We explore in detail the Higgs phenomenology that results in a model where right-handed neutrinos have a mass scale of the order of the electroweak scale. In this model all scales arise from spontaneous symmetry breaking, and this is achieved with a Higgs sector that includes an extra Higgs singlet in addition to the standard model Higgs doublet. The scalar spectrum includes two neutral CP-even states ($h$ and $H$ with $m_{h} < m_{H}$)and a neutral CP-odd state ($σ$) that can be identified as a pseudo-Majoron. The parameter of the Higgs potential are constrained using a perturbativity criteria. Higgs BR and cross-sections are discussed, with special emphasis on the detection at the LHC.
A model of electroweak-scale right-handed neutrino (\ewnur) model was constructed five years ago in which the right-handed neutrinos are members of mirror fermion weak doublets and where the Majorana masses of the right-handed neutrinos are found to be {\em naturally} of the order of the electroweak scale. These features facilitate their searches at the LHC through signals such as like-sign dilepton events. This model contains, in addition to the mirror quarks and leptons, extra scalars transforming as weak triplets. In this paper, we study the constraints imposed on these additional particles…
We present the Higgs mechanism in the context of the EW-scale $ν_R$ model in which electroweak symmetry is dynamically broken by condensates of mirror quark and right-handed neutrino through the exchange of one fundamental Higgs doublet and one fundamental Higgs triplet, respectively. The formation of these condensates is dynamically investigated by using the Schwinger-Dyson approach. The occurrence of these condensates will give rise to the rich Higgs spectrum. In addition, the VEVs of Higgs fields is also discussed in this dynamical phenomenon.
The lepton number violating interactions generated by the light Majorana neutrinos can erase the primordial baryon asymmetry of the universe during the electroweak phase transition. The Majorana masses of the left-handed neutrinos are constrained to avoid this problem. These constraints do not depend on the $(B-L)$ symmetry breaking mechanism.
The lepton flavor violating process μ \rightarrow eγ has been previously studied in a model of electroweak-scale right-handed neutrinos. We have calculated the decay amplitude in unitarity gauge [1] and Rξ gauge [2]. In this paper, we calculate the anomalous magnetic moment of μ in Rξ gauge.
The possibility of constructing a model in which right-handed neutrinos have electroweak-scale masses as well as being {\em non-sterile} was espoused in Ref. 1. In this talk, I will review the ideas and results of Ref. 1 and discuss its implications for colliders such as the Tevatron, LHC and ILC.
Electroweak scale active right-handed neutrinos such as those proposed in a recent model necessitate the enlargement of the SM Higgs sector to include Higgs triplets with doubly charged scalars. The search for and constraints on such Higgs sector has implications not only on the nature of the electroweak symmetry breaking but also on the possibility of testing the seesaw mechanism at colliders such as the LHC and the ILC.
Can, and under which conditions, the 125-\gev SM-like scalar with the signal strengths for its decays into $W^{+}W^{-}$, $ZZ$, $γγ$, $b \bar{b}$ and $τ\barτ$ being consistent with experiments be accommodated in models that go beyond the Standard Model? Is it truly what it appears to be, namely the SM Higgs boson, or could it be quite different? A minimal extension of the original electroweak-scale right-handed neutrino model, in which right-handed neutrinos naturally obtain electroweak-scale masses, shows a scalar spectrum which includes either the 125-\gev SM-like scalar or a scalar which is …
A version of the $\mbox{SU(3)}_L\otimes \mbox{U(1)}_N$ electroweak theory in which there are right-handed neutrino currents is reconsidered in detail. We argue that in order to have a result consistent with low-energy one, the right-handed neutrino component must be treated as correction instead of an equivalent spin state. The data from the $Z$-decay allow us to fix the limit for $ϕ$ as $-0.00285 \leq ϕ\leq 0.00018$. From the neutrino neutral current scattering, we estimate a bound for the new neutral gauge boson $Z^2$ mass in the range of 400 GeV. A bound for the new charged and neutral (non…
We present two different models with electroweak scale right-handed neutrinos. One of the models is created under the constraint that any addition to the Standard Model must not introduce new higher scales. The model contains right-handed neutrinos with electroweak scale masses and a lepton number violating singlet scalar field. The scalar phenomenology is also presented. The second model is a triplet Higgs model where again the right-handed neutrinos have electroweak scale masses. In this case the model has a rich scalar phenomenology and in particular we present the analysis involving the do…
If neutrino masses are realized through the see-saw mechanism, can the right-handed neutrinos be produced and detected at present and future colliders? The answer is negative in the most popular see-saw scenarios for the simple reason that they are too heavy in these models. However, a simple extension of the Standard Model (SM) particle content, including mirror fermions, two $SU(2)_L$ triplet and one singlet Higgs fields, leads to a scenario in which the see-saw mechanism is realized with the Majorana mass $M_R$ of the right-handed neutrino being of the order of the electroweak scale or smal…
The existence of certain TeV suppressed higher-dimension operators may open up new decay channels for the Higgs boson to decay into lighter right-handed neutrinos. These channels may dominate over all other channels if the Higgs boson is light. For a Higgs boson mass larger than $2 m_W$ the new decays are subdominant yet still of interest. The right-handed neutrinos have macroscopic decay lengths and decay mostly into final states containing leptons and quarks. A distinguishing collider signature of this scenario is a pair of displaced vertices violating lepton number. A general operator analy…
We show that, for all values of $Tan β$ and the light right-handed stop mass for which the electroweak phase transition is strong enough to avoid washout following electroweak baryogenesis, the electroweak vacuum is stable over the lifetime of the observed Universe. Cosmological stability of the electroweak vacuum is violated only if the light right-handed stop is lighter than 100-115GeV.
We propose an alternative mechanism for leptogenesis at the electroweak scale, through the decays of a left-handed sneutrino. This scenario may be realized in supersymmetric models with non-zero Majorana masses for the neutrino superfield that lead to mixing and mass splitting between the left-handed sneutrino and the corresponding antisneutrino. Soft supersymmetry breaking provides new sources of CP violation in sneutrino-antisneutrino mixing that can generate a lepton asymmetry in decays of the left-handed sneutrino. We show how the three Sakharov conditions for generating the observed baryo…
During a large period of time, the anomalous baryon number violating interactions are in equilibrium, when the $(B+L)$ asymmetry is washed out. If there is any lepton number violation during this period, that will also erase the $(B-L)$ asymmetry. As a result, survival of the baryon asymmetry of the universe pose strong constraints on lepton number violating interactions. We review here the constraints on the left-handed Majorana neutrino masses arising from this survival requirement of the baryon asymmetry of the universe. We then briefly review models of leptogenesis, where lepton number vio…
Right-handed neutrinos with large Majorana mass occur naturally in the left-right symmetric model. We explore the prospect of such heavy Right-handed Neutrino search Via $W_R$ decay in the Like Sign Dilepton channel at SSC/LHC. The standard model background can be effectively eliminated by suitable lepton $p_T$ and isolation cuts without affecting the signal cross section seriously. In this way it seems possible to explore the bulk of the parameter space $0 < M_{N_R} < M_{W_R}$, with $M_{W_R}$ going upto 3000 (2000) GeV at SSC (LHC) energy.
We introduce an in-depth study of an unprobed pMSSM region offering a natural solution to dark matter. Since the 1980s this region has been referred to as the "bulk", consisting of sub 200 GeV neutralinos and right-handed smuons. The bulk satisfies recent muon $g_μ-2$ measurements and sustains consistency with $all$ presently operating SUSY experiments and LHC constraints. Initial ingress into the bulk will arrive soon via the LUX-ZEPLIN 1000-day experiment. The ATLAS Collaboration at the LHC has confirmed that observation of these light right-handed smuon events can occur at the ongoing LHC R…
We consider a modification of the standard electroweak model with the third quark generation and the $τ$-lepton in vector representations of $SU(2)\otimes U(1)_Y$ electroweak symmetry. This is a new way to implement right-handed currents which are controlled by the usual Fermi constant, $G_F$, the weak mixing angle, $\sinθ_W$, and also by the right-handed mixing matrices which survive when the Lagrangian density is written in terms of the mass eigenstates. In this case there are also new CP violation phases.
The muon-to-electron conversion in nuclei like aluminum, titanium and gold is studied in the context of a class of mirror fermion model with non-sterile right-handed neutrinos having mass at the electroweak scale. At the limit of zero momentum transfer and large mirror lepton masses, we derive a simple formula to relate the conversion rate with the on-shell radiative decay rate of muon into electron. Current experimental limits (SINDRUM II) and projected sensitivities (Mu2e, COMET and PRISM) for the muon-to-electron conversion rates in various nuclei and latest limit from MEG for the radiative…
We study the possibility of baryogenesis in the case of supersymmetry breaking with large mixing between the right-handed scalar charm and right-handed scalar top or right-handed scalar up and right-handed scalar top squarks resulting in one light right-handed up-type squark mass eigenstate. We argue that in this case the electroweak phase transition will be first order, and that large phases already present in the quark mass matrices can generate a baryon asymmetry of the correct magnitude without introducing any new phases specifically for this purpose. We study in detail a particular ansatz…
The possibility of creating baryon asymmetry at the electroweak phase transition in the minimal supersymmetric standard model is considered for the case when right-handed squarks are much lighter than left-handed ones. It is shown that the usual requirement v(T_c)/T_c > 1 for baryogenesis can be satisfied in a range of the parameters of the model, consistent with present experimental bounds.
We investigate the pair production of right-handed neutrinos from the decay of a light $B-L$ scalar in the $U(1)_{B-L}$ model. The $B-L$ scalar mixes to the SM Higgs, and the physical scalar is required to be lighter than the observed Higgs. The produced right-handed neutrinos are predicted to be long-lived according to the type-I seesaw mechanism, and yield potentially distinct signatures such as displaced vertex and time-delayed leptons at the CMS/ATLAS/LHCb, as well as signatures at the far detectors including the CODEX-b, FACET, FASER, MoEDAL-MAPP and MATHUSLA. We analyze the sensitivity r…
We present a model of neutrino masses within the framework of the EW-$ν_R$ model in which the experimentally desired form of the PMNS matrix is obtained by applying an $A_4$ symmetry to the \emph{Higgs singlet sector} responsible for the neutrino Dirac mass matrix. This mechanism naturally avoids potential conflict with the LHC data which severely constrains the Higgs sector, in particular the Higgs doublets. Moreover, by making a simple $ans\ddot{a}tz$ we extract $\mathcal{M}_l {\mathcal{M}_l}^\dagger$ for the charged lepton sector. A similar $ans\ddot{a}tz$ is proposed for the quark sector. …
The nonlinear SU(2) electroweak model is used to explain the absence of the right-handed neutrino in weak interactions. Two covariant eigenvalue constraints which affect the transformation lead to two classes of right-handed leptons, and make possible invariant mass terms without the Higgs doublet. A covariant picture of neutrinos with mass is presented. A new invariant form for the boson potentials is described in which the boson mass terms arises via the adjoint field. This model also indicates a different region of matter involving coupled leptons that are "blind" to the massless electromag…
Motivated by the null results of the BSM searches in the post-Higgs era of the LHC, our current approach is to look for new physics shifting from theory driven search strategies to signature driven ones. One possible direction might come from investigating the long-lived particles (LLPs) present in various theoretical scenarios through the newly formed Lifetime frontier. In this talk, I discuss a non-sterile right-handed neutrino model consisting of EW-scale Majorana masses, having signals with large displaced vertices arising in both the fermion and scalar sectors. The characteristic features…
Encouraged by a hint in a search for right-handed $W$ bosons at the LHC, we investigate whether the unitarity of a right-handed quark mixing matrix and the equality of the left- and right-handed quark mixing matrices could be tested at the LHC. We propose a particular test, involving counting the numbers of $b$-tags in the final state, and simulate the test at the event level with Monte-Carlo tools for the forthcoming $\sqrt{s}=13$ TeV LHC run. We find that testing unitarity with 20/fb will be challenging; our test successfully rejects unitarity if the right-handed quark mixing matrix is non-u…
I review the status of theoretical calculations relevant for electroweak physics at the Tevatron and LHC and discuss future directions. I also give a brief overview of current electroweak data and discuss future expectations.
The invisible signals of right-handed sneutrino decays originating from a Z' are analysed at the Large Hadron Collider. The possibility of accessing these events helps disentangling the B-L extension of Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model from more popular scenarios of Supersymmetry. We assess the scope of the CERN machine in establishing the aforementioned signatures when accompanied by mono-jet, single-photon or Z-radiation probes through sophisticated signal-to-background simulations carried out in presence of parton shower, hadronisation as well as detector effects. We find substantial s…
I discuss simple extensions of the Standard Model scalar sector that can help solve the origin of matter problem and that can be probed in their cosmologically relevant parameter space at the LHC.
Motivated by the recent discovery of the Higgs boson at m_h = 126 GeV and also by the non-observation of superparticles at the LHC, high-scale SUSY, where the superparticles are as heavy as O(10) TeV, has been recently proposed. We study lepton-flavor violations (LFVs) in the high-scale SUSY with right-handed neutrinos. Even if the slepton masses are of O(10) TeV, the renormalization group (RG) effects on the slepton mass-squared matrix may induce large enough LFVs which are within the reach of future LFV experiments. We also discuss the implication of the right-handed neutrinos on the electro…
The models based on ${SU}(3)_C\otimes {SU}(3)_L \otimes {U}(1)_X$ gauge group (3-3-1) contain new Higgs bosons and one of them is the SM-like Higgs boson $h$. Production of this Higgs boson at $p p$ colliders in the framework of 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos is calculated. We found that the contribution of the real $Z^\prime$ to the process $pp\to hZ$ is nearly 60 fb if $M_{Z^\prime}$ is about 1 TeV. The decay width and the branching ratios of the $Z'$ extra neutral gauge boson are systematically discussed.
The $αm_t^2/m_W^2$ order supersymmetric electroweak corrections arising from loops of chargino, neutralino, and squark to top quark pair production by $gg$ fusion at LHC are calculated in the minimal supersymmetric model. We found that the corrections amount about a few percent.
We investigate the collider signatures of neutral and charged Long-Lived Particles (LLPs), predicted by the Supersymmetric $B-L$ extension of the Standard Model (BLSSM), at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The BLSSM is a natural extension of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) that can account for non-vanishing neutrino masses. We show that the lightest right-handed sneutrino can be the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (LSP), while the Next-to-the LSP (NLSP) is either the lightest left-handed sneutrino or the left-handed stau, which are natural candidates for the LLPs. We analyze …
We study the combined effects of both strong and electroweak dimension six effective operators on flavour changing top quark physics at the LHC. Analytic expressions for the cross sections and decay widths of several flavour changing processes will be presented, as well as an analysis of the feasibility of their observation at the LHC.
We study the collider phenomenology of the electroweak phase transition and electroweak baryogenesis in the framework of the effective field theory. Our study shows that the effective theory using the dimension-6 operators can enforce strong first order phase transition and provide sizable CP violation to realize a successful electroweak baryogenesis. Such dimension-6 operators can induce interesting Higgs phenomenology that can be verified at colliders such as the LHC and the planning CEPC. We then demonstrate that this effective theory can originate from vector-like quarks and the triplet Hi…
Low-scale gaugino mediation predicts that gauginos are significantly heavier than scalar superpartners. In order of increasing mass the lightest superpartners are the gravitino, right-handed sleptons and left-handed sleptons (no light neutralino!). This implies that squark decay chains pass through one or more sleptons and typical final states from squark and gluino production at the LHC include multiple leptons. In addition, left-handed staus have large branching fractions into right-handed staus and the Higgs. As an example, we compute the spectrum of low-scale deconstructed gaugino mediatio…
The aim of this paper is to showcase the novel multilepton ($nl + E\!\!\!\!/_T$, n = 3 - 5) signals, hitherto unexplored at the LHC, arising from the heavier electroweakinos, in several generic pMSSMs at the upcoming LHC experiments. We first briefly review our old constraints on the full electroweakino sector of these models, containing both lighter and heavier sparticles, using the ATLAS trilepton data from the LHC Run I. Next we derive new stronger constraints on this sector for the first time using the ATLAS Run II data. We identify some benchmark points and explore the prospect of observi…
The standard model can be interpreted as the leading order of a Low-Energy Effective Theory (LEET) invariant under a higher non linearly realized symmetry $S_{nat}\supset SU(2)_W \times U(1)_Y$ equipped with a systematic power counting. Within the minimal version of this ``not quite decoupling'' LEET, the dominant non-standard effect appears at next-to-leading order (NLO) and is a modification of the couplings of fermions to W and Z. In particular, the coupling of right-handed quarks to Z is modified and a direct coupling of right-handed quarks to W emerges. Charged right-handed lepton current…
We explore possible signatures for right-handed neutrinos in TeV scale B-L extension of the Standard Model (SM) at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). The studied four lepton signal has a tiny SM background. We find the signal experimentally accessible at LHC for the considered parameter regions.
We present the complete NLO electroweak contribution of $\mathcal{O}(α^2_s α)$ to the production of diagonal squark--anti-squark pairs in proton--proton collisions. Compared to the lowest-order $\mathcal{O}(α_sα+ α^2)$ electroweak terms, the NLO contributions are also significant. We discuss the LO and NLO electroweak effects in cross sections and distributions at the LHC for the production of squarks different from top squarks, in various supersymmetric benchmark scenarios.
We analyse diffractive electroweak vector boson production in hadronic collisions and show that the single diffractive W boson production asymmetry in rapidity is a particularly good observable at the LHC to test the concept of the flavour symmetric pomeron parton distributions. It may also provide an additional constraint for the parton distribution functions in the proton.
We maintain that the search for the electroweak monopole is a key issue in the advancement of our understanding of the standard model. Unlike the Dirac monopole in electrodynamics, which is optional, the electroweak monopole should exist within the framework of the standard model. The mass of the electroweak monopole is estimated to be 5 to 7 TeV, but could be as large as 15 TeV. Above threshold its production rate at the LHC is expected to be relatively large, (1/alpha(em)2) times bigger than that of W+W- pairs. The search for the electroweak monopole is one of the prime motivations of the ne…
In this talk we survey the SSC and LHC signals and backgrounds for the physics of electroweak symmetry breaking. We study the process $pp \rightarrow WWX$ and compute the rate for the ``gold-plated'' signals $W^\pm \rightarrow \ell^\pm ν$ and $Z \rightarrow \ell^+\ell^-$ $(\ell = e,μ)$ for a wide variety of models. We use a forward jet tag and central jet veto to suppress the standard-model backgrounds. In this way we estimate the SSC and LHC sensitivities to the physics of electroweak symmetry breaking.
The presence of right-handed neutrinos in the type I seesaw mechanism may lead to significant corrections to the RG evolution of the Higgs self-coupling. Compared to the Standard Model case, the Higgs mass window can become narrower, and the cutoff scale become lower. Naively, these effects decrease with decreasing right-handed neutrino mass. However, we point out that the unknown Dirac Yukawa matrix may impact the vacuum stability constraints even in the low scale seesaw case not far away from the electroweak scale, hence much below the canonical seesaw scale of 10^15 GeV. This includes situa…
We report on recently computed mixed QCD-electroweak corrections to on-shell $W$ and $Z$ boson production. We use these differential predictions to estimate their impact on the $W$ boson mass determination at the LHC.
Presented are the complete NLO electroweak contributions to the production of diagonal squark--anti-squark pairs at the LHC. We discuss their effects for the production of squarks of the first two generations, in different SUSY scenarios.
We present the tree-level and next-to-leading order (NLO) electroweak (EW) contributions to squark-squark production at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) within the framework of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM).
We present the complete NLO electroweak contribution to the production of diagonal squark--anti-squark pairs in proton--proton collisions. We discuss their effects for the production of squarks different from top squarks, in the SPS1a' scenario.
The long-lived stau scenario is an interesting possibility at the LHC. We study squark mass measurements in this scenario; in particular, we show that left- and right-handed squark masses are both measurable. In SUSY events, multiple jets are expected, which become a source of combinatorial backgrounds. In order to reduce such backgrounds a hemisphere analysis is applied, and we discuss mass measurements of squarks in decay modes of left-handed squark into quark + (neutral / charged) Wino and also right-handed squark into quark + Bino.
The aim of the thesis is to study models of the electroweak symmetry breaking caused by dynamically generated masses of quarks and leptons. (1) We perform the basic analysis whether the main underlying idea, that the masses of only known fermions can provide the electroweak symmetry breaking, is actually feasible. For that we elaborate a two-composite-Higgs-doublet model of the top-quark and neutrino condensation. The model suggests rather large number, $\mathcal{O}(100)$, of right-handed neutrinos. (2) We analyze the model of strong Yukawa dynamics where the dynamical fermion mass generation …
We calculated the electroweak contributions to the hadronic production of a squark in association with a gluino within the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). Presented are complete next-to-leading order electroweak (NLO EW) corrections at O(alpha_s^2 alpha), which include real photon and real quark radiation processes. Also considered are photon induced tree level O(alpha_s alpha) contributions.
Motivated by a hint in a CMS search for right-handed $W$-bosons in $eejj$ final states, we propose an experimental test of quark-mixing matrices in a general left-right symmetric model, based on counting the numbers of $b$-tags from right-handed $W$-boson hadronic decays. We find that, with our test, differences between left- and right-handed quark-mixing matrices could be detected at the LHC with $\sqrt{s}=14$ TeV. With an integrated luminosity of about $20/\textrm{fb}$, our test is sensitive to right-handed quark-mixing angles as small as about $30^\circ$ and with $3000/\textrm{fb}$, our tes…
We discuss the phenomenology of the most general effective Lagrangian, up to operators of dimension 5, build with standard model fields and interactions including right-handed neutrinos. In particular we find there is a dimension 5 electroweak moment operator of right-handed neutrinos, not discussed previously in the literature, which could have interesting phenomenological consequences.
This paper has been withdrawn by the authors, due a crucial error in the Montecarlo simulation. See hep-ph/0107112 for a correct version. If interested in the validity of the effective-W approximation see hep-ph/0109059.
In this paper we compute electroweak contributions to the production of squark pairs at hadron colliders. These include the exchange of electroweak gauge bosons in the s-channel as well as electroweak gaugino exchange in the t- and/or u-channel. In many cases these can interfere with the dominant QCD contributions. As a result, we find sizable contributions to the production of two SU(2) doublet squarks. At the LHC, they amount to 10 to 20% for typical mSUGRA (or CMSSM) scenarios, but in more general scenarios they can vary between -40 and +55%, depending on size and sign of the SU(2) gaugino …
We study the effects of the extended electroweak gauge sector on the signal strengths of the Higgs boson at the LHC. Extension of the Higgs sector associate with the extension of the electroweak gauge symmetry. In our setup, there are two neutral Higgs states ($h$, $H$) and three new gauge bosons ($W'^{\pm}$, $Z'$). We assume the lightest scalar, $h$, is what LHC found and its mass is 125 GeV. We find the enhancement of $μ(gg \to h \to γγ)$. On the other hand, other decay processes are same as or smaller than the SM expectation.
