Surface photometry of the quiet Sun has achieved an angular resolution of $0".1$ with the New Solar Telescope at Big Bear Solar Observatory revealing that a disproportionate fraction of the oscillatory events appear above observed bright point-like structures. During the tracking of these structures, we noted that the more powerful oscillatory events are cospatial with them, indicating that observed flux tubes may be the source of many observed oscillatory events.
In this work we study a class of recently discovered metrewave solar transients referred to as Weak Impulsive Narrowband Quiet Sun Emission \citep[WINQSEs,][]{mondal2020}. IMaX/Sunrise has recently reported the temporal evolution of highly dynamic and strongly Doppler shifted Stokes V signals in the quiet Sun. We attempt to identify the same quiet-Sun jets in the Hinode spectropolarimeter (SP) data set. We generate combinations of linear polarization magnetograms with blue- and redshifted far-wing circular polarization magnetograms to allow an easy identification of the quiet-Sun jets. We present Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) observations of a quiet-Sun region at a wavelength of 3 mm, obtained during the first solar ALMA cycle on April 27, 2017, and compare them with available chromospheric observations in the UV and visible as well as with photospheric magnetograms. We present high-resolution images of the Sun in the near ultraviolet spectral range between 214 nm and 397 nm as obtained from the first science flight of the 1-m Sunrise balloon-borne solar telescope. The quiet-Sun rms intensity contrasts found in this wavelength range are among the highest values ever obtained for quiet-Sun solar surface structures - up to 32.8% at a wavelength of 214 nm. Recent IRIS observations have revealed a prevalence of intermittent small-scale jets with apparent speeds of 80 - 250 km s$^{-1}$, emanating from small-scale bright regions inside network boundaries of coronal holes. We find that these network jets appear not only in coronal holes but also in quiet-sun regions. Using IRIS 1330A (C II) slit-jaw images, we extract several parameters of these network jets, e.g. apparent speed, length, lifetime and increase in foot-point brightness. We analyze two regions of the quiet Sun (35.6 x 35.6 Mm^2) observed at high spatial resolution (~100 km) in polarized light by the IMaX spectropolarimeter onboard the Sunrise balloon. We identify 497 small-scale (~400 km) magnetic loops, appearing at an effective rate of 0.25 loop h^{-1} arcsec^{-2}; further, we argue that this number and rate are underestimated by ~30%. The magnetic fields of the quiet Sun cover at any time more than 90\% of its surface and their magnetic energy budget is crucial to explain the thermal structure of the solar atmosphere. The behavior of the observed polarization amplitudes with spatial resolution is a strong constraint on the nature and organization of solar magnetic fields below the resolution limit. We report on a detailed radiative transfer modeling of the observed scattering polarization in the H-alpha line, which allows us to infer quantitative information on the magnetization of the quiet solar chromosphere. Our analysis suggests the presence of a magnetic complexity zone with a mean field strength <B> > 30 G lying just below the sudden transition region to the coronal temperatures. This paper reviews some recent advances in the development and application of polarized radiation diagnostics to infer the mean magnetization of the quiet solar atmosphere, from the near equilibrium photosphere to the highly non-equilibrium upper chromosphere. In particular, I show that interpretations of the scattering polarization observed in some spectral lines suggest that while the magnetization of the photosphere and upper chromosphere is very significant, the lower chromosphere seems to be weakly magnetized.
We investigate the free magnetic energy and relative magnetic helicity budgets of solar quiet regions. We have measured the energy and dissipation of Alfvenic waves in the quiet Sun. A magnetic field was used to infer the location and orientation of the magnetic field lines along which the waves are expected to travel. The waves were measured using spectral lines to infer the wave amplitude. The waves cause a non-thermal broadening of the spectral lines, which can be expressed as a non-thermal velocity v_nt. This work presents a systematic investigation of the influence of weather conditions on the calibration errors by using Gaussian fitness, least chi-square linear fitness and wavelet transform to analyze the calibration coefficients from observations of the Chinese Solar Broadband Radio Spectrometers (at frequency bands of 1.0-2.0 GHz, 2.6-3.8 GHz, and 5.2-7.6 GHz) during 1997-2007. We carried out a statistical study of the `quiet' solar corona during the descending phase of the sunspot cycle 24 (i.e. 2015 January - 2019 May) using data obtained with the Gauribidanur RAdioheliograPH (GRAPH) at 53 MHz and 80 MHz simultaneously. Our results show that the equatorial (east-west) diameters of the solar corona at the above two frequencies shrunk steadily. The decrease was found to be due to a gradual reduction in the coronal electron density ($N_{e}$). We investigate mode amplitudes in the active and quiet Sun in both maximum and minimum phases of the solar activity cycle. We confirm previous studies showing that p-mode amplitudes at solar minimum are higher than at solar maximum. We mask active regions of a certain magnetic field strength and compare the masked and unmasked acoustic power. After applying the masks, the preliminary analysis indicates that the amplitude decreases over all degrees during solar minimum, compared to the unmasked case, while at solar maximum the amplitude first decreases up to l ~ 300 and then increases at higher…

In this paper, a potential field extrapolation and three nonlinear force-free (NLFF) field extrapolations (optimization, direct boundary integral (DBIE) and approximate vertical integration (AVI) methods) are used to study the spatial configuration of magnetic field in the quiet Sun. Identification of the mechanisms responsible for heating the solar chromosphere and corona remains an outstanding problem, one of great relevance to late-type stars as well. There has been tremendous progress in the past decade, largely driven by new instruments, new observations, and sophisticated modeling efforts. Despite this progress, gaps remain. We briefly discuss the need for radio coverage of the 3D solar atmosphere and discuss the requirements.

The lifetimes in the degree range 300 - 600 and frequency 2.5 - 4.5 mHz were computed from SOHO/MDI data in an area including active regions and quiet Sun using the time-distance technique. We applied our analysis to the data in four different phases of solar activity: in 1996 (at minimum), 1998 (rising phase), 2000 (at maximum) and 2003 (declining phase). We present first results of a novel technique that provides, for the first time, constraints on the energy input flux at the coronal base ($r\sim\,1.025\,{\rm R}_\odot$) of the quiet-Sun at a global scale. By combining differential emission measure tomography (DEMT) of EUV images, with global models of the coronal magnetic field, we estimate the energy input flux at the coronal base that is required to maintain thermodynamically stable structures. Linear time-distance helioseismic inversions are carried out for vector flow velocities using travel times measured from two $\sim 100^2\,{\rm Mm^2}\times 20\,{\rm Mm}$ realistic magnetohydrodynamic quiet-Sun simulations of about 20 hr. The goal is to test current seismic methods on these state-of-the-art simulations. Magnetic reconnection in the quiet Sun is a phenomenon that is consistently observed, and it has recently become feasible to simulate via 3D numerical models of realistically stratified and convection-driven reconnection. We aim to illustrate ways by which quiet Sun fields may contribute to solar atmospheric heating via magnetic reconnection that is driven by convective motion. The Sun is the only star where we can resolve the intricate magnetism that all convective stars harbor. Yet, more than 99% of its visible surface along the solar cycle (the so-called quiet Sun) is filled with a tangled, unresolved magnetism. These "hidden" fields are thought to store enough magnetic energy to play a role in the heating of the Sun's outer atmosphere, but its field strength is still not constrained. We perform plasma diagnostics, including that of the non-Maxwellian $κ$-distributions, in several structures observed in the solar corona by the Extreme-Ultraviolet Imaging Spectrometer (EIS) onboard the Hinode spacecraft. To prevent uncertainties due to the in-flight calibration of EIS, we selected spectral atlases observed shortly after the launch of the mission. One spectral atlas contains an observation of an active region, while the other is an off-limb quiet Sun region. Observations of the Sun from the Earth are always limited by the presence of the atmosphere, which strongly disturbs the images.
