Lie group symmetry analysis for systems of coupled, nonlinear ordinary differential equations is performed in order to obtain the entire solution space to Einstein's field equations for vacuum Bianchi spacetime geometries. The symmetries used are the automorphisms of the Lie algebra of the corresponding three-dimensional isometry group acting on the hyper-surfaces of simultaneity for each Bianchi Type, as well as the scaling and the time reparametrization symmetry. A detailed application of the method is presented for Bianchi Type IV. The result is the acquisition of the general solution of Type IV in terms of sixth Painleve transcendent PVI, along with the known pp-wave solution. For Bianchi Types I, II, V the known entire solution space is attained and very briefly listed, along with two new Type V solutions of Euclidean and neutral signature and a Type I pp-wave metric.
All rigorous and detailed dynamical results in Bianchi cosmology rest upon the existence of a hierarchical structure of conserved quantities and monotonic functions. In this paper we uncover the underlying general mechanism and derive this hierarchical structure from the scale-automorphism group for an illustrative example, vacuum and diagonal class A perfect fluid models. First, kinematically, the scale-automorphism group leads to a reduced dynamical system that consists of a hierarchy of scale-automorphism invariant sets. Second, we show that, dynamically, the scale-automorphism group result…
The canonical quantization of the most general minisuperspace actions --i.e. with all six scale factor as well as the lapse function and the shift vector present-- describing the vacuum type II, VI and VII geometries, is considered. The reduction to the corresponding physical degrees of freedom is achieved through the usage of the linear constraints as well as the quantum version of the entire set of classical integrals of motion.
The theory of symmetries of systems of coupled, ordinary differential equations (ODE's) is used to develop a concise algorithm for cartographing the space of solutions to vacuum Bianchi Einstein's Field Equations (EFE). The symmetries used are the well known automorphisms of the Lie algebra for the corresponding isometry group of each Bianchi Type, as well as the scaling and the time eparameterization symmetry. Application of the method to Type III results in: a) the recovery of all known solutions without prior assumption of any extra symmetry, b) the enclosure of the entire unknown part of t…
An invariant description of Bianchi Homogeneous (B.H.) 3-spaces is presented, by considering the action of the Automorphism Group on the configuration space of the real, symmetric, positive definite, $3\times 3$ matrices. Thus, the gauge degrees of freedom are removed and the remaining (gauge invariant) degrees, are the --up to 3-- curvature invariants. An apparent discrepancy between this Kinematics and the Quantum Hamiltonian Dynamics of the lower Class A Bianchi Types, occurs due to the existence of the Outer Automorphism Subgroup. This discrepancy is satisfactorily removed by exploiting th…
We solve the quantum constraints for homogeneous N=1 supergravity on 3-geometries with a Bianchi IX metric. Because these geometries admit Killing vectors with the same commutation relations as the angular momentum generators, there are two distinct definitions of homogeneity. The first of these is well-known and has been shown by D'Eath to give the wormhole state. We show that the alternative definition of homogeneity leads to the Hartle-Hawking ``no boundary" state.
The quantum cosmology of the string effective action is considered within the context of the Bianchi class A minisuperspace. An exact unified solution is found for all Bianchi types and interpreted physically as a quantum wormhole. The solution is generalized for types ${\rm VI_0}$ and ${\rm VII_0}$. The Bianchi type IX wavefunction becomes increasingly localized around the isotropic Universe at large three-geometries.
Quantum theory of a scalar field is developed on the LQC Bianchi I space-time. By comparing the the quantum field theory for a single mode on classical and quantum background geometries we find that an effective Bianchi I space-time emerges. We show that by disregarding the back-reaction no Lorentz-violation is present, despite the effective metric being different than the classical Bianchi I one.
The quantization of Class A Bianchi Type VI and VII geometries -with all six scale factors, as well as the lapse function and the shift vector present- is considered. A first reduction of the initial 6-dimensional configuration space is achieved by the usage of the information furnished by the quantum form of the linear constraints. Further reduction of the space in which the wave function -obeying the Wheeler-DeWitt equation- lives, is accomplished by revealing a classical integral of motion, tantamount to an extra symmetry of the corresponding classical Hamiltonian. This symmetry generator -…
In the present work we revisit the axisymmetric Bianchi VIII and IX models. At the classical level we reproduce the known analytic solution, in a novel way making use of two quadratic integrals of motion, the constraint equation, as well as a linear non-local integral of motion. These quantities correspond to two second rank Killing tensors and a homothetic vector field existing on the relevant configuration space. On the corresponding phase space the two quadratic charges commute with the Hamiltonian constraint but not among themselves. Thus, after turning these charges into operators we obta…
We investigate the set of spacetime general coordinate transformations (G.C.T.) which leave the line element of a generic Bianchi Type Geometry, quasi-form invariant; i.e. preserve manifest spatial Homogeneity. We find that these G.C.T.'s, induce special time-dependent automorphic changes, on the spatial scale factor matrix $γ_{αβ}(t)$ -along with corresponding changes on the lapse function $N(t)$ and the shift vector $N^α(t)$. These changes, which are Bianchi Type dependent, form a group and are, in general, different from those induced by the group SAut(G) -advocated in earlier investigation…
We investigate a special class of Poisson--Lie T-plurality transformations of Bianchi cosmologies invariant with respect to non-semisimple Bianchi groups. For six-dimensional semi-Abelian Manin triples $\mathfrak{b}\bowtie \mathfrak{a}$ containing Bianchi algebras $\mathfrak{b}$ we identify general forms of Poisson--Lie identities and dualities. We show that these can be decomposed into simple factors, namely automorphisms of Manin triples, B-shifts, $β$-shifts, and "full" or "factorized" dualities. Further, we study effects of these transformations and utilize the decompositions to obtain new…
We construct numerical solutions to the higher-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory. The solutions are based on embedding the four dimensional Bianchi type IX space in the theory. We find the solutions as superposition of two functions, which one of them can be found numerically. We show that the solutions in any dimensions, are almost regular everywhere, except a singular point. We find that the solutions interpolate between the two exact analytical solutions to the higher dimensional Einstein-Maxwell theory, which are based on Eguchi-Hanson type I and II geometries. Moreover, we construct the…
The theory of symmetries of systems of coupled, ordinary differential equations (ODE) is used to develop a concise algorithm in order to obtain the entire space of solutions to vacuum Bianchi Einstein Field Equations (EFEs). The symmetries used are the well known automorphisms of the Lie algebra for the corresponding isometry group of each Bianchi Type, as well as the scaling and the time re-parametrization symmetry. The application of the method to Type VII_h results in (a) obtaining the general solution of Type VII_0 with the aid of the third Painlevé transcendental (b) obtaining the general…
The quantization of the most general Bianchi Type II geometry -with all six scale factors, as well as the lapse function and the shift vector, present- is considered. In an earlier work, a first reduction of the initial 6-dimensional configuration space, to a 4-dimensional one, has been achieved by the usage of the information furnished by the quantum form of the linear constraints. Further reduction of the space in which the wave function -obeying the Wheeler-DeWitt equation- lives, is accomplished by unrevealling the extra symmetries of the Hamiltonian. These symmetries appear in the form of…
In this work, the quantization of the most general Bianchi Type I geometry, with and without a cosmological constant, is considered. In the spirit of identifying and subsequently removing as many gauge degrees of freedom as possible, a reduction of the initial 6--dimensional configuration space is presented. This reduction is achieved by imposing as additional conditions on the wave function, the quantum version of the --linear in momenta-- classical integrals of motion (conditional symmetries). The vector fields inferred from these integrals induce, through their integral curves, motions in t…
$Λ^μ_ν$-geometry is a geometry with a variable cosmological term described by a second-rank symmetric tensor $Λ^μ_ν$ whose asymptotics are Einstein cosmological term $Λδ^μ_ν$ at the origin and $λδ^μ_ν$ at infinity (with $λ< Λ$). It corresponds to extension of the algebraic structure of the Einstein cosmological term $Λδ^μ_ν$ in such a way that a scalar $Λ$ describing vacuum energy density as $ρ_{vac}=8πG Λ$ (with $ρ_{vac}$=const by virtue of the Bianchi identities), becomes explicite related to the appropriate component, $Λ^0_0$, of an appropriate stress-energy tensor, $T^μ_ν=8πGΛ^μ_ν$ whose v…
We consider the 4+1 Einstein's field equations (EFE's) in vacuum, simplified by the assumption that there is a four-dimensional sub-manifold on which an isometry group of dimension four acts simply transitive. In particular we consider the Abelian group Type 4A1; and thus the emerging homogeneous sub-space is flat. Through the use of coordinate transformations that preserve the sub-manifold's manifest homogeneity, a coordinate system is chosen in which the shift vector is zero. The resulting equations remain form invariant under the action of the constant Automorphisms group. This group is use…
We carry out the quantization of the full type I and II Bianchi models following the non-perturbative canonical quantization program. These homogeneous minisuperspaces are completely soluble, i.e., it is possible to obtain the general solution to their classical equations of motion in an explicit form. We determine the sectors of solutions that correspond to different spacetime geometries, and prove that the parameters employed to describe the different physical solutions define a good set of coordinates in the phase space of these models. Performing a transformation from the Ashtekar variable…
Solutions have been found for gravity coupled to electromagnetic field and a set of charged and uncharged perfect fluids for Bianchi Types VI_{(-1)}, VIII, IX, under the primary assumption of the existence of a conformal Killing vector field. The electromagnetic field ``absorbs'' the ``frozen'' anisotropy and the remaining equations are dynamically equivalent with the equations of ΛCDM. There are solutions with flat, negative and positive effective spatial curvature corresponding to the three FLRW classes. Three equations of state for the charged perfect fluid where studied: non-relativistic w…
For a canonical formulation of quantum gravity, the superspace of all possible 3-geometries on a Cauchy hypersurface of a 3+1-dimensional Lorentzian manifold plays a key role. While in the analogous 2+1-dimensional case the superspace of all Riemannian 2-geometries is well known, the structure of the superspace of all Riemannian 3-geometries has not yet been resolved at present. In this paper, an important subspace of the latter is disentangled: The superspace of local homogenous Riemannian 3-geometries. It is finite dimensional and can be factored by conformal scale dilations, with the flat s…
The solvable Bianchi I-VII groups which arise as homogeneity groups in cosmological models are analyzed in a uniform manner. The dual spaces (the equivalence classes of unitary irreducible representations) of these groups are computed explicitly. It is shown how parameterizations of the dual spaces can be chosen to obtain explicit Plancherel formulas. The Laplace operator $Δ$ arising from an arbitrary left invariant Riemannian metric on the group is considered, and its spectrum and eigenfunctions are given explicitly in terms of that metric. The spectral Fourier transform is given by means of …
Bianchi type I and type IX ('Mixmaster') geometries are investigated within the framework of Hořava-Witten cosmology. We consider the models for which the fifth coordinate is a $S^1/Z_2$ orbifold while the four coordinates are such that the 3-space is homogeneous and has geometry of Bianchi type I or IX while the rest six dimensions have already been compactified on a Calabi-Yau space. In particular, we study Kasner-type solutions of the Bianchi I field equations and discuss Kasner asymptotics of Bianchi IX field equations. We are able to recover the isotropic 3-space solutions found by Lukas …
We calculate the total energy of Taub's 1951 exact solution for a Bianchi type IX geometry using several different energy-localization procedures, including the prescriptions of Einstein, Papapetrou, Landau-Lifshitz and Moller. We compare these results to those for other anisotropic geometries, and comment on their relationship to Rosen's conjecture about the total energy of the universe.
The behavior near the initial singular state of the anisotropy parameter of the arbitrary type, homogeneous and anisotropic Bianchi models is considered in the framework of the brane world cosmological models. The matter content on the brane is assumed to be an isotropic perfect cosmological fluid, obeying a barotropic equation of state. To obtain the value of the anisotropy parameter at an arbitrary moment an evolution equation is derived, describing the dynamics of the anisotropy as a function of the volume scale factor of the Universe. The general solution of this equation can be obtained i…
We consider an anisotropic brane world with Bianchi type I and V geometries where the mechanism of confining the matter on the brane is through the use of a confining potential. The resulting equations on the anisotropic brane are modified by an extra term that may be interpreted as the x-matter, providing a possible phenomenological explanation for the accelerated expansion of the universe. We obtain the general solution of the field equations in an exact parametric form for both Bianchi type I and V space-times. In the special case of a Bianchi type I the solutions of the field equations are…
The necessary and sufficient conditions for a three-dimensional Riemannian metric to admit a transitive group of isometries are obtained. These conditions are Intrinsic, Deductive, Explicit and ALgorithmic, and they offer an IDEAL labeling of these geometries. It is shown that the transitive action of the group naturally falls into an unfolding of some of the ten types in the Bianchi-Behr classification. Explicit conditions, depending on the Ricci tensor, are obtained that characterize all these types.
The Noether symmetry analysis is applied for the analysis of the field equations in an anisotropic background in $f(T,B)$-theory. We consider the $f\left( T,B\right) =T+F\left( B\right) $ which describes a small deviation from TEGR introduced by the boundary scalar $B$. For the Bianchi\ I, Bianchi III and Kantowski-Sachs geometries there exists a minisuperspace description and Noether's theorems are applied. We investigate the existence of invariant point transformations. We find that for the Bianchi I spacetime the gravitational field equations are Liouville integrable for the $F\left( B\righ…
We investigate exact and analytic solutions for the field equations in teleparallel dark energy model where the physical space is described by the locally rotational symmetric Bianchi I, Bianchi III and Kantowski-Sachs geometries. We make use of the property that a point-like Lagrangian exist for the description of the field equations and variational symmetries are applied for the construction of invariant functions and conservation laws. The later are used for the derivation of new analytic solutions for the classical field equations and exact function forms for the wavefunction in the quantu…
We consider a Bianchi type III axisymmetric geometry in the presence of an electromagnetic field. A first result at the classical level is that the symmetry of the geometry need not be applied on the electromagnetic tensor $F_{μν}$; the algebraic restrictions, implied by the Einstein field equations to the stress energy tensor $T_{μν}$, suffice to reduce the general $F_{μν}$ to the appropriate form. The classical solution thus found contains a time dependent electric and a constant magnetic charge. The solution is also reachable from the corresponding mini-superspace action, which is strikingl…
Following the spirit of a previous work of ours, we investigate the group of those General Coordinate Transformations (GCTs) which preserve manifest spatial homogeneity. In contrast to the case of Bianchi Type Models we, here, permit an isometry group of motions $G_{4}=SO(3)\otimes T_{r}$, where $T_{r}$ is the translations group, along the radial direction, while SO(3) acts multiply transitively on each hypersurface of simultaneity $Σ_{t}$. The basis 1-forms, can not be invariant under the action of the entire isometry group and hence produce an Open Lie Algebra. In order for these GCTs to exi…
