We evaluate the rare radiative kaon decays K_{L,S} -> 3 gamma. Applying the requirements of gauge invariance and Bose symmetry, we derive a general form of the decay amplitude, including both parity-conserving and parity-violating contributions. We employ a chiral-Lagrangian approach combined with dimensional analysis arguments to estimate the branching ratios of these decays in the standard model, obtaining values as large as B(K_L -> 3 gamma) ~ 1 x 10^{-14} and B(K_S -> 3 gamma) ~ 2 x 10^{-17}, which exceed those found previously by a few orders of magnitude. Measurements on the branching ratios which are significantly larger than these numbers would likely hint at the presence of new physics beyond the standard model.
We revisit the global QCD analysis of parton-to-kaon fragmentation functions at next-to-leading order accuracy using the latest experimental information on single-inclusive kaon production in electron-positron annihilation, lepton-nucleon deep-inelastic scattering, and proton-proton collisions. An excellent description of all data sets is achieved, and the remaining uncertainties in parton-to-kaon fragmentation functions are estimated and discussed based on the Hessian method. Extensive comparisons to the results from our previous global analysis are made.
Forward-backward (charge) asymmetry in the processes of $e^+e^-$ annihilation into a pair of charged pseudoscalar mesons is recalculated in the one-loop approximation. The exact dependence on the meson masses is taken into account. Results known in the literature are partially corrected. The bulk of the charge asymmetry appears due to double-photon exchange in $s$ channel. Experimental studies of the asymmetry can be used to verify the point-like approximation used in calculation of radiative corrections due to emission of photons by pions or kaons.
We examine effects of final state interactions (FSI) in kaon decays using a new scheme without the Omnes function, and show that while Delta I=1/2 rule is impossible to be explained in terms of FSI alone, $ε'/ε\sim 16.5\times 10^{-4}$ is obtained through FSI, if the calculation is concerned only with the CP-violating parts. The pi-pi contribution to the m_L-m_S mass difference is shown to be about 0.14, if the sizes of the CP conserving amplitudes A_0 and A_2 are correctly given.
We present an updated discussion of $K\raπ\bar{l} l$ decays in a combined framework of chiral perturbation theory and Large--$N_c$ QCD, which assumes the dominance of a minimal narrow resonance structure in the invariant mass dependence of the $ \bar{l} l$ pair. The proposed picture reproduces very well, both the experimental $K^+\raπ^+ e^+ e^-$ decay rate and the invariant $e^+ e^-$ mass spectrum. The predicted Br$(K_S\raπ^0 e^+ e^-)$ is, within errors, consistent with the recently reported result from the NA48 collaboration. Predictions for the $K\raπμ^{+}μ^{-}$ modes are also obtained. We f…
We analyse the impact of the recent measurement of kaonic hydrogen X rays by the SIDDHARTA collaboration on the allowed ranges for the kaon-deuteron scattering length in the framework of non-relativistic effective field theory. Based on data from KN scattering only, we predict the kaon-deuteron scattering length A_Kd= (-1.46 + i 1.08) fm, with an estimated uncertainty of about 25% in both the real and the imaginary part.
The anti-kaon nucleon system close to threshold is analyzed in view of the new accurate DEAR kaonic hydrogen data. The calculations are performed using chiral SU(3) effective field theory in combination with non-perturbative schemes based on coupled channels. Several variants of such approaches are compared with experimental data and the differences in the results are discussed. Coulomb and isospin breaking effects turn out to be important and are both taken into account. The pole structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance close to the anti-kaon nucleon threshold is critically examined.
We study the S-wave kaon-nucleon interactions for strangeness S=-1 in a novel relativistic chiral unitary approach based on coupled channels. Dispersion relations are used to perform the necessary resummation of the lowest order relativistic chiral Lagrangian. A good description of the data in the K^- p, πΣand πΛchannels is obtained. We show how this method can be systematically extended to higher orders, emphasizing its applicability to any scenario of strong self-interactions where the perturbative series diverges even at low energies. Discussions about the differences to existing approaches…
The European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) has recently approved a world-unique QCD facility in which an updated version of the external M2 beam line of the CERN SPS in conjunction with a universal spectrometer of the COMPASS experiment is used. One of its main goals is to use highly intense and energetic kaon beams to map out the complete spectrum of excited kaons with an unprecedented precision; having a broad impact not only on low-energy QCD phenomenology, but also on many high-energy particle processes where excited kaons appear, such as the study of CP violation in heavy-meson…
Two-body decays of B mesons are studied by decomposing their amplitude into a sum of factorizable and non-factorizable ones. The former is estimated by using the naive factorization while the latter is calculated by using a hard pion (or kaon) approximation in the infinite momentum frame. It is seen that the non-factorizable contribution is small but not negligible in color favored decays while it is more important in color mismatched decays.
Rare leptonic kaon and pion decays $K^+(π^+) \to μ^+\, ν_μ\, e^+ e^-$ can be used to probe a dark photon of mass ${\cal O}(10)$~MeV, with the background coming from the mediation of a virtual photon. This is most relevant for the 16.7-MeV dark photon proposed to explain a 6.8$σ$ anomaly recently observed in $^8$Be transitions by the Atomki Collaboration. We evaluate the reach of future experiments for different scenarios of how the dark photon couples with the standard model particles, and show that a great portion of the preferred 16.7-MeV dark photon parameter space can be decisively probed.…
We present a comprehensive analysis on the MSSM Higgs sector CP violation at photon colliders including the chargino contributions as well as the contributions of other charged particles. The chargino loop contributions can be important for the would-be CP odd Higgs production at photon colliders. Polarization asymmetries are indispensable in determining the CP properties of neutral Higgs bosons.
We investigate the virtual photon structure function in the supersymmetric QCD (SQCD), where we have squarks and gluinos in addition to the quarks and gluons. Taking into account the heavy particle mass effects to the leading order in QCD and SQCD we evaluate the photon structure function and numerically study its behavior for the QCD and SQCD cases.
Motivated by recent experimental results and ongoing measurements, we review the chiral perturbation theory prediction for radiative Ke3 decays (neutral kaons). Special emphasis is given on the stability of the inner bremsstrahlung-dominated relative branching ratio vs. the Ke3 form factors, and on the separation of the structure dependent amplitude in differential distributions over the phase space. For the structure dependent terms, an assessment of the order p^6 corrections is given. In particular, a full next-to-leading order calculation of the axial component is performed. The experimenta…
The standard additive quark model and the ensuing counting rules are modified to take into account the quark-gluonic content of the Pomeron and of the secondary Reggeons. The result is that a much improved description of $pp, πp, γp$ and $γγ$ cross-sections is achieved.
In view of ongoing experimental activities to determine the pion polarizabilities, we have started to recalculate the available two-loop expressions in the framework of chiral perturbation theory, because they have never been checked before. We make use of the chiral Lagrangian at order p^6 now available, and of improved techniques to evaluate the two-loop diagrams. Here, we present the result for the neutral pions. The cross section for the reaction gamma+gamma->pi0+pi0 agrees with the earlier calculation within a fraction of a percent. We present analytic results for the dipole and quadrupol…
It is stressed that a measurement of the electric dipole amplitude for direct photon emission in $\kpm$ decays through its interference with inner bremsstrahlung is important for differentiating among various models. Effects of amplitude CP violation in the radiative decays of the charged kaon are analyzed in the Standard Model in conjunction with the large $N_c$ approach. We point out that gluon and electromagnetic penguin contributions to the CP-violating asymmetry between the Dalitz plots of $\kpm$ are of equal weight. The magnitude of CP asymmetry ranges from $2\times 10^{-6}$ to $1\times …
We consider the $a_{1} (1260)$ contribution to photon and dilepton productions from hot hadronic matter. The effective lagrangian with $π, ρ$ and $a_{1}$ discussed by Ko and Rudaz is employed, which successfully reproduces the $Γ(a_{1} \rightarrow πγ) = 670$ keV. Our results for the photon production rate are comparable to those obtained by Xiong {\it et al.}, while the dilepton production rates come out smaller than those obtained by Gale {\it et al.} by an order of magnitude.
We apply the modern multiloop methods to the calculation of the total cross sections of electron-positron annihilation to 2 and 3 photons exactly in $s/m^2$ with the accuracy $O(α^3)$. Examining the asymptotics of our results, we find agreement with Ref. [Andreassi_et_al_1962] and discover mistakes in the results of Refs. [Eidelman&Kuraev_1978,Berends&Kleiss_1981]. This mistake is due to the terms, omitted in differential cross section in Refs. \[Eidelman&Kuraev_1978,Berends&Kleiss_1981], which are peaked in the kinematic region with all three photons being quasi-parallel to the collision axis…
I present new results for the Standard-Model predictions of the differential decay rates for $H\to \ell^{+} \ell^{-} γ$, where $\ell=e, μ$, and the forward-backward asymmetries defined in terms of the flight direction of the photon corresponding to the lepton momenta. The results dependend on the cuts on energies and invariant masses of the final state particles. For standard choices of these cuts the branching ratios $B(H\to e \bar e γ)=5.8\cdot 10^{-5}$ and $B(H\to μ\bar μγ)=6.4\cdot 10^{-5}$ as well as the forward-backward asymmetries $\mathcal{A}^{(e)}_{\text{FB}}=0.343$ and $\mathcal{A}^{…
For high precision measurements of K decays, the presence of radiated photons cannot be neglected. The Monte Carlo simulations must include the radiative corrections in order to compute the correct event counting and efficiency calculations. In this paper we briefly describe a method for simulating such decays.
Two photon processes are a wonderful by-product of an $e^+e^-$ collider at any energy. Two photon reactions probe the very structure of matter. A machine operating below 2 GeV has the potential to reveal the Higgs sector of the strong interaction -- the scalars with vacuum quantum numbers that reflect dynamical mass generation from the breakdown of chiral symmetry. One of the many $e^+e^-$ machines around the globe must have a dedicated $γγ$ facility.
The flux of papers from electron positron colliders containing data on the photon structure function ended naturally around 2005. It is thus timely to review the theoretical basis and confront the predictions with a summary of the experimental results. The discussion will focus on the increase of the structure function with x (for x away from the boundaries) and its rise with log Q**2, both characteristics beeing dramatically different from hadronic structure functions. The agreement of the experimental observations with the theoretical calculations of the real and virtual photon structure is …
With anomalies found in cosmic ray observations and unsolved questions of the Standard Model of particle physics like the discrepancy in the muon's anomalous magnetic moment, the idea of an U(1) extension of the Standard Model arose. This extension allows for the interaction of Dark Matter by exchange of a photon-like massive force carrier $A'$ not included in the Standard Model. We discuss the possibility to constrain the dark photon parameter space by using data taken from rare kaon decays. Therefore we analyze the decay $K\rightarrow μνA'$ as a signal process and calculate the expected Stan…
We present the next-to-next-to-leading order ($αα_s^2$) corrections to the first moment of the polarized virtual photon structure function $g_1^γ(x,Q^2,P^2)$ in the kinematical region $Q^2\gg P^2 \gg Λ^2$ in QCD. We find that the $αα_s^2$ corrections are about 3% of the sum of the leading ($α$) and the next-to-leading ($αα_s$) contributions, when $Q^2=30\sim 100 {\rm GeV}^2$ and $P^2=3 {\rm GeV}^2$.
The photon magnetic moment for radiation propagating in magnetized vacuum is defined as a pseudo-tensor quantity, proportional to the external electromagnetic field tensor. After expanding the eigenvalues of the polarization operator in powers of $k^2$, we obtain approximate dispersion equations (cubic in $k^2$), and analytic solutions for the photon magnetic moment, valid for low momentum and/or large magnetic field. The paramagnetic photon experiences a red shift, with opposite sign than the gravitational one, which differs for parallel and perpendicular polarizations. It is due to the drain…
A theoretical model of the reactions e+ e- --> K+ K- gamma and e+ e- --> K0 K0bar gamma has been derived. The strong interaction between kaons is taken into account using a general form of the K Kbar scattering amplitude. It is shown that some models formulated in the past are particular cases of the present approach. The formulae for the K Kbar effective mass dependence of the differential cross section as well as for the angular kaon and photon distributions and for the branching fractions of the phi(1020)--> K+ K- gamma and phi(1020)--> K0 K0bar gamma decays have been obtained. We present n…
The one-loop calculation of the amplitude for the Higgs decay H-->γγ due to virtual W's in the unitary gauge is presented. As the Higgs does not directly couple to the massless photons, the one-loop amplitude is finite. The calculation is performed in a straightforward way, without encountering divergences. In particular, artifacts like dimensional regularization are avoided. This is achieved by judiciously routing the external momenta through the loop and by combining the integrands of the amplitudes before carrying out the integration over the loop momentum. The present result satisfies the …
In the presence of photons, the neutral $K_{\ell 4}$ decay, $K^0\toπ^0π^-\ell^+ν_\ell$, can be parameterized in terms of three vectorial, one anomalous, and one tensorial form factors. We present here analytic expressions of two vectorial form factors, $f$ and $g$, calculated at one-loop level in the framework of chiral perturbation theory based on the effective Lagrangian including mesons, photons, and leptons. These expressions may then be used to disentangle the Isospin breaking part from the measured form factors and hence improve the accuracy in the determination of $ππ$ scattering parame…
The Bose-Einstein correlations of photons emitted {}from a longitudinally expanding system of excited matter produced in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collision are studied. Two effects found in recent calculations -- that the correlation function in longitudinal direction exhibits oscillations, and that it takes values below unity -- are demonstrated to be numerical artefacts and/or the results of inappropriate approximations. Thus, the general quantum statistical bounds for the two particle correlation function of a chaotic source with Gaussian fluctuations are confirmed. Two different express…
We study the resummation of large logarithmic perturbative corrections to the partonic cross sections relevant for the process pp->gamma X at high transverse momentum of the photon. These corrections arise near the threshold for the partonic reaction and are associated with soft-gluon emission. We especially focus on the resummation effects for the contribution to the cross section where the photon is produced in jet fragmentation. Previous calculations in perturbation theory at fixed-order have established that this contribution is a subdominant part of the cross section. We find, however, tha…
An expression for the Dalitz plot of the semileptonic decay of a charged kaon, including radiative corrections to order O[απ)(q/M_1)], where q is the four-momentum transfer and M_1 is the mass of the decaying kaon, is obtained. Contributions of both the three- and four-body regions are accounted for. Besides, the emitted muon is considered to be polarized so the analysis is also focused on evaluating the radiative corrections to the longitudinal, transverse, and normal polarization components of the muon. The final formulas, with the triple integration of the bremsstrahlung photon variables re…
We analyze the coupling of CP-even and CP-odd Higgs bosons to a photon and a Z boson in extensions of the Standard Model. In particular, we study in detail the effect of charged Higgs bosons in two-Higgs doublet models, and the contribution of SUSY particle loops in the minimal supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model. The Higgs-$γZ$ coupling can be measured in the decay $Z \to γ$+Higgs at $e^+e^-$ colliders running on the Z resonance, or in the reverse process Higgs $\to Z γ$ with the Higgs boson produced at LHC. We show that a measurement of this coupling with a precision at the percen…
We study the role of magnetic interaction in the photoproduction of the kaon and hyperon. We find that the inclusion of a higher order diagram induced by the Wess-Zumio-Witten term has a significant contribution to the magnetic amplitude, which is compatible to the observed photon asymmetry in the forward angle region. This enables us to use the K^* coupling constants which have been determined in a microscopic way rather than the phenomenological ones which differ largely from the microscopic ones.
We present new calculations of the differential decay rates for $H\to \ell^+\ell^- γ$ with $\ell=e$ or $μ$ in the Standard Model. The branching fractions and forward-backward asymmetries, defined in terms of the flight direction of the photon relative to the lepton momenta, depend on the cuts on energies and invariant masses of the final state particles. For typical choices of these cuts we find the branching ratios $B(H\to e \bar e γ)=5.8\cdot 10^{-5}$ and $B(H\to μ\bar μγ)=6.4\cdot 10^{-5}$ and the forward-backward asymmetries $\mathcal{A}^{(e)}_{\text{FB}}=0.343$ and $\mathcal{A}^{(μ)}_{\te…
The amplitude of the Dalitz decay pi0 -> e+ e gamma is studied and its model-independent properties are discussed in detail. A calculation of radiative corrections is performed within the framework of two-flavour chiral perturbation theory, enlarged by virtual photons and leptons. The lowest meson dominance approximation, motivated by large N\_C considerations, is used for the description of the pi0 - gamma* - gamma* transition form factor and for the estimate of the NLO low energy constants involved in the analysis. The two photon reducible contributions is included and discussed. Previous ca…
We evaluate the photon spectra from the reaction $πρ\ra πγ$ for the exchange of $π$, $ρ$, $ω$, $ϕ$ and $a_1$ as intermediary mesons. It is found that the contributions from the intermediary $a_1$ is more than any other meson exchange processes up to photon energies 2.5 GeV.
One-loop contributions to the decay $H\rightarrow ν_l\barν_lγ$ with $l=e, μ, τ$ within standard model framework are revisited in this paper. We derive two representations for the form factors in this calculation. As a result, the computations are not only checked numerically by verifying the ultraviolet finiteness of the results but also confirming the ward identity of the amplitude. We find that the results are good stability with varying ultraviolet cutoff parameters as well as satisfy the ward identity. In phenomenological results, all the physical results are examined with the present inpu…
If dark photons are massless, they couple to standard-model particles only via higher dimensional operators, while the kinetic mixing with photons, which motivates most of the current experimental searches, is absent. We consider the effect of possible flavor-changing magnetic-dipole couplings of massless dark photons in kaon physics. In particular, we study the branching ratio for the process $K^+\rightarrow π^+π^0 \bar γ$ with a simplified-model approach, assuming the chiral quark model to evaluate the hadronic matrix element. Possible effects in the $K^0$-$\bar K^0$ mixing are taken into ac…
Generalized parton distributions of the nucleon are accessed via exclusive leptoproduction of the real photon. While earlier analytical considerations of phenomenological observables were restricted to twist-three accuracy, i.e., taking into account only terms suppressed by a single power of the hard scale, in the present study we revisit this differential cross section within the helicity formalism and restore power-suppressed effects stemming from the process kinematics exactly. We restrict ourselves to the phenomenologically important case of lepton scattering off a longitudinally polarized…
The questions on the presense and quantitative role of the constant terms in the real part of the high-energy photon-nucleon and photon-nucleus amplitudes representing the contribution of the non-Regge (the fixed j=0-pole) singularities in the finite-energy sum rules (FESR) for the photoabsorption cross sections on nucleons and the lightest atomic nuclei are discussed and new testable relations are presented for relevant combinations of the Compton scattering amplitudes.
We explore kaon decays with missing energy carried away by a massless dark photon, $\barγ$, assumed to have flavor-changing dipole-type couplings to the $d$ and $s$ quarks. We consider in particular the neutral-kaon modes $K_L\toγ\barγ$ and $K_L\toπ^0γ\barγ$ and their $K_S$ counterparts, as well as the charged-kaon channel $K^+\toπ^+γ\barγ$, each of which also has an ordinary photon, $γ$, in the final state. In addition, we look at $K_{L,S}\toπ^+π^-\barγ$ and $K^+\toπ^+π^0\barγ$. Interestingly, the same $ds\barγ$ interactions give rise to the flavor-changing two-body decays of hyperons with mi…
A model with $L_μ -L_τ$ gauge symmetry is the least constrained model as a resolution to the disagreement of the muon anomalous magnetic moment between the theoretical predictions and the experimental results. In this paper, we discuss how well the $L_μ - L_τ$ model can be constrained by looking for decays of the charged kaon associated with a $L_μ-L_τ$ gauge boson. More concretely, we consider searches for single muon tracks from the decays of stopped charged kaon as in the E949 experiment. In our conservative estimation, we find that the favored parameter region for the muon anomalous magnet…
A measurement of the cross section for the combined two-photon production of charged pion and kaon pairs is performed using 1.2~$\rm fb^{-1}$ of data collected by the CLEO~II detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring. The cross section is measured at invariant masses of the two-photon system between 1.5 and 5.0 GeV/$c^2$, and at scattering angles more than $53^\circ$ away from the $γγ$ collision axis in the $γγ$ center-of-mass frame. The large background of leptonic events is suppressed by utilizing the CsI calorimeter in conjunction with the muon chamber system. The reported cross section…
The charged $K_{\ell 4}$ decay, $K^+\toπ^+π^-\ell^+ν_{\ell}$ is studied in the framework of chiral perturbation theory based on the effective Lagrangian including mesons, photons, and leptons. We give analytic expressions for the two vectorial form factors, $f$ and $g$, calculated at one-loop level in the presence of Isospin breaking effects. These expressions may then be used to disentangle the Isospin breaking part from the measured form factors and hence improve the accuracy in the determination of $ππ$ scattering parameters from $K_{\ell 4}$ experiments.
The decays of a light scalar meson into a vector meson and a photon ($S\to Vγ)$ are evaluated in the tetraquark and quarkonium assignments of the scalar states. A link with the radiative decays $ϕ\to Sγ$ is established: experimental results for $S\to Vγ$ will allow to understand if the direct, quark-loop contribution to $ϕ\to Sγ$ or the kaon-loop contribution is dominant. Also strong decays $S\to PP$ -where $P$ denotes a pseudoscalar meson- are investigated: the tetraquark assignment works better than the quarkonium one. It is then also discussed why the tetraquark assignment is favoured with …
The long-distance electromagnetic radiative corrections to tau- -> pi- pi0 nu are re-evaluated. A meson dominance model is used to describe the emission of real photons in this decay. Results obtained for the hadronic spectrum and the decay rate in photon inclusive reactions are compared with previous calculations based on the chiral resonance theory. Independent tests in tau -> pi pi nu gamma that can help to validate the predictions of one of the two models are briefly discussed.
We re-examine spontaneous CP violation at the tree level in the context of the next-to-minimal supersymmetric standard model (NMSSM) with two Higgs doublets and a gauge singlet field. We analyse the most general Higgs potential without a discrete Z_3 symmetry, and derive an upper bound on the mass of the lightest neutral Higgs boson consistent with present experimental data. We investigate, in particular, its dependence on the admixture and CP-violating phase of the gauge singlet field, as well as on tan(beta). To assess the viability of the spontaneous CP violation scenario, we estimate epsil…
We examine how the signature of the strange dibaryon resonances shows up in scattering amplitudes and observables of the three-body $\bar{K}NN$-$πY N (Y=Σ, Λ)$ system on the physical real energy axis. The so-called point method is applied to handle logarithmic singularities that appear in solving the Alt-Grassberger-Sandhas equations for the real scattering energies. By taking two different kinds of models for the two-body $\bar{K}N$-$πΣ$ subsystem, both of which reproduce the available data equally well but give quite a different resonance-pole structure for $Λ(1405)$, we also investigate whe…
Entanglement of three photons from the decay of ortho-positronium is re-analyzed. We use the full three body phase space to write down the entangled states classified according to the spin directions of the ortho-positronium. Even in the case when the spin is perpendicular to the decay plane, we find non-negligible phases entering the entangled state. This has not been noticed before. We advocate a fixed quantization axis of the spin for the sake of generality. A brief discussion of a three dimensional formalism for photons, including correlations, versus a two dimensional one is given.
An investigation is performed of all non-leptonic kaon decays sensitive to the chiral anomaly. Within the framework of chiral perturbation theory, there are two classes of anomalous amplitudes at $O(p^4)$: reducible and direct contributions. Only radiative transitions are affected by the anomaly. The phenomenology of the decays $K_L \to π^+ π^- γ$ and $K^+ \to π^+ π^0 γ$ is studied in detail. Including the dominant contributions of $O(p^6)$, the experimentally observed dependence of the direct emission amplitude for $K_L \to π^+ π^- γ$ on the photon energy can be understood. A survey is made o…
I point out that the results stated in the recent articles on photon splitting by Wunner, Sang, and Berg and by Wentzel, Berg, \& Wunner directly contradict an earlier analytic and numerical calculation that I performed of the same process using Schwinger's proper time method, for strong magnetic fields and general energies below the pair production threshold. The results of Wunner et al. and Wentzel et al. do not show the expected low frequency behavior, nor have they been able to reproduce the expected small magnetic field behavior, suggesting that their calculations may not be gauge invaria…
The $K^{-}$ induced production of $Λ(1405)$ in the $K^{-} d \to πΣn$ reaction is investigated having in mind the conditions of the DAFNE facility at Frascati. We find that the fastest kaons from the decay of the $ϕ$ at DAFNE are well suited to see this resonance if one selects forward going neutrons in the center of mass, which reduce the contribution of single scattering and stress the contribution of the double scattering where the signal of the resonance appears clearer. We take advantage to report briefly on a recent work in which in addition to the $\bar{K}NN$ system with total spin S=0, …
We survey the possibilities of detecting the $s \rightarrow d γ$ transition in kaon and hyperon radiative decays. In the more frequent decays, like $K^+ \rightarrow π^+ π^o γ$, $K^+ \rightarrow π^+ \ell^+ \ell^-$, the short-distance contribution is obscured by various long-distance transitions. Among the hyperon radiative decays, $Ξ^- \rightarrow Σ^- γ$ and $Ω^- \rightarrow Ξ^- γ$ are the leading candidates for providing a window to the short-distance $s \rightarrow d γ$. The long-distance $s \rightarrow d γ$ transitions are also analyzed; their magnitude depends on the size of the deviation f…

We present a calculation of the width for $χ_{cJ}\rightarrow e^{+}e^{-}$ decay. The amplitude of the process is computed within the NRQCD framework. The leading-order contribution is described by two terms associated with the two different integration domains in the electromagnetic loop describing two-photon annihilation of the heavy quark-antiquark pair. The corresponding operators are defined in the framework of NRQCD. The matrix element of one of these operators describes a configuration with an ultrasoft photon and can be associated with the higher Fock state of the heavy meson. In order t…
We calculate in closed analytical form the one-photon loop radiative corrections to muon Compton scattering $μ^- γ\to μ^- γ$. Ultraviolet and infrared divergencies are both treated in dimensional regularization. Infrared finiteness of the (virtual) radiative corrections is achieved (in the standard way) by including soft photon radiation below an energy cut-off $λ$. We find that the anomalous magnetic moment $α/2π$ provides only a very small portion of the full radiative corrections. Furthermore, we extend our calculation of radiative corrections to the muon-nucleus bremsstrahlung process (or …
We report on the handbag contribution to two-photon annihilation into pion and kaon pairs at large energy and momentum transfer. The underlying physics of the mechanism is outlined and characteristic features and predictions are presented.
