We review recent experimental and theoretical developments in inclusive semileptonic B -> Xc l nu decays. In particular, we discuss the determination of |Vcb| and of the heavy quark masses through fits based on the Operator Product Expansion.
We present a measurement of the electron spectrum from inclusive semileptonic {\it B} decay, using 5.1 fb$^{-1}$ of $Υ(4S)$ data collected with the Belle detector. A high-momentum lepton tag was used to separate the semileptonic {\it B} decay electrons from secondary decay electrons. We obtained the branching fraction, ${\cal B}(B\to X e^+ ν) = (10.90 \pm 0.12 \pm 0.49)%$, with minimal model dependence. From this measurement, we derive a value for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cb}| = 0.0408 \pm 0.0010 {\rm (exp)} \pm 0.0025{\rm (th)}$.
We study the effect of dimension 7 and 8 operators on inclusive semileptonic B decays and the extraction of |Vcb|. Using moments of semileptonic B decay spectra and information based on the Lowest-Lying State saturation Approximation (LLSA) we perform a global fit of the nonperturbative parameters of the heavy quark expansion including for the first time the O(1/mb^{4,5}) contributions. Higher power corrections appear to have a very small effect on the extraction of |Vcb|, independently of the weight we attribute to the LLSA.
I report results from the CLEO collaboration on semileptonic B decays, highlighting measurements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements Vcb and Vub. I describe the techniques used to obtain the recent improvements in precision for these measurements, including the use of the b -> s gamma photon spectrum to reduce hadronic uncertainties in semileptonic B decays. I also report new measurements of Vcb using the inclusive semileptonic branching fraction BF(B -> X e nu) and of Vub through study of the q^2 dependence of B -> pi l nu and B -> rho l nu.
I report results from the CLEO collaboration on semileptonic B decays, highlighting measurements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements |Vub| and |Vcb|. I describe the techniques used to obtain the recent improvements in precision for these measurements, notably the use of the b -> s gamma photon spectrum to constrain non-perturbative hadronic effects in semileptonic B decays.
We present a measurement of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element |Vcb| using a 10.2 fb^{-1} data sample recorded at the Υ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric e^+e^- storage ring. By extrapolating the differential decay width of the \bar{B}^0 --> D^{*+}e^-\barν decay to the kinematic limit at which the D^{*+} is at rest with respect to the \bar{B}^0, we extract the product of |Vcb| with the normalization of the decay form factor F(1), |Vcb |F(1)= (3.54+/-0.19+/-0.18)x10^{-2}, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. A value of |Vc…
In this paper, we report on the results of the |Vcb| and |Vub| measurements obtained from studies of inclusive and exclusive semileptonic decays using 30fb^-1 of e^+e^- collision data collected by the Belle detector at KEKB.
Recent results on inclusive and exclusive semileptonic B decays from B-factories are presented. The impact of these measurements on the determination of the CKM matrix elements |Vub| and |Vcb| is discussed.
We present an analysis of the Belle measured moments of the lepton energy and hadronic mass spectra in B -> X_c l nu decays and the photon energy spectrum in B -> X_s gamma decays using theoretical expressions derived in the 1S and kinetic schemes. The magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element Vcb, the b-quark mass and other non-perturbative parameters are extracted. In the 1S scheme analysis we find |Vcb|=(41.49 +/- 0.52(fit) +/- 0.20(tau_B)) x 10^-3 and m_b^{1S}=(4.729 +/- 0.048) GeV. In the kinetic scheme, we obtain |Vcb|=(41.93 +/- 0.65(fit) +/- 0.07(alpha_s) +/- 0.63(th)) …
The present status of the measurement of the semileptonic B decays is reviewed. Emphasis is given on the factors affecting experimental errors of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Masawa matrix element |Vcb | and |Vub |.
Use of semi-leptonic decays has become standard in constraining the Unitarity Triangle. Bearing in mind that precise calculations of these are very challenging, we propose an entirely new approach. In particular the |Vcb| + epsilon_K constraint, which depends extremely sensitively on Vcb in the traditional method, is replaced by the interplay between epsilon_K, BR(B ->tau nu) and Delta M_Bs. It is found that even in this method tensions with the Standard Model persist at the ~1.8 sigma level. Furthermore, improvements on the B -> tau nu branching ratio and on the lattice determination of f_Bs …
We have studied extracting $|\vub/\vcb|$ by calculating the ratios ${\cal B}(\bar{B}^0\to D_s^{(*)-}(π^+,ρ^+))/{\cal B}(\bar{B}^0\to D_s^{(*)-}D^{(*)+})$ including penguin effects within the factorization assumption. The ratios involving $\bar{B}^0\to D_s^-D^{+}$ mode have considerable penguin corrections ($\sim 15%$ at the amplitude level), but those involving $\bar{B}^0\to D_s^-D^{*+}$ mode have relatively small penguin corrections. On the other hand, the $\bar{B}^0\to D_s^-D^{+}$ mode has smaller form-factor dependance. Therefore, these ratios complement each other in measuring $\vub/\vcb$.…
We present the measurements of the CKM matrix parameters Vub, Vcb and of the B mixing oscillation frequency with the BaBar experiment at the asymmetric B-factory PEPII. Data were collected in the years 2000-2002 and the total available statistics corresponds to 91 fb-1. The Vub, Vcb measurements utilize both inclusive and exclusive semileptonic decays of the $B$ meson. The Delta(md) parameter is measured by using the time evolution of the B, determined from the flight length difference between the two B mesons.
The ratio of the CKM quark-mixing matrix elements |Vub|/|Vcb| has been measured using B hadron semileptonic decays. The analysis uses the reconstructed mass M_X of the secondary hadronic system produced in association with an identified lepton. Since B -> X_u lepton anti-nu transitions are characterised by hadronic masses below those of the D mesons produced in B -> X_c lepton anti-nu transitions, events with a reconstructed value of M_X significantly below the D mass are selected. Further signal enrichments are obtained using the topology of reconstructed decays and hadron identification. A f…
BaBar measurements involving semileptonic decays of B mesons are reviewed. Attention is focused on the extraction of |Vub| and |Vcb| elements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa quark mixing matrix. Recent results of inclusive and exclusive approaches are presented.
The inclusive direct and cascade semileptonic branching ratios of the b quark were measured from a fit to the lepton momentum spectrum in the B-hadron rest frame, exploiting the charge correlation between the lepton and the heavy meson. The value of the Vcb element in the CKM quark mixing matrix was computed from the differential decay width of the process B0--> D+-* l- nu, measured as a function of the product W of the B and D* 4-velocities, using an inclusive method of D* reconstruction. A measurement of the ratio Vub/Vcb has been obtained by using the reconstructed secondary hadronic mass i…
Recent results on inclusive and exclusive semileptonic B decays from B Factories are presented. The status and perspectives of the determination of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb with semileptonic B decays is discussed.
Data from Z decays in DELPHI have been searched for anti-B0d -> D*+ l- anti-nu_l with the D*+ decaying to D0 pi+ and D0 -> K- pi+, K- pi+ pi+ pi- or K- pi+ (pi0). These events are used to measure the CKM matrix element |V_cb| and the form factor slope, rho_{A_1}^2: F_D*(1)|Vcb| = 0.0392 +/- 0.0018 +/- 0.0023; rho_{A_1}^2 = 1.32 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.33 corresponding to a branching fraction: BR(anti-B0d -> D*+ l- anti-nu_l) = (5.90 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.50)%. Combining these and previous DELPHI measurements gives: F_D*(1)|Vcb| = 0.0377 +/- 0.0011 +/- 0.0019, rho_{A_1}^2 = 1.39 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.33 and BR(anti-B…
A review of recent analyses on semileptonic decays of B mesons into charmed final states is given. |Vcb| is extracted both by the Babar and the Belle collaboration from their datasets using inclusively and exclusively reconstructed final states. In addition there are recent results on the determination of exclusive branching fractions to the ground states D and D*, as well as to excited D** states. Those play an important role in understanding the composition of the total decay width. They represent also a sizable fraction of the backgrounds for exclusive analyses and are presented here as wel…
I report on studies of inclusive and exclusive semileptonic b -> c l nu and b -> u l nu decays in 9.7 million BBbar events accumulated with the CLEO detector in symmetric e^+e^- collisions produced in the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR). Various experimental techniques, including the study of spectral moments and the inference of neutrino candidates by exploiting the hermeticity of the CLEO detector, are used in conjunction with theoretical calculations to provide estimates of the CKM matrix elements |Vcb| and |Vub|.
We determine the inclusive B --> Xc l nu branching fraction, the CKM matrix element |Vcb|, and other heavy-quark parameters from a simultaneous fit to moments of the hadronic-mass and lepton-energy distributions in semileptonic B-meson decays, measured as a function of the lower limit on the lepton energy, using data recorded with the BABAR detector. Using Heavy Quark Expansions (HQEs) to order 1/mb^3, we extract BR_cenu=(10.61 +- 0.16(exp) +- 0.06(HQE))% and |Vcb| = (41.4 +- 0.4(exp) +- 0.4(HQE) +- 0.6(th)) 10^-3. The stated errors refer to the experimental, HQE, and additional theoretical un…
Studies of semileptonic decays of b hadrons with the LHCb experiment are reported. In particular, measurements of the b hadron production fractions at the LHC and Bs semileptonic decays in P-wave charmed mesons are presented. An outlook of the LHCb potential in measuring the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb, as well as decays involving taus, is given.
Recent analyses of the LEP and Y(4S) data have better outlined the picture of semileptonic B decays. Results on inclusive and exclusive decay branching fractions and on the extraction of the Vub and Vcb elements of the CKM mixing matrix are discussed, together with some of the still open questions and the sources of model systematics.
The determination of |Vub| from inclusive semileptonic B decays is limited by uncertainties in modelling the decay distributions in b->ulnu transitions. The largest uncertainties arise from the limited knowledge of the appropriate b quark mass and Fermi momentum to use in the parameterization of the shape function. This paper presents a new method in which these shape function parameters are constrained by the same data used to measure |Vub|. The method requires measurements of the momenta of both the charged lepton and the neutrino in semileptonic B decays. From these quantities two complemen…
In this work we study the effects of New Physics (NP) operators on the inclusive $\bar{B} \to X_c τ^- \barν_τ$ decay including power $(\mathcal{O}(1/m_b^2))$ corrections in the NP operators. In analogy with $R(D^{(*)})$ observables, we study the observable $R(X_c)=\frac{\mathcal{B}(\bar{B} \to X_c τ^- \barν_τ)}{\mathcal{B}(\bar{B} \to X_c \ell^- \barν_\ell)}$. We present some numerical results for $R(X_c)$ and compare the results for this observable with and without power corrections in the NP contributions.
We present a measurement of the branching fraction for the semileptonic B decay Bbar -> D+l-nubar, where l- can be either an electron or a muon. We find Gamma(Bbar -> D+l-nubar)= (13.79+/-0.76+/-2.51) ns^{-1}, and the resulting branching fraction Br(Bbar -> D+l-nubar)= (2.13 +/- 0.12 +/- 0.39)%, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic. We also investigate the Bbar -> D+l-nubar form factor and the implications of the result for |Vcb|. From a fit to the differential decay distribution we obtain the rate normalization |Vcb|F_D(1)= (4.11+/-0.44+/-0.52)x10^{-2}. Using a theor…
We perform global fits to the moments of semileptonic B decay distributions and extract |V_cb|, the heavy quark masses, and the non-perturbative parameters of the heavy quark expansion. We include NNLO perturbative corrections and recent determinations of the charm mass, and discuss how they improve the precision of the global fit. In particular, using the m_c determination of Ref.[11] we get m_b^kin=4.541(23) GeV and |V_cb|=(42.42+- 0.86) 10^{-3}. We also discuss the implications of the new fits for the normalization of rare B decays, the zero-recoil sum rule in B-> D* l nu, and the inclusive…
We present a fit to measured moments of inclusive distributions in B->Xc lv and B-> Xs gamma decays to extract values for the CKM matrix element |Vcb|, the b- and c-quark masses, and higher order parameters that appear in the Heavy Quark Expansion. The fit is carried out using theoretical calculations in the kinetic scheme and includes moment measurements of the Babar, Belle, CDF, CLEO and DELPHI collaborations for which correlation matrices have been published. We find |Vcb| = (41.96 +- 0.23(exp) +- 0.35(HQE) +- 0.59(Gamma_SL)) 10^-3 and m_b = 4.590 +- 0.025(exp) +- 0.30(HQE) GeV where errors…
Recent progress in flavor physics is discussed. In particular, I review theoretical and experimental developments relevant for semileptonic B decays and the determination of |Vcb| and |Vub|, for exclusive rare decays, for nonleptonic b->c decays and tests of factorization, and for D meson mixing.
The magnitude of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element Vcb has been measured using B0 to D*l nu decays recorded on the Z0 peak using the OPAL detector at LEP. The D* to D0 pi+ decays were reconstructed both in the particular decay modes D0 to K- pi+ and D0 to K- pi+ pi- and via an inclusive technique. The product of |Vcb| and the decay form factor of the B0 to D* l nu transition at zero recoil F(1) was measured to be F(1)|Vcb| = (37.1+-1.0+-2.0)x10^-3, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic respectively. By using Heavy Quark Effective Theory calculations for F(1), a valu…
I report B physics results from the CLEO collaboration, highlighting measurements of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements |Vcb| and |Vub|. I report a recent measurement of |Vub| through study of the q^2 dependence of B -> pi l nu and B -> rho l nu. I also describe new measurements of the inclusive semileptonic branching fraction BF(B -> X e nu) and of moments of the hadronic invariant mass spectrum in B -> X l nu, with impact on |Vcb|.
Inclusive semileptonic decays of beauty baryons are studied using the heavy quark expansion to ${\cal O}(1/m_b^3)$, at leading order in $α_s$. The case of a polarized decaying baryon is examined, with reference to $Λ_b$. An extension of the Standard Model effective Hamiltonian inducing $b \to U \ell {\bar ν}_ \ell$ transitions ($U=u,\,c$ and $\ell=e,\,μ,\,τ$) is considered, which comprises the full set of D=6 semileptonic operators with left-handed neutrinos. The effects of the new operators in several observables are described.
We estimate the heavy quark effective theory parameter λ_1 from inclusive semileptonic B-meson decay spectrum. By using recent CLEO double lepton tagging data of B -> X e nu, which shows the lepton momentum as low as 0.6 GeV, we extracted λ_1 \sim -0.58 GeV^2. We also derived \barΛ\sim 0.46 GeV and |V_{cb}| = 0.041 \pm 0.002.
The present status of the measurement of the inclusive semileptonic $B$ decays is reviewed. In particular the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements $|V_{cb}|$ and $|V_{ub}|$ is discussed and some future prospects are given.
We present results on semileptonic B decays obtained with the BABAR detector. The large data set accumulated at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-Factory allows a new measurement technique, where the hadronic decay of one B meson is fully reconstructed and the semileptonic decay of the recoiling B meson is studied. Traditional analysis techniques of inclusive and exclusive B decays complement this approach with very high statistics data samples. These measurements play an important role in the tests of the description of CP violation in the Standard Model: The determinations of the Cabibbo-Kobaya…
We present measurements of the inclusive semileptonic branching fractions of charged and neutral B mesons using 20.6 fb-1 of data measured at the Upsilon(4S) with the BABAR detector. Events are tagged with a fully reconstructed hadronic decay of a B meson. The correlation between the flavor of the tag B meson and the electron charge allows the separation of prompt semileptonic B decays and cascade semileptonic charm decays. We obtain the preliminary inclusive semileptonic branching fraction of charged B mesons b+ = 0.103+/-0.006+/-0.005, neutral B mesons b0 = 0.104+/-0.008+/-0.005, their avera…
We report updates on two analyses of inclusive semileptonic B decays based on a dataset of 89 million BB events recorded with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. Events are selected by fully reconstructing the decay of one B meson and identifying a charged lepton from the decay of the other B meson. In the first analysis, the measurement of the first and second moment of the hadronic mass distribution in Cabibbo-favored B ->X_c l nu decays allows for the determination of the nonperturbative parameters $\barΛ$ and $λ_1$ of Heavy Quark Effective Theory (HQET) and |Vcb|. In the second anal…
Global fits to moments of kinematic distributions measured in inclusive semileptonic $B\rightarrow X_c l ν_l$ enable the determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element $|V_{cb}|$ together with non-perturbative matrix elements of the heavy quark expansion. In current fits, only two distinct kinematic distributions are employed and, as a consequence, higher moments of these distributions need to be taken into account to extract the relevant non-perturbative matrix elements. The moments of a given distribution are highly correlated and experimental uncertainties increase for higher…
We study the exclusive semileptonic B meson decays B- -> D*0 l- nu and B0 -> D*+ l- nu using data collected with the CLEO II detector at CESR. We present measurements of the branching fractions B(B0 -> D*+ l-nu) = 0.5/f00* [4.49+/-0.32+/-0.39]% and B(B- -> D*0 l-nu) = 0.5/f+-*[5.13+/-0.54+/-0.64]%, where f00 and f+- are the neutral and charged B meson production fractions at the Upsilon(4s) resonance. Assuming isospion invariance and taking the charged to neutral B meson lifetimes measured at higher energy machines, we determine the ratio f+-/f00=1.04+/-0.14+/-0.13+-/-0.10; further assuming f+…
We compute the $O(α_s)$ corrections to the Wilson coefficient of the chromomagnetic operator in inclusive semileptonic B decays. The results are employed to evaluate the complete $O(α_s Λ^2/m_b^2)$ correction to the semileptonic width and to the first moments of the lepton energy distribution.
A largely model-independent measurement of the inclusive electron momentum spectrum and branching fraction for semileptonic decays of B mesons is presented based on data recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector. Backgrounds from secondary charm decays are separated from prompt B decays using charge and angular correlations between the electron from one B meson and a high momentum electron tag from the second B meson. The resulting branching fraction is BR(B -> X e nu) = (10.87 +-0.18(stat)+-0.30(syst))%. Based on this measurement we determine the CKM matrix element |V_cb|.
We present the partial branching fraction for inclusive charmless semileptonic B decays and the corresponding value of the CKM matrix element |Vub|, using a multivariate analysis method to access ~90% of the B -> Xu l nu phase space. This approach dramatically reduces the theoretical uncertainties from the b-quark mass and non-perturbative QCD compared to all previous inclusive measurements. The results are based on a sample of 657 million B -Bbar pairs collected with the Belle detector. We find that Delta BR(B -> Xu l nu; p^*B_l>1.0 GeV/c=1.963 x (1 +/- 0.088(stat.) +/- 0.081(sys.)) x 10^-3. …
We search for signals of Weak Annihilation in inclusive semileptonic D decays. We consider both the widths and the lepton energy moments, which are quite sensitive probes. Our analysis of Cleo data shows no clear evidence of Weak Annihilation, and allows us to put bounds on their relevance in charmless B semileptonic decays.
A measurement of the first four moments of the hadronic mass distribution in B->Xc lv decays is presented for minimum lepton momenta varying between 0.9 and 1.6 GeV, using data recorded with the BaBar detector. Furthermore, a measurement of the inclusive electron energy spectrum for semileptonic B decays together with a measurement of its first, second and third moments for minimum electron energies between 0.6 and 1.5 GeV is reported. We determine the inclusive B->Xc lv branching fraction, B_clv, the CKM matrix element |V_cb|, and other heavy-quark parameters from a simultaneous fit to the me…
We report a measurement of the inclusive charmless semileptonic branching fraction of B mesons in a sample of 89 million BBbar events recorded with the BABAR detector at the Y(4S) resonance. Events are selected by fully reconstructing the decay of one B meson and identifying a charged lepton from the decay of the other B meson. The number of signal events is extracted from the hadronic mass distribution and is used to determine the ratio of branching fractions BR(B->Xulnu)/BR(B->Xlnu) = (2.06 +/-0.25(stat) +/-0.23(syst) +/-0.36(theo)) x 10^{-2}. Using the measured branching fraction for inclus…
With singly-tagged $\bar D$ samples selected from the data collected at and around 3.773 GeV with the BESII detector at the BEPC collider, we have measured the branching fractions for the inclusive $K^\pm$ decays of $D^+$ and $D^0$ mesons, which are $BF(D^+\to K^-X) = (24.7 \pm 1.3 \pm 1.2)%$, $BF(D^+\to K^+X) = (6.1 \pm 0.9 \pm 0.4) %$, $BF(D^0\to K^-X) = (57.8 \pm 1.6 \pm 3.2) %$ and $BF(D^0\to K^+X) = (3.5 \pm 0.7 \pm 0.3) %$, respectively. We have also measured the branching fractions for the inclusive semileptonic decays of $D^+$ and $D^0$ mesons to be $BF(D^+ \to e^+ X)=(15.2 \pm 0.9 \pm…
A measurement of the inclusive semileptonic branching ratios of b hadrons produced in Z decay is presented, using four million hadronic events collected by the ALEPH detector from 1991 to 1995. Electrons and muons are selected opposite to b-tagged hemispheres. Two different methods are explored to distinguish the contributions from direct $\bl$ and cascade $\bcl$ decays to the total lepton yield. One is based on the lepton transverse momentum spectrum, the other makes use of the correlation between the charge of the lepton and charge estimators built from tracks in the opposite hemisphere of t…
We report a new measurement of the B-meson semileptonic decay momentum spectrum that has been made with a sample of 9.4/fb of electron-positron annihilation data collected with the CLEO II detector at the Y(4S) resonance. Electrons from primary semileptonic decays and secondary charm decays were separated by using charge and angular correlations in Y(4S) events with a high-momentum lepton and an additional electron. We determined the semileptonic branching fraction to be (10.91 +- 0.09 +- 0.24)% from the normalization of the electron-energy spectrum. We also measured the moments of the electro…
We report a measurement of the branching fraction of inclusive semileptonic $B$ meson decays $B\to X_c\ellν\ell$ in $Υ(4S)\to B\bar B$~data recorded by the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider and corresponding to 62.8 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity. Only a charged lepton (electon or muon) is reconstructed and the signal yield is determined from a fit to the lepton momentum distribution in the center-of-mass frame of the colliding beams. Averaging the result in the electron and muon channels, we find ${\cal B}(B\to X_c\ellν_\ell) = (9.75\pm 0.03(\text{st…
A preliminary result on the study of the inclusive electron spectrum in B -> X_u e nu decays above the kinematic limit for the dominant B -> X_c e nu transitions is presented. This study is performed at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory, where B meson pairs are produced in the decay of the Upsilon(4S) resonance. For the electron momentum range of 2.3 - 2.6 GeV/c in the Upsilon(4S) rest frame, the partial branching ratio is measured to be Delta B(B -> X_u e nu)=(0.152+-0.014+-0.014) 10^{-3}.
We report two novel determinations of |Vub| with reduced model dependence, based on measurements of the mass distribution of the hadronic system in semileptonic B decays. Events are selected by fully reconstructing the decay of one B meson and identifying a charged lepton from the decay of the other B meson from Y(4S) to BBbar events. In one approach, we combine the inclusive B to X_u l nu rate, integrated up to a maximum hadronic mass m_X < 1.67GeV, with a measurement of the inclusive B to X_s gamma photon energy spectrum. We obtain |Vub| = (4.43 +- 0.38stat +- 0.25syst +- 0.29theo)*10^-3. In…
We report a new measurement of the CKM parameter V_ub made with a sample of 9.7 million B B-bar events collected with the CLEO II detector. Using Heavy Quark theory, we combine the observed yield of leptons from semileptonic B decay in the end-point momentum interval 2.2-2.6 GeV/c with recent CLEO II data on B --> X_s gamma to find |V_ub| = (4.08 +/- 0.34 +/- 0.44 +/- 0.16 +/- 0.24) x 10^-3, where the first two uncertainties are experimental and the last two are from theory.
We present an analysis of the composition of inclusive semileptonic B meson decays using 9.4/fb of e+ e- data taken with the CLEO detector at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. In addition to measuring the charged lepton kinematics, the neutrino 4-vector is inferred using the hermeticity of the detector. We perform a maximum likelihood fit over the full three-dimensional differential decay distribution for the fractional contributions from the B -> Xc l nu processes with Xc = D, D*, D**, and non-resonant Xc, and the process B -> Xu l nu. From the fit results we extract |V_ub|= (4.05 +- 0.18 +- 0.58 +-…
We present a preliminary determination of the CKM matrix element |Vub| based on the analysis of semileptonic B decays from a sample of 88 million Upsilon(4S) decays collected with the BaBar detector at the e+e- storage ring. Charmless semileptonic B decays are selected using the electron energy E_e and the invariant mass q^2 of the electron-neutrino pair. The neutrino momentum is inferred from a measurement of the visible energy and momentum in the detector and knowledge of the e+e- beam momenta. The partial branching fraction is determined in a region of the q^2-E_e plane where semileptonic B…
We report a measurement of the first and second moment of the hadronic mass distribution M_X in B -> X_c l nu decays for lepton threshold momenta ranging from 0.9 to 1.6 GeV/c in the center of mass frame. The measurement uses B Bbar events in which the hadronic decay of one B meson is fully reconstructed and a charged lepton from the decay of the other B meson is identified. These results are obtained from a 140 fb^-1 data sample collected near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e^+ e^- collider.
