In \cite{[K]}, Kaimanovich defined an augmented rooted tree $(X, E)$ corresponding to the Sierpinski gasket $K$, and showed that the Martin boundary of the simple random walk $\{Z_n\}$ on it is homeomorphic to $K$. It is of interest to determine the hitting distributions $v_{\bf x}(\cdot) = {\mathbb{P}}_{\bf x}\{\lim_{n \rightarrow \infty} Z_n \in \cdot\}$ induced on $K$. Using a reflection principle based on the symmetries of $K$, we show that if the walk starts at the root of $(X, E)$, the hitting distribution is exactly the normalized Hausdorff measure $μ$ on $K$. In particular, each $v_{\bf x}$, ${\bf x} \in X$, is absolutely continuous with respect to $μ$. This answers a question of Kaimanovich [K, Problem 4.14]. The argument can be generalized to other symmetric self-similar sets.
We give an elementary self-contained proof of the fact that the walk dimension of the Brownian motion on an arbitrary generalized Sierpiński carpet is greater than two, no proof of which in this generality had been available in the literature. Our proof is based solely on the self-similarity and hypercubic symmetry of the associated Dirichlet form and on several very basic pieces of functional analysis and the theory of regular symmetric Dirichlet forms. We also present an application of this fact to the singularity of the energy measures with respect to the canonical self-similar measure (uni…
We consider the discrete time quantum random walks on a Sierpinski gasket. We study the hitting probability as the level of fractal goes to infinity in terms of their localization exponents $β_w$ , total variation exponents $δ_w$ and relative entropy exponents $η_w$ . We define and solve the amplitude Green functions recursively when the level of the fractal graph goes to infinity. We obtain exact recursive formulas for the amplitude Green functions, based on which the hitting probabilities and expectation of the first-passage time are calculated. Using the recursive formula with the aid of Mo…
Internal diffusion limited aggregation (IDLA) is a random aggregation model on a graph $G$, whose clusters are formed by random walks started in the origin (some fixed vertex) and stopped upon visiting a previously unvisited site. On the Sierpinski gasket graph the asymptotic shape is known to be a ball in the usual graph metric. In this paper we establish bounds for the fluctuations of the cluster from its asymptotic shape.
Internal diffusion-limited aggregation (IDLA) is a stochastic growth model on a graph $G$ which describes the formation of a random set of vertices growing from the origin (some fixed vertex) of $G$. Particles start at the origin and perform simple random walks; each particle moves until it lands on a site which was not previously visited by other particles. This random set of occupied sites in $G$ is called the IDLA cluster. In this paper we consider IDLA on Sierpinski gasket graphs, and show that the IDLA cluster fills balls (in the graph metric) with probability 1.
Given a probability measure on a finitely generated group, its Martin boundary is a way to compactify the group using the Green's function of the corresponding random walk. We give a complete topological characterization of the Martin boundary of finitely supported random walks on relatively hyperbolic groups with virtually abelian parabolic subgroups. In particular, in the case of nonuniform lattices in the real hyperbolic space H n , we show that the Martin boundary coincides with the CAT (0) boundary of the truncated space, and thus when n = 3, is homeomorphic to the Sierpinski carpet.
We prove Barlow--Bass type resistance estimates for two random walks associated with repeated barycentric subdivisions of a triangle. If the random walk jumps between the centers of triangles in the subdivision that have common sides, the resistance scales as a power of a constant $ρ$ which is theoretically estimated to be in the interval $5/4\leqslantρ\leqslant3/2$, with a numerical estimate $ρ\approx1.306$. This corresponds to the theoretical estimate of spectral dimension $d_S$ between 1.63 and 1.77, with a numerical estimate $d_S\approx1.74$. On the other hand, if the random walk jumps bet…
We consider a class of discrete-time random walks with directed unit steps on the integer line. The direction of the steps is reversed at the time instants of events in a discrete-time renewal process and is maintained at uneventful time instants. This model represents a discrete-time semi-Markovian generalization of the telegraph process. We derive exact formulae for the propagator using generating functions. We prove that for geometrically distributed waiting times in the diffusive limit, this walk converges to the classical telegraph process. We consider the large-time asymptotics of the ex…
We consider a discrete-time random motion, Markov chain on the Poincaré disk. In the basic variant of the model a particle moves along certain circular arcs within the disk, its location is determined by a composition of random Möbius transformations. We exploit an isomorphism between the underlying group of Möbius transformations and $\rr$ to study the random motion through its relation to a one-dimensional random walk. More specifically, we show that key geometric characteristics of the random motion, such as Busemann functions and bipolar coordinates evaluated at its location, and hyperboli…
We extend our study of random walks and induced Dirichlet forms on self-similar sets [arXiv:1604.05440, 1612.01708] to compact spaces of homogeneous type $(K, ρ,μ)$. A successive partition on $K$ brings a natural augmented tree structure $(X, E)$ that is Gromov hyperbolic, and the hyperbolic boundary is Hölder equivalent to $K$. We then introduce a class of transient reversible random walks on $(X, E)$ with return ratio $λ$. Using Silverstein's theory of Markov chains, we prove that the random walk induces an energy form on $K$ with $$ {\mathcal E}_K [u] \asymp \iint_{K\times K \setminus Δ} \f…
We define a correlated random walk (CRW) induced from the time evolution matrix (the Grover matrix) of the Grover walk on a graph $G$, and present a formula for the characteristic polynomial of the transition probability matrix of this CRW by using a determinant expression for the generalized weighted zeta function of $G$. As applications, we give the spectrum of the transition probability matrices for the CRWs induced from the Grover matrices of regular graphs and semiregular bipartite graphs. Furthermore, we consider another type of the CRW on a graph.
We consider a transitive action of a finitely generated group $G$ and the Schreier graph $Γ$ defined by this action for some fixed generating set. For a probability measure $μ$ on $G$ with a finite first moment we show that if the induced random walk is transient, it converges towards the space of ends of $Γ$. As a corollary we obtain that for a probability measure with a finite first moment on Thompson's group $F$, the support of which generates $F$ as a semigroup, the induced random walk on the dyadic numbers has a non-trivial Poisson boundary. Some assumption on the moment of the measure is…
In a previous paper [arXiv:1604.05440], we studied certain random walks on the hyperbolic graphs $X$ associated with the self-similar sets $K$, and showed that the discrete energy ${\mathcal E}_X$ on $X$ has an induced energy form ${\mathcal E}_K$ on $K$ that is a Gagliardo-type integral. The domain of ${\mathcal E}_K$ is a Besov space $Λ^{α, β/2}_{2,2}$ where $α$ is the Hausdorff dimension of $K$ and $β$ is a parameter determined by the "return ratio" of the random walk. In this paper, we study the functional relationship of ${\mathcal E}_X$ and ${\mathcal E}_K$. In particular, we investigate…
