Using data collected with the BaBar detector at PEP-II at SLAC, we report on several tau lepton measurements that are used to determine the modulus of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix element Vus, and to check the Standard Model predictions of lepton universality and CPT conservation.
We describe measurements of CP and CPT violation parameters in B^0B^0bar oscillations, performed at BaBar by using BBbar events collected at the Y(4S) mass peak. These are obtained from two different B-reconstruction methods, namely: searching for two inclusive semileptonic B^0 decays in an event or partially reconstructing one of the B^0 mesons in the D* l nu_l channel. The results are in agreement with one another and with the most recent theoretical calculations in the Standard Model scenario.
The weak interaction between the first and second generation of quarks, the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix (CKM) element |Vus|, can be probed using hadronic tau decays. In this paper, we present the recent measurements of hadronic tau decays from BELLE and BABAR and the improvements in the determination of |Vus| from tau decays.
The most precise determination of Vus comes from semileptonic kaon decays. We have measured with the KLOE detector at DAFNE, the Frascati phi-factory, all the experimental inputs to Vus for both neutral and charged kaons. Using our results we extract the value of Vus with about 0.9% fractional error, which is entirely dominated by the theoretical error on the knowledge of the normalization of the decay form factors, f0. A new determination of the ratio Vus/Vud is also presented, based on our precise measurement of the absolute branching ratio for the decay K+ -> mu+nu, combined with recent lat…
We report the status of the Heavy Flavour Averaging Group (HFLAV) averages of the $τ$ lepton measurements We then update the latest published HFLAV global fit of the $τ$ lepton branching fractions (Spring 2017) with recent results by BABAR. We use the fit results to update the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix element Vus measurements with the $τ$ branching fractions. We combine the direct $τ$ branching fraction measurements with indirect predictions using kaon branching fractions measurements to improve the determination of Vus using $τ$ branching fractions. The Vus determinations based …

Recent measurements of observables sensitive to CPT, T and CP violation in neutral B meson mixing by the B-factory experiments Belle and BaBar are presented.
A first measurement of time-reversal (T) asymmetries that are not also CP asymmetries has been recently achieved by the BaBar collaboration. We analyze the measured asymmetries in the presence of direct CP violation, CPT violation, wrong strangeness decays and wrong sign semileptonic decays. We note that the commonly used S_{ψK} and C_{ψK} parameters are CP-odd, but have a T-odd CPT-even part and a T-even CPT-odd part. We introduce parameters that have well-defined transformation properties under CP, T and CPT. We identify contributions to the measured asymmetries that are T conserving. We exp…
We present preliminary measurements of CP-violating asymmetries in B decays. These include new results on the CKM angle alpha based on studies of the decay B -> rho+ rho- and several charmonium and hadronic penguin modes, sensitive to the CKM angle beta, including results on B -> phi K0S, B -> K+K-K0, B -> eta' K0S, B -> f0 K0, and B -> pi0 K0S. We also report on several of results related to the extraction of gamma and (2*beta+gamma) and present limits on CPT violation in B decays.
Using the eight time dependences for the decays Upsilon(4S)-> B0 B0bar -> fj fk with the dacay into a flavor-specific state fj = ell+- X before or after the decay into a CP eigenstate fk = c cbar KS,KL, as measured by the BABAR experiment, we determine the three CPT-sensitive parameters Re(z) and Im(z) in B0-B0bar mixing and |Abar/A| in B0 -> c cbar K0 decays. We find Im(z) = 0.010 +- 0.030 +- 0.013, Re(z) = -0.065 +- 0.028 +- 0.014, and |Abar/A| = 0.999 +- 0.023 +- 0.017, in agreement with CPT symmetry.
CP-violation (CPV) and Time-reversal violation (TRV) are intimately related through the CPT theorem: if one of these discrete symmetries is violated the other one has to be violated in such a way to conserve CPT. Although CPV in the B0-B0 system has been established by the B-factories, implying indirectly TRV, there is still no direct evidence of TRV. We report on the observation of TRV in the B-meson system performed with a dataset of 468 million BB pairs produced in Y(4S) decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e- collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Lab…
We report results of a search for CPT and Lorentz violation in B0-B0bar oscillations using inclusive dilepton events from 232 million Y(4S) --> BBbar decays recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B Factory at SLAC. We find 2.8sigma significance, compatible with no signal, for variations in the complex CPT violation parameter z at the Earth's sidereal frequency and extract values for the quantities Δ(a_μ) in the general Lorentz-violating standard-model extension. The spectral powers for variations in z over the frequency range 0.26/year to 2.1/day are also compatible with no signal.
We report the results of a search for T, CP and CPT violation in B0-B0bar mixing using an inclusive dilepton sample collected by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II B Factory. Using a sample of 232 million BBbar pairs, with a simultaneous likelihood fit of the same-sign and opposite-sign dileptons, we measure the T and CP violation parameter |q/p|-1 = (-0.8 +/- 2.7(stat.) +/- 1.9(syst.))e-03, and the CPT and CP parameters Im(z) = (-13.9 +/- 7.3 (stat.) +/- 3.2(syst.))e-03 and DeltaGamma x Re(z) = (-7.1 +/- 3.9(stat.) +/- 2.0(syst.))e-03 ps^{-1}. The statistical correlation between the measureme…
I present three recent results from searches for exotic physics at the BaBar/PEP-II B-factory. These results span many of the samples produced at the B-factory, including B mesons, tau leptons, and Upsilon(3S) mesons. We have searched for CPT-violation in B mixing and find no significant deviation from the no-violation hypothesis. We have also searched for lepton-flavor-violating decays of the tau using tau- -> omega l- and tau- -> l+ l- l+ and their charge conjugates. We find no evidence for these processes and set upper limits on their branching fractions. Finally, we have searched for a low…
The BABAR and Belle experiments have made detailed studies of time-dependent CP violation in the B meson sector. If CPT is conserved, CP violation should imply the presence of time-reversal violation. Production of entangled neutral B mesons in definite flavor states (B0 or anti-B0) decaying to J/psi K_L or c anti-c K_S final states permit comparisons between the probabilities of four pairs of T-conjugated transitions as a function of the time interval between the two B decays. Using 468 million B anti-B pairs produced in Y(4S) decays collected by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory at …
Recent results from BaBar and Belle experiments on $B \bar B$ mixing and $\sin 2ϕ_1$ are presented. Accuracy of $Δm_d$ measurements has reached 1.2%. Higher order effects within the Standard Model or possible new physics effect that might appear in the $B \bar B$ mixing through non-zero $ΔΓ/Γ$, CP violation, or $CPT$ violation have been explored. The BaBar and Belle results on $\sin 2ϕ_1$ from the $b \to c \bar{c} s$ modes are in good agreement with each other and a combined result with an accuracy of 8% is in good agreement with a global CKM fit. A simple average of the $\sin 2ϕ_1$ values tha…
Using events in which one of two neutral B mesons from the decay of an Y(4S) meson is fully reconstructed, we determine parameters governing decay (ΔΓ_d/Γ_d), CP and T violation (|q/p|), and CP and CPT violation (Rez,Imz). The results, obtained from an analysis of 88 million Y(4S) decays recorded by BABAR, are -- sgn(Re(lambdaCP))ΔΓ_d/Gamma_d = -0.008 +- 0.037 +- 0.018 [ -0.084, 0.068 ] |q/p| = 1.029 +- 0.013 +- 0.011 [ 1.001, 1.057 ] Re(lambdaCP)/|lambdaCP| Rez = 0.014 +- 0.035 +- 0.034 [ -0.072, 0.101 ] Imz = 0.038 +- 0.029 +- 0.025 [ -0.028, 0.104 ]. -- The values inside square brackets ind…
We report preliminary results of a search for CPT and Lorentz violation in B0-B0bar oscillations using an inclusive dilepton sample collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II B Factory. Using a sample of 232 million BBbar pairs, we search for time-dependent variations in the complex CPT parameter z = z0 + z1*cos(Omega*t^ + phi) where Omega is the Earth's sidereal frequency and t^ is sidereal time. We measure Im(z0) = (-14.1 +- 7.3(stat) +- 2.4(syst)) x 10E-3, DeltaGamma*Re(z0) = (-7.2 +- 4.1(stat) +- 2.1(syst)) x 10E-3 ps-1, Im(z1) = (-24.0 +- 10.7(stat) +- 5.9(syst)) x 10E-3, and DeltaGa…
Today the B-factories BaBar and Belle have accumulated largest samples of tau-tau events and are competing to be called tau-factories. Among the problems to be tested and measurements to be done by BaBar and Belle are check of CP and CPT invariance in tau decays, measurement of strange and non-strange spectral functions, extraction of mass of strange quark and |V_us|, searches for lepton flavor violation processes. In this paper, the latest results in tau physics by these two experiments and measurements to be done within next few years are reviewed.
Using events in which one of two neutral B mesons from the decay of an Y(4S) resonance is fully reconstructed, we set limits on the lifetime difference between the two neutral-B mass eigenstates and on CP, T, and CPT violation in B0-B0bar mixing. Both CP and non-CP eigenstates were obtained from the 88 million Y(4S)->B0B0bar decays collected between 1999 and 2002 with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B-Factory at SLAC. We determine six independent parameters governing mixing (dm, dGamma/Gamma), CPT/CP violation (Re(z), Im(z)), and CP/T violation (Imλ(CP), |q/p|), where λ(CP) …
Using events in which one of two neutral-B mesons from the decay of an Y(4S) resonance is fully reconstructed, we set limits on the difference between the decay rates of the two neutral-B mass eigenstates and on CP, T, and CPT violation in B0-antiB0 mixing. The reconstructed decays, comprising both CP and flavor eigenstates, are obtained from 88 million Y(4S) --> Banti-B decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. An overview of current experimental bounds on $CPT$ violation in neutral meson mixing is given. New values for the $CPT$ asymmetry in the $B^0$ and $B_s^0$ systems are deduced from published BaBar, Belle and LHCb results. With dedicated analyses, LHCb will be able to further improve the bounds on $CPT$ violation in the $D^0$, $B^0$ and $B_s^0$ systems. Since $CPT$ violation implies violation of Lorentz invariance in an interacting local quantum field theory, the observed $CPT$ asymmetry will exhibit sidereal- and boost-dependent variations. Such $CPT$-violating and Lorentz-violating effects ar…
BaBar collaboration announced that they observed time reversal (T) asymmetry through $B$ meson system. In the experiment, time dependencies of two distinctive processes, $B_- \rightarrow \bar{B^0}$ and $\bar{B^0}\rightarrow B_-$($-$ expresses CP value) are compared with each other. In our study, we examine event number difference of these two processes. In contrast to the BaBar asymmetry, the asymmetry of events number includes the overall normalization difference for rates. Time dependence of the asymmetry is more general and it includes terms absent in one used by BaBar collaboration. Both o…
Among some 400 million KsKl pairs produced in e+e- annihilations at DAFNE, about 6500 each of Ks->pi+e-nubar and Ks->pi-e+nu decays have been observed with the KLOE detector. From these, the ratio G(Ks->pienu)/G(Ks->p+p-(g))=(10.19+-0.13)10-4 is obtained, improving the accuracy on BR(Ks->pienu) by a factor of four and providing the most precise test of the DeltaS=DeltaQ rule. From the partial width Gamma(Ks->pienu), a value for f+(K0)Vus is obtained that is in agreement with unitarity of the quark-mixing matrix. The lepton charge asymmetry AS=(1.5+-9.6stat+-2.9syst)10-3 is compatible with the …
Recent measurements in the charm sector are reviewed, concentrating on results which are sensitive to New Physics effects. The scope of the presentation includes D0-D0bar mixing searches, a CPT / Lorentz invariance study, and a range of searches for rare and forbidden decays. Results from the BaBar, Belle, CDF, CLEO, and FOCUS collaborations are presented, including an important first observation.
$CP$ violation asymmetry is expected to be very small within the Standard Model. Observation of $CP$ violation in charm sector would hint towards New Physics. Time-reversal asymmetry is sensitive to $CPV$ via the $CPT$ Theorem, and is a clean and alternative way to search for CP violation in charm decays. This is achieved by the use of triple-product correlations in 4-body charm meson decays. The results from previous searches at BaBar and LHCb Collaborations and the latest results from Belle are reported. The most recent result from Belle performed in $D^{0} \to K^{+}K^{-}π^{+}π^{-}$ decays u…
Some recent $τ$-physics results are presented from the BaBar and Belle experiments at the SLAC and KEK B factories, which produce copious numbers of $τ$-lepton pairs. Measurements of the tau mass and lifetime allow to test lepton universality and CPT invariance, while searches for lepton-flavour violation in tau decays are powerful ways to look for physics beyond the Standard Model. In semihadronic, non-strange tau decays, the vector hadronic final state is particularly important in helping determine the hadronic corrections to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, while studies of strang…
