We review an analysis of a consistent renormalization of the top and bottom quark/squark sector of the MSSM with complex parameters (cMSSM). Various renormalization schemes are defined, analyzed analytically and tested numerically in the decays Stop_2 -> Sbottom_i H^+/W^+ (i = 1,2). No scheme is found that produces numerically acceptable results over all the cMSSM parameter space, where problems occur mostly already for real parameters. Some numerical examples for Gamma(Stop_2 -> Sbottom_1 H^+) in our preferred scheme, "m_b, A_b DRbar" are shown.
We study the decays of top squarks and bottom squarks in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model with complex parameters A_t, A_b and mu. In a large region of the supersymmetric parameter space the branching ratios of stop_1 and sbottom_1 show a pronounced phase dependence. This could have an important impact on the search for stop_1 and sbottom_1 at a future linear collider and on the determination of the supersymmetric parameters.
The first chapter serves as an introduction to the MSSM. I briefly review the model and explain why stops and sbottoms provide an interesting playground for exploring and testing this model. In the second chapter I discuss stop and sbottom production at lepton colliders. I give the analytical formulae for the production cross sections at e+e- and mu+mu- colliders including (general) beam polarization. A numerical analysis shows the cross sections that can be expected at LEP2, an e+e- Linear Collider, and a Muon Collider. In particular, I address the topics of what can be gained by using polari…
In the framework of minimal supersymmetric model we examine the Z-peak constraints on the scenario of one light sbottom (2--5.5 GeV) and light gluino (12--16 GeV), which has been successfully used to explain the excess of bottom quark production in hadron collision. Such a scenario is found to be severely constrained by LEP Z-peak observables, especially by R_b, due to the large effect of gluino-sbottom loops. To account for the R_b data in this scenario, the other mass eigenstate of sbottom, i.e., the heavier one, must be lighter than 125 (195) GeV at 2-sigma (3-sigma) level, which should hav…
We present numerical predictions for the decay branching ratios of the heavier stop and sbottom mass eigenstates. We estimate the precision to be expected for the determination of the underlying supersymmetry parameters of the stop and sbottom systems.
We perform a detailed study of the decays of the heavier top and bottom squarks (stop_2 and sbottom_2) in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We show that the decays into Higgs or gauge bosons can be dominant in a wide range of the model parameters due to the large Yukawa couplings and mixings of stops and sbottoms. Compared to the conventional decays into fermions these bosonic decay modes can have significantly different decay structures and distributions. This could have an important impact on the search for stop_2 and sbottom_2 and the determination of the MSSM parameters at …
We study the processes `gluon gluon -> squark antisquark CP-odd Higgs' within the theoretical framework of the Supergravity (SUGRA) inspired Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) at the leading order (LO) in perturbative Quantum Chromo-Dynamics (QCD). Other than constituting a novel production mechanism of the neutral, CP-odd Higgs particle, they also allow one to relate the size of the corresponding production rates to the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs fields tan(beta), to the trilinear couplings A_0 and to the sign of the Higgsino mass term sign(mu). This int…
We discuss pair production and decays of stops, sbottoms, $τ$-sneutrinos, and staus in $e^+e^-$ annihilation in the energy range $\sqrt{s} = 500 GeV$ to 2 TeV. Numerical predictions within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) for cross sections and decay rates are presented. We study the stop discovery potential for $\sqrt{s} = 500 GeV$ and $10 \fb^{-1}$ integrated luminosity for polarized e^- beams. Moreover, we give an estimate of the error of the soft-breaking stop and sbottom parameters that can be obtained by cross section measurements with polarized e^- beams.
We calculate within the MSSM the one-loop Yukawa coupling corrections to the processes e+ e- \to stops, sbottoms, and staus in order of Yukawa coupling squared. These corrections are due to the exchange of charginos, neutralinos, charged and neutral Higgs bosons, and charged and neutral Higgs ghosts. We give the complete analytical formulae. We also perform a detailed numerical analysis of the Yukawa coupling corrections, including also the SUSY-QCD corrections. It turns out that for stop and sbottom production the Yukawa coupling corrections are typically +/- 10% of the tree-level cross secti…
We calculate the order(α_s) SUSY-QCD corrections to the widths of stop and sbottom decays into Higgs bosons within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We give the complete analytical formulae paying particular attention to the on-shell renormalization of the soft SUSY-breaking parameters. We also perform a detailed numerical analysis of both stop and sbottom decays into all Higgs bosons h^0, H^0, A^0, and H^\pm. We find that the SUSY-QCD corrections are significant, mostly negative and of the order of a few ten percent.
We calculate the supersymmetric ${\cal O}(α_s)$ QCD corrections to stop and sbottom decays into vector bosons within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We give analytic formulae and perform a numerical analysis of these decays. We find that SUSY-QCD corrections to the decay widths are typically -5% to -10% depending on the squark masses, squark mixing angles, and the gluino mass.
We present a phenomenological analysis of production and decays of stops, sbottoms, and staus in e+e- collisions with sqrt(s) = 500 - 800 GeV. We include SUSY-QCD and Yukawa coupling corrections as well as initial state radiation. We show that e- beam polarization is a powerful tool for a determination of the underlying SUSY parameters. Using in addition a polarized e+ beam improves the precision of the parameter determination by about 25%.
We compute the O(ab*as) two-loop corrections to the neutral Higgs boson masses in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model, using the effective potential approach. Such corrections can be important in the region of parameter space corresponding to tan(beta)>>1 and sizeable mu. In spite of the formal analogy with the O(at*as) corrections, there are important differences, since the dominant effects are controlled by the sbottom-Higgs scalar couplings. We propose a convenient renormalization scheme that avoids unphysically large threshold effects associated with the bottom mass, and absorbs the …
We present a comprehensive study of pair production and decay of stops, sbottoms, and staus in $e^+ e^-$ annihilation at LEP2. We give numerical predictions within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model for cross sections and decay rates, and discuss the important signatures. In the case of stau production we also study the polarization of the tau in the decays stau_1 -> tau + neutralino_{1,2}.
We have computed the one-loop electroweak expression of diagonal and non diagonal stop-antistop and sbottom-antisbottom production from initial state gluons at LHC. We have investigated the possibility that the one-loop effects exhibit a dependence on "extra" supersymmetric parameters different from the final squark masses. Our results, given for a choice of twelve SUSY benchmark points in the MSSM with mSUGRA symmetry breaking, show that in some cases a mild dependence might arise, at the percent relative level, of not simple experimental detection.
We discuss production and decays of stops, sbottoms, tau-sneutrinos, and staus in e+e- annihilation in the energy range \sqrt{s} = 0.5-1 TeV. We present numerical predictions within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model for cross sections and decay rates, including one-loop radiative corrections as well as initial state radiation. We also study the importance of beam polarization for the determination of the underlying SUSY parameters. Moreover, we make a comparison of the potential to study squarks and sleptons of the 3rd generation between Tevatron, LHC, and Linear Collider.
We discuss pair production and decays of stops, sbottoms, and staus in $e^+e^-$ annihilation in the energy range $\sqrt{s}$ = 500 GeV to 2 TeV. We present numerical predictions within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model for cross sections and decay rates. We study the stop discovery potential for $\sqrt{s}$ = 500 GeV and $10~\fb^{-1}$ integrated luminosity with full statistics background simulation.
In supersymmetric theories, there is a scalar quartic related to the top and bottom yukawas that gives LHC observable decays of the stop or sbottom. After electroweak symmetry breaking, this quartic induces the decay of the stop (sbottom) to a charged Higgs and the sbottom (stop) without allowing for the corresponding channel involving the W boson. Unlike other scalar quartics, this scalar quartic is measurable at the LHC and for compressed spectra may even be the discovery channel for the stop or sbottom. Observing this decay and measuring the value of the quartic interaction would give direc…
In this work, we study the constraints on the scenario of light stops and sbottoms in the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM), especially by a 125 GeV Higgs boson discovery and the LHC bounds on supersymmetry. The constraints from dark matter detections are also taken into account. From the parameter scan, we find that the NMSSM can well accommodate a light Higgs boson around 125 GeV and decay patterns. We would like to stress that the LHC direct supersymmetry searches with b-tagging are very powerful and can set strong bounds on many NMSSM parameter points with light stops a…
We study the decays of top squarks (stop_{1,2}) and bottom squarks (sbottom_{1,2}) in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with complex parameters A_t, A_b, mu and M_1. We show that including the corresponding phases substantially affects the branching ratios of stop_{1,2} and sbottom_{1,2} decays in a large domain of the MSSM parameter space. We find that the branching ratios can easily change by a factor of 2 and more when varying the phases. This could have an important impact on the search for stop_{1,2} and sbottom_{1,2} and the determination of the MSSM parameters at future c…
We consider a scenario of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with $R$-parity violation, where the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) is the lighter sbottom $(\tilde b_1)$. We study the production of a sbottom pair at the LHC and their subsequent decays through the baryon number violating $(U D D)$ operators leading to a top pair with two light quarks. Looking for both semi-leptonic and fully hadronic (no leptons) final states, we perform cut-based as well as multivariate analyses (MVA) to estimate the signal significance at the 13 TeV run of the LHC. We find that a cut-based anal…
We investigate a production process $e^+p \to \st X \to \sb W^+ X$ at HERA, where we consider a decay mode $\sb \to \barν_e d$ of the sbottom in the framework of an R-parity breaking supersymmetric standard model. Both processes of the stop production $e^+ d \to \st$ and the sbottom decay $\sb \to \barν_e d$ are originated from an R-parity breaking superpotential $λ'_{131} \hat{L}_1 \hat{Q}_3 \hat{D^c}_1$. One of signatures of the process should be a large missing transverse momentum plus multijet events corresponding to hadronic decays of the $W$. It is shown that the signal could appear as a…
Considering a third-generation squark as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), we investigate R-parity violating collider signatures with bilinear LH or trilinear LQD operators that may contribute to observed neutrino masses and mixings. Reinterpreting the LHC 7+8 TeV results of SUSY and leptoquark searches, we find that third-generation squark LSPs decaying to first- or second-generation leptons are generally excluded up to at least about 660 GeV at 95%C.L.. One notable feature of many models is that sbottoms can decay to top quarks and charged leptons that lead to a broader invariant m…
We discuss the phenomenology of third generation sfermions paying particular attention to the implications of the Yukawa couplings and to the left-right mixing. Analytical formulae are given for the sfermion mixing, the production cross sections at e+e- colliders, and for all possible two body decay widths that can occur at tree level. In case of the light stop stop we give in addition the analytical formulae for the most important three body decay widths. We give detailed numerical discussion of the various production cross sections at LEP2 and a future e+e- Linear Collider. We discuss the va…
We attempt to explain the recent ATLAS 3$σ$ excess of dilepton events with an invariant mass near $Z$ peak through the gluino-mediated sbottom production in a simplified scenario inspired by the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The additional $Z$ bosons can be produced through the cascade decay chain $\tilde{g} \to b \tilde{b}^{\dagger}_{1} \to b \bar{b} \tildeχ^{0}_{2,3} \to b \bar{b} \tildeχ^{0}_1 Z$, in which $\tilde b_1$ is the right-handed sbottom, $\tildeχ_1^0$ is the bino-like lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) and $\tildeχ_{2,3}^0$ are two nearly degenerate higgsino-li…
Presence of nonholomorphic soft SUSY breaking terms is known to be a possibility in the popular setup of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). It has been shown that such a scenario known as NonHolomorphic Supersymmetric Standard Model (NHSSM) could remain `natural' ( i.e., not fine-tuned) even in the presence of a rather heavy higgsino-like LSP. However, it turns out that distinguishing such a scenario from the MSSM is unlikely to be an easy task, in particular at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). In a first study of such a scenario at colliders (LHC), we explore a possible way tha…
In supersymmetric models a gluino can decay into $tb\tildeχ^{\pm}_1$ through a stop or a sbottom. The decay chain produces an edge structure in the $m_{tb}$ distribution. Monte Carlo simulation studies show that the end point and the edge height would be measured at the CERN LHC by using a sideband subtraction technique. The stop and sbottom masses as well as their decay branching ratios are constrained by the measurement. We study interpretations of the measurement.
We study radiative corrections to third generation scalar fermions into gauge bosons $Z$ and $W^\pm$. We include both SUSY-QCD, QED and full electroweak corrections. It is found that the electroweak corrections can be of the same order as the SUSY-QCD corrections and interfere destructively in some region of parameter space. The full one loop correction can reach 10% in some SUGRA scenario, while in general MSSM, the one loop correction can reach 20% for large $\tanβ$ and large trilinear soft breaking terms $A_b$.
The Yukawa corrections of order ${\cal O}(α_{ew}m_{t(b)}^2/m_W^2)$, ${\cal O}(α_{ew}m_{t(b)}^3/m_W^3)$ and ${\cal O}(α_{ew}m_{t(b)}^4/m_W^4)$ to the width of sbottom decay into lighter stop plus charged Higgs boson are calculated in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. These corrections depend on the masses of charged Higgs boson and lighter stop, and the parameters $\tanβ$ and $μ$. For favorable parameter values, the corrections decrease or increase the decay widths significantly. Especially for high values of $\tanβ$(=30) the corrections exceed at least 10% for both $\tilde b_1$ and $\…
We present a calculation of the two-loop bottom-sbottom-gluino contributions to Higgs boson production via gluon fusion in the MSSM. The calculation is based on an asymptotic expansion in the masses of the supersymmetric particles, which are assumed to be much heavier than the bottom quark and the Higgs bosons. We obtain explicit analytic results that allow for a straightforward identification of the dominant contributions in the NLO bottom corrections. We emphasize the interplay between the calculations of the masses and the production cross sections of the Higgs bosons, discussing sensible c…
The ATLAS and CMS experiments at the CERN LHC have collected about 20 $fb^{-1}$ of data each at the end of their 8 TeV run, and ruled out a huge swath of parameter space in the context of Minimally Supersymmetric Standard Model(MSSM). Limits on masses of the gluino ($\tilde{g}$) and the squarks of the first two generations($\tilde{q}$) have been pushed to the TeV range. Light third generation squarks namely stop and sbottom of sub-TeV masses, on the other hand, are still allowed by their direct search limits. Interestingly, the discovery of a Standard Model(SM) higgs boson like particle with a…
We investigate the production process of the single scalar bottom quark (sbottom) and scalar charm quark (scharm) at HERA. The sbottom and scharm could be produced via an R-parity breaking interactions $λ'_{123} \neq 0$ in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). These processes give a slight excess in the invariant mass $M_{eq}$ distribution of the high $Q^2$ deep inelastic scattering for sufficiently heavy gauginos and the scalar top (stop). For the light gauginos and stop, it is shown that the tagging of $b/c$-quarks and charged leptons with high transverse energies will be indispe…
We estimate the Tevatron Run II potential for top and bottom squark searches. We find an impressive reach in several of the possible discovery channels. We also study some new channels which may arise in non-conventional supersymmetry models. In each case we rely on a detailed Monte Carlo simulation of the collider events and the CDF detector performance in Run I.
A light stop with mass almost degenerate with the lightest neutralino has important connections with both naturalness and dark matter relic abundance. This region is also very hard to probe at colliders. In this paper, we demonstrate the potential of searching for such stop particles at the LHC from sbottom decays, focusing on two channels with final states $2\ell+E^{\rm miss}_{\rm T}$ and $1b1\ell+E^{\rm miss}_{\rm T}$. We found that, if the lightest sbottom has mass around or below 1 TeV and has a significant branching ratio to decay to stop and $W$ ($\tilde{b} \to \tilde{t}\,W$), a stop alm…
We report on the results of a phenomenological study of top squarks (stop_{1,2}) and bottom squarks (sbottom_{1,2}) in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) with complex parameters A_t, A_b, mu and M_1. In particular we focus on the CP phase dependence of the branching ratios of stop_{1,2} and sbottom_{1,2} decays. We find that the effect of the phases on the stop_{1,2} and sbottom_{1,2} decays can be quite significant in a large region of the MSSM parameter space. We also study a CP asymmetry in sfermion decays.
We study the decays of the charged Higgs boson H^+ within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We find that the supersymetric mode 'stop + sbottom-bar' can dominate the H^+ decays in a wide range of the model parameters due to the large Yukawa couplings and mixings of stop and sbottom. Compared to the conventional modes 'tau^+ nu' and 't b-bar', this mode has very distinctive signatures. This could have a decisive impact on H^+ searches at future colliders. We find also that the QCD corrections to the 'stop + sbottom-bar' mode are significant, but that they do not invalidate our tree-lev…
We compare the experimental prospects of direct stop and sbottom pair production searches at the LHC. Such searches for stops are of great interest as they directly probe for states that are motivated by the SUSY solution to the hierarchy problem of the Higgs mass parameter - leading to a "Natural" SUSY spectrum. Noting that sbottom searches are less experimentally challenging and scale up in reach directly with the improvement on b-tagging algorithms, we discuss the interplay of small TeV scale custodial symmetry violation with sbottom direct pair production searches as a path to obtaining st…
The top squarks (stops) may be the most wanted particles after the Higgs boson discovery. The searches for the lightest stop have put strong constraints on its mass. However, there is still a search gap in the low mass region if the spectrum of the stop and the lightest neutralino is compressed. In that case, it may be easier to look for the second stop since naturalness requires both stops to be close to the weak scale. The current experimental searches for the second stop are based on the simplified model approach with the decay modes $\tilde{t}_2 \to \tilde{t}_1 Z$ and $\tilde{t}_2 \to \til…
We study the effects from light sfermions on the lightest Higgs boson production and decay at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). We find that the scenario with light coloured sfermions -- stops or sbottoms -- has the potential to explain a non-universal alteration, as hinted by LHC data, of the gluon-gluon Fusion ($μ_{ggF}$) with respect to the Vector Boson Fusion ($μ_{VBF}$) event rates and, in particular, can predict $\frac{μ_{VBF}}{μ_{ggF}}>1$ for all Higgs boson decay channels in large areas of the parameter space. We also find that the…
Compressed mass spectra are generally more difficult to identify than spectra with large splittings. In particular, gluino pair production with four high energy top or bottom quarks leaves a striking signature in a detector. However, if any of the mass splittings are compressed, the power of traditional techniques may deteriorate. Searches for direct stop/sbottom pair production can fill in the gaps. As a demonstration, we show that for $\tilde{g}\rightarrow t\tilde{t}_1$ and $m_{\tilde{t}_1}\sim m_{\tildeχ_1^0}$, limits on the stop mass at 8 TeV can be extended by least 300 GeV for a 1.1 TeV …
A light stop around the weak scale is a hopeful messenger of natural supersymmetry (SUSY), but it has not shown up at the current stage of LHC. Such a situation raises the question of the fate of natural SUSY. Actually, a relatively light stop can easily be hidden in a compressed spectra such as mild mass degeneracy between stop and neutralino plus top quark. Searching for such a stop at the LHC is a challenge. On the other hand, in terms of the argument of natural SUSY, other members in the stop sector, including a heavier stop $\tilde{t}_2$ and lighter sbottom $\tilde{b}_1$ (both assumed to …
We calculate cross sections for mixed stop-sbottom pair production at the LHC, analogous to single-top production, a weak process involving the W-t(i)-b(j) vertex. While coupling-suppressed relative to QCD same-flavor squark pair production, the signal is distinctive due to heavy-flavor tagging along with a possible same-sign lepton pair in the final state. SUSY backgrounds can often be suppressed many orders of magnitude by taking advantage of distinct kinematic differences from the signal. Measuring the rate of this process would add significant additional information to that gathered from o…
In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) searches for the heaviest CP-even and CP-odd Higgs $H$, $A$ to tau-lepton pairs severely constrain the parameter region for large values of $\tanβ$ and light Higgs bosons $H$, $A$. We demonstrate how the experimental constraint can be avoided by new decays to light third-generation sfermions, whose left-right couplings to $H$ can be maximised in regions of large trilinear couplings $A_{b}$, $A_τ$ for sbottoms and staus, or large supersymmetric (SUSY) Higgs mass $μ$ for stops. Due to the $\tanβ$-enhancement in the production cross-sections via…
We address the compatibility of a light sbottom (mass $2\sim 5.5 \gev$) and a light gluino (mass $12\sim 16 \gev$) with electroweak precision measurements. Such light particles have been suggested to explain the observed excess in the $b$ quark production cross section at the Tevatron. The electroweak observables may be affected by the sbottom and gluino through the SUSY-QCD corrections to the $Zbb$ vertex. We examine, in addition to the SUSY-QCD corrections, the electroweak corrections to the gauge boson propagators from the stop which are allowed to be light from the SU(2)$_L$ symmetry. We f…
We generalize the analytical expressions for the two-loop leading-log neutral Higgs boson masses and mixing angles to the case of general left- and right-handed soft supersymmetry breaking stop and sbottom masses and left--right mixing mass parameters ($m_Q, m_U, m_D, A_t, A_b$). This generalization is essential for the computation of Higgs masses and couplings in the presence of light stops. At high scales we use the minimal supersymmetric standard model effective potential, while at low scales we consider the two-Higgs doublet model (renormalization group improved) effective potential, with …
We review the one-loop corrections to the partial decay width of sbottom-quark into a top quark and a chargino for the parameter space relevant to the TESLA e+e- linear collider. We present the results available in the literature for the QCD and the Yukawa coupling corrections in a unified framework. In this way a direct comparison of the size of the various corrections is possible.
Non-minimal supersymmetric models that predict a tree-level Higgs mass above the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) bound are well motivated by naturalness considerations. Indirect constraints on the stop sector parameters of such models are significantly relaxed compared to the MSSM; in particular, both stops can have weak-scale masses. We revisit the stop-catalyzed electroweak baryogenesis (EWB) scenario in this context. We find that the LHC measurements of the Higgs boson production and decay rates already rule out the possibility of stop-catalyzed EWB. We also introduce a gauge-i…
Supersymmetric loop contributions can lead to different decay rates of H+\to t\bar b and H-\to b\bar t. We calculate the decay rate asymmetry δ^CP = \frac{Γ(H+\to t\bar b)-Γ(H-\to b\bar t)}{{Γ(H+\to t\bar b)+Γ(H-\to b\bar t)} at next-to-leading order in the MSSM with complex parameters. We analyse the parameter dependence of δ^CP with emphasis on the phases of A_t and A_b. It turns out that the most important contribution comes from the loop with stop, sbottom, and gluino. If this contribution is present, δ^CP can go up to 10-15%.
The "top-down" approach to minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) phenomenology provides model-dependent indications for a natural stop mass. The approach is based on specific assumptions about the supersymmetry-breaking energy scale and parameters degeneracies. In order to determine robust predictions we update the stop-mass prediction within the MSSM with 25 parameters (MSSM-25) by including electroweak fine-tuning as "naturalness data" during the Bayesian fits of the parameters to experimental data. The approximately prior-independent results show that imposing naturalness, taken here…
Two of the most important parameters in supersymmetry are the masses of the stop and sbottom, the supersymmetric partners of the third generation quarks. A stop mass lighter than 1 TeV is favored theoretically, however, conventional searches based on the simplified models have not produced experimental evidence for a light stop. It is possible that the light stop evades our searches due to a compressed sparticle mass spectrum. Therefore, the searches are extended to cover a broader range of signal scenarios with different mass splittings between the stop, neutralino(s), and chargino(s). The se…
A Standard Model-like Higgs near 125 GeV in the MSSM requires multi-TeV stop masses, or a near-maximal contribution to its mass from stop mixing. We investigate the maximal mixing scenario, and in particular its prospects for being realized it in potentially realistic GUT models. We work out constraints on the possible GUT-scale soft terms, which we compare with what can be obtained from some well-known mechanisms of SUSY breaking mediation. Finally, we analyze two promising scenarios in detail, namely gaugino mediation and gravity mediation with non-universal Higgs masses.
We show that, for all values of $Tan β$ and the light right-handed stop mass for which the electroweak phase transition is strong enough to avoid washout following electroweak baryogenesis, the electroweak vacuum is stable over the lifetime of the observed Universe. Cosmological stability of the electroweak vacuum is violated only if the light right-handed stop is lighter than 100-115GeV.
In this article we study the MSSM with stops and Higgs scalars much lighter than gluinos and squarks of the first two generations. In this setup, one should use an effective field theory with partial supersymmetry in which the gluino and heavy squarks are integrated out in order to connect SUSY parameters (given at a high scale) to observables in the stop sector. In the construction of this effective theory, valid below the gluino mass scale, we take into account $O(α_3)$ and $O(Y_{t,b}^2)$ effects and calculate the matching as well as the renormalization group evolution. As a result, the runn…
The implications of the LEP Higgs bounds on the MSSM stop masses and mixing are compared in two different regions of the Higgs parameter space. The first region is the Higgs decoupling limit, in which the bound on the mass of the lighter Higgs is $m_h \ge 114.4$ GeV, and the second region is near a non-decoupling limit with $m_h \simeq 93$ GeV, in which the masses of all the physical Higgs bosons are required to be light. Additional constraints from the electroweak $S$- and $T$-parameter and the decays $B \to X_s γ$ and $B_s \to μ^+ μ^-$, which also constrain the Higgs and/or stop sector, are …
We propose using the lightest CP-even Higgs boson in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) to probe the stop sector. Unlike measuring stop masses in production/decay processes which requires knowledge of masses and mixing angles of other superparticles, the strategy depends little on supersymmetric parameters other than those in the stop sector in a large region of parameter space. We show that measurements of the Higgs mass and the production rate in the gluon fusion channel, the dominant channel at the LHC, allow for determination of two parameters in the stop mass-squared matrix,…
We calculate the finite temperature 2-loop effective potential in the MSSM with stop condensation, using a 3-dimensional effective theory. We find that in a part of the parameter space, a two-stage electroweak phase transition appears possible. The first stage would be the formation of a stop condensate, and the second stage is the transition to the standard electroweak minimum. The two-stage transition could significantly relax the baryon erasure bounds, but the parameter space allowing it (m_H \lsim 100 GeV, m_tR \sim 155-160 GeV) is not very large. We estimate the reliability of our results…
We use the framework of the p19MSSM to perform a fit to the mild excesses over the Standard Model background recently observed in three bins of the ATLAS 1-lepton + (b-)jets + MET search. We find a few types of spectra that can fit the emerging signal and at the same time are not excluded by other LHC searches. They can be grouped roughly in two categories. The first class is characterized by the presence of one stop or stop and sbottoms with mass in the ballpark of 700-800 GeV and a neutralino LSP of mass around 400 GeV, with or without the additional presence of an intermediate chargino. In …
We compute the one-loop radiative corrections to the masses of the top quark, the stop squarks and the gluino in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model. We include the loops controlled by the strong coupling constant and the top Yukawa coupling, neglecting those controlled by the $SU(2) \times U(1)$ gauge couplings and by other Yukawa couplings. We find that the significant scale-dependence of the renormalization-group-improved tree-level expressions is almost completely removed. Even for natural choices of the renormalization scale, corrections can be numerically relevant. Our results shou…
This work investigates the possibility of a long-lived stop squark in supersymmetric models with the neutralino as the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP). We study the implications of meta-stable stops on the sparticle mass spectra and the dark matter density. We find that in order to obtain a sufficiently long stop lifetime so as to be observable as a stable R-hadron at an LHC experiment, we need to fine tune the mass degeneracy between the stop and the LSP considerably. This increases the stop-neutralino coanihilation cross section, leaving the neutralino relic density lower than what is…
We discuss the phenomenology of the lightest stops in models where R-parity is broken by bilinear terms. In this class of models we consider scenarios where the R-parity breaking two-body decay stop_1 -> tau + b competes with the leading three-body decays stop_1 -> W^+ + b + neutralino_1, H^+ + b + neutralino_1, b slepton^+_i neutrino_l, b sneutrino_l l^+ (l=e, mu, tau). We demonstrate that the R-parity violating decay can be the dominant one. In particular we focus on the implications for a future electron posistion Linear Collider.
