This paper considers the three-parameter exponentiated Weibull family under type II censoring. It first graphically illustrates the shape property of the hazard function. Then, it proposes a simple algorithm for computing the maximum likelihood estimator and derives the Fisher information matrix. The latter one is represented through a single integral in terms of hazard function, hence it solves the problem of computation difficulty in constructing inference for the maximum likelihood estimator. Real data analysis is conducted to illustrate the effect of censoring rate on the maximum likelihood estimation.
In this paper we introduce the exponentiated Weibull power series (EWPS) class of distributions which is obtained by compounding exponentiated Weibull and power series distributions, where the compounding procedure follows same way that was previously carried out by Roman et al. (2010) and Cancho et al. (2011) in introducing the complementary exponential-geometric (CEG) and the two-parameter Poisson-exponential (PE) lifetime distributions, respectively. This distribution contains several lifetime models such as: exponentiated weibull-geometric (EWG), exponentiated weibull-binomial (EWB), expon…
In this paper a new lifetime distribution, which is called the exponentiated Weibull-geometric (EWG) distribution, is introduced. This new distribution obtained by compounding the exponentiated Weibull and geometric distributions. The EWG distribution includes as special cases the generalized exponential-geometric (GEG), complementary Weibull-geometric (CWG), complementary exponential-geometric (CEG), exponentiated Rayleigh-geometric (ERG) and Rayleigh-geometric (RG) distributions. The hazard function of the EWG distribution can be decreasing, increasing, bathtub-shaped and unimodal among othe…
We obtain new mathematical properties of the exponentiated odd log-logistic family of distributions, and of its special case named the exponentiated odd log-logistic Weibull, and its log transformed. A new location and scale regression model is constructed, and some simulations are carried out to verify the behavior of the maximum likelihood estimators, and of the modified deviance-based residuals. The methodology is applied to the Japanese-Brazilian emigration data.
In this paper we propose a new four-parameters distribution with increasing, decreasing, bathtub-shaped and unimodal failure rate, called as the exponentiated Weibull-Poisson (EWP) distribution. The new distribution arises on a latent complementary risk problem base and is obtained by compounding exponentiated Weibull (EW) and Poisson distributions. This distribution contains several lifetime sub-models such as: generalized exponential-Poisson (GEP), complementary Weibull-Poisson (CWP), complementary exponential-Poisson (CEP), exponentiated Rayleigh-Poisson (ERP) and Rayleigh-Poisson (RP) dist…
In this paper, we introduce a new class of bivariate distributions called the bivariate exponentiated extended Weibull distributions. The model introduced here is of Marshall-Olkin type. This new class of bivariate distributions contains several bivariate lifetime models. Some mathematical properties of the new class of distributions are studied. We provide the joint and conditional density functions, the joint cumulative distribution function and the joint survival function. Special bivariate distributions are investigated in some detail. The maximum likelihood estimators are obtained using t…
In this paper, we introduce a new class of distributions by compounding the exponentiated extended Weibull family and power series family. This distribution contains several lifetime models such as the complementary extended Weibull-power series, generalized exponential-power series, generalized linear failure rate-power series, exponentiated Weibull-power series, generalized modified Weibull-power series, generalized Gompertz-power series and exponentiated extended Weibull distributions as special cases. We obtain several properties of this new class of distributions such as Shannon entropy, …
In this paper, we introduce a new bivariate distribution we called it bivariate expo- nentiated modified Weibull extension distribution (BEMWE). The model introduced here is of Marshall-Olkin type. The marginals of the new bivariate distribution have exponentiated modified Weibull extension distribution which proposed by Sarhan et al.(2013). The joint probability density function and the joint cumulative distribu- tion function are in closed forms. Several properties of this distribution have been discussed. The maximum likelihood estimators of the parameters are derived. One real data set are …
In this paper, nonparametric estimation of the conditional Weibull-tail coefficient when the variable of interest is right random censored is addressed. A Weissman-type estimator of conditional extreme quantile is also proposed. In addition, a simulation study is conducted to assess the finite-sample behavior of the proposed estimators and a comparison with alternative strategies is provided. Finally, the practical applicability of the methodology is presented using a real datasets of men suffering from a larynx cancer.
The progressive censoring scheme has received considerable amount of attention in the last fifteen years. During the last few years joint progressive censoring scheme has gained some popularity. Recently, the authors Mondal and Kundu ("A new two sample Type-II progressive censoring scheme", arXiv:1609.05805) introduced a balanced two sample Type-II progressive censoring scheme and provided the exact inference when the two populations are exponentially distributed. In this article we consider the case when the two populations follow Weibull distributions with the common shape parameter and diff…
In this paper, we introduce a new four-parameter generalization of the exponentiated Weibull (EW) distribution, called the exponentiated Weibull-logarithmic (EWL) distribution, which obtained by compounding EW and logarithmic distributions. The new distribution arises on a latent complementary risks scenario, in which the lifetime associated with a particular risk is not observable; rather, we observe only the maximum lifetime value among all risks. The distribution exhibits decreasing, increasing, unimodal and bathtub-shaped hazard rate functions, depending on its parameters and contains seve…
A Hybrid censoring scheme is mixture of Type-I and Type-II censoring schemes. Based on hybrid censored samples, this paper deals with the in- ference on R = P(X > Y ), when X and Y are two independent Weibull distributions with different scale parameters, but having the same shape pa- rameter. The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE), and the approximate MLE (AMLE) of R are obtained. The asymptotic distribution of the maxi- mum likelihood estimator of R is obtained. Based on the asymptotic distribu- tion, the confidence interval of R can be derived. Two bootstrap confidence intervals are also pr…
In the design process of marine structures like offshore wind turbines the long-term distribution of significant wave height needs to be modelled to estimate loads. This is typically done by fitting a translated Weibull distribution to wave data. However, the translated Weibull distribution often fits well at typical values, but poorly at high wave heights such that extreme loads are underestimated. Here, we analyzed wave datasets from six locations suitable for offshore wind turbines. We found that the exponentiated Weibull distribution provides better overall fit to these wave data than the …
We develop two new classes of tests for the Weibull distribution based on Stein's method. The proposed tests are applied in the full sample case as well as in the framework of random right censoring. We investigate the finite sample performance of the new tests using a comprehensive Monte Carlo study. In both the absence and presence of censoring, it is found that the newly proposed classes of tests outperform competing tests against the majority of the distributions considered. In the cases where censoring is present we consider various censoring distributions. Some remarks on the asymptotic …
The Cauchy-Rayleigh (CR) distribution has been successfully used to describe asymmetric and heavy-tail events from radar imagery. Employing such model to describe lifetime data may then seem attractive, but some drawbacks arise: its probability density function does not cover non-modal behavior as well as the CR hazard rate function (hrf) assumes only one form. To outperform this difficulty, we introduce an extended CR model, called exponentiated Cauchy-Rayleigh (ECR) distribution. This model has two parameters and hrf with decreasing, decreasing-increasing-decreasing and upside-down bathtub f…
In this article, we consider the estimation of unknown parameters of Weibull distribution when the lifetime data are observed in the presence of progressively type-I hybrid censoring scheme. The Newton-Raphson algorithm, Expectation-Maximization (EM) algorithm and Stochastic EM (SEM) algorithm are utilized to derive the maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) for the unknown parameters. Moreover, Bayesian estimators using Tierney-Kadane Method and Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method are obtained under three different loss functions, namely, squared error loss (SEL), linear-exponential (LINEX) a…
Handling missing values plays an important role in the analysis of survival data, especially, the ones marked by cure fraction. In this paper, we discuss the properties and implementation of stochastic approximations to the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm to obtain maximum likelihood (ML) type estimates in situations where missing data arise naturally due to right censoring and a proportion of individuals are immune to the event of interest. A flexible family of three parameter exponentiated-Weibull (EW) distributions is assumed to characterize lifetimes of the non-immune individuals a…
The Weibull distribution, with shape parameter $k>0$ and scale parameter $λ>0$, is one of the most popular parametric distributions in survival analysis with complete or censored data. Although inference of the parameters of the Weibull distribution is commonly done through maximum likelihood, it is well established that the maximum likelihood estimate of the shape parameter is inadequate due to the associated large bias when the sample size is small or the proportion of censored data is large. This manuscript demonstrates how the Bayesian information-theoretic minimum message length principle…
We introduce fully nonparametric two-sample tests for testing the null hypothesis that the samples come from the same distribution if the values are only indirectly given via current status censoring. The tests are based on the likelihood ratio principle and allow the observation distributions to be different for the two samples, in contrast with earlier proposals for this situation. A bootstrap method is given for determining critical values and asymptotic theory is developed. A simulation study, using Weibull distributions, is presented to compare the power behavior of the tests with the pow…
The analysis of progressively censored data has received considerable attention in the last few years. In this paper we consider the joint progressive censoring scheme for two populations. It is assumed that the lifetime distribution of the items from the two populations follow Weibull distribution with the same shape but different scale parameters. Based on the joint progressive censoring scheme first we consider the maximum likelihood estimators of the unknown parameters whenever they exist. We provide the Bayesian inferences of the unknown parameters under a fairly general priors on the sha…
Robust Survival Estimation under Interval Censoring: Expectation-Maximization and Bayesian Accelerated Failure Time Assessment via Simulation and Application
We introduce a general, flexible, parametric survival modelling framework which encompasses key shapes of hazard function (constant, increasing, decreasing, up-then-down, down-then-up), various common survival distributions (log-logistic, Burr type XII, Weibull, Gompertz), and includes defective distributions (i.e., cure models). This generality is achieved using four basic distributional parameters: two scale-type parameters and two shape parameters. Generalising to covariate dependence, the scale-type regression components correspond to accelerated failure time (AFT) and proportional hazards…
