The BABAR Collaboration performed a search for xi(2220) production in the initial-state radiation process e^+e^- --> gamma J/psi, J/psi --> gamma K^+K^- or J/psi --> gamma K^0_SK^0_S. No evidence for the xi(2220) resonance has been found. The 90% confidence level upper limits on the product of branching fractions are sensitive to the spin and helicity hypotheses. These upper limits are of the order 10^-5, below the values reported in previous experiments. Also at BABAR, the decays B --> J/psi pi^+ pi^- pi^0 K are studied to search for the decay X(3872) --> J/psi omega. This search yields a four standard deviation evidence for X(3872) --> J/psi omega, with product branching fractions of B(B^+ --> X(3872)K^+) x B(X(3872) --> J/psi omega)=[0.6 +- 0.2(stat) +- 0.1(syst) ] x 10^-5, and B(B^0 --> X(3872)K^0) x B(X(3872) --> J/psi omega =[0.6 +- 0.3(stat) +- 0.1(syst) ] x 10^-5. A detailed study of the pi^+ pi^- pi^0 mass distribution from X(3872) decay favors a negative-parity assignment but does not rule out the positive-parity hypothesis.
We present a study of the decays $B^{0,+}\to J/ψωK^{0,+}$ using $383\times 10^{6}$ $B\bar{B}$ events obtained with the \babar detector at PEP-II. We observe $Y(3940) \to J/ψω$, with mass $3914.6 ^{+3.8}_{-3.4} (stat) \pm{2.0} (syst)$ \mevcc, and width $34^{+12}_{-8}(stat)\pm{5}(syst)$ \mev. The ratio of $B^0$ and $B^+$ decay to $YK$ is $0.27^{+0.28}_{-0.23}(stat)^{+0.04}_{-0.01}(syst)$, and the relevant $B^0$ and $B^+$ branching fractions are reported.
We review recent experimental results on Bd and Bs mesons decays by the BaBar and Belle experiments. These include measurements of the color-suppressed decays B0bar to D(*)0h0, h0=pi0, eta, etaprime, omega, observation of the baryonic decay B0bar to Lambdac+ Lambdabar K-, measurements of the charmless decays B to eta h, h=K, pi, B to Kpi and observation of CP eigenstates in the Bs decays: B0s to J/psi f0(980), B0s to J/psi f0(1370) and B0s to J/psi eta. The theoretical implications of these results will be considered.
Using 8.5M B-anti-B events recorded by the BABAR detector the yield of inclusive J/psi, the branching ratios of psi(2S) and chi_C1 are presented. Combining the charmonium state with either a K+,KS, K*+ or K*0 exclusive B decays are reconstructed and their branching ratios determined. Using the fully reconstructed decays, both the B0 and B+ masses and their difference is measured. Finally the contributions of CP even and odd amplitudes in the decay B to J/psi K* are determined from an angular analysis.
A combined fit is performed to the BaBar and Belle measurements of the e+e- to pi+pi-psi(2S) cross sections for center-of-mass energy between threshold and 5.5 GeV. The resonant parameters of the Y(4360) and Y(4660) are determined. The mass is 4355^{+9}_{-10}\pm 9 MeV/c^2 and the width is 103^{+17}_{-15}\pm 11 MeV/c^2 for the Y(4360), and the mass is 4661^{+9}_{-8}\pm 6 MeV/c^2 and the width is 42^{+17}_{-12}\pm 6 MeV/c^2 for the Y(4660). The production of the Y(4260) in pi+pi-psi(2S) mode is found to be at 2σlevel, and B(Y(4260) to pi+pi-psi(2S))Γ_{e+e-} is found to be less than 4.3 eV/c^2 at…
Using 22.7 million BBbar events recorded with the BABAR detector, the inclusive branching fractions for the production of J/psi, psi(2S) and Chi_c in B decays are presented. Combining the charmonium state with a K+-, K0, K*+-, K*0 or neutral pion, B decays are reconstructed exlusively and branching fractions are determined. A preliminary study is also presented fot the B --> eta_c K decay mode.

Based on this data sample, we present the first study of sin(2b), with samples of B^0 --> J/psi K0S, B^0 --> psi(2S) K0S and B^0 --> J/psi K0L decays. The measured value is 0.34+-0.20+-0.05. In addition, we present preliminary measurements of charged and neutral B meson lifetimes and B^0-anti-B^0 oscillation frequency.

The BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC collected a sample of 23M B-anti-B pairs in the years 1999 and 2000. Using this data sample, we measure the amplitude of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry in neutral B decays to the CP eigenstates B0 --> J/psi K0S, B0 --> psi(2S) K0S and B0 --> J/psi K0L. We find a value of sin2beta = 0.34 +/- 0.20 (stat) +/- 0.05 (syst). We also present preliminary measurements of the B^0-anti-B^0 oscillation frequency and of the lifetimes of charged and neutral B mesons.
In this paper the studies of three different B decays to hadronic states are presented. These results are based on 1999-2003 dataset collected by the BaBar experiment at the PEP-II e+e- storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The measurements are the hadronic branching fraction of B+ -> J/psi p Lambda-bar, B0 -> J/psi p p-bar, B0 -> D*+D-, and the direct CP-asymmetry in B0 -> D0(CP) K- channels.
We present preliminary measurements of the cross sections for e+e- --> KS KL pi0 and KS KL pi0 pi0 obtained using the technique of Initial State Radiation with 469 fb^-1 of e+e- collision data collected with the BABAR detector at or near the Upsilon(4S) resonance. The resonant substructure of KS KL pi0 is investigated, and branching fractions for the decays of the charmonium resonances J/psi and psi(2S) into these final states are measured.
We report preliminary results on the measurement of branching fractions of exclusive decays of neutral and charged B mesons into two-body final states containing a charmonium state and a light strange meson. The charmonium mesons considered are J/psi, psi(2S) and chic_c1, and the light mesons are either K or K*. We use a sample of about 124 million BBbar events collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
We report measurements of charmonium resonances (J/Psi, Psi(2S),Chi_c1) using about 25 fb^-1 of data collected by the BABAR detector around the Upsilon(4S) resonance. We present measurements of inclusive charmonium production of charmonium in B decays and from the continuum, as well as exclusive branching ratios of B mesons into charmonium final states. We present also a measurement of the B0 -> K*0 gamma branching ratio and a search for the decay B0 -> gamma gamma.
We study the process $e^+e^-\to J/ψπ^{+}π^{-}$ with initial-state-radiation events produced at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider. The data were recorded with the BaBar detector at center-of-mass energies 10.58 and 10.54 GeV, and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 454 $\mathrm{fb^{-1}}$. We investigate the $J/ψπ^{+}π^{-}$ mass distribution in the region from 3.5 to 5.5 $\mathrm{GeV/c^{2}}$. Below 3.7 $\mathrm{GeV/c^{2}}$ the $ψ(2S)$ signal dominates, and above 4 $\mathrm{GeV/c^{2}}$ there is a significant peak due to the Y(4260). A fit to the data in the range 3.74 -- 5.50 $\mathrm{G…
The BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric e+e- collider has first started collecting data in May 1999. We present a preliminary measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in B^0-->J/psi K_S and B^0-->psi(2S) K_S decays recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. The data sample consists of 9.0 fb-1 collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance and 0.8 fb-1 off-resonance. One of the neutral B mesons, produced in pairs at the Upsilon(4S), is fully reconstructed. The flavor of the other neutral B meson is tagged at the time of its decay, mainly with the charge of identified leptons and kaons. The time difference between the decays is determined by measuring the …
We present preliminary results on hadronic decays of B mesons, based on data recorded at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II B-factory at SLAC. We measure branching fractions of many B decay modes, including decays to J/psi phi K, J/psi pi^+ pi^- and eta_c K final states. We report the observation of the decay B --> D_s pi^- and the first measurement of the flavor-tagged D meson production in B^0 decays. Since their preliminary nature, the results presented in this paper are based on different data samples.
We present an update of the study of the Y(4260) resonance, produced in the process $e^+e^-\toγ_{ISR} π^+π^-J/ψ$ using initial-state radiation events at the PEP-II $e^+e^-$ storage rings. This study is based on 454fb$^{-1}$ of data recorded with the {\slshape B\kern-0.1em{\smaller A}\kern-0.1em B\kern-0.1em{\smaller A\kern-0.2em R}} detector at a center-of-mass energy in the $Υ(4S)$ resonance region. From a fit with a single non-relativistic Breit-Wigner shape we obtain updated parameters for the Y(4260) resonance which are $m_Y = 4252 \pm6 ^{+2}_{-3}$MeV/c$^2$ and $Γ_Y = 105 \pm 18^{+4}_{-6}$…
The BABAR detector, which operates at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric e^+e^- collider at energies near the Y(4S) resonance, started operation on the 26th of May 1999. We present the first study of sin2beta, with samples of B0 --> J/psi K0S and B0 --> psi(2S) K0S decays, using 9.0 fb-1 of data recorded between January and July 2000 at the Y(4S) resonance and 0.8 fb-1 recorded 40 MeV below the Y(4S) resonance. A preliminary result of sin2beta = 0.12+/-0.37 (stat) +/- 0.09 (syst) was obtained. Details of the analysis are given. Moreover, we present measurements of charged and neutral B meson lifetimes…
We study the process $e^+e^-\toψ(2S)π^{+}π^{-}$ with initial-state-radiation events produced at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy collider. The data were recorded with the \BaBar detector at center-of-mass energies at and near the $Υ(\mathrm{nS})$ (n = 2, 3, 4) resonances and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 520$fb^{-}$. We investigate the $ψ(2S)π^{+}π^{-}$ mass distribution from 3.95 to 5.95 $GeV/c^{2}$, and measure the center-of-mass energy dependence of the associated $e^+e^-\to ψ(2S)π^{+}π^{-}$ cross section. The mass distribution exhibits evidence of two resonant structures. A fit to …
Recent results on the search for pentaquarks and on charmonium spectroscopy at BaBar are reviewed. The latter includes the observation of the puzzling new state X(3872) -> J/psi pi+ pi- in B decays, and the searches for X(3872) in two-body B decays and initial state radiation events.
The process e+e- --> p anti-p gamma is studied using 469 fb-1 of integrated luminosity collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II collider, at an e+e- center-of-mass energy of 10.6 GeV. From the analysis of the p anti-p invariant mass spectrum, the energy dependence of the cross section for e+e- --> p anti-p is measured from threshold to 4.5 GeV. The energy dependence of the ratio of electric and magnetic form factors, |G_E/G_M|, and the asymmetry in the proton angular distribution are measured for p anti-p masses below 3 GeV. We also measure the branching fractions for the decays J/psi -…
We report on a preliminary measurement of time-dependent CP-violating asymmetries in B0 --> J/psi K0S and B0 --> psi(2S) K0S decays recorded by the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. The data sample consisted of 9.0 fb-1 collected at the Y(4S) resonance and 0.8 fb-1 off-resonance. One of the pair of neutral B mesons produced at the Y(4S) was fully reconstructed, while the flavor of the other neutral B meson was tagged at the time of its decay. The value of the asymmetry amplitude, sin(2beta), was determined from a maximum likelihood fit to the time distribution of 120 t…

The e+e- -> p anti-p cross section is determined over a range of p anti-p masses, from threshold to 4.5 GeV/c^2, by studying the e+e- -> p anti-p gamma process. The data set corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 232 fb^-1, collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring, at an e+e- center-of-mass energy of 10.6 GeV. The mass dependence of the ratio of electric and magnetic form factors, |G_E/G_M|, is measured for p anti-p masses below 3 GeV/c^2; its value is found to be significantly larger than 1 for masses up to 2.2 GeV/c^2. We also measure J/psi -> p anti-p and psi(2S) -> …

Furthermore, recent BABAR results from an angular analysis in B -> K* l+l- are reported in which both the K* longitudinal polarization and the lepton forward-ba…

We perform the first three-dimensional measurement of the amplitudes of $B\to ψ(2S) K^*$ and $B\to χ_{c1} K^*$ decays and update our previous measurement for $B\to J/ψK^*$. We use a data sample collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP2 storage ring, corresponding to 232 million $B\bar B$ pairs. The longitudinal polarization of decays involving a $J^{PC}=1^{++}$ $χ_{c1}$ meson is found to be larger than that with a $1^{--}$ $J/ψ$ or $ψ(2S)$ meson. No direct {\it CP}-violating charge asymmetry is observed.
We present the first study of the time-dependent CP-violating asymmetry in B0 -> J/psi pi0 decays using e+e- annihilation data collected with the BaBar detector at the Upsilon(4S) resonance during the years 1999-2002 at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B Factory at SLAC. Using approximately 88 million BBbar pairs, our results for the coefficients of the cosine and sine terms of the CP asymmetry are C_(J/psi pi0) = 0.38 +/- 0.41 (stat) +/- 0.09 (syst) and S_(J/psi pi0) = 0.05 +/- 0.49 (stat) +/- 0.16 (syst).
BABAR has studied the time dependent asymmetries in the the decays B0 -> J/psi K0S and B0 -> psi(2S) K0S in a data set of 9.0 fb^-1 taken at the Y(4S)resonance. In these channels we reconstruct 168 events of which 120 are flavor tagged and used in a likelihood fit where we determine sin2beta. The flavor of the other neutral $B$ mesons is tagged using information primarily from identified leptons and Kaons. A neural network is used to recover events without any clear Kaon or lepton signature. A preliminary result of sin2beta=0.12+/-0.37+/-0.09 is obtained.
We present a study of the decays B^{0,+} --> J/psi pi^+ pi^- pi^0 K^{0,+}, using 467 10^6 BBbar pairs recorded with the BABAR detector. In a study of B+ --> J/psi gamma K+ decays, we find evidence for the radiative decay X(3872) --> J/psi gamma with a statistical significance of 3.4 sigma. We measure the product of branching fractions BF(B+ --> X(3872) K+).BF(X(3872) --> J/psi gamma) = (3.3 +/- 1.0 +/- 0.3) x 10^-6, where the uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also measure the branching fraction BF(B+ --> chi_c1 K+) = (4.9 +/- 0.2 +/- 0.4) x 10^-4. These results are obtained from (287+/-3) million BBar decays collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II B Factory at SLAC.
We study the decays B0 to J/psi pi+pi- and B+ to J/psi pi+pi0, including intermediate resonances, using a sample of 382 million BBbar pairs recorded by the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e- B factory. We measure the branching fractions B(B0 ->J/psi rho0) = (2.7 +/- 0.3 +/- 0.17) x 10-5 and B(B+ ->J/psi rho+) = (5.0 +/- 0.7 +/-0.31) x 10-5. We also set the following upper limits at the 90% confidence level: B(B0 -> J/psi pi+ π- non-resonant) < 1.2 x 10-5, B(B0 -> J/psi f_2(1270)) < 4.6 x 10-6, and B(B+ -> J/psi pi+ pi0 non-resonant) < 4.4 x 10-6. We measure the charge asymmetry in charged B dec…
We report evidence for the $B$ meson decays, $B^\pm\to J/ψηK^\pm$ and $B^0\to J/ψηK^0_S$, using {90} million $B\bar B$ events collected at the $\ensuremath{Υ{(4S)}}$ resonance with the \babar detector at the PEP-II $e^+ e^-$ asymmetric-energy storage ring. We obtain preliminary branching fractions in the charged and neutral channels of $(10.8\pm 2.3(stat.)\pm 2.4(syst.))\times 10^{-5}$ and $(8.4\pm 2.6(stat.)\pm 2.7(syst.))\times 10^{-5}$, respectively.
We present measurements of the branching fraction and time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0->J/Psi pi0 decays based on (231.8 +/- 2.6)*10^6 Upsilon(4S) -> BBbar decays collected with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory at SLAC during the years 1999-2004. We obtain a branching fraction B(B0->J/Psi pi0) = (1.94 +/- 0.22 (stat) +/- 0.17 (syst))*10^-5. We also measure the CP asymmetry parameters C = -0.21 +/- 0.26 (stat) +/- 0.09 (syst) and S = -0.68 +/- 0.30 (stat) +/- 0.04 (syst). All results presented in this paper are preliminary.
We report on exclusive decays of B mesons into final states containing charmonium using data collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage rings. The charmonium states considered here are J/psi, psi(2S), and chi_C1. Branching fractions for several exclusive final states, a measurement of the decay amplitudes for the B0 --> J/psi K* decay, and measurements of the B0 and B+ masses are presented. All of the results we present here are preliminary.
We have used a study of the process e+e- --> mu+ mu- gamma at a center-of-mass energy near the Y(4S) resonance for a mu+ mu- invariant mass range near the J/psi mass to extract the cross section sigma(e+e- --> J/psi gamma --> mu+ mu- gamma). The data set, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 88.4 fb-1, was collected using the BaBar detector at the PEP-II collider. We measure the product Gamma(J/psi --> e+e-)B(J/psi --> mu+ mu-) to be 0.330 +/- 0.008(stat) +/- 0.007(syst) keV. Using the world averages for B(J/psi --> mu+ mu-) and B(J/psi --> e+e-), we derive the J/psi electronic and tot…
We present a measurement of the decay amplitudes in B-->J/psi K^*(892) channels using 20.7 fb-1 of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. We measure a P-wave fraction R_perp = (16.0+/-3.2+/-1.4)% and a longitudinal polarization fraction (59.7+/-2.8+/-2.4)%. The measurement of a relative phase that is neither 0 nor pi, phi_ll = 2.50+/-0.20+/-0.08 radians, favors a departure from the factorization hypothesis. Although the decay B-->J/psi Kpi proceeds mainly via K^*(892), there is also evidence for K^*_2(1430) and Kpi S-wave contributions.
We present measurements of the branching fraction and time-dependent CP asymmetries in B0 -> JPsi pi0 decays based on (231.8 +/- 2.6) x 10**6 asymmetries Y(4S) -> BBbar decays collected with the BaBar detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. We obtain a branching fraction B(B0 -> JPsi pi0) = (1.94 +/- 0.22 (stat.) +/- 0.17 (syst.)) x 10**-5. We also measure the CP asymmetry parameters C = -0.21 +/- 0.26 (stat.) +/- 0.06 (syst.) and S = -0.68 +/- 0.30 (stat.) +/- 0.04 (syst.).
We present a preliminary measurement of the branching fraction for the decay of the neutral $B$ meson into the final state J/$ψπ^+π^-$. The data set contains approximately 56 million $B\bar{B}$ pairs produced at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance and recorded by the BaBar detector at the PEP-II $e^+e^-$ collider. The result of this analysis is $\mathcal{B}(B^0\to J/ψπ^+π^-$) = (5.0 $\pm$ 0.7 $\pm$ 0.6)$\times 10^{-5}$, where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic.
We reconstruct the charmonium mesons J/psi, psi(2S) and chi_C1 using a sample of 8.46 x 10^6 B-anti-B events collected by the BABAR detector operating at e^+e^- center of mass energies near the Y(4S) resonance. By measuring rates relative to the branching fraction of the J/psi, we obtain preliminary inclusive B branching fractions of (0.25+/-0.02+/-0.02)% to the psi(2S) and (0.39+/-0.04+/-0.04)% to the chi_C1, and set a 90% confidence level limit of 0.24% on decays through the chi_C2.
We study the decay B- --> J/psi K- pi+ pi- using 117 million BBbar events collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+ e- asymmetric-energy storage ring. We measure the branching fractions Br(B- --> J/psi K- pi+ pi-) = (116 +- 7 (stat.) +- 9(syst.))* 10-5 and Br(B- --> X(3872)K-)* Br (X(3872) --> J/psi pi+ pi-) =(1.28+- 0.41)* 10-5 and find the mass of the X(3872) to be 3873.4 +- 1.4 MeV/c2. We search for the h_c narrow state in the decay B- --> h_c K-, h_c --> J/psi pi+ pi- and for the decay B- --> J/psi D0 pi-, with D0 --> K- pi+. We set the 90% C.L. limits Br(B-…
Using 230 million B Bbar events recorded with the BABAR detector at the e+ e- storage rings PEP-II, we reconstruct approximately 4100 B0 to J/psi K+ pi- and 9930 B+ to J/psi K+ decays with J/psi to mu+ mu- and e+ e-. From the measured B-momentum distributions in the e+ e- rest frame, we determine the mass difference m(B0) - m(B+) = (+0.33 +- 0.05 +- 0.03) MeV/c^2.
We present results of a search for the X(3872) in B0-->X(3872)KS0,X(3872)-->J/psi pi+ pi-, improved measurements of B-->X(3872)K-, and a study of the J/psi pi+ pi- mass region above the X(3872). We use 232x106 B[overline B] pairs collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+e- asymmetric-energy storage rings. The results include the 90% confidence interval 1.34x10-6<BR(B0-->X(3872)K0,X-->J/psi pi+ pi-)<10.3x10-6 and the branching fraction BR(B-->X(3872)K-,X-->J/psi pi+ pi-)=(10.1+-2.5+-1.0)x10-6. We observe a (2.7+-1.3+-0.2)MeV/c2 mass difference of the X(3872…
