We point out a basic difficulty in the construction of little-Higgs models with T-parity which is overlooked by large part of the present literature. Almost all models proposed so far fail to achieve their goal: they either suffer from sizable electroweak corrections or from a breakdown of collective breaking. We provide a model building recipe to bypass the above problem and apply it to build the simplest T-invariant extension of the Littlest Higgs. Our model predicts additional T-odd pseudo-Goldstone bosons with weak scale masses.
Bilinear R-parity violation is a simple extension of the MSSM allowing for Majorana neutrino masses. One of the three neutrinos picks up mass by mixing with the neutralinos of the MSSM, while the other two neutrinos gain mass from 1-loop corrections. Once 1-loop corrections are carefully taken into account the model is able to explain solar and atmospheric neutrino data for specific though simple choices of the R-parity violating parameters.
The Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) is plagued by two major fine-tuning problems: the mu-problem and the proton decay problem. We present a simultaneous solution to both problems within the framework of a U(1)'-extended MSSM (UMSSM), without requiring R-parity conservation. We identify several classes of phenomenologically viable models and provide specific examples of U(1)' charge assignments. Our models generically contain either lepton number violating or baryon number violating renormalizable interactions, whose coexistence is nevertheless automatically forbidden by the new U(…
We show that in an SU(3)_c\times [SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y]\times [SU(2)'_R\times U(1)'_Y] framework, the parity symmetry motivated by solving the strong CP problem without resorting to an axion can predict a dark matter particle with a mass around 302 GeV. This dark matter candidate can be directly detected in the presence of a U(1)_Y\times U(1)'_Y kinetic mixing. Furthermore, our model can accommodate a natural way to simultaneously realize an inverse-linear seesaw for neutrino masses and a resonant leptogenesis for baryon asymmetry.
Based on the R-parity violation option of the minimal supersymmetric Standard Model, we examine the scenario where the massive gravitino, relic from the hot big-bang, is the lightest supersymmetric particle and can decay through one or several of the trilinear R-parity violating interactions. We calculate the rates of the gravitino decay via the various three-body decay channels with final states involving three quarks and/or leptons. By taking into account the present constraints on the trilinear R-parity violating coupling constants and assuming the gravitino and scalar superpartner masses d…
There is a natural solution to the strong CP problem in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model if it arises from a parity symmetric theory which is spontaneously broken to MSSM at Planck, GUT or intermediate scales. The strong CP phase is zero at the tree level and is not induced to two loops. The SUSY phase problems are also solved. The universal soft SUSY breaking parameters A, B, μ, m_{1/2} are all automatically real and the only additional CP violation effects of the low-energy MSSM are characterized by a Hermitian squark mass matrix whose phases depend on the CKM phase. Cases with non-…

We propose a simultaneous solution to the strong CP problem and the SUSY phase problem based on parity symmetry realized when the supersymmetric standard model is embedded into a left-right symmetric framework at a scale near 2 x 10^{16} GeV, as suggested by neutrino masses and gauge coupling unification. In this class of models, owing to parity, SUSY contributions to the muon anomalous magnetic moment can be naturally large without conflicting with the EDM of the electron and the neutron. The strong CP violation parameter θis zero at the tree level, also due to parity (P), but is induced due …
A beyond the standard model theory that respects parity symmetry at short distances is known to provide a solution to the strong CP problem without the need for an axion, while keeping the CKM phase unconstrained. In this paper we present a supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified embedding of this idea with Yukawa couplings generated by {\bf 10}, ${\bf \overline{126}}$ and {\bf 120} Higgs fields. This model is known to provide a unified description of masses and mixings of quarks and leptons. When CP symmetry is imposed on this model, the discrete gauge subgroup C of SO(10) combines with it to gen…
We show that Ma's scotogenic model, which is arguably one of the simplest settings containing a Dark Matter candidate and generating a naturally suppressed active neutrino mass at 1-loop level, suffers from a potentially severe hierarchy-type problem. In case the right-handed neutrinos involved have sufficiently large masses, they can via loop effects drive the mass parameter of the inert scalar contained in the model towards negative values. This behaviour leads to a breaking of the $\mathbb{Z}_2$ parity symmetry built into the model which is paramount to keeping the setting consistent at low…
Models with spontaneously broken parity symmetry can solve the strong $CP$ problem in a natural way. We construct such a model in the context of $\SU3^3$ unification. Parity has the conventional meaning in this model, and the gauge group is unified.
Scenarios with gravitino dark matter face potential cosmological problems induced by the presence of the Next-to-Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (NLSP) at the time of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN). A very simple, albeit radical, solution to avoid all these problems consists on assuming that R-parity is slightly violated, since in this case the NLSP decays well before the onset of BBN. Remarkably, even if the gravitino is no longer stable in this scenario, it still constitutes a very promising dark matter candidate. In this talk we review the motivations for this scenario and we present a mod…
We revisit the minimal supersymmetric left-right model with B-L=2 triplet Higgs fields and show that a self-consistent picture emerges with automatic R-parity conservation even in the absence of higher dimensional operators. By computing the effective potential for the Higgs system including heavy Majorana neutrino Yukawa couplings we show that the global minimum of the model can lie in the charge and R-parity conserving domain. The model provides natural solutions to the SUSY phase problem and the strong CP problem and makes several interesting predictions. Quark mixing angles arise only afte…
One class of solutions to the strong CP problem relies on generalized parity symmetries. A minimal model of this type, constructed by Babu and Mohapatra and based on a softly broken parity symmetry, has the remarkable property that effective QCD vacuum angle $\barθ$ vanishes up to one-loop order. We compute the leading two-loop contributions to $\barθ$ in this model and estimate subleading contributions. In contrast to previous estimates, we argue that $\bar θ$ is not suppressed by the weak scale, and we find contributions of order $10^{-3}$-$10^{-2}$ multiplying unknown mixing angles and phas…
The strong interaction effects of isospin- and spin-dependent nucleon-nucleon correlations observed in many-body calculations are interpreted in terms of a one-pion exchange mechanism. Including such effects in computations of nuclear parity violating effects leads to enhancements of about 10%. A larger effect arises from the one-boson exchange nature of the parity non-conserving nucleon- nucleon interaction, which depends on both weak and strong meson-nucleon coupling constants. Using values of the latter that are constrained by nucleon-nucleon phase shifts leads to enhancements of parity vio…
Recent advances in interpreting the most accurate to-date measurement of atomic parity violation in Cs are reviewed. The inferred nuclear weak charge, Q_W = - 72.65(28)_expt (36)_theor, agrees with the prediction of the standard model at 1 sigma level. Further improved interpretation is limited by an accuracy of solving basic correlation problem of atomic structure. We report on our progress in solving this problem within the relativistic coupled-cluster formalism. We include single-, double- and triple- electronic excitations in the coupled-cluster expansion. Numerical results for energies, e…
We extend the Standard Model (SM) with parity symmetry, motivated by the strong CP problem and dark matter. In our model, parity symmetry is conserved at high energy by introducing a mirror sector with the extra gauge symmetry, $ SU(2)_R \times U(1)_R$. The charges of $SU(2)_R \times U(1)_R$ are assigned to the mirror fields in the same way as in the SM, but the chiralities of the mirror fermions are opposite to respect the parity symmetry. The strong CP problem is resolved, since the mirror quarks are also charged under the $SU(3)_c$ in the SM. In the minimal setup, the mirror gauge symmetry …
We find a solution to the Strong CP problem that may be testable at the LHC and future colliders. In this solution CP is broken by parity conserving terms, while parity breaking VEVs conserve CP. The quark mass matrix is Hermitian at the tree-level and strong CP phase is generated only in loops where CP and P violating sectors interact. A full vector-like quark family with parity symmetric mass-terms that violate CP softly is predicted. Since no Higgs VEVs (other than the SU(2)_L breaking weak-scale VEV) contribute to the masses of the new quarks, they can be naturally light, independent of pa…
