This paper examines the existence of the self-intersection local time for a superprocess over a stochastic flow in dimensions $d\leq3$, which through constructive methods, results in a Tanaka-like representation. The superprocess over a stochastic flow is a superprocess with dependent spatial motion, and thus Dynkin's proof of existence, which requires multiplicity of the log-Laplace functional, no longer applies. Skoulakis and Adler's method of calculating moments is extended to higher moments, from which existence follows.
The existence of self-intersection local time (SILT), when the time diagonal is intersected, of the $(α,d,β)$-superprocess is proved for $d/2<α$ and for a renormalized SILT when $d/(2+(1+β)^{-1})<α\leq d/2$. We also establish Tanaka-like formula for SILT.
We show the existence of superprocesses in a random medium with location dependent branching. Technically, we make use of a duality relation to establish the uniqueness of the martingale problem and to obtain the moment formulas.
Stochastic solutions provide new rigorous results for nonlinear PDE's and, through its local non-grid nature, are a natural tool for parallel computation. There are two different approaches for the construction of stochastic solutions: McKean's and superprocesses. In favour of superprocesses is the fact that they handle arbitrary boundary conditions. However, when restricted to measures, superprocesses can only be used to generate solutions for a limited class of nonlinear PDE's. A new class of superprocesses, namely superprocesses on ultradistributions, is proposed to extend the stochastic so…
A superprocess with dependent spatial motion and interactive immigration is constructed as the pathwise unique solution of a stochastic integral equation carried by a stochastic flow and driven by Poisson processes of one-dimensional excursions.
It is well understood that a supercritical superprocess is equal in law to a discrete Markov branching process whose genealogy is dressed in a Poissonian way with immigration which initiates subcritial superprocesses. The Markov branching process corresponds to the genealogical description of prolific individuals, that is individuals who produce eternal genealogical lines of decent, and is often referred to as the skeleton or backbone of the original superprocess. The Poissonian dressing along the skeleton may be considered to be the remaining non-prolific genealogical mass in the superprocess…
For a superprocess under a stochastic flow, we prove that it has a density with respect to the Lebesgue measure for d=1 and is singular for d>1. For d=1, a stochastic partial differential equation is derived for the density. The regularity of the solution is then proved by using Krylov's L_p-theory for linear SPDE. A snake representation for this superprocess is established. As applications of this representation, we prove the compact support property for general d and singularity of the process when d>1.
A purely atomic immigration superprocess with dependent spatial motion in the space of tempered measures is constructed as the unique strong solution of a stochastic integral equation driven by Poisson processes based on the excursion law of a Feller branching diffusion, which generalizes the work of Dawson and Li (2003). As an application of the stochastic equation, it is proved that the superprocess possesses a local time which is Holder continuous of order $α$ for every $α< 1/2$. We establish two scaling limit theorems for the immigration superprocess, from which we derive scaling limits fo…
We construct two kinds of stochastic flows of discrete Galton-Watson branching processes. Some scaling limit theorems for the flows are proved, which lead to local and nonlocal branching superprocesses over the positive half line.
We first prove some general results on pathwise uniqueness, comparison property and existence of nonnegative strong solutions of stochastic equations driven by white noises and Poisson random measures. The results are then used to prove the strong existence of two classes of stochastic flows associated with coalescents with multiple collisions, that is, generalized Fleming--Viot flows and flows of continuous-state branching processes with immigration. One of them unifies the different treatments of three kinds of flows in Bertoin and Le Gall [Ann. Inst. H. Poincaré Probab. Statist. 41 (2005) 3…
In this article we study transformations of Gaussian field by stochastic flow on the plane. A stochastic flow is a solution to the equation with interaction whose coefficients depend on the occupation measure of the field. We consider nonsmooth Gaussian field, which has self-intersection local times of any multiplicity. In the article we prove the existence of self-intersection local times for the transformed field and study its asymptotics.
It is well known that, starting with finite mass, the super-Brownian motion dies out in finite time. The goal of this article is to show that with some additional work, one can prove finite time die-out for two types of systems of stochastic differential equations on the lattice Z^d. Our first system involves the heat equation on the lattice Z^d, with a nonlinear noise term u(t,x)^gamma dB_x(t), with 1/2 <= gamma < 1. The B_x are independent Brownian motions. When gamma = 1/2, the measure which puts mass u(t,x) at x is a super-random walk and it is well-known that the process becomes extinct i…
This paper is concerned with the smoothness (in the sense of Meyer-Watanabe) of the local times of Gaussian random fields. Sufficient and necessary conditions for the existence and smoothness of the local times, collision local times, and self-intersection local times are established for a large class of Gaussian random fields, including fractional Brownian motions, fractional Brownian sheets and solutions of stochastic heat equations driven by space-time Gaussian noise.
We establish a family of isoperimetric inequalities for sets that interpolate between intersection bodies and dual Lp centroid bodies. This provides a bridge between the Busemann intersection inequality and the Lutwak--Zhang inequality. The approach depends on new empirical versions of these inequalities.
Several stochastic processes related to transient Lévy processes with potential densities $u(x,y)=u(y-x)$, that need not be symmetric nor bounded on the diagonal, are defined and studied. They are real valued processes on a space of measures $V$ endowed with a metric $d$. Sufficient conditions are obtained for the continuity of these processes on $(V,d)$. The processes include $n$-fold self-intersection local times of transient Lévy processes and permanental chaoses, which are `loop soup $n$-fold self-intersection local times' constructed from the loop soup of the Lévy process. Loop soups are …
In the first part of this paper we give easy and intuitive proofs for the small value probabilities of the martingale limit of a supercritical Galton-Watson process in both the Schröder and the Böttcher case. These results are well-known, but the most cited proofs rely on generating function arguments which are hard to transfer to other settings. In the second part we show that the strategy underlying our proofs can be used in the quite different context of self-intersections of stochastic processes. Solving a problem posed by Wenbo Li, we find the small value probabilities for intersection lo…
This paper discusses several techniques which may be used for applying the coupling method to solutions of stochastic differential equations (SDEs). They all work in dimension $d\ge 1$, although, in $d=1$ the most natural way is to use intersections of trajectories, which requires nothing but strong Markov property and non-degeneracy of the diffusion coefficient. In dimensions $d>1$ it is possible to use embedded Markov chains either by considering discrete times $n=0,1,\ldots$, or by arranging special stopping time sequences and to use local Markov -- Dobrushin's (MD) condition. Further appli…
We consider the stochastic heat equation with multiplicative noise $u_t={1/2}Δu+ u \diamond \dot{W}$ in $\bR_{+} \times \bR^d$, where $\diamond$ denotes the Wick product, and the solution is interpreted in the mild sense. The noise $\dot W$ is fractional in time (with Hurst index $H \geq 1/2$), and colored in space (with spatial covariance kernel $f$). We prove that if $f$ is the Riesz kernel of order $α$, or the Bessel kernel of order $α<d$, then the sufficient condition for the existence of the solution is $d \leq 2+α$ (if $H>1/2$), respectively $d<2+α$ (if $H=1/2$), whereas if $f$ is the he…
Many known networks have structure of affiliation networks, where each of $n$ network's nodes (actors) selects an attribute set from a given collection of $m$ attributes and two nodes (actors) establish adjacency relation whenever they share a common attribute. We study behaviour of the random walk on such networks. For that purpose we use commonly used model of such networks -- random intersection graph. We establish the cover time of the simple random walk on the binomial random intersection graph ${\cal G}(n,m,p)$ at the connectivity threshold and above it. We consider the range of $n,m,p$ …
The aim of this paper is to study the $d$-dimensional stochastic heat equation with a multiplicative Gaussian noise which is white in space and it has the covariance of a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter $% H\in (0,1)$ in time. Two types of equations are considered. First we consider the equation in the Itô-Skorohod sense, and later in the Stratonovich sense. An explicit chaos development for the solution is obtained. On the other hand, the moments of the solution are expressed in terms of the exponential moments of some weighted intersection local time of the Brownian motion.
Motivated by applications to SPDEs we extend the Itô formula for the square of the norm of a semimartingale $y(t)$ from Gyöngy and Krylov (Stochastics 6(3):153-173, 1982) to the case \begin{equation*} \sum_{i=1}^m \int_{(0,t]} v_i^{\ast}(s)\,dA(s) + h(t)=:y(t)\in V \quad \text{$dA\times \mathbb{P}$-a.e.}, \end{equation*} where $A$ is an increasing right-continuous adapted process, $v_i^{\ast}$ is a progressively measurable process with values in $V_i^{\ast}$, the dual of a Banach space $V_i$, $h$ is a cadlag martingale with values in a Hilbert space $H$, identified with its dual $H^{\ast}$, an…

In this article, we show that the standard vector-valued generalization of a generalized grey Brownian motion (ggBm) has independent components if and only if it is a fractional Brownian motion. In order to extend ggBm with independent components, we introduce a vector-valued generalized grey Brownian motion (vggBm). The characteristic function of the corresponding measure is introduced as the product of the characteristic functions of the one-dimensional case. We show that for this measure, the Appell system and a calculus of generalized functions or distributions are accessible. We character…
Stochastic gradient descent in continuous time (SGDCT) provides a computationally efficient method for the statistical learning of continuous-time models, which are widely used in science, engineering, and finance. The SGDCT algorithm follows a (noisy) descent direction along a continuous stream of data. The parameter updates occur in continuous time and satisfy a stochastic differential equation. This paper analyzes the asymptotic convergence rate of the SGDCT algorithm by proving a central limit theorem (CLT) for strongly convex objective functions and, under slightly stronger conditions, fo…
A planar self-avoiding walk (SAW) is a nearest neighbor random walk path in the square lattice with no self-intersection. A planar self-avoiding polygon (SAP) is a loop with no self-intersection. In this paper we present conjectures for the scaling limit of the uniform measures on these objects. The conjectures are based on recent results on the stochastic Loewner evolution and non-disconnecting Brownian motions. New heuristic derivations are given for the critical exponents for SAWs and SAPs.
