good fit to the PAMELA cosmic ray positron fraction excess. Furthermore, the singlet-like scalar Higgs can induce a large Sommerfeld enhancement and provide an annihilation rate sufficient to accommodate the observed positron excess.
In models with an extended Higgs sector, such as the (N)MSSM, scalar states mix with one another. Yet, the concept of Higgs mixing is problematic at the radiative level, since it introduces both a scheme and a gauge dependence. In particular, the definition of Higgs masses and decay amplitudes can be impaired by the presence of gauge-violating pieces of higher order. We discuss in depth the origin and magnitude of such effects and suggest two strategies preserving or restoring gauge invariance. In addition, the intuitive concept of mixing and the simplicity of its definition in terms of two-po…
We explore the possibility of spontaneous R parity violation in the context of $A_4$ flavor symmetry. Our model contains $SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y$ singlet matter chiral superfields which are arranged as triplet of $A_4$ and as well as few additional Higgs chiral superfields which are singlet under MSSM gauge group and belong to triplet and singlet representation under the $A_4$ flavor symmetry. R parity is broken spontaneously by the vacuum expectation values of the different sneutrino fields and hence we have neutrino-neutralino as well as neutrino-MSSM gauge singlet higgsino mix…
The lack of experimental evidence for supersymmetry motivates R-parity violating realizations of the MSSM. Dropping R-parity, alternative symmetries have to be imposed in order to stabilize the proton. We determine the possible discrete R and non-R symmetries, which allow for renormalizable R-parity violating terms in the superpotential and which, at the effective level, are consistent with the constraints from nucleon decay. Assuming a gauge origin, we require the symmetry to be discrete gauge anomaly-free, allowing also for cancellation via the Green Schwarz mechanism. Furthermore, we demand…
Motivated by the necessity of discrete Z_N symmetries in the MSSM to insure baryon stability, we study the origin of discrete gauge symmetries from open string sector U(1)'s in orientifolds based on rational conformal field theory. By means of an explicit construction, we find an integral basis for the couplings of axions and U(1) factors for all simple current MIPFs and orientifolds of all 168 Gepner models, a total of 32990 distinct cases. We discuss how the presence of discrete symmetries surviving as a subgroup of broken U(1)'s can be derived using this basis. We apply this procedure to mo…
Potential non-relativistic QCD provides a convenient framework to study the three heavy-quark system. We have studied its symmetries under exchange of the heavy quarks and determined the leading ultrasoft contributions to the singlet static potential and to the singlet static energy. Specializing to an equilateral geometry, we have solved the renormalization group equations in order to resum the leading ultrasoft logarithms for the singlet static potential, which is thus known at NNLL accuracy.
We propose a supersymmetric extension of the anomaly-free and three families nonuniversal $U(1)$ model, with the inclusion of four Higgs doublets and four Higgs singlets. The quark sector is extended by adding three exotic quark singlets, while the lepton sector includes two exotic charged lepton singlets, three right-handed neutrinos and three sterile Majorana neutrinos to obtain the fermionic mass spectrum. By implementing an additional $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry, the Yukawa coupling terms are suited in such a way that the fermion mass hierarchy is obtained without fine-tuning. The effective ma…
We investigate the possibility of generating the $μ$-term in the MSSM by the condensation of a field that is a singlet under the SM gauge group but charged under an additional family-independent $U(1)_X$ gauge symmetry. We attempt to do so while preserving the gauge coupling unification of the MSSM. For this, we find that SM non-singlet exotics must be present in the spectrum. We also prove that the pure $U(1)_X$ anomalies can always be solved with rationally charged fields, but that a large number of SM singlets are often required. For $U(1)_X$ charges that are consistent with an embedding of…
Supersymmetry (SUSY) is an attractive extension of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics which solves the SM hierarchy problem. Motivated by the theoretical $μ$-term problem of the Minimal Supersymmetric Model (MSSM), the Next-to MSSM (NMSSM) can also account for experimental deviations from the SM like the anomalous muon magnetic moment and the dark matter relic density. Natural SUSY, motivated by naturalness considerations, exhibits small fine tuning and a characteristic phenomenology with light higgsinos, stops and gluinos. We describe a scan in NMSSM parameter space motivated by Natu…
We study the extension of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model by adding one singlet and one hypercharge zero SU(2) triplet chiral superfield. The triplet sector gives an additional contributions to the scalar masses and we find that the lightest CP-even Higgs boson can have a mass of 119-120 GeV at the tree level, and radiative correction raises the value to 125 GeV. In this model no significant contributions from stop loops is needed to get the required Higgs mass which alleviates the fine tuning problem of fixing the stop mass to a high precision at the GUT scale. In addition this model gi…
A $Z_3$ orbifold compactification of $E_8\times E_8^\prime$ heterotic string is considered toward a trinification $SU(3)^3$ with three light families. The GUT scale VEV's of the $SU(2)_W\times U(1)_Y\times SU(3)_c$ singlet chiral fields in two sets of the trinification spectrum allow an acceptable symmetry breaking pattern toward MSSM. We show that a doublet-triplet splitting is related to the absence of a $ΔB$ nonzero operator.
In this paper we explore extensions of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model involving two $SU(2)_L$ triplet chiral superfields that share a superpotential Dirac mass yet only one of which couples to the Higgs fields. This choice is motivated by recent work using two singlet superfields with the same superpotential requirements. We find that, as in the singlet case, the Higgs mass in the triplet extension can easily be raised to $125\,\text{GeV}$ without introducing large fine-tuning. For triplets that carry hypercharge, the regions of least fine tuning are characterized by small contribut…
Electric dipole moments from the perspective of a scalar triplet and singlet extension of the MSSM: A study of neutrons, electrons, mercury, and b and c quarks
Motivated by the diphoton excess at 750 GeV reported by the ATLAS and CMS experiments, we present an F-theory inspired flipped $SO(10)$ model embedded in an $E_6$ GUT. The low energy spectrum includes the three MSSM chiral families, vectorlike color triplets, several pairs of charged $SU(2)_L$ singlet fields $(E^c, \bar E^c)$, as well as MSSM singlets, one or more of which can contribute to the resonance. Total decay width in the multi-GeV range can arise from couplings involving the singlet and MSSM fields
We elaborate on a recent study of a model of supersymmetry breaking we proposed recently, in the presence of a tunable positive cosmological constant, based on a gauged shift symmetry of a string modulus, external to the Standard Model (SM) sector. Here, we identify this symmetry with a global symmetry of the SM and work out the corresponding phenomenology. A particularly attracting possibility is to use a combination of Baryon and Lepton number that contains the known matter parity and guarantees absence of dimension-four and five operators that violate B and L.
We study possible anomaly-free discrete R-symmetries that avoid the μ-problem and the dangerous D\leq 5 operators considering charge assignments that do not commute with the traditional grand unifying simple groups, such as SU(5) or SO(10), but commute instead with the so-called flipped-SU(5), with or without the operation of the GS mechanism. We find Z_N symmetries with N = 3, 6 in the anomaly-free case or N = 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24 in the case of anomaly cancellation through the Green-Schwartz mechanism. Non-unified cases (Z_5) have also been discussed. We also confront the construction of a 4D …
We study neutralino sectors in extensions of the MSSM that dynamically generate the mu-term. The extra neutralino states are superpartners of the Higgs singlets and/or additional gauge bosons. The extended models may have distinct lightest neutralino properties which can have important influences on their phenomenology. We consider constraints on the lightest neutralino from LEP, Tevatron, and (g-2)_mu measurements and the relic density of the dark matter. The lightest neutralino can be extremely light and/or dominated by its singlino component which does not couple directly to SM particles ex…
Recent discovery of the SM-like Higgs boson with $m_h\simeq 125$ GeV motivates an extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), which involves a singlet Higgs superfield with a sizable Yukawa coupling to the doublet Higgs superfields. We examine such singlet-extended SUSY models with a Peccei-Quinn (PQ) symmetry that originates from an anomalous $U(1)_A$ gauge symmetry. We focus on the specific scheme that the PQ symmetry is spontaneously broken at an intermediate scale $v_{\rm PQ}\sim \sqrt{m_{\rm SUSY}M_{\rm Pl}}$ by an interplay between Planck scale suppressed operators and…
