We consider the pseudocritical temperatures for the chiral and deconfinement transitions within a Polyakov-loop Dyson-Schwinger equation approach which employs a nonlocal rank-2 separable model for the effective gluon propagator. These pseudocritical temperatures differ by a factor of two when the quark and gluon sectors are considered separately, but get synchronized and become coincident when their coupling is switched on. The coupling of the Polyakov-loop to the chiral quark dynamics narrows the temperature region of the QCD transition in which chiral symmetry and deconfinement is established. We investigate the effect of rescaling the parameter T_0 in the Polyakov-loop potential on the QCD transition for both the logarithmic and polynomial forms of the potential. While the critical temperatures vary in a similar way, the width of the transition is stronger affected for the logarithmic potential. For this potential the character of the transition changes from crossover to a first order one when T_0 < 210 MeV, but it remains crossover in the whole range of relevant T_0 values for the polynomial form.
The baryon-number susceptibilities is correlated to the fluctuations obtained in experiments, we can theoretically calculate the susceptibility and compare it with the experimental fluctuations data. In this paper, we calculate the baryon-number susceptibilities from the Polyakov-loop-extended Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) model, then compare them with the the heavy ion collision experimental fluctuation data and the results from other models, lattice QCD and the Dyson-Schwinger equations (DSEs) approach. Our results are in line with the experiment and very similar to the results of DSEs at experi…
A class of Polyakov-loop-modified Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (PNJL) models have been used to support a conjecture that numerical simulations of lattice-regularized quantum chromodynamics (QCD) defined with a chiral chemical potential can provide information about the existence and location of a critical endpoint in the QCD phase diagram drawn in the plane spanned by baryon chemical potential and temperature. That conjecture is challenged by conflicts between the model results and analyses of the same problem using simulations of lattice-regularized QCD (lQCD) and well-constrained Dyson-Schwinger equa…
We discuss a detailed study of the variation of shear viscosity, $η$, with temperature and baryon chemical potential within the framework of Polyakov$-$Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio model. $η$ is found to depend strongly on the spectral width of the quasi-particles present in the model. The variation of $η$ across the phase diagram has distinctive features for different kinds of transitions. These variations have been used to study the possible location of the Critical End Point (CEP), and cross-checked with similar studies of variation of specific heat. Finally using a parameterization of freeze-out s…
We present perturbative calculation of the width of the energy profile of rigid strings up to two loops in D dimensions. The perturbative expansion of the extrinsic curvature term signifying the rigidity/smoothness of the string in Polyakov-Kleinert action is taken around the free Nambu-Goto string. The mean-square width of the string field is derived for open strings with Dirichlet boundary condition. We compare the broadening of the smooth Polyakov-Kleinert string to the lattice Mont-Carlo data of the QCD flux tube just before the deconfinement point and find a good match at the intermediate…
The aim of this work is to shed light on some lesser known aspects of Polyakov-loop--extended chiral models (namely the Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio and Quark-Meson models), especially on the correlation of the quark sector with the Polyakov loop. We show that the ordering of chiral and Polyakov-loop transitions and their difference in temperature as seen in lattice QCD calculations could be realized with a critical scale of the Polyakov-loop potential that is larger than the one in pure gauge theory. The comparison of the results for the Polyakov-loop susceptibility obtained usi…
We investigate the properties of scalar and pseudo-scalar mesons at finite temperature and quark chemical potential in the framework of the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio (NJL) model coupled to the Polyakov loop (PNJL model) with the aim of taking into account features of both chiral symmetry breaking and deconfinement. The mesonic correlators are obtained by solving the Schwinger-Dyson equation in the RPA approximation with the Hartree (mean field) quark propagator at finite temperature and density. In the phase of broken chiral symmetry a narrower width for the sigma meson is obtained with respect to th…
In 1997 Diakonov, Petrov, and Polyakov, calculated the width of the exotic baryon that they called $Θ^{+}$. The prediction, $Γ(Θ^{+})\lesssim$ 15 MeV, has received considerable attention, especially in light of the narrowness of the experimentally reported $Θ^{+}$ resonance. However, there is an arithmetic error in their work: when corrected, the width estimate quoted in that paper should have been $\lesssim$~30 MeV.
In this paper we detail the thermodynamics of two flavor nonlocal Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio models for different parametrizations of the quark interaction regulators. The structure of the model is upgraded in order to allow for terms in the quark selfenergy which violate Lorentz invariance due to the presence of the medium. We examine the critical properties, the phase diagram as well as the equation of state. Furthermore, some aspects of the Mott effect for pions and sigma mesons are discussed explicitly within a nonlocal Polyakov-Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model. In particular, we continued the me…
We investigate the distance and temperatures scale for which the string in baryonic quark configuration approaches the limiting behavior of mesonic strings in pure Yang-Mills SU(3) lattice gauge theory. We calculate and compare the numerical values of the Polyakov loop correlators and the width profile of both diquark-quark $(QQ)Q$ and mesonic $Q\bar{Q}$ strings. We find the diquark-quark configuration to exhibit an identical behavior to the mesonic string for the potential and energy-density width profile for temperature near the end of QCD plateau. In the vicinity of the deconfinement point;…
We study the flux tubes produced by static quark-antiquark, quark-quark and quark-gluon charges at finite temperature in pure gauge SU(3) lattice QCD. Our sources are static and our lattice correlators are composed of fundamental and adjoint Polyakov loops. To signal the flux tubes, we compute the square densities of the chromomagnetic and chromoelectric fields with plaquettes, in a gauge invariant framework. We study the existence and non-existence of flux tubes both above and below the deconfinement phase transition temperature Tc. Using the Lagrangian density as a probability distribution, …
We investigate the chiral phase transition of the strongly interacting matter at nonzero temperature and baryon chemical potential $μ_B$ within an extended (2+1) flavor Polyakov constituent quark-meson model which incorporates the effect of the vector and axial vector mesons. The parameters of the model are determined by comparing masses and tree-level decay widths with experimental values. We examine the restoration of the chiral symmetry by monitoring the temperature evolution of condensates. We study the $T-ρ_B$ phase diagram of the model and find that a critical end point exists, although …
We investigate the QCD phase diagram and the location of the critical end point (CEP) in the SU(2) Polyakov$-$Nambu$-$Jona-Lasinio model with entanglement interaction giving special attention to the $π$ and $σ$-mesons properties, namely the decay widths $σ\rightarrowππ$, for several conditions around the CEP: we focus on the possible $σ\rightarrowππ$ decay along the isentropic trajectories close to the CEP since the hydrodynamical expansion of a heavy-ion collision fireball nearly follows trajectories of constant entropy. It is expected that the type of transition the dense medium goes through…
Pure SU(3) glue theories exhibit a deconfining phase transition at a nonzero temperature, Tc. Using lattice measurements of the pressure, we develop a simple matrix model to describe the transition region, when T > Tc. This model, which involves three parameters, is used to compute the behavior of the 't Hooft loop. There is a Higgs phase in this region, where off diagonal color modes are heavy, and diagonal modes are light. Lattice measurements of the latter suggests that the transition region is narrow, extending only to about 1.2 Tc. This is in stark contrast to lattice measurements of the …
The chiral phase transition of the strongly interacting matter is investigated at nonzero temperature and baryon chemical potential mu_B within an extended (2+1) flavor Polyakov constituent quark-meson model which incorporates the effect of the vector and axial vector mesons. The effect of the fermionic vacuum and thermal fluctuations computed from the grand potential of the model is taken into account in the curvature masses of the scalar and pseudoscalar mesons. The parameters of the model are determined by comparing masses and tree-level decay widths with experimental values in a chi^2-mini…
Using numerical simulations of lattice QCD with physical quark masses, we reveal the influence of magnetic-field background on chiral and deconfinement crossovers in finite-temperature QCD at low baryonic density. In the absence of thermodynamic singularity, we identify these transitions with inflection points of the approximate order parameters: normalized light-quark condensate and renormalized Polyakov loop, respectively. We show that the quadratic curvature of the chiral transition temperature in the ``temperature--chemical potential'' plane depends rather weakly on the strength of the bac…
After a brief introduction on QCD and effective models in the first chapter, I analyze the dependence of the QCD transition temperature on the quark (or pion) mass in the second chapter. I found that a linear sigma model, which links the transition to chiral symmetry restoration, predicts a much stronger dependence of T_c on m_pi than seen in present lattice data for m_pi >~ 0.4 GeV. On the other hand, an effective Lagrangian for the Polyakov loop requires only small explicit symmetry breaking to describe T_c(m_pi) in the above mass range. In the third and fourth chapter, I study the linear si…
Quarkonium suppression is one of the most investigated probes of the medium produced in heavy-ion collisions. In this thesis we extend the well-established and successful zero temperature framework of Non-Relativistic (NR) Effective Field Theories (EFTs) (NRQCD, pNRQCD) for the study of heavy quarkonia (production, spectroscopy, decays, ...) to finite temperatures. This is achieved by integrating out in sequence the scales that characterize a NR bound state and those that are typical of a thermal medium, in the possible hierarchies that are relevant for quarkonia in the quark-gluon plasma. Wit…
It was recently conjectured that, in SU(3) gauge theories with fundamental quarks, valence spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking is equivalent to condensation of local dynamical chirality and appearance of chiral polarization scale $Λ_{ch}$. Here we consider more general association involving the low-energy layer of chirally polarized modes which, in addition to its width ($Λ_{ch}$), is also characterized by volume density of participating modes ($Ω$) and the volume density of total chirality ($Ω_{ch}$). Few possible forms of the correspondence are discussed, paying particular attention to sing…
The transition temperature ($T_c$) of QCD is determined by Symanzik improved gauge and stout-link improved staggered fermionic lattice simulations. We use physical masses both for the light quarks ($m_{ud}$) and for the strange quark ($m_s$). Four sets of lattice spacings ($N_t$=4,6,8 and 10) were used to carry out a continuum extrapolation. It turned out that only $N_t$=6,8 and 10 can be used for a controlled extrapolation, $N_t$=4 is out of the scaling region. Since the QCD transition is a non-singular cross-over there is no unique $T_c$. Thus, different observables lead to different numeric…
