We study the Laplace spectra of the intrinsic instantaneous metrics on the event and cosmological horizons of a Kerr-Newman de Sitter space-time and prove that the spectral data from these horizons uniquely determine the space-time. This is accomplished by exhibiting formulae relating the parameters of the space-time metric to the traces of invariant and equivariant Green's operators associated with these Laplacians. In particular, an interesting explicit formula for the cosmological constant is found.
The Newman-Janis algorithm is well known to provide rotating black holes solutions to Einstein's equations from static seeds, through a complexification of a radial and a time coordinates. However, an ambiguity remains for the replacement of the $r^{-1}$ and $r^{-2}$ powers of the radial coordinate. We show here that the two cases are unified by a simple expression which allows its extension to the $r^{2}$ power, characteristic of the de Sitter ($dS$) and anti de Sitter ($AdS$) spacetimes. The formula leads almost automatically to the Kerr and Kerr-Newman-$dS$ and -$AdS$ metrics.
It is shown that the Kerr-Newman solution, representing charged and rotating stationary black holes, admits analytic extension at the singularity. This extension is obtained by using new coordinates, in which the metric tensor becomes smooth on the singularity ring. On the singularity, the metric is degenerale - its determinant cancels. The analytic extension can be naturally chosen so that the region with negative r no longer exists, eliminating by this the closed timelike curves normally present in the Kerr and Kerr-Newman solutions. On the extension proposed here the electromagnetic potenti…
We uniquely and explicitly reconstruct the instantaneous intrinsic metric of the Kerr-Newman Event Horizon from the spectrum of its Laplacian. In the process we find that the angular momentum parameter, radius, area; and in the uncharged case, mass, can be written in terms of these eigenvalues. In the uncharged case this immediately leads to the unique and explicit determination of the Kerr metric in terms of the spectrum of the event horizon. Robinson's ``no hair" theorem now yields the corollary: One can ``hear the shape" of noncharged stationary axially symmetric black hole space-times by l…
The Carter tensor is a Killing tensor of the Kerr-Newman spacetime, and its existence implies the separability of the wave equation. Nevertheless, the Carter operator is known to commute with the D'Alembertian only in the case of a Ricci-flat metric. We show that, even though the Kerr-Newman spacetime satisfies the non-vacuum Einstein-Maxwell equations, its curvature and electromagnetic tensors satisfy peculiar properties which imply that the Carter operator still commutes with the wave equation. This feature allows to adapt to Kerr-Newman the physical-space analysis of the wave equation in Ke…
We derive the equations governing the linear stability of Kerr-Newman spacetime to coupled electromagnetic-gravitational perturbations. The equations generalize the celebrated Teukolsky equation for curvature perturbations of Kerr, and the Regge-Wheeler equation for metric perturbations of Reissner-Nordström. Because of the "apparent indissolubility of the coupling between the spin-1 and spin-2 fields", as put by Chandrasekhar, the stability of Kerr-Newman spacetime can not be obtained through standard decomposition in modes. Due to the impossibility to decouple the modes of the gravitational …
Quantitative versions of mode stability type statements for the wave equation on Kerr-Newman black holes are proven for the full sub-extremal range. The mode stability result on the real axis is then applied to prove integrated local energy decay for solutions restricted to a bounded frequency regime. This is an important element of the proof of unrestricted boundedness and decay statements, presented in a forthcoming companion paper.
We investigate the local energy decay of solutions of the Dirac equation in the non-extreme Kerr-Newman metric. First, we write the Dirac equation as a Cauchy problem and define the Dirac operator. It is shown that the Dirac operator is selfadjoint in a suitable Hilbert space. With the RAGE theorem, we show that for each particle its energy located in any compact region outside of the event horizon of the Kerr-Newman black hole decays in the time mean.
In this short paper, we review the Dirac equation on the zero-gravity Kerr-Newman spacetime. Our main objective is to provide a correspondence between the classification of the bound states for the zGKN spectrum and the usual hydrogenic states $1s_{1/2}$, $2s_{1/2}$, etc. of the Hydrogen atom.
In this paper we compute the square root of the generalized squared total angular momentum operator $J$ for a Dirac particle in the Kerr-Newman metric. The separation constant $λ$ arising from the Chandrasekahr separation ansatz turns out to be the eigenvalue of $J$. After proving that $J$ is a symmetry operator, we show the completeness of Chandrasekhar Ansatz for the Dirac equation in oblate spheroidal coordinates and derive an explicit formula for the propagator $e^{-itH}$.
The results of a study of Dirac's Hamiltonian for a point electron in the zero-gravity Kerr--Newman spacetime are reported; here, "zero-gravity" means G to 0, where G is Newton's constant of universal gravitation, and the limit is effected in the Boyer--Lindquist coordinate chart of the maximal analytically extended, topologically nontrivial, Kerr--Newman spacetime. In a nutshell, the results are: the essential self-adjointness of the Dirac Hamiltonian; the reflection symmetry about zero of its spectrum; the location of the essential spectrum, exhibiting a gap about zero; and (under two smalln…
We provide the full asymptotic description of the quasi-normal modes (resonances) in any strip of fixed width for Dirac fields in slowly rotating Kerr-Newman-de Sitter black holes. The resonances split in a way similar to the Zeeman effect. The method is based on the extension to Dirac operators of techniques applied by Dyatlov 2011, 2012 to the (uncharged) Kerr-de Sitter black holes. We show that the mass of the Dirac field does not have effect on the two leading terms in the expansions of resonances.
We discuss the limit of vanishing $G$ (Newton's constant of universal gravitation) of the maximal analytically extended Kerr--Newman electrovacuum spacetimes {represented in Boyer--Lindquist coordinates}. We investigate the topologically nontrivial spacetime emerging in this limit and show that it consists of two copies of flat Minkowski spacetime glued at a timelike solid cylinder. As $G\to 0$, the electromagnetic fields of the Kerr-Newman spacetimes converge to nontrivial solutions of Maxwell's equations on this background spacetime. We show how to obtain these fields by solving Maxwell's eq…
We show the existence of exponentially growing finite energy solutions for the charged Klein-Gordon equation on the De Sitter-Kerr-Newman metric for small charge and mass of the field and small angular momentum of the black hole. The mechanism behind is that the zero resonance that exists for zero charge, mass and angular momentum moves into the upper half plane.
Exact solutions of the Dirac general relativistic equation (DE) that describe the dynamics of a massive, electrically charged particle with half-integer spin in the curved spacetime geometry of an electrically charged, rotating Kerr-Newman-(anti) de Sitter black hole (BH) are investigated. We first, derive the DE in the Kerr-Newman-de Sitter (KNdS) BH background using a generalised Kinnersley null tetrad in the Newman-Penrose formalism. In this frame, we prove the separation of the DE into ordinary differential equations for the radial and angular parts. Under specific transformations of the i…
Dirac's wave equation for a point electron in the topologically nontrivial maximal analytically extended electromagnetic Kerr--Newman spacetime is studied in a zero-gravity limit; here, "zero-gravity" means $G\to 0$, where $G$ is Newton's constant of universal gravitation. The following results are obtained: the formal Dirac Hamiltonian on the static spacelike slices is essentially self-adjoint; the spectrum of the self-adjoint extension is symmetric about zero, featuring a continuum with a gap about zero that, under two smallness conditions, contains a point spectrum. Some of our results exte…
