The internal structure of the resonant Lambda(1405) state is investigated based on meson-baryon coupled-channels chiral dynamics, by evaluating density distributions obtained from the form factors of the Lambda(1405) state. The form factors are defined as an extension of the ordinary stable particles and are directly evaluated from the meson-baryon scattering amplitude, paying attention to the charge conservation of the probe interaction. For the resonant Lambda(1405) state we calculate the density distributions in two ways. One is on the pole position of the Lambda(1405) in the complex energy plane, which evaluates the resonant Lambda(1405) structure without contamination from nonresonant backgrounds, and another on the real energy axis around the Lambda(1405) resonance energy, which may be achieved in experiments. Using sereval probe interactions and channel decomposition, we separate the various contributions to the internal structure of the Lambda(1405). As a result, we find that the resonant Lambda(1405) state is composed of widely spread Kbar around N, which gives dominant component inside the Lambda(1405), with escaping pi Sigma component. Furthermore, we consider Kbar N bound state without decay channels, with which we can observe the internal structure of the bound state within real numbers. We also study the dependence of the form factors on the binding energy and meson mass. This verifies that the form factor defined through the scattering amplitude serves as a natural generalization of the form factor for the resonance state. The relation between the interaction strength and the meson mass shows that the physical kaon mass appears to be within the suitable range to form a molecular bound state with the nucleon through the chiral SU(3) interaction.
In a recent experiment E906 at the BNL-AGS, a search for light S=-2 hypernuclei, strong evidence was found for the nuclide Hydrogen-4 double Lambda. One of the most striking components of this data was the appearance of a narrow low-momentum pi- line at k(pi-) = 104-105 MeV/c. This was ascribed to the decay of Hydrogen-4 double Lambda into a resonant state in Helium-4 Lambda. The existence of such a state is shown to be plausible and its characteristics are delineated.
We study the central part of Lambda N and Lambda Lambda potential by considering the correlated and uncorrelated two-meson exchange besides the omega exchange contribution. The correlated two-meson is evaluated in a chiral unitary approach. We find that a short range repulsion is generated by the correlated two-meson potential which also produces an attraction in the intermediate distance region. The uncorrelated two-meson exchange produces a sizeable attraction in all cases which is counterbalanced by omega exchange contribution.
To solve the current debate on the position of the quasi-bound K^-p state, namely, "Lambda(1405) or Lambda*(1420)", we propose to measure the T_{21} = T_{Sigma-pi \leftarrow Kbar-N} Sigma-pi invariant-mass spectrum in stopped-K- absorption in deuteron, since the spectrum, reflecting the soft and hard deuteron momentum distribution, is expected to have a narrow quasi-free component with an upper edge of M = 1430 MeV/c^2, followed by a significant "high-momentum" tail toward the lower mass region, where a resonant formation of Lambda(1405) of any mass and width in a wide range is revealed. We in…
A Multi-Channel Algebraic Scattering (MCAS) approach has been used to analyze the spectra of two hyper-nuclear systems, Lambda-9Be and Lambda-13C. The splitting of the two odd-parity excited levels (1/2^- and 3/2^-) at 11 MeV excitation in Lambda-13C is driven mainly by the weak Lambda-nucleus spin-orbit force, but the splittings of the 3/2^+ and 5/2^+ levels in both Lambda-9Be and Lambda-13C have a different origin. These cases appear to be dominated by coupling to the collective 2+ states of the core nuclei. Using simple phenomenological potentials as input to the MCAS method, the observed s…
Electromagnetic mean squared radii of Lambda(1405) are evaluated in chiral unitary approach. In this approach we regard Lambda(1405) as dynamically generated resonances in the octet meson and octet baryon scattering, and also as KbarN bound state. Especially for the Lambda(1405) as KbarN bound state we obtain negative electric mean squared radius. With the small binding energy of Lambda(1405) in the chiral unitary approach, our results imply that Lambda(1405) has structure that K^- is widely spread around p.
The internal structure of the resonant Lambda(1405) state is investigated based on meson-baryon coupled-channels chiral dynamics. We evaluate Lambda(1405) form factors which are extracted from current-coupled scattering amplitudes in meson-baryon degrees of freedom. Using several probe currents and channel decomposition, we find that the resonant Lambda(1405) state is dominantly composed of widely spread Kbar around N, with escaping pi Sigma component.
The internal structure of the resonant Lambda(1405) state is investigated based on meson-baryon coupled-channels chiral dynamics, by evaluating density distributions obtained from the form factors of the Lambda(1405) state. The form factors are extracted from current-coupled scattering amplitudes in which the current is coupled to the constituent hadrons inside Lambda(1405). Using several probe interactions and channel decomposition, we find that the resonant Lambda(1405) state is dominantly composed of widely spread Kbar around N, with a small fraction of the escaping pi Sigma component.
The electric mean squared radii <r^2>_E of Lambda(1405) are calculated in the chiral unitary model. We describe the Lambda(1405) as a dynamically generated resonance fully in the octet meson and octet baryon scattering. We also consider ``Lambda(1405)'' as a bound state of KbarN. For the later ``Lambda(1405),'' we obtain negative and larger absolute value of electric mean squared radius than that of ordinary baryons, which implies that Lambda(1405) have structure of widely spread K^- around p.
The nature of the Lambda(1405) is discussed based on the unitarised coupled-channels approach with chiral dynamics (chiral unitary model). This approach describes the Kbar N scattering cross sections and the Lambda(1405) spectra phenomenologically very well. With this successful description of Lambda(1405), it is found that the Lambda(1405) is composed by two resonance states having different coupling nature to the meson-baryon states. As a consequence, the resonance position in the pi Sigma invariant mass spectrum depends on the initial channel of the Lambda(1405) production. To observe the L…
The Lambda(1405) resonance is studied by a chiral unitary approach, in which the resonance is dynamically generated in coupled-channel meson-baryon scattering. Investigating the analytic structure of the scattering amplitudes obtained by the chiral unitary approach, we find two poles around the energies of the Lambda(1405) coupling differently to the meson-baryon states. We reach the conclusion that the Lambda(1405) resonance seen in experiments is not just one single resonance, but a superposition of these two states.
The electromagnetic mean squared radii, <r^2>_E and <r^2>_M, of Lambda(1405) are calculated in the chiral unitary model. We describe the excited baryons as dynamically generated resonances in the octet meson and octet baryon scattering. We evaluate values of <r^2>_E and <r^2>_M for the Lambda(1405) on the resonance pole and obtain their complex values. We also consider Lambda(1405) obtained by neglecting decay channels. For the latter case, we obtain negative and larger absolute electric mean squared radius than that of typical ground state baryons. This implies that Lambda(1405) has structure…
The K^- induced production of Lambda(1405) is investigated in K^- d to pi Sigma n reactions based on coupled-channels chiral dynamics, in order to discuss the resonance position of the Lambda(1405) in the KbarN channel. We find that the K^-d to Lambda(1405)n process favors the production of Lambda(1405) initiated by the KbarN channel. The present approach indicates that the Lambda(1405) resonance position is 1420 MeV rather than 1405 MeV in the pi Sigma invariant mass spectra of K- d to pi Sigma n reactions. This is consistent with an observed spectrum of the K^- d to pi^+ Sigma^- n with 686-8…
We study the pp -> p Lambda K+ and pp -> p Sigma0 K+ reactions near threshold by using a chiral unitary approach. We consider the single-pion and single-kaon exchange as well as the final state interactions of nucleon-hyperon, K-hyperon and K-nucleon systems. Our results on the total cross section of the pp -> p Lambda K+ reaction is consistent with the experimental data, and the experimental observed strong suppression of Sigma0 production compared to Lambda production at the same excess energy can also be explained in our model.
The present status of the Lambda(1405) structure study in chiral dynamics is briefly reviewed. It turns out that the Lambda(1405) resonance can be described by hadronic dynamics. The idea of the hadronic molecular state is extended to kaonic few-body states. It is concluded that, due to the fact that K and N have similar coupling nature in s-wave Kbar couplings, there are few-body quasibound states with kaons systematically just below the break-up thresholds, like KbarNN, KbarKN and KbarKK, as well as Lambda(1405) as a KbarN quasibound state and f_0(980) and a_0(980) as KbarK.
Based on the chiral kinetic approach using initial conditions from a multiphase transport model, we study the spin polarizations of quarks and antiquarks in non-central heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. Because of the non-vanishing vorticity field in these collisions, quarks and antiquarks are found to acquire appreciable spin polarizations in the direction perpendicular to the reaction plane. Converting quarks and antiquarks to hadrons via the coalescence model, we further calculate the spin polarizations of Lambda and anti-Lambda hyperons and find their values comp…
The Sigma-pi invariant-mass spectra in the resonant capture of K- at rest in 4He, 3He and d are calculated by a coupled-channel procedure for a K-p quasi-bound state of an arbitrary chosen mass (M) and width (Gamma). A chi2 analysis of old 4He bubble chamber data shows a dominance of the s-orbit absorption, and yielded M = 1405.5 ^(+1.4)_(-1) MeV/c2 and Gamma = 26 ^(+4)_(-3) MeV, where a possible population of Sigma0(1385) and also a small p-orbit capture contribution are taken into account. This result confirms the Lambda(1405) ansatz, whereas recent chiral-SU(3) predictions (M ~ 1420 MeV/c2)…
By use of the resonating group method, the Delta K, Lambda K, and Sigma K states are further dynamically studied in the extended chiral SU(3) quark model based on our previous work. Similar to the results given by the original chiral SU(3) quark model, the calculated results here still show that the interactions of Delta K with isospin I=1 and Sigma K with isospin I=1/2 are attractive, which can consequently lead to Delta K and Sigma K quasibound states. When the channel coupling of Lambda K and Sigma K is considered, the calculated phase shifts show a sharp resonance between the thresholds of…
We develop a chiral SU(3) symmetric relativistic mean field (RMF) model with a logarithmic potential of scalar condensates. Experimental and empirical data of symmetric nuclear matter saturation properties, bulk properties of normal nuclei, and separation energies of single- and double-$Λ$ hypernuclei are well explained. The nuclear matter equation of state (EOS) is found to be softened by $σζ$ mixing which comes from determinant interaction. The neutron star matter EOS is further softened by $Λ$ hyperons.
The interaction of Lambda*=Lambda(1405) with a nucleon is studied from the viewpoint of chiral dynamics. We construct the coordinate space Lambda* N potential in the meson-exchange picture, which serves as a fundamental ingredient for the study of the few-body nuclear systems with a Lambda*, the Lambda*-hypernuclei. The coupling constants concerning Lambda* are determined based on the chiral unitary model picture for the meson-baryon scattering where Lambda* is described as a superposition of two resonance poles. Solving the coupled-channel two-body Lambda* N system, we find the higher energy …
We study the long range part of the $Λ$-hyperon optical potential in nuclei using Quantum Many Body techniques and flavor-SU(3) Chiral Lagrangians as starting point. More precisely, we study the contributions to the $Λ$-hyperon optical potential due to the long-range two-pion exchange, with $Σ$ and $Σ^*$ baryons in the internal baryonic lines and considering Nh and $Δ$h excitations. We also consider the contribution to the spin-orbit potentials that comes out from these terms. Our results support a natural explanation of the smallness of the $Λ$-nuclear spin-orbit interaction and shows the imp…
The in-medium properties of a hyperon-nucleon potential, derived within chiral effective field theory and fitted to Lambda-N and Sigma-N scattering data, are investigated. Results for the single-particle potentials of the Lambda and Sigma hyperons in nuclear matter are reported, based on a conventional first-order Brueckner calculation. The Sigma-nucleus potential is found to be repulsive, in agreement with phenomenological information. A weak Lambda-nucleus spin-orbit interaction can be achieved by an appropriate adjustment of a low-energy constant corresponding to an antisymmetric Lambda-N -…
A recently developed non-perturbative chiral approach to dynamically generate the (3/2^-) baryon resonances has been extended to investigate the radiative decays Lambda^*(1520) --> gamma Lambda(1116) and Lambda^*(1520) --> gamma Sigma^0(1193). We show that the Lambda^*(1520) decay into gamma Lambda is an ideal test for the need of extra components of the resonance beyond those provided by the chiral approach since the largest meson-baryon components give no contribution to this decay. The case is different for gamma Sigma decay where the theory agrees with experiment, though the large uncertai…
We investigate the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance and Kbar N phenomenology in the perspective of chiral SU(3) dynamics. Utilizing the chiral coupled-channel approach which well describes the Kbar N scattering observable, we perform three different analyses to clarify the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance. The results consistently indicate the meson-baryon molecule picture of the Lambda(1405). We argue the consequence of the chiral dynamics in Kbar N phenomenology and the antikaon bound state in nucleus, emphasizing the important role of the strong pi Sigma interaction.
We discuss several aspects of the Lambda(1405) resonance in relation to the recent theoretical developments in chiral dynamics. We derive an effective single-channel KbarK N interaction based on chiral SU(3) coupled-channel approach, emphasizing the important role of the pi Sigma channel and the structure of the Lambda(1405) in Kbar N phenomenology. In order to clarify the structure of the resonance, we study the behavior with the number of colors (Nc) of the poles associated with the Lambda(1405), and argue the physical meaning of the renormalization procedure.
Based on chiral unitary approach, we construct the realistic KbarN local potential, which is useful for the quantitative calculation of Kbar-nuclei. Since the resonance pole structure of the KbarN system seems important for the Kbar-nuclei and the spacial structure of Lambda(1405), we establish the construction procedure of the local potential paying attention to the scattering amplitude in the complex energy plane. Furthermore, for the quantitative study of the Kbar-nuclei, we consider the constraint from the recent experimental data measured by SIDDHARTA, which significantly reduces the unce…
We present the recent progress in the study on the origin of baryon resonances in chiral dynamics. It is shown that in the chiral coupled-channel approach, the form of the interaction cannot be specified due to the cutoff of the loop integral. To avoid this ambiguity, we propose a natural renormalization scheme, which affords a clue to the origin of the resonance, together with the phenomenological fitting to experimental data. We study the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance in comparison with the N(1535).
We have investigated the single-pole nature of the detectable Lambda(1405) in detail, by employing a chiral model having double poles of a KbarN-piSigma coupled channel T-matrix. The effects of the 1st pole and the 2nd pole on the observed piSigma mass spectrum in the Lambda(1405) region were analyzed separately by means of the Generalized Optical Potential. It is concluded that the 1st pole is responsible for both peak structures seen in the T(piSigma leftarrow KbarN)(T(21)) and T(piSigma leftarrow piSigma)(T(22)) invariant-mass spectra, and the 2nd pole due to an energy-dependent chiral inte…
We report on a recent theoretical work on the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance within a chiral unitary approach, in which the resonance is dynamically generated in meson-baryon scattering. Studying the analytic structure of the scattering amplitude, we have found that there are two poles lying around energies of Lambda(1405) with different widths and couplings to the meson-baryon states. We discuss reactions to conform the double pole structure in experiment and elastic K^- p scattering at low energies.
The S-wave Sigma_c Dbar and Lambda_c Dbar states with isospin I=1/2 and spin S=1/2 are dynamically investigated within the framework of a chiral constituent quark model by solving a resonating group method (RGM) equation. The results show that the interaction between Sigma_c and Dbar is attractive, which consequently results in a Sigma_c Dbar bound state with the binding energy of about 5-42 MeV, unlike the case of Lambda_c Dbar state, which has a repulsive interaction and thus is unbound. The channel coupling effect of Sigma_c Dbar and Lambda_c Dbar is found to be negligible due to the fact t…
We analyze an effect of the coherent $Θ^+Λ(1520)$ photoproduction in $γD$ interaction near the threshold. We demonstrate that the coherence effect becomes manifest in a comparison of the $nK^+$ invariant mass distribution when the $pK^-$ invariant equals the $Λ(1520)$ mass. Our model calculations indicate a sizeable contribution of resonant and non-resonant background processes in the $γD\to np K^+K^-$ reaction which generally exceed the contribution of the coherent resonant channel. However, we find that the coherent $Θ^+Λ(1520)$ photoproduction is enhanced relative to the background processe…
The binding energies of neutron rich strangeness $S=-1$ hypernuclei are estimated in the chiral soliton approach using the bound state rigid oscillator version of the SU(3) quantization model. Additional binding of strange hypernuclei in comparison with nonstrange neutron rich nuclei takes place at not large values of atomic (baryon) numbers, $A=B\leq\sim 10$. This effect becomes stronger with increasing isospin of nuclides, and for "nuclear variant" of the model with rescaled Skyrme constant $e$. Total binding energies of (Lambda)He-8 and recently discovered (Lambda)H-6 satisfactorily agree w…
The properties of the Lambda(1405) resonance are key ingredients for determining the antikaon-nucleon interaction in strangeness nuclear physics, and the novel internal structure of the Lambda(1405) is of great interest in hadron physics, as a prototype case of a baryon that does not fit into the simple three-quark picture. We show that a quantitative description of the antikaon-nucleon interaction with the Lambda(1405) is achieved in the framework of chiral SU(3) dynamics, with the help of recent experimental progress. Further constraints on the Kbar N subthreshold interaction are provided by…
Possible bound and resonant states of the hypernuclear systems $Λnn$ and $ΛΛn$ are sought as zeros of the corresponding three-body Jost functions calculated within the framework of the hyperspherical approach with local two-body S-wave potentials describing the $nn$, $Λn$, and $ΛΛ$ interactions. Very wide near-threshold resonances are found for both three-body systems. The positions of these resonances turned out to be sensitive to the choice of the $Λn$-potential. Bound $Λnn$ and $ΛΛn$ states only appear if the two-body potentials are multiplied by a factor of $\sim 1.5$.
The $K^- p \to π^0 π^0 Σ^0$ reaction is studied within a chiral unitary model. The distribution of $π^0 Σ^0$ states forming the $Λ(1405)$ shows, in agreement with a recent experiment, a peak at 1420 MeV and a relatively narrow width of $Γ= 38$ MeV. We use these data in combination with those of the $π^- p \to K^0 πΣ$ reaction and elements of chiral unitary theory to prove that there are two $Λ(1405)$ states instead of one as so far assumed.
We report on recent progress on the chiral unitary approach, analogous to the effective range expansion in Quantum Mechanics, which is shown to have a much larger convergence radius than ordinary chiral perturbation theory, allowing one to reproduce data for meson meson interaction up to 1.2 GeV. Applications to physical processes so far unsuited for a standard chiral perturbative approach are presented, in which two hadrons, either two mesons or a meson and a baryon, in a resonant state are produced in photoproduction processes.
We develop the single-channel local potential for the KbarN system, which is applicable to quantitative studies of Kbar bound states in nuclei. Because the high precision measurement of the kaonic hydrogen by SIDDHARTA reduces the uncertainty of the KbarN amplitude below the KbarN threshold, the local potential should be calibrated in a wide energy region. We establish a new method to construct the local potential focusing on the behavior of the scattering amplitude in the complex energy plane. Applying this method, we construct the KbarN potential based on the chiral coupled-channel approach …
We report on a theoretical study of the pp->p Lambda K+ and pp->p Sigma0 K+ reactions near threshold using a chiral dynamical approach. The production process is described by single-pion and single-kaon exchange. The final state interactions of nucleon-hyperon, K-hyperon and K-nucleon systems are also taken into account. We show that our model leads to a fair description of the experimental data on the total cross section of the pp->p Lambda K+ and pp->p Sigma0 K+ reactions. We find that the experimental observed strong suppression of Sigma0 production compared to Lambda production at the same…
Recent CLAS data for the pi Sigma invariant mass distributions (line-shapes) in the gamma p -> K^+ pi Sigma reaction are theoretically investigated. The line-shapes have peaks associated with the Lambda(1405) excitation. Our model consists of gauge invariant photo-production mechanisms, and the chiral unitary model that gives the rescattering amplitudes where Lambda(1405) is contained. It is found that, while the pi Sigma line-shape data in the Lambda(1405) region are successfully reproduced by our model for all the charge states, the production mechanism is not so simple that we need to intro…
We include the leading charge symmetry breaking contributions into the hyperon-nucleon interactions derived within chiral effective field theory up to next-to-leading order. Two low energy constants are determined using the experimentally known differences of Lambda separation energies of 4-Lambda-He and 4-Lambda-H. This allows one to predict the Lambda-neutron scattering lengths for the first time based on data. Various sources of uncertainty are discussed.
Brueckner theory is used to investigate the properties of hyperons in nuclear matter. The hyperon-nucleon interaction is taken from chiral effective field theory at next-to-leading order with SU(3) symmetric low-energy constants. Furthermore, the underlying nucleon-nucleon interaction is also derived within chiral effective field theory. We present the single-particle potentials of Lambda and Sigma hyperons in symmetric and asymmetric nuclear matter computed with the continuous choice for intermediate spectra. The results are in good agreement with the empirical information. In particular, our…
The Lambda(1405) baryon resonance plays an outstanding role in various aspects in hadron and nuclear physics. It has been considered that the Lambda(1405) resonance is generated by the attractive interaction of the antikaon and the nucleon, as a quasi-bound state below the threshold decaying into the pi Sigma channel. Thus, the structure of Lambda(1405) is closely related to the Kbar N interaction which is the fundamental ingredient to study few-body systems with antikaon. In this paper, after reviewing the basic properties of the Lambda(1405) resonance, we introduce the dynamical coupled-chan…
The leading order strangeness S=-3 and -4 baryon-baryon interactions are analyzed within chiral effective field theory. The chiral potentials consist of contact terms without derivatives and of one-pseudoscalar-meson exchanges. Assuming SU(3) flavor symmetry those contact terms and the couplings of the pseudoscalar mesons to the baryons are related to the corresponding quantities of the S=-1 hyperon-nucleon channels. Specifically, the values of the pertinent five low-energy constants related to the contact terms are already fixed from our preceeding study of the Lambda-N and Sigma-N systems an…
The occurrence of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking (SChSB) is equivalent to sufficient abundance of Dirac near-zeromodes. However, dynamical mechanism leading to breakdown of chiral symmetry should be naturally reflected in chiral properties of the modes. Here we offer such connection, presenting evidence that SChSB in QCD proceeds via the appearance of modes exhibiting dynamical tendency for local chiral polarization. These modes form a band of finite width Lambda_ch (chiral polarization scale) around the surface of otherwise anti--polarized Dirac sea, and condense. Lambda_ch characterize…
A density-dependent effective potential for the baryon-baryon interaction in the presence of the (hyper)nuclear medium is constructed, based on the leading (irreducible) three-baryon forces derived within SU(3) chiral effective field theory. We evaluate the contributions from three classes: contact terms, one-pion exchange and two-pion exchange. In the strangeness-zero sector we recover the known result for the in-medium nucleon-nucleon interaction. Explicit expressions for the Lambda-nucleon in-medium potential in (asymmetric) nuclear matter are presented. Our results are suitable for impleme…
The Bethe-Salpeter equation is solved in the framework of unitary coupled-channel approximation by using the pseudoscalar meson-baryon octet interaction. The loop function of the intermediate meson and baryon is deduced in a dimensional regularization scheme, where the relativistic kinetic effect and off-shell corrections are taken into account. According to the experimental data at the $K^- p$ threshold, the subtraction constants in the loop function are determined. The squared amplitude is suppressed strongly and only one $Λ(1405)$ state is generated dynamically in the strangeness $S=-1$ and…
The identification of flavored multiskyrmions with the ground states of known hypernuclei is successful for several of them, e.g. for isodoublet H(Lambda) - He(Lambda), A=4, isoscalars He(Lambda) (A=5) and Li(Lambda) (A=7). In other cases agreement is not so good, but the behaviour of the binding energy with increasing baryon number is in qualitative agreement with data. Charmed or beauty hypernuclei within this approach are predicted to be bound stronger than strange hypernuclei. This conclusion is stable against variation of poorly known heavy flavor decay constants.
S-wave $K^-p$ scattering into various channels near threshold are analyzed in heavy-baryon chiral perturbation theory with $Λ(1405)$ introduced as an independent field. This is the approach that predicted the critical density $2<=ρ_c/ρ_0 <=3$ for negatively charged kaon condensation. We show that chiral perturbation expansion treating the $Λ(1405)$ as elementary is consistent with {\it all} threshold data including a double-charge-exchange process suppressed at leading order of chiral expansion in the absence of the $Λ(1405)$. We also discuss S-wave $K^+ p$ scattering phase shifts at low energ…
We analyse the quark mass dependence of the binding energy of the H-dibaryon in the framework of chiral effective field theory. We show that the SU(3) breaking effects induced by the differences of the pertinent two-baryon thresholds (Lambda-Lambda, Xi-N, Sigma-Sigma) have a very pronounced impact that need to be incorporated properly in future lattice QCD simulations. We also point out that if the H-dibaryon is a two-baryon bound state, its dominant component is Xi-N rather than Lambda-Lambda, which is a consequence of the approximate SU(3) flavor symmetry of the two-baryon interactions.
The scattering length and effective range of the piSigma channel are studied in order to characterize the strangeness S=-1 meson-baryon scattering and the Lambda(1405) resonance. We examine various off-shell dependence of the amplitude in dynamical chiral models to evaluate the threshold quantities with the constraint at the KbarN threshold. We find that the piSigma threshold parameters are important to the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance and provide further constraints on the subthreshold extrapolation of the KbarN interaction.
We have carried a theoretical study of the K^- p\to M B γreaction with M B = K^-p, \bar{K}^0 n, π^- Σ^+, π^+ Σ^-, π^0 Σ^0, π^0 Λ, for K^- lab. momenta between 200 and 500 MeV/c, using a chiral unitary approach for the strong K^-p interaction with its coupled channels. The Λ(1405) resonance, which is generated dynamically in this approach, shows up clearly in the dσ/dM_I spectrum, providing new tests for chiral symmetry and the unitary approach, as well as information regarding the nature of the resonance. The photon detection alone, summing all channels, is shown to reproduce quite accurately …
We calculate the lambda-nucleon scattering phase shifts and mixing angles by applying time-ordered perturbation theory to the manifestly Lorentz-invariant formulation of SU(3) baryon chiral perturbation theory. Scattering amplitudes are obtained by solving the corresponding coupled-channel integral equations that have a milder ultraviolet behavior compared to their non-relativistic analogs. This allows us to consider the removed cutoff limit in our leading-order calculations also in the $^3P_0$ and $^3P_1$ partial waves. We find that, in the framework we are using, at least some part of the hi…
Baryon-baryon bound states in the strangeness S=-2, S=-3, and S=-4 sectors are considered. In particular, the dependence of the corresponding binding energies on the quark mass (or equivalently the pion mass) is explored in the framework of chiral effective field theory, in order to connect with current lattice QCD calculations. For a bound state in the Xi-Xi 1S0 channel, predicted by our leading-order effective field theory interaction, binding energies are inferred that are roughly in line with a recent lattice QCD result at meson and baryon masses that correspond to those in the lattice sim…
Using the resonating group method (RGM), we dynamically study the baryon-meson interactions in chiral quark model. Some interesting results are obtained: (1) The Sigma K state has an attractive interaction, which consequently results in a Sigma K quasibound state. When the channel coupling of Sigma K and Lambda K is considered, a sharp resonance appears between the thresholds of these two channels. (2) The interaction of Delta K state with isospin I=1 is attractive, which can make for a Delta K quasibound state. (3) When the coupling to the Lambda K* channel is considered, the N phi is found t…
We study the behavior with the number of colors (Nc) of the two poles associated to the Lambda(1405) resonance obtained dynamically within the chiral unitary approach. The leading order chiral meson-baryon interaction manifests a nontrivial Nc dependence for SU(3) baryons, which gives a finite attractive interaction in some channels in the large Nc limit. As a consequence, the SU(3) singlet (Kbar N) component of the Lambda(1405) survives in the large Nc limit as a bound state, while the other components dissolve into the continuum. The Nc dependence of the decay widths shows different behavior…
The $S$-wave $ΛK$ and $ΣK$ states with isospin $I=1/2$ are dynamically investigated within the framework of the chiral SU(3) quark model by solving a resonating group method (RGM) equation. The model parameters are taken from our previous work, which gave a good description of the energies of the baryon ground states, the binding energy of the deuteron, and the experimental data of the nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) and nucleon-hyperon ($NY$) scattering. Assumed not to give important contributions in the scattering processes, the s-channel quark-antiquark ($q\bar q$) annihilation interactions are not …
By using techniques of unitarized chiral perturbation theory, where the $Λ(1405)$ and $Λ(1670)$ resonances are dynamically generated, we evaluate the magnetic moments of these resonances and their transition magnetic moment. The results obtained here differ appreciably from those obtained with existing quark models. The width for the $Λ(1670) \to Λ(1405) γ$ transition is also evaluated leading to a branching ratio of the order of $2 \times 10^{-6}$.
