Quadratic Tangles in Planar Algebras

A Diagrammatic Multivariate Alexander Invariant of Tangles

Recently, Bigelow defined a diagrammatic method for calculating the Alexander polynomial of a knot or link by resolving crossings in a planar algebra. I will present my multivariate version of Bigelow's calculation. The advantage to my algorithm is that it generalizes to a multivariate tangle invariant up to Reidemeister I. I will conclude with a possible link to subfactor planar algebras from the work of Jones and Penneys.

Intermediate planar algebra revisited

In this paper, we explicitly work out the subfactor planar algebra $P^{(N \subset Q)}$ for an intermediate subfactor $N \subset Q \subset M$ of an irreducible subfactor $N \subset M$ of finite index. We do this in terms of the subfactor planar algebra $P^{(N \subset M)}$ by showing that if $T$ is any planar tangle, the associated operator $Z^{(N \subset Q)}_T$ can be read off from $Z^{(N \subset M)}_T$ by a formula involving the so-called {\em biprojection} corresponding to the intermediate subfactor $N \subset Q \subset M$ and a scalar $α(T)$ carefully chosen so as to ensure that the formula …

The cup subalgebra of a II_1 factor given by a subfactor planar algebra is maximal amenable

To every subfactor planar algebra was associated a II_1 factor with a canonical abelian subalgebra generated by the cup tangle. Using Popa's approximative orthogonality property, we show that this cup subalgebra is maximal amenable.

Planar Para Algebras, Reflection Positivity

We define a planar para algebra, which arises naturally from combining planar algebras with the idea of $\mathbb{Z}_{N}$ para symmetry in physics. A subfactor planar para algebra is a Hilbert space representation of planar tangles with parafermionic defects, that are invariant under para isotopy. Constructing spoke subfactors using the jellyfish algorithm

Using Jones' quadratic tangles formulas, we automate the construction of the 4442, 3333, 3311, and 2221 spoke subfactors by finding sets of 1-strand jellyfish generators. The 4442 spoke subfactor is new, and the 3333, 3311, and 2221 spoke subfactors were previously known.
