We study the Han-Kobayashi (HK) achievable sum rate for the two-user symmetric Gaussian interference channel. We find the optimal power split ratio between the common and private messages (assuming no time-sharing), and derive a closed form expression for the corresponding sum rate. This provides a finer understanding of the achievable HK sum rate, and allows for precise comparisons between this sum rate and that of orthogonal signaling. One surprising finding is that despite the fact that the channel is symmetric, allowing for asymmetric power split ratio at both users (i.e., asymmetric rates) can improve the sum rate significantly. Considering the high SNR regime, we specify the interference channel value above which the sum rate achieved using asymmetric power splitting outperforms the symmetric case.
Han-Kobayashi achievable region is the best known inner bound for a general discrete memoryless interference channel. We show that the capacity region can be strictly larger than the Han-Kobayashi region for some channel realizations, and hence the strict sub-optimality of Han-Kobayashi achievable region.
In this paper, we propose an achievable rate region for discrete memoryless interference channels with conferencing at the transmitter side. We employ superposition block Markov encoding, combined with simultaneous superposition coding, dirty paper coding, and random binning to obtain the achievable rate region. We show that, under respective conditions, the proposed achievable region reduces to Han and Kobayashi achievable region for interference channels, the capacity region for degraded relay channels, and the capacity region for the Gaussian vector broadcast channel. Numerical examples for…
The K-user flat fading MIMO interference channel with J instantaneous relays (KICJR) is considered. In the KICJR, the effective channel between sources and destinations including the relays has certain structure and is non-generic. For non-generic channels, the achievable degrees of freedom (DoF) is still unknown. Lee and Wang showed that by using the aligned interference neutralization scheme 3/2 degrees of freedom is achievable in a 2IC1R system, which is 50% more than the 2-user interference channel. But the DoF performance and achievable schemes for other KICJR networks are not investigate…
This paper looks into the $K$-user interference channel. Interference Alignment is much likely to be applied with double-layered symbol extensions, either for constant channels in the H$ø$st-Madsen-Nosratinia conjecture or slowly changing channels. In our work, the core idea relies on double-layered symbol extensions to artificially construct equivalent time-variant channels to provide crucial \textit{channel randomness or relativity} required by conventional Cadambe-Jafar scheme in time-variant channels \cite{IA-DOF-Kuser-Interference}.
This paper extends the literature on interference alignment to more general classes of deterministic channels which incorporate non-linear input-output relationships. It is found that the concept of alignment extends naturally to these deterministic interference channels, and in many cases, the achieved degrees of freedom (DoF) can be shown to be optimal.
In this work, we consider achievable secrecy rates for symmetric $K$-user ($K \ge 3$) interference channels with confidential messages. We find that nested lattice codes and layered coding are useful in providing secrecy for these channels. Achievable secrecy rates are derived for very strong interference. In addition, we derive the secure degrees of freedom for a range of channel parameters. As a by-product of our approach, we also demonstrate that nested lattice codes are useful for K-user symmetric interference channels without secrecy constraints in that they yield higher degrees of freedo…
We establish an achievable rate region for discrete memoryless interference relay channels that consist of two source-destination pairs and one or more relays. We develop an achievable scheme combining Han-Kobayashi and noisy network coding schemes. We apply our achievability to two cases. First, we characterize the capacity region of a class of discrete memoryless interference relay channels. This class naturally generalizes the injective deterministic discrete memoryless interference channel by El Gamal and Costa and the deterministic discrete memoryless relay channel with orthogonal receive…
For two-user interference channels, the capacity is known for the case where interference is stronger than the desired signal. Moreover, it is known that if the interference is above a certain level, it does not reduce the capacity at all. To achieve this capacity, the channel inputs need to be Gaussian distributed. However, Gaussian signals are continuous and unbounded. Thus, they are not well suited for practical applications. In this paper, we investigate the achievable rates if the channel inputs are restricted to finite constellations. Moreover, we will show by numerical simulations that …
We study the interaction between two interfering Gaussian 2-user multiple access channels. The capacity region is characterized under mixed strong--extremely strong interference and individually very strong interference. Furthermore, the sum capacity is derived under a less restricting definition of very strong interference. Finally, a general upper bound on the sum capacity is provided, which is nearly tight for weak cross links.
This paper elaborates on the achievable schemes of interference alignment in constant channels via finite amplify-and-forward (AF) relays. Consider $K$ sources communicating with $K$ destinations without direct links besides the relay connections. The total number of relays is finite. The objective is to achieve interference alignment for all user pairs to obtain half of their interference-free degrees of freedom. In general, two strategies are employed: coding at the edge and coding in the middle, in which relays show different roles. The contributions are that two fundamental and critical el…
An achievable rate region for certain noisy three-user-pair interference channels is proposed. The channel class under consideration generalizes the three-pair deterministic interference channel (3-DIC) in the same way as the Telatar-Tse noisy two-pair interference channel generalizes the El Gamal-Costa injective channel. Specifically, arbitrary noise is introduced that acts on the combined interference signal before it affects the desired signal. This class of channels includes the Gaussian case. The rate region includes the best-known inner bound on the 3-DIC capacity region, dominates treat…
In this paper, we study a general additive state-dependent Gaussian interference channel (ASD-GIC) where we consider two-user interference channel with two independent states known non-causally at both transmitters, but unknown to either of the receivers. An special case, where the additive states over the two links are the same is studied in [1], [2], in which it is shown that the gap between the achievable symmetric rate and the upper bound is less than 1/4 bit for the strong interference case. Here, we also consider the case where each channel state has unbounded variance [3], which is refe…
In this letter, we present the first characterization for the achievable Degrees-of-Freedom (DoF) by Blind Interference Alignment (BIA) using staggered antenna switching in the $K$-user Gaussian Interference Channel. In such scheme, each transmitter is equipped with one conventional antenna and each receiver is equipped with one reconfigurable (multi-mode) antenna. Assuming that the channel is known to the receivers only, we show that BIA can achieve $\frac{2K}{K+2}$ DoF, which surpasses the sum DoF achieved by previously known interference alignment schemes with delayed channel state informat…
In this paper, we study the state-dependent two-user interference channel, where the state information is non-causally known at both transmitters but unknown to either of the receivers. We propose two coding schemes for the discrete memoryless case: simultaneous encoding for the sub-messages in the first one and superposition encoding in the second one, both with rate splitting and Gel'fand-Pinsker coding. The corresponding achievable rate regions are established.
For a multi-user interference channel with multi-antenna transmitters and single-antenna receivers, by restricting each transmitter to Gaussian input and each receiver to a single-user detector, computing the largest achievable rate region amounts to solving a family of non-convex optimization problems. Recognizing the intrinsic connection between the signal power at the intended receiver and the interference power at the unintended receiver, the original family of non-convex optimization problems is converted into a new family of convex optimization problems. It is shown that, for such interf…
In this paper, the 3-user multiple-input multiple-output Gaussian interference channel with M antennas at each transmitter and N antennas at each receiver is considered. It is assumed that the channel coefficients are constant and known to all transmitters and receivers. A novel scheme is presented that spans a new achievable degrees of freedom region. For some values of M and N, the proposed scheme achieve higher number of DoF than are currently achievable, while for other values it meets the best known upperbound. Simulation results are presented showing the superior performance of the propo…
The aim of this paper is to study the achievable rates for a $K$ user Gaussian interference channels for any SNR using a combination of lattice and algebraic codes. Lattice codes are first used to transform the Gaussian interference channel (G-IFC) into a discrete input-output noiseless channel, and subsequently algebraic codes are developed to achieve good rates over this new alphabet. In this context, a quantity called efficiency is introduced which reflects the effectiveness of the algebraic coding strategy. The paper first addresses the problem of finding high efficiency algebraic codes. A…
The interference channel with degraded message sets (IC-DMS) refers to a communication model in which two senders attempt to communicate with their respective receivers simultaneously through a common medium, and one of the senders has complete and a priori (non-causal) knowledge about the message being transmitted by the other. A coding scheme that collectively has advantages of cooperative coding, collaborative coding, and dirty paper coding, is developed for such a channel. With resorting to this coding scheme, achievable rate regions of the IC-DMS in both discrete memoryless and Gaussian c…
An achievable rate region for the Gaussian interference channel is derived using Sato's modified frequency division multiplexing idea and a special case of Han and Kobayashi's rate region (denoted by $\Gmat^\prime$). We show that the new inner bound includes $\Gmat^\prime$, Sason's rate region $\Dmat$, as well as the achievable region via TDM/FDM, as its subsets. The advantage of this improved inner bound over $\Gmat^\prime$ arises due to its inherent ability to utilize the whole transmit power range on the real line without violating the power constraint. We also provide analysis to examine t…
This paper considers the capacity gains due to unidirectional destination cooperation in cognitive radio channels. We propose a novel channel, interference channel with degraded message sets with unidirectional destination cooperation (IC-DMS-UDC), to allow the receiver of cognitive radio (secondary user) to participate in relaying the information for primary system (legitimate user). Our main result is the development of an achievable rate region which combines Gel'fand-Pinkser coding with partial-decode-and-forward strategy employed in the relay channel. A numerical evaluation of the region …
In this paper, we propose opportunistic interference alignment (OIA) schemes for three-transmitter multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) interference channels (ICs). In the proposed OIA, each transmitter has its own user group and selects a single user who has the most aligned interference signals. The user dimensions provided by multiple users are exploited to align interfering signals. Contrary to conventional IA, perfect channel state information of all channel links is not required at the transmitter, and each user just feeds back one scalar value to indicate how well the interfering chann…
This paper studies evaluation of the capacity region for interference networks with point-to-point (p2p) capacity-achieving codes. Such capacity region has recently been characterized as union of several sub-regions each of which has distinctive operational characteristics. Detailed evaluation of this region, therefore, can be accomplished in a very simple manner by acknowledging such characteristics, which, in turn, provides an insight for a simple implementation scenario. Completely generalized message assignment which is also practically relevant is considered in this paper, and it is shown…
The interference channel achievable rate region is presented when the interference is treated as noise. The formulation starts with the 2-user channel, and then extends the results to the n-user case. The rate region is found to be the convex hull of the union of n power control rate regions, where each power control rate region is upperbounded by a (n-1)-dimensional hyper-surface characterized by having one of the transmitters transmitting at full power. The convex hull operation lends itself to a time-sharing operation depending on the convexity behavior of those hyper-surfaces. In order to …
The optimal rate region for interference networks is characterized when encoding is restricted to random code ensembles with superposition coding and time sharing. A simple simultaneous nonunique decoding rule, under which each receiver decodes for the intended message as well as the interfering messages, is shown to achieve this optimal rate region regardless of the relative strengths of signal, interference, and noise. This result implies that the Han-Kobayashi bound, the best known inner bound on the capacity region of the two-user-pair interference channel, cannot be improved merely by usi…
In this paper, we investigate the capacity of known interference channel, where the receiver knows the interference data but not the channel gain of the interference data. We first derive a tight upper bound for the capacity of this known-interference channel. After that, we obtain an achievable rate of the channel with a blind known interference cancellation (BKIC) scheme in closed form. We prove that the aforementioned upper bound in the high SNR regime can be approached by our achievable rate. Moreover, the achievable rate of our BKIC scheme is much larger than that of the traditional inter…
An Interference Channel with Generalized Feedback (IFC-GF) is a model for a wireless network where several source-destination pairs compete for the same channel resources, and where the sources have the ability to sense the current channel activity. The signal overheard from the channel provides information about the activity of the other users, and thus furnishes the basis for cooperation. In this two-part paper we study achievable strategies and outer bounds for a general IFC-GF with two source-destination pairs. We then evaluate the proposed regions for the Gaussian channel. Part I: achieva…
The two user Gaussian interference channel with a full-duplex relay is studied. By using genie aided approaches, two new upper bounds on the achievable sum-rate in this setup are derived. These upper bounds are shown to be tighter than previously known bounds under some conditions. Moreover, a transmit strategy for this setup is proposed. This strategy utilizes the following elements: Block Markov encoding combined with a Han-Kobayashi scheme at the sources, decode and forward at the relay, and Willems' backward decoding at the receivers. This scheme is shown to achieve within a finite gap our…
We analyze the achievable rate in interference-free wireless networks with physical layer fading channels and orthogonal multiple access. As a starting point, the point-to-point channel is considered. We find the optimal physical and network layer rate trade-off which maximizes the achievable overall rate for both a fixed rate transmission scheme and an improved scheme based on multiple virtual users and superposition coding. These initial results are extended to the network setting, where, based on a cut-set formulation, the achievable rate at each node and its upper bound are derived. We pro…
We analyze two-user single-antenna fading interference channels with perfect receive channel state information (CSI) and no transmit CSI. For the case of very strong interference, we prove that decoding interference while treating the intended signal as noise, subtracting the result out, and then decoding the desired signal, a process known as "stripping", achieves the diversity-multiplexing tradeoff (DMT) outer bound derived in Akuiyibo and Leveque, Int. Zurich Seminar on Commun., 2008. The proof is constructive in the sense that it provides corresponding code design criteria for DMT optimali…
In this paper, we consider the K-user interference channel with partial cooperation, where a strict subset of the K users cooperate. For the K-user interference channel with cooperating subsets of length M, the outer bound of the total degrees of freedom is KM/(M+1). In this paper, we propose a signal space-based interference alignment scheme that proves the achievability of these degrees of freedom for the case K=M+2. The proposed scheme consists of a design for the transmit precoding matrices and a processing algorithm which we call the Successive Interference Alignment (SIA) algorithm. The …
This paper studies the achievable rate region of the two-user single-input-single-output (SISO) Gaussian interference channel, when the improper Gaussian signaling is applied. Under the assumption that the interference is treated as additive Gaussian noise, we show that the user's achievable rate can be expressed as a summation of the rate achievable by the conventional proper Gaussian signaling, which depends on the users' input covariances only, and an additional term, which is a function of both the users' covariances and pseudo-covariances. The additional degree of freedom given by the pse…
In this paper, we want to derive achievable secrecy rate regions for quantum interference channel with classical inputs under one-shot setting. The main idea to this end is to use the combination of superposition and rate splitting for encoding scheme and constructing a decoding scheme based on simultaneous decoding.
In this letter, we propose the interference cancellation through interference alignment at the downlink of cognitive cellular networks. Interference alignment helps the spatial resources to be shared among primary and secondary cells and thus, it can provide higher degrees of freedom through interference cancellation. We derive and depict the achievable degrees of freedom. We also analyse and calculate the achievable sum rates applying water-filling optimal power allocation.
Consider a K-user flat fading MIMO interference channel where the k-th transmitter (or receiver) is equipped with M_k (respectively N_k) antennas. If a large number of statistically independent channel extensions are allowed either across time or frequency, the recent work [1] suggests that the total achievable degrees of freedom (DoF) can be maximized via interference alignment, resulting in a total DoF that grows linearly with K even if M_k and N_k are bounded. In this work we consider the case where no channel extension is allowed, and establish a general condition that must be satisfied by…
In this paper, we study the degrees of freedom (DoF) of the frequency-selective K-user interference channel in the presence of an instantaneous relay (IR) with multiple receive and transmit antennas. We investigate two scenarios based on the IR antennas' cooperation ability. First, we assume that the IR receive and transmit antennas can coordinate with each other, where the transmitted signal of each transmit antenna can depend on the received signals of all receive antennas, and we derive an achievable DoF for this model. In our interference alignment scheme, we divide receivers into two grou…
In this paper we analyze the interference channel as a conflict situation. This viewpoint implies that certain points in the rate region are unreasonable to one of the players. Therefore these points cannot be considered achievable based on game theoretic considerations. We then propose to use Nash bargaining solution as a tool that provides preferred points on the boundary of the game theoretic rate region. We provide analysis for the 2x2 intereference channel using the FDM achievable rate region. We also outline how to generalize our results to other achievable rate regions for the interfere…
This paper investigates the achievable rate region of the multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channel aided by intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs). We exploit the the additional design degree of freedom provided by the coordinated IRSs to enhance the desired signal and suppress interference so as to enlarge the achievable rate region of the interference channel. To this end, we jointly optimize the active transmit beamforming at the transmitters and passive reflective beamforming at the IRSs, subject to the constant modulus constraints of reflective beamforming vectors. To addr…
In this paper, we consider the discrete memoryless interference channel with common information, in which two senders need deliver not only private messages but also certain common messages to their corresponding receivers. We derive an achievable rate region for such a channel by exploiting a random coding strategy, namely cascaded superposition coding. We reveal that the derived achievable rate region generalizes some important existing results for the interference channels with or without common information. Furthermore, we specialize to a class of deterministic interference channels with c…
In this paper, we first study a two-user interference channel with generalized feedback. We establish an inner bound on its capacity region. The coding scheme that we employ for the inner bound is based on an appropriate combination of Han-Kobayash rate splitting and compress-and-forward at the senders. Each sender compresses the channel output that is observes using a compression scheme that is à-la Lim et al. noisy network coding and Avestimeher et al. quantize-map-and-forward. Next, we study an injective deterministic model in which the senders obtain output feedback only intermittently. Sp…
We consider the problem of communication over a three user discrete memoryless interference channel ($3-$IC). The current known coding techniques for communicating over an arbitrary $3-$IC are based on message splitting, superposition coding and binning using independent and identically distributed (iid) random codebooks. In this work, we propose a new ensemble of codes - partitioned coset codes (PCC) - that possess an appropriate mix of empirical and algebraic closure properties. We develop coding techniques that exploit algebraic closure property of PCC to enable efficient communication over…
We consider the slow-fading two-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channel. We want to understand which rate points can be achieved, allowing a non-zero outage probability. We do so by defining four different outage rate regions. The definitions differ on whether the rates are declared in outage jointly or individually and whether the transmitters have instantaneous or statistical channel state information (CSI). The focus is on the instantaneous CSI case with individual outage, where we propose a stochastic mapping from the rate point and the channel realization to the beam…
In this paper we analyze the effect of the calibration period, or lack of, on self-interference channel estimation in the digital domain of in-band full-duplex radio transceivers. In particular, we consider a scenario where the channel estimation must be performed without a separate calibration period, which means that the received signal of interest will act as an additional noise source from the estimation perspective. We will explicitly analyze its effect, and quantify the increase in the parameter estimation variance, or sample size, if similar accuracy for the channel estimate is to be ac…
We consider the Gaussian Dirty Tape Channel (DTC) Y=X+S+Z, where S is an additive Gaussian interference known causally to the transmitter. The general expression [max]\_top(P_U,f(.),X=f(U,S))I(U;Y) is presented for the capacity of this channel. For linear assignment to f(.), i.e. X=U-βS, this expression leads to the compensation strategy proposed previously by Willems to obtain an achievable rate for the DTC. We show that linear assignment to f(.) is optimal, under the condition that there exists a real number β^* such that the pair (X+β^* S,U) is independent of interference S. Furthermore, by…
This paper studies the value of limited rate cooperation between the transmitters for managing interference and simultaneously ensuring secrecy, in the 2-user Gaussian symmetric interference channel (GSIC). First, the problem is studied in the symmetric linear deterministic IC (SLDIC) setting, and achievable schemes are proposed, based on interference cancelation, relaying of the other user's data bits, and transmission of random bits. In the proposed achievable scheme, the limited rate cooperative link is used to share a combination of data bits and random bits depending on the model paramete…
Channel state information at the transmitter affects the degrees of freedom of the wireless networks. In this paper, we analyze the DoF for the K-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) broadcast channel (BC) with synergistic alternating channel state information at the transmitter (CSIT). Specifically, the CSIT of each user alternates between three states, namely, perfect CSIT (P), delayed CSIT (D) and no CSIT (N) among different time slots. For the K-user MISO BC, we show that the total achievable degrees of freedom (DoF) are given by $\frac{K^{2}}{2K-1}$ through utilizing the synergistic b…
A simple encoding scheme based on Sato's non-naïve frequency division is proposed for a class of Gaussian interference channels with mixed interference. The achievable region is shown to be equivalent to that of Costa's noiseberg region for the onesided Gaussian interference channel. This allows for an indirect proof that this simple achievable rate region is indeed equivalent to the Han-Kobayashi (HK) region with Gaussian input and with time sharing for this class of Gaussian interference channels with mixed interference.
The two-user Gaussian interference channel (GIC) has been extensively studied in the literature during the last four decades. The full characterization of the capacity region of the GIC is a long-standing open problem, except the case of strong or very strong interference. For general GIC's, many inner bounds have been provided over the years, among of them, the Han-Kobayashi (HK) region, is the most celebrated one. Unfortunately, the calculation of the HK region is prohibitively complex, due to the appearance of some auxiliary random variables, whose optimal choice is an open problem. As in o…
A combined technique of interference alignment (IA) and interference cancellation (IC), known as interference alignment and cancellation (IAC) scheme, has been proposed to improve the total achievable degrees of freedom (DoFs) over IA. Since it is NP-hard to solve the transceiver under a given tuple of DoFs or to maximize the total achievable DoFs in the general system configuration by IA (or IAC), the optimal transceiver cannot be obtained in polynomial time. Meanwhile, it has been known that a closed-form yet suboptimal transceiver can be designed for IAC by employing a symbol-to-symbol (STS…
We consider the Gaussian interference channel with an intermediate relay as a main building block for cooperative interference networks. On the achievability side, we consider compress-and-forward based strategies. Specifically, a generalized compress-and-forward strategy, where the destinations jointly decode the compression indices and the source messages, is shown to improve upon the compress-and-forward strategy which sequentially decodes the compression indices and source messages, and the recently proposed generalized hash-and-forward strategy. We also construct a nested lattice code bas…
The capacity region of the interference channel in which one transmitter non-causally knows the message of the other, termed the cognitive interference channel, has remained open since its inception in 2005. A number of subtly differing achievable rate regions and outer bounds have been derived, some of which are tight under specific conditions. In this work we present a new unified inner bound for the discrete memoryless cognitive interference channel. We show explicitly how it encompasses all known discrete memoryless achievable rate regions as special cases. The presented achievable region …
For the K user, single input single output (SISO), frequency selective interference channel, a new low complexity transmit beamforming design that improves the achievable sum rate is presented. Jointly employing the interference alignment (IA) scheme presented by Cadambe and Jafar in [1] and linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) decoding at the transmitters and receivers, respectively, the new IA precoding design improves the average sum rate while preserving the achievable degrees of freedom of the Cadambe and Jafar scheme, K/2.
We consider the information-theoretic optimality of treating inter-cell interference as noise in downlink cellular networks modeled as Gaussian interfering broadcast channels. Establishing a new uplink-downlink duality, we cast the problem in Gaussian interfering broadcast channels to that in Gaussian interfering multiple access channels, and characterize an achievable GDoF region under power control and treating inter-cell interference as (Gaussian) noise. We then identify conditions under which this achievable GDoF region is optimal.
In this paper, a class of broadcast interference channels (BIC) is investigated, where one of the two broadcast receivers is subject to interference coming from a point-to-point transmission. For a general discrete memoryless broadcast interference channel (DM-BIC), an achievable scheme based on message splitting, superposition and binning is proposed and a concise representation of the corresponding achievable rate region R is obtained. Two partial-order broadcast conditions interference-oblivious less noisy and interference-cognizant less noisy are defined, thereby extending the usual less n…
In this paper, we study the state-dependent two-user interference channel, where the state information is non-causally known at both transmitters but unknown to either of the receivers. We first propose two coding schemes for the discrete memoryless case: simultaneous encoding for the sub-messages in the first one and superposition encoding in the second one, both with rate splitting and Gel'fand-Pinsker coding. The corresponding achievable rate regions are established. Moreover, for the Gaussian case, we focus on the simultaneous encoding scheme and propose an \emph{active interference cancel…
We investigate the $K$-user many-to-one interference channel with confidential messages in which the $K$th user experiences interference from all other $K-1$ users, and is at the same time treated as an eavesdropper to all the messages of these users. We derive achievable rates and an upper bound on the sum rate for this channel and show that the gap between the achievable sum rate and its upper bound is $\log_2(K-1)$ bits per channel use under very strong interference, when the interfering users have equal power constraints and interfering link channel gains. The main contributions of this wo…
This paper studies the achievable rates of Gaussian interference channels with additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), when improper or circularly asymmetric complex Gaussian signaling is applied. For the Gaussian multiple-input multiple-output interference channel (MIMO-IC) with the interference treated as Gaussian noise, we show that the user's achievable rate can be expressed as a summation of the rate achievable by the conventional proper or circularly symmetric complex Gaussian signaling in terms of the users' transmit covariance matrices, and an additional term, which is a function of both…
We consider the problem of coding over the multi-user Interference Channel (IC). It is well-known that aligning the interfering signals results in improved achievable rates in certain setups involving more than two users. We argue that in the general interference problem, senders face a tradeoff between communicating their message to their corresponding decoder or cooperating with other users by aligning their signals. Traditionally, interference alignment is carried out using structured codes such as linear codes and group codes. We show through an example that the usual structured coding sch…
In this work, we derive achievable rate regions for the three-user interference channels with asymmetric transmitter cooperation and various decoding capabilities at the receivers. The three-user channel facilitates different ways of message sharing between the transmitters. We introduce two natural ways of extending the concept of unidirectional message sharing from two users to three users - (i) cumulative message sharing and (ii) primary-only message sharing. In addition, we define several cognitive interference channels based on the decoding capability of the receivers. We employ a coding …
Communicating arbitrarily correlated sources over interference channels is considered in this paper. A sufficient condition is found for the lossless transmission of a pair of correlated sources over a discrete memoryless interference channel. With independent sources, the sufficient condition reduces to the Han-Kobayashi achievable rate region for the interference channel. For a special correlation structure (in the sense of Slepian-Wolf, 1973), the proposed region reduces to the known achievable region for interference channels with common information. A simple example is given to show that …
