The decays of psi(2S) into gamma p bar{p}, pi^0 p bar{p} and eta p bar{p} have been studied with the CLEO-c detector using a sample of 24.5 million psi(2S) events obtained from e^+e^- annihilations at sqrt{s} = 3686 MeV. The data show evidence for the excitation of several N^* resonances in p pi^0 and p eta channels in pi^0 p bar{p} and eta p bar{p} decays, and f_2 states in gamma p bar{p} decay. Branching fractions for decays of psi(2S) to gamma p bar{p}, pi^0 p bar{p} and eta p bar{p} have been determined. No evidence for p bar{p} threshold enhancements was found in the reactions psi(2S)-> X p bar{p}, where X = gamma, pi^0, eta. We do, however, find confirming evidence for a p bar{p} threshold enhancement in J/psi-> gamma p bar{p} as previously reported by BES.
We report study of B+- to J/psi eta K+- decays at Belle. In this analysis we search for X(3872) as well as other narrow resonances in the J/psi eta final state.
We report the results of searches for B+ -> J/psi eta' K+ and B0 -> J/psi eta' Ks0 decays, using a sample of 388 x 10^6 BBbar pairs collected with the Belle detector at the Upsilon(4S) resonance. No statistically significant signal is found for either of the two decay modes and upper limits for the branching fractions are determined to be B(B+ -> J/psi eta' K+) < 8.8 x 10^-5 and B(B0 -> J/psi eta' Ks0) < 2.5 x 10^-5 at 90% confidence level.
Based on 5.8x10^7 J/psi events detected in BESII, the branching fractions of J/psi--> phi eta and phi eta^prime are measured for different eta and eta^prime decay modes. The results are significantly higher than previous measurements. An upper limit on B(J/psi--> phi pi^0) is also obtained.
Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector, the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and (7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.
Using 24.5 million psi(2S) decays collected with the CLEO-c detector at CESR we present the most precise measurements of magnetic dipole transitions in the charmonium system. We measure B(psi(2S)->gamma eta_c) = (4.32+/-0.16+/-0.60)x10^-3, B(J/psi->gamma eta_c)/B(psi(2S)->gamma eta_c) = 4.59+/-0.23+/-0.64, and B(J/psi->gamma eta_c) = (1.98+/-0.09+/-0.30)%. We observe a distortion in the eta_c line shape due to the photon-energy dependence of the magnetic dipole transition rate. We find that measurements of the eta_c mass are sensitive to the line shape, suggesting an explanation for the discre…
We measure the mass of the eta meson using psi(2S) --> eta J/psi events acquired with the CLEO-c detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider. Using the four decay modes eta --> gamma gamma, 3pi0, pi+pi-pi0, and pi+pi-gamma, we find M(eta)=547.785 +- 0.017 +- 0.057 MeV, in which the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. This result has an uncertainty comparable to the two most precise previous measurements and is consistent with that of NA48, but is inconsistent at the level of 6.5sigma with the much smaller mass obtained by GEM.
We measure the mass of the eta' meson using psi(2S)--> pi+ pi- J/psi, J/psi--> gamma eta' events acquired with the CLEO-c detector operating at the CESR e+e- collider. Using three decay modes, eta'--> rho0 gamma, eta'--> pi+ pi- eta with eta--> gamma gamma, and eta'--> pi+ pi- eta with eta--> pi+ pi- pi0, we find M(eta') = 957.793 +- 0.054 +- 0.036 MeV, in which the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is consistent with but substantially more precise than the current world average.
The decays psi'->gamma pi^0, gamma eta and gamma eta' are studied using data collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII e^+e^- collider. Processes psi'->gamma pi^0 and psi'->gamma eta are observed for the first time with signal significances of 4.6 sigma and 4.3 sigma, respectively. The branching fractions are determined to be: B(psi'->gamma pi^0)=(1.58+-0.40+-0.13)x10^{-6}, B(psi'->gamma eta)=(1.38+-0.48+-0.09)x10^{-6}, and B(psi'->gamma eta')=(126+-3+-8) x 10^{-6}, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones systematic.
Recent data on branching ratios for ψ(2S) decays to J/ψπ^+π^-, J/ψπ^0π^0 and J/ψηare reviewed. An alternative treatment of data is proposed to get rid of the logical inconsistency which occurs in original computational procedure.
We report a search for the decay psi(2S) -> gamma eta_c(2S) in a sample of 25.9 million psi(2S) events collected with the CLEO-c detector. No signals are observed in any of the 11 exclusive eta_c(2S) decay modes studied, or in their sum. Product branching fraction upper limits are determined as a function of Gamma[eta_c(2S)] for the 11 individual modes.
We report on a study of the isospin-violating and conserving decays of the J/psi and psi(2S) charmonium state to Lambda Lambdabar pi0 and Lambda Lambdabar eta, respectively. The data are based on 225 million J/psi and 106 million psi(2S) events that were collected with the BESIII detector. The most accurate measurement of the branching fraction of the isospin-violating process J/psi ->Lambda Lambdabar pi0 is obtained, and the isospin-conserving processes J/psi ->Lambda Lambdabar eta and psi(2S) ->Lambda Lambdabar eta are observed for the first time. The branching fractions are measured to be B…
Using data acquired with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR e+e- collider, we measure branching fractions for J/psi, psi(2S), and psi(3770) decays to gamma pi0, gamma eta, and gamma eta'. Defining R_n = B[ psi(nS)-->gamma eta ]/B[ psi(nS)-->gamma eta' ], we obtain R_1 = (21.1 +- 0.9)% and, unexpectedly, an order of magnitude smaller limit, R_2 < 1.8% at 90% C.L. We also use J/psi-->gamma eta' events to determine branching fractions of improved precision for the five most copious eta' decay modes.
Based on the branching fractions of J/psi(psi(2S))-> VP from different collaborations, the pseudoscalar mixing is extensively discussed with a well established phenomenological model. The mixing angle is determined to be -14 degree by fitting to the new world average if only quark content is considered. After taking into account the gluonic content in eta and eta prime simultaneously, the investigation shows that eta favors only consisting of light quarks, while the gluonic content of eta prime is Z_{eta prime}^2=0.30\pm0.24.
The processes psi'-->p pbar pi^0 and psi'-->p pbar eta are studied using a sample of 14 million psi' decays collected with the Beijing Spectrometer at the Beijing Electron-Positron Collider. The branching fraction of psi'-->p pbar pi^0 is measured with improved precision as (13.2\pm 1.0\pm 1.5)\times 10^{-5}, and psi'-->p pbar eta is observed for the first time with a branching fraction of (5.8\pm 1.1\pm 0.7)\times 10^{-5}, where the first errors are statistical and the second ones are systematic.
With a sample of (225.2\pm2.8)*10^{6} J/psi events registered in the BESIII detector, J/psi->gamma pi^+ pi^- eta' is studied using two eta' decay modes: eta'->pi^+ pi^- eta and eta' -> gamma rho^0. The X(1835), which was previously observed by BESII, is confirmed with a statistical significance that is larger than 20σ. In addition, in the pi^+pi^-eta' invariant mass spectrum, the X(2120) and the X(2370), are observed with statistical significances larger than 7.2σand 6.4σ, respectively. For the X(1835), the angular distribution of the radiative photon is consistent with expectations for a pseu…
The CP asymmetry predicted by the Standard Model in the decay modes Bs;d -> J/psi eta and Bs -> J/psi phi is very small, and the observation of a sizeable e ect would be a clear indication of new physics beyond the Standard Model. Contrary to the final state J/psi phi, the former final state is a CP eigenstate, and therefore complex angular distribution analyses are not necessary for the asymmetry measurement. In this paper, the approaches for the study of these two decay channels are presented.
Using 5.63 pb^-1 of data accumulated at the psi(2S) resonance with the CLEO III and CLEO-c detectors corresponding to 3.08 million psi(2S) decays, a search is performed for the decay psi(2S) -> eta_c pi^+pi^-pi^0 to test a theoretical prediction based upon the assumption that the c \bar c pair in the psi(2S) does not annihilate directly into three gluons but rather survives before annihilating. No signal is observed, and a combined upper limit from six eta_c decay modes is determined to be B(psi(2S) -> eta_c pi^+pi^-pi^0) < 1.0 x 10^-3 at 90% C.L. This upper limit is about an order of magnitud…
We studied the decay psi(2S) to gamma eta_c(2S) with 25.9 million psi(2S) events collected with the CLEO-c detector. No psi(2S) to gamma eta_c(2S) decays were observed in any of the eleven exclusive eta_c(2S) decay modes studied. The product branching fraction upper limits were determined for all modes. The 90% confidence level upper limit of branching fraction of psi(2S) to gamma eta_c (2S) was obtained.
Radiative decays of the $\psip$ into $γK\bar{K}π$ and $γη\pipi$ final states are studied using 14 million $\psip$ events collected with the BESII detector. Branching fractions or upper limits on the branching fractions of $\psip$ and $\xcj$ decays are reported. No significant signal for $\etafl/\etafh$ is observed in the $K\bar{K}π$ or $η\pipi$ mass spectra, and upper limits on the branching fractions of $\psip\rarγ\etaf$, $\etaf\rar K\bar{K}π$ and $η\pipi$ are determined.
We study the baryonic charmonium decays of B mesons, B+ to etac K+ and B+ to J/psi K+, where the etac and J/psi subsequently decay into a p pbar or Lambda Lambdabar pair. We measure the J/psi to p pbar, Lambda Lambdabar anisotropy parameters, alpha_B = -0.60 +- 0.13 +-0.14 (p pbar), -0.44 +- 0.51 +- 0.31 (Lambda Lambdabar) and compare to results from e+e- to J/psi formation experiments. We also report the first observation of etac to Lambda Lambdabar. The measured branching fraction is B(etac to Lambda Lambdabar) = (0.87 +0.24 -0.21(stat) +0.09 -0.14(syst) +- 0.27 (PDG)) x 10^-3. This study is…
Data are presented on the reaction J/psi--> p pbar eta using 7.8 million J/psi triggers collected by the BEjing Spectrometer (BES). A partial wave analysis is performed. A clear enhancement near the p eta(pbar eta) threshold is observed. It is fitted with a JP=1/2- resonance with mass $M= 1530\pm 10$ MeV and width $Γ= 95\pm 25$ MeV. In addition, there is a peak around 1650 MeV with JP=1/2- preferred also, fitted with $M =1647\pm 20$ MeV and $Γ= 145^{+80}_{-45}$ MeV. These two N* resonances are believed to be the two well established states, S11(1535) and S11(1650), respectively. It is the firs…
We report the observation of the $B$ meson decay $B^\pm\to J/ψηK^\pm$ and evidence for the decay $B^0\to J/ψηK^0_S$, using {90} million $BBbar$ events collected at the $\ensuremath{Υ{(4S)}}\xspace$ resonance with the $BaBar$ detector at the PEP-II $e^+ e^-$ asymmetric-energy storage ring. We obtain branching fractions of $\cal{B}$$(B^\pm\to J/ψηK^{\pm}$)=$(10.8\pm 2.3(\rm{stat.})\pm 2.4(\rm{syst.}))\times 10^{-5}$ and $\cal{B}$$(B^0\to J/ψηK_{\rm{S}}^{0}$)=$(8.4\pm 2.6(\rm{stat.})\pm 2.7(\rm{syst.}))\times 10^{-5}$. We search for the new narrow mass state, the X(3872), recently reported by the…
We report a study of the B meson decays, B+ -> J/psi phi K+, B0 -> J/psi phi K0S, B0 -> J/psi phi, B0 -> J/psi eta and B0 -> J/psi eta' using 56 million BBbar events collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II e+ e- asymmetric-energy storage ring. We measure the branching fractions B(B+ -> J/psi phi K+) = (4.4 +- 1.4(stat) +- 0.5(syst)) * 10-5 and B(B0 -> J/psi phi K0S) = (5.1 +- 1.9(stat) +- 0.5(syst)) * 10^-5, and set upper limits at 90% confidence level for the branching fractions B(B0 -> J/psi phi) < 9.2 * 10^-6, B(B0 -> J/psi eta)< 2.7 * 10^-5, and B(B0 -> J/psi…
Data on J/Psi -> gamma (eta-piplus-piminus) and gamma (Kcharged-Kshort-picharged) from 58M J/Psi hadronic interactions in the BES II detector are analysed. They throw new light on J^P = 0^- mesons throughout the mass range up to 2 GeV, notably eta(1440). For the first time, this state is fitted including the full s-dependence of decays to a0(980)-pi, eta-sigma, Kstar-K, kappa-K and f0(980)-eta, including the dispersive term associated with this s-dependence. Two types of fit are reported. The first uses a single eta(1440). The second uses separate eta(1405) and eta(1475). The strong s-dependen…
We present an effective field theory based extraction of the eta_c mass and width from a recent measurement by CLEO of the photon line shape in J/Psi -> eta_c gamma decay.
We present improved measurements of CP-violation parameters in B0->phiK0, eta'K0, KsKsKs decays based on a sample of 535x10^6 BBbar pairs collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB energy-asymmetric e+e- collider. We obtain sin2phi_1^eff=+0.64+-0.10(stat)+-0.04(syst) for B0->eta'K0, +0.50+-0.21(stat)+-0.06(syst) for B0->phiK0, and +0.30+-0.32(stat) +-0.08(syst) for B0->KsKsKs decays. We have observed CP violation in the B0->eta'K0 decay with a significance of 5.6 standard deviations. We also perform an improved measurement of CP asymmetries in B0->J/psiK0 decays and o…
We present a new analysis of double charmonium production in e^+ e^- annihilation. The observation of the processes e^+ e^- -> J/psi eta_c, J/psi chi_c0, and J/psi eta_c(2S) is confirmed using a dataset more than three times larger than that of Belle's previous report, and no evidence for the process e^+ e^- -> J/psi J/psi is found. We perform an angular analysis for J/psi eta_c production and set an upper limit on the production of J/psi J/psi. Processes of the type e^+ e^- -> psi(2S) (cc)_res have been observed for the first time; their rates are found to be comparable to those of e^+ e^- ->…
We proceed for the first time to the evaluation of the Born cross section for J/psi+eta(c) production, namely via g+g -> J/psi+eta(c)+g, and show that it has a harder P_T spectrum than the J/psi-pair yield at Born level. If one stuck to a comparison at Born level, one would conclude that J/psi+eta(c) production would surpass that of J/psi+J/psi at large P_T. This is nonetheless not the case since J/psi-pair production, as for single J/psi, receives leading-P_T contributions at higher orders in alpha_s. We also present the first evaluation of these leading-P_T next-to-leading order contribution…
Using J/psi -> mu^+ mu^- decays from a sample of approximately 4 million psi(2S) events collected with the BESI detector, the branching fractions of psi(2S) -> eta J/psi, pi^0 pi^0 J/psi, and anything J/psi normalized to that of psi(2S) -> pi^+ pi^- J/psi are measured. The results are B(psi(2S) -> eta J/psi)/B(psi(2S) -> pi^+ pi^- J/psi) = 0.098 \pm 0.005 \pm 0.010, B(psi(2S) -> pi^0 pi^0 J/psi)/B(psi(2S) -> pi^+ pi^- J/psi) = 0.570 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.026, and B(psi(2S) -> anything J/psi)/B(psi(2S) -> pi^+ pi^- J/psi) = 1.867 \pm 0.026 \pm 0.055.
We present some recent results in hadronic decays and cross-section measurements at Psi(3770) from CLEO collaboration. They include measurement of absolute hadronic branching fractions of D mesons and e+e- to DDbar cross-sections, inclusive production of eta, eta', phi in D decays, branching fractions of D+ to K0_{S,L} pi+ and eta pi+, Psi(3770) non-DDbar decays, and timelike electromagnetic form factors of pion, kaon and proton. These results are based on 55.8 pb-1 and 281 pb-1 at Psi(3770), and other data samples collected by the CLEO-c detector at the Cornell Electron Storage Ring (CESR).
We report on the first measurement of J/Psi production as a function of charged particle pseudo-rapidity density dN_ch/d_eta in pp collisions at sqrt{s} = 7 TeV with the ALICE experiment at the LHC. J/Psi mesons are detected down to p_T = 0 via their decays into e+e- pairs at mid-rapidity (|y| < 0.9) and into mu+mu- pairs at forward rapidity (2.5<y<4). dN_ch/d_eta is measured within |eta| < 1. We compare results in the two different J/Psi rapidity ranges. Preliminary PYTHIA simulations are also presented.
We report evidence for the $B$ meson decays, $B^\pm\to J/ψηK^\pm$ and $B^0\to J/ψηK^0_S$, using {90} million $B\bar B$ events collected at the $\ensuremath{Υ{(4S)}}$ resonance with the \babar detector at the PEP-II $e^+ e^-$ asymmetric-energy storage ring. We obtain preliminary branching fractions in the charged and neutral channels of $(10.8\pm 2.3(stat.)\pm 2.4(syst.))\times 10^{-5}$ and $(8.4\pm 2.6(stat.)\pm 2.7(syst.))\times 10^{-5}$, respectively.
We report the first observation of $\mPJpsi \to \mPeta\mPKst\mAPKst$ decay in a $\mPJpsi$ sample of 58 million events collected with the BESII detector. The branching fraction is determined to be $(1.15 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.22)\times 10^{-3}$. The selected signal event sample is further used to search for the $\mPY$ resonance through $\mPJpsi \to \mPeta \mPY, \mPY\to\mPKst\mAPKst$. No evidence of a signal is seen. An upper limit of \mathrm{Br}(\mPJpsi \to \mPeta \mPY)\cdot\mathrm{Br}(\mPY\to\mPKst\mAPKst) < 2.52\times 10^{-4} is set at the 90% confidence level.
Measurements of branching fractions for nine different final states, based on a data sample of approximately 4 million psi(2S) events collected with the BESI detector at the BEPC, are reported. Using the same event sample, radiative decays of the psi (2S) into pi pi, K K-bar and eta eta final states have been measured. Cross sections for e e -> e e, hadrons, pi pi J/psi, and mu mu have been measured in the vicinity of the psi(2S) resonance using the BESII detector. The psi(2S) total width; partial widths to hadrons, pi pi J/psi and muons; and corresponding branching fractions have been determi…
We review recent experimental results on Bd and Bs mesons decays by the BaBar and Belle experiments. These include measurements of the color-suppressed decays B0bar to D(*)0h0, h0=pi0, eta, etaprime, omega, observation of the baryonic decay B0bar to Lambdac+ Lambdabar K-, measurements of the charmless decays B to eta h, h=K, pi, B to Kpi and observation of CP eigenstates in the Bs decays: B0s to J/psi f0(980), B0s to J/psi f0(1370) and B0s to J/psi eta. The theoretical implications of these results will be considered.
The eta(1835) is confirmed clearly in new BESIII data for J/Psi -> gamma (eta'-pi-pi); the angular distribution of the photon is consistent with a pseudoscalar. This makes it a candidate for an s-sbar radial excitation of eta' and eta(1440) (or one or both of eta(1405) and eta(1475)). However, a conspicuous feature of the BES III data is the absence of evidence for eta(1440) -> eta'-pi-pi while it is well known that eta(1440) appears in eta-pi-pi. Can these facts be reconciled? There is in fact a simple explanation. The channel eta(1440) -> eta-pi-pi may be explained by the two-step process et…
Using psi(2S) --> pi+ pi- J/psi, J/psi --> gamma eta' events acquired with the CLEO-c detector at the CESR e+e- collider, we make the first observations of the decays eta' --> pi+ pi- pi0 and eta' --> pi+ pi- e+ e-, measuring absolute branching fractions (37 +11 -9 +- 4) x 10^-4 and (25 +12 -9 +- 5) x 10^-4, respectively. For eta' --> pi+ pi- pi0, this result probes the mechanism of isospin violation and the roles of pi0/eta/eta'-mixing and final state rescattering in strong decays. We also set upper limits on branching fractions for eta' decays to pi+ pi- mu+ mu-, 2(pi+ pi-), pi+ pi- 2pi0, 2(…
We present a study of the inclusive photon spectra from 5.9 million J/psi decays collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e- collider. We measure the branching fraction of radiative decay J/psi to eta_c gamma, eta_c width and mass. Our preliminary results are: M(eta_c) = 2979.4+-1.5+-1.9 MeV, G(eta_c) = 27.8+-5.1+-3.3 MeV, B(J/psi to eta_c gamma) = (2.34+-0.15+-0.40)%.
Light quark masses are important fundamental parameters of the Standard Model. The decays psi'-->J/psi pi^0 (eta) were widely used in determining the light quark mass ratio m_u/m_d. However, there is a large discrepancy between the resulting value of m_u/m_d and the one determined from the light pseudoscalar meson masses. Using the technique of non-relativistic effective field theory, we show that intermediate charmed meson loops lead to a sizeable contribution to the decays and hence make the psi'-->J/psi pi^0 (eta) decays not suitable for a precise extraction of the light quark mass ratio.
We show that in the transitions psi' -> h_c π^0 and eta_c' -> chi_{c0} pi^0 the contributions from charmed meson loops are highly suppressed, in contrast to various other charmonium decays. We calculate the width of the psi' -> h_c pi^0, which agrees with the recent BES-III data, and predict the width of the eta_c' -> chi_{c0} pi^0, Γ(eta_c' -> chi_{c0} pi^0) = 1.5\pm0.4 keV. A confirmation of this prediction would also provide additional support for a recent analysis of psi' -> J/psi pi^0 (eta), where loops are claimed to play a prominent role.
We report preliminary measurements of the branching fractions for B+ -> J/psi phi K+, B0 -> J/psi phi K0S, B0 -> J/psi phi, B0 -> J/psi eta and B -> J/psi eta' using 56 million BBbar events collected at the Y(4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at PEP-II. We measure branching fractions of B(B+ -> J/psi phi K+)=(4.4+-1.4(stat)+-0.7(syst))*10^-5 and B(B0 -> J/psi phi K0S)=(5.1+-1.9(stat)+-0.9(syst))*10^-5, and set upper limits at 90% C.L. for branching fractions, B(B -> J/ψphi)< 0.95*10^-5, B(B -> J/ψeta)< 2.7*10^-5, and B(B -> J/ψeta')< 6.4*10^-5.
We present a study of the inclusive photon spectrum from 6.3 million J/psi decays collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e- collider. We measure the branching fraction of the radiative decay J/psi -> eta_c gamma, eta_c width and mass. Taking into account an asymmetric photon line shape we obtain: M(eta_c) = (2978.1 +- 1.4 +- 2.0) MeV/c^2, Gamma(eta_c) = (43.5 +- 5.4 +- 15.8) MeV, B(J/psi->eta_c gamma) = (2.59 +- 0.16 +- 0.31)%$.
The $η$-$η^\prime$ mixing angle is deduced from an updated phenomenological analysis of $J/ψ$ decays into a vector and a pseudoscalar meson. Corrections due to non-ideal $ω$-$ϕ$ mixing are confirmed to be crucial to find $θ_P=(-16.9\pm 1.7)^\circ$, in agreement with most recent analyses. The newly reported values of $B(J/ψ\toρπ)$ by the BABAR and BES Collaborations make more difficult a reasonable description of data.
Recent results obtained from the BES psi(2S) data are summarized, including the measurement of the branching ratio of the J/psi to leptons, B(J/psi -> l^+ l^-) = 5.87 +/- 0.04 +/- 0.09, many psi(2S) and chi_c branching ratios, information on the rho-pi puzzle, and measurements of the mass of the chi_c0, m(chi_c0) = 3414.1 +/- 0.6 +/- 0.8 MeV, and the eta_c, m(eta_c) = 2975.8 +/- 3.9 +/- 1.2 MeV.
We compute the decay constants of the lowest ccbar-states with quantum numbers J(PC)=0(-+) [eta_c], 1(--) [J/psi], and 1(+-) [hc] by using lattice QCD and QCD sum rules. We consider the coupling of J/psi to both the vector and tensor currents. Lattice QCD results are obtained from the unquenched (Nf=2) simulations using twisted mass QCD at four lattice spacings, allowing us to take the continuum limit. On the QCD sum rule side we use the moment sum rules. The results are then used to discuss the rate of eta_c --> gamma gamma decay, and to comment on the factorization in B --> X K decays, with …
The decay psi(2S) --> eta J/psi is used to measure, for the first time, all prominent eta-meson branching fractions with the same experiment in the same dataset, thereby providing a consistent treatment of systematics across branching fractions. We present results for eta decays to gamma gamma, pi+pi-pi0, 3 pi0, pi+ pi- gamma, and e+ e- gamma, accounting for 99.9% of all eta decays. The precisions for several of the branching fractions and their ratios are improved. Two channels, pi+ pi- gamma and e+ e- gamma, show results that differ at the level of three standard deviations from those previo…
It is shown that difficulties in reconciling the values of the cross section e+e- -> J/psi+eta_c measured at BELLE and calculated within non-relativistic QCD (NRQCD) are caused not by some misinterpretation of the data or other exotic explanations, but by poor applicability of NRQCD to such processes. We use general theory of hard exclusive processes in QCD together with more realistic models of charmonium wave functions, and show that the BELLE result can be naturally explained.
We review selected recent Belle results in quarkonium physics, that include precision measurement of the eta_b(1S) parameters, evidence for the eta_b(2S); evidence for the psi_2(1D); observation of the psi(4040) and psi(4160) transitions to J/psi eta with anomalously high rates; observation of the Upsilon(5S) transitions to Upsilon(1D)pi+pi- and Upsilon(1S,2S)eta. The low excitations of charmonium and bottomonium are in agreement with the Lattice QCD and effective theories calculations, while high excitations show unexpected properties.
The composition of the eta and eta' mesons has long been a source of discussion and is of current interest with new experimental results appearing. We investigate what can be learnt from a number of different processes: V to P gamma and P to V gamma (V and P are light vector and pseudoscalar mesons respectively), P to gamma gamma, J/psi,psi' to P gamma, J/psi,psi' to P V, and chi_{c0,2} to PP. These constrain the eta-eta' mixing angle to a consistent value, phi approx 42 degrees; we find that the c cbar components are lesssim 5% in amplitude. We also find that, while the data hint at a small g…
We have studied the inclusive photon spectrum in psi(2S) decays using the CLEO III detector. We present the most precise measurements of electric dipole (E1) photon transition rates for psi(2S)--> gamma chicJ(1P) (J=0,1,2). We also confirm the hindered magnetic dipole (M1) transition, psi(2S)-->gamma etac(1S). However, the direct M1 transition psi(2S)-->gamma etac(2S) observed by the Crystal Ball as a narrow peak at a photon energy of 91 MeV is not found in our data.
The spin-singlet P-wave state of charmonium, hc(1P1), has been observed in the decay psi(2S) -> pi0 hc followed by hc -> gamma etac. Inclusive and exclusive analyses of the M(hc) spectrum have been performed. Two complementary inclusive analyses select either a range of energies for the photon emitted in hc -> gamma etac or a range of values of M(etac). These analyses, consistent with one another within statistics, yield M(h_c) =[3524.9 +/- 0.7 (stat) +/- 0.4 (sys)]MeV/c^2 and a product of the branching ratios B_psi(psi(2S) -> pi0 hc) x B_h(hc -> gamma etac) = [3.5 +/- 1.0 (stat) +/- 0.7 (sys)…
The $η$-$η^\prime$ pseudoscalar mixing angle and the gluonium content of the $η^\prime$ meson are deduced from an updated phenomenological analysis of $J/ψ$ decays into a vector and a pseudoscalar meson. The values for the mixing angle and the gluonic content of the $η^\prime$ wave function are $ϕ_P=(44.5\pm 4.3)^\circ$ and $Z^2_{η^\prime}=0.28\pm 0.21$, respectively.
Using a sample of 3 million psi(2S) decays recorded by the CLEO detector, we study three-body decays of the chi_c0, chi_c1, and chi_c2 produced in radiative decays of the psi(2S). We consider the final states pi+ pi- eta, K+ K- eta, p p-bar eta, pi+ pi- eta-prime, K+ K- pi0, p p-bar pi0, pi+ K- K0S, and K+ p-bar Lambda, measuring branching fractions or placing upper limits. For chi_c1 decays to pi+ pi- eta, K+ K- pi0, and pi+ K- K0S our observed samples are large enough to indicate the largest contributions to the substructure.
We report determination of branching fractions for the decays psi(2S) --> h + J/psi, where h=any, pi+pi-, pi0pi0, eta, pi0, and gamma gamma through chi_{c0,1,2}. These measurements use 27M psi(2S) decays produced in e+e- collision data collected with the CLEO detector. The resulting branching fractions and ratios thereof improve upon previously achieved precision in all cases, and in combination with other measurements permit determination of B(chi_cJ --> gamma J/psi) and B(psi(2S) --> light hadrons).
Using data accumulated with the CLEO detector corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 5.46 1/pb on the peak of the psi(2S) and 20.46 1/pb at E_CM=3.67 GeV, we report preliminary branching fraction measurements for seven new decay modes of the psi(2S) (eta 3pi, eta' 3pi, 2(K+ K-), p pbar K+ K-, Lambda Lambdabar pi+ pi-, Lambda pbar K+, and Lambda pbar K+ pi+ pi-) and more precise measurements of nine previously measured modes (2(pi+pi-), 2(pi+pi-) pi0, omega pi+pi-, K+ K- pi+ pi-, phi pi+ pi-, omega K+ K-, phi K+ K-, p pbar pi+ pi-, and Lambda Lambdabar). We also include a study of omega p…
The $η$-$η^\prime$ pseudoscalar mixing angle and the gluonium content of the $η^\prime$ meson are deduced from an updated phenomenological analysis of $J/ψ$ decays into a vector and a pseudoscalar meson. In absence of gluonium, the value of the mixing angle in the quark-flavour basis is found to be $ϕ_P=(40.7\pm 2.3)^\circ$. In presence of gluonium, the values for the mixing angle and the gluonic content of the $η^\prime$ wave function are $ϕ_P=(44.6\pm 4.4)^\circ$ and $Z^2_{η^\prime}=0.29^{+0.18}_{-0.26}$, respectively. The newly reported values of $B(J/ψ\toρπ)$ by the BABAR and BES Collabora…
Using a sample of 3x10^6 psi(2S) decays recorded by the CLEO detector, we study three body decays of the chi_{c0}, chi_{c1}, and chi_{c2} produced in radiative decays of the psi(2S). We consider the decay modes pi+ pi- eta, K+ K- eta, p pbar eta, pi+ pi- etaprime, K+ K- pi0, p pbar pi0, pi+ K- K0S, and K+ pbar Lambda measuring branching fractions or placing upper limits. For chi_{c1} to pi+ pi- eta, K+ K- pi0, and pi+ K- K0S our observed samples are large enough to study the substructure in a Dalitz plot analysis. The results presented in this document are preliminary.
The previous results of J/psi radiative decays from MARKIII, DM2, Crystal Ball and BESI are briefly reviewed in this talk. The main part of this talk focuses on presenting the recent results from BESII 58 million J/psi data, including the Partial Wave Analysis (PWA) results, the measurement of eta_c mass, as well as search for some interesting states.
We report a new analysis of double charmonium production in e+ e- annihilation using a data sample collected by the Belle experiment. We confirm our previous observation of the processes e+ e- -> J/psi eta_c (chi_c0, eta_c(2S)) and perform an angular analysis for these processes. Processes of the type e+ e- -> psi(2S) (c cbar)_resonant are observed for the first time. We also observe a new charmonium state - X(3940), produced in the process e+ e- -> J/psi X(3940).
