A lifting of a semilattice S is an algebra A such that the semilattice of compact (=finitely generated) congruences of A is isomorphic to S. The aim of this work is to give a categorical theory of partial algebras endowed with a partial subalgebra together with a semilattice-valued distance, that we call gamps. This part of the theory is formulated in any variety of (universal) algebras. Let V and W be varieties of algebras (on a finite similarity type). Let P be a finite lattice of order-dimension d>0. Assume that we have a diagram of semilattice with a lifting in V, but with no "partial lifting" in the category of gamps of W, then there is a semilattice S of cardinality aleph (d - 1), such that S has a lifting in V, but S has no lifting in W. We already knew a similar result for diagrams with no lifting in W, however the semilattice S constructed here has cardinality aleph d. Gamps are also used to study congruence-preserving extensions. Denote by M the variety generated by the lattice of length two, with three atoms. We construct a lattice A in M of cardinality aleph 1 with no congruence n-permutable, congruence-preserving extension, for each n > 1.
In (B-Gran, 2004), was given a categorical formulation of the Shifting Lemma which is a characterization of the Congruence Modular Varieties among all the variety of Universal Algebra, introduced in (Gumm, 1983). Starting from a characterization of this Shifting Lemma by a property of the fibers of the fibration of points $¶\EE$ (B, 2005), on the model of what happens for Mal'tsev categories, we shall investigate three directions:\\ 1) a new one: in following the golden thread of abelian split epimorphisms naturally provided by this characterization;\\ 2) a more or less expected one: in measur…
In this paper, we investigate the property (P) that finite products commute with arbitrary coequalizers in pointed categories. Examples of such categories include any regular unital or (pointed) majority category with coequalizers, as well as any pointed factor permutable category with coequalizers. We establish a Mal'tsev term condition characterizing pointed varieties of universal algebras satisfying (P). We then consider categories satisfying (P) locally, i.e., those categories for which every fibre $Pt_{\mathbb{C}}(X)$ of the fibration of points $π: Pt_{\mathbb{C}} \rightarrow \mathbb{C}$ …
Following Mitchell's philosophy, in this paper we define the analogous of the triangular matrix algebra to the context of rings with several objects. Given two additive categories $\mathcal{U}$ and $\mathcal{T}$ and $M\in \mathsf{Mod}(\mathcal{U}\otimes \mathcal{T}^{op})$ we construct the triangular matrix category $\mathbfΛ:=\left[\begin{smallmatrix} \mathcal{T} & 0 \\ M & \mathcal{U} \end{smallmatrix}\right]$. First, we prove that there is an equivalence $\Big( \mathsf{Mod}(\mathcal{T}), \mathbb{G}\mathsf{Mod}(\mathcal{U})\Big) \simeq \mathrm{Mod}(\mathbfΛ)$. One of our main results is that …
We prove that Mal'tsev and Goursat categories may be characterised through stronger variations of the Shifting Lemma, that is classically expressed in terms of three congruences $R$, $S$ and $T$, and characterises congruence modular varieties. We first show that a regular category $\mathcal C$ is a Mal'tsev category if and only if the Shifting Lemma holds for reflexive relations on the same object in $\mathcal C$. Moreover, we prove that a regular category $\mathcal C$ is a Goursat category if and only if the Shifting Lemma holds for a reflexive relation $S$ and reflexive and positive relation…
We present a notion of $Δ$-stability and stability filtration in arbitrary categories which is equivalent to the existence of Harder-Narasimhan (HN) sequences on objects. Indeed it is equivalent to the existence of a zero morphism, a partial order on objects, and a collection of some universal sequences. In additive categories embedded in an ambient triangulated category, we could obtain a numerical polynomial or central charge of objects by calculating the Euler characteristic of slope sequences and objects, inducing a partial order and HN sequences. In the case of normal projective surfaces …

In this work, we develop the theory of $k$-idempotent ideals in the setting of dualizing varieties. Several results given previously in \cite{APG} by M. Auslander, M. I. Platzeck, and G. Todorov are extended to this context. Given an ideal $\mathcal{I}$ (which is the trace of a projective module), we construct a canonical recollement which is the analog to a well-known recollement in categories of modules over artin algebras. Moreover, we study the homological properties of the categories involved in such a recollement. Consequently, we find conditions on the ideal $\mathcal{I}$ to obtain quas…
Quantitative algebras are algebras enriched in the category $\mathsf{Met}$ of metric spaces so that all operations are nonexpanding. Mardare, Plotkin and Panangaden introduced varieties (aka $1$-basic varieties) as classes of quantitative algebras presented by quantitative equations. We prove that they bijectively correspond to strongly finitary monads $T$ on $\mathsf{Met}$. This means that $T$ is the Kan extension of its restriction to finite discrete spaces. An analogous result holds in the category $\mathsf{CMet}$ of complete metric spaces. Analogously, continuous algebras are algebras enri…
We describe a general framework for prime, completely prime, semiprime, and primitive ideals of an abelian 2-category. This provides a noncommutative version of Balmer's prime spectrum of a tensor triangulated category. These notions are based on containment conditions in terms of thick subcategories of an abelian category and thick ideals of an abelian 2-category. We prove categorical analogs of the main properties of noncommutative prime spectra. Similar notions, starting with Serre subcategories of an abelian category and Serre ideals of an abelian 2-category, are developed. They are linked…
We generalize the Pierce representation theorem for (commutative) rings with unit to other algebraic categories with Definable Factor Congruences by using tools from topos theory. Of independent interest, we prove that an algebraic category with right existential definable factor congruences is coextensive if and only if has center stable by complements.
For the category $\mathscr V$ of complex algebraic varieties, the Grothendieck group of the commutative monoid of the isomorphism classes of correspondences $X \xleftarrow f M \xrightarrow g Y$ with proper morphism $f$ and smooth morphism $g$ (such a correspondence is called \emph{a proper-smooth correspondence}) gives rise to an enriched category $\mathscr Corr(\mathscr V)^+_{pro-sm}$ of proper-smooth correspondences. In this paper we extend the well-known theories of characteristic classes of singular varieties such as Baum-Fulton-MacPherson's Riemann-Roch (abbr. BFM-RR) and MacPherson's Che…
Given a perfect field of exponential characteristic $e$ and a functor $f:\mathcal A\to\mathcal B$ between symmetric monoidal strict $V$-categories of correspondences satisfying the cancellation property such that the induced morphisms of complexes of Nisnevich sheaves $$f_*:\mathbb Z_{\mathcal A}(q)[1/e]\to\mathbb Z_{\mathcal B}(q)[1/e],\quad q\geq 0,$$ are quasi-isomorphisms, it is proved that for every $k$-smooth algebraic variety $X$ the morphisms of twisted motives of $X$ with $\mathbb Z[1/e]$-coefficients $$M_{\mathcal A}(X)(q)\otimes\mathbb Z[1/e]\to M_{\mathcal B}(X)(q)\otimes\mathbb Z[…
We give new characterisations of regular Mal'tsev categories with distributive lattice of equivalence relations through variations of the so-called Triangular Lemma and Trapezoid Lemma in universal algebra. We then give new characterisations of equivalence distributive Goursat categories (which extend $3$-permutable varieties) through variations of the Triangular and Trapezoid Lemmas involving reflexive and positive relations.
We introduce and study the notion of affine varieties associated to ordered bases and establish Galois connection between the power set of $A^n_K$ and the power set of $K[x_1, . . ., x_n]$, and then induce a Galois correspondence. We generalize the idea by defining affine varieties associated to linear operators. We produce Hilbert's Nullstellensatz version for such varieties and show that there is a 1-1 correspondence between this kind of varieties in $A^n_K$ and the "usual" affine varieties in $A^n_K$. We prove that the \usual" affine varieties forms a skeleton for the category of all affine…
