We relate the problem of irreversibility of entanglement with the recently defined measures of quantum correlation - quantum discord and one-way quantum deficit. We show that the entanglement of formation is always strictly larger than the coherent information and the entanglement cost is also larger in most cases. We prove irreversibility of entanglement under LOCC for a family of entangled states. This family is a generalization of the maximally correlated states for which we also give an analytic expression for the distillable entanglement, the relative entropy of entanglement, the distillable secret key and the quantum discord.
One-way quantum deficit and quantum discord are two important measures of quantum correlations. We revisit the relationship between them in two-qubit systems. We investigate the conditions that both one-way quantum deficit and quantum discord have the same optimal measurement ensembles, and demonstrate that one-way quantum deficit can be derived from the quantum discord for a class of X states. Moreover, we give an explicit relation between one-way quantum deficit and entanglement of formation. We show that under phase damping channel both one-way quantum deficit and quantum discord evolve exa…
We introduce one-way unlocalizable information deficit with respect to the one-way information deficit, similar to the definition of one-way unlocalizable quantum discord with respect to one-way quantum discord. The properties of the one-way unlocalizable information deficit and the relations among one-way unlocalizable information deficit, one-way unlocalizable quantum discord, one-way quantum discord, one-way information deficit and other quantum correlations are investigated. Analytical formulas of the one-way unlocalizable quantum discord are given to detailed examples.
We examine the quantum correlations of spin pairs in the cyclic $XX$ spin 1/2 chain in a transverse field, through the analysis of the quantum discord, the geometric discord and the information deficit. It is shown that while these quantities provide the same qualitative information, being non-zero for all temperatures and separations and exhibiting the same type of asymptotic behavior for large temperatures or separations, important differences arise in the minimizing local measurement that defines them. Whereas the quantum discord prefers a spin measurement perpendicular to the transverse fi…
We calculate analytically the one-way deficit for systems consisting spin-$j$ and spin-${1}{2}$ subsystems with SU(2) symmetry. Comparing our results with the quantum discord of SU(2) invariant states, we show that the one-way deficit is equal to the quantum discord for half-integer $j$, and is larger than the quantum discord for integer $j$. Moreover, we also compare the one-way deficit with entanglement of formation. The quantum entanglement tends to zero as $j$ increases, while the one-way deficit can remain significantly large.
We examine the behavior of quantum correlations of spin pairs in a finite anisotropic $XY$ spin chain immersed in a transverse magnetic field, through the analysis of the quantum discord and the conventional and quadratic one way-information deficits. We first provide a brief review of these measures, showing that the last ones can be obtained as particular cases of a generalized information deficit based on general entropic forms. All these measures coincide with an entanglement entropy in the case of pure states, but can be non-zero in separable mixed states, vanishing just for classically c…
We propose "super one-way deficit" by weak measurement as the generalization of one-way deficit defined for standard projective measurement. The super one-way deficit for Werner state is obtained analytically. We find that super one-way deficit is smaller than the standard one-way deficit, which contrasts with a straightforward expectation based on the known fact that super-quantum discord by weak measurement is always larger than the quantum discord defined by projective measurement. On the other hand, by tuning the weak measurement continuously to the projective measurement, both super one-w…
We investigate the distribution property of one way discord in multipartite system by introducing the concept of polygamy deficit for one way discord. The difference between one way discord and quantum discord is analogue to the difference between entanglement of assistance and entanglement of formation. For tripartite pure states, two kinds of polygamy deficits are presented with the equivalent expressions and physical interpretations regardless of measurement. For four-partite pure states, we provide a condition which makes one way discord polygamy being satisfied. Those results can be appli…
We discuss a generalization of the conditional entropy and one-way information deficit in quantum systems, based on general entropic forms. The formalism allows to consider simple entropic forms for which a closed evaluation of the associated optimization problem in qudit-qubit systems is shown to become feasible, allowing to approximate that of the quantum discord. As application, we examine quantum correlations of spin pairs in the exact ground state of finite $XY$ spin chains in a magnetic field through the quantum discord and information deficit. While these quantities show a similar behav…
We address the issue of reducing the resource required to compute information-theoretic quantum correlation measures like quantum discord and quantum work deficit in two qubits and higher dimensional systems. We show that determination of the quantum correlation measure is possible even if we utilize a restricted set of local measurements. We find that the determination allows us to obtain a closed form of quantum discord and quantum work deficit for several classes of states, with a low error. We show that the computational error caused by the constraint over the complete set of local measure…
Criteria of measure quantifying quantum coherence, a unique property of quantum system, are proposed recently. In this paper, we first give an uncertainty-like expression relating the coherence and the entropy of quantum system. This finding allows us to discuss the relations between the entanglement and the coherence. Further, we discuss in detail the relations among the coherence, the discord and the deficit in the bipartite quantum system. We show that, the one-way quantum deficit is equal to the sum between quantum discord and the relative entropy of coherence of measured subsystem.
We derive quantitative relations among several naturally defined measures of classical and nonclassical correlations in a bipartite quantum state. We also obtain an upper bound of entanglement irreversibility and a sufficient condition for reversible entanglement. The additivity of entanglement of formation is directly related to the additivity of quantum discord as well as a certain measure of classical correlation.
We show that a von Neumann measurement on a part of a composite quantum system unavoidably creates distillable entanglement between the measurement apparatus and the system if the state has nonzero quantum discord. The minimal distillable entanglement is equal to the one-way information deficit. The quantum discord is shown to be equal to the minimal partial distillable entanglement that is the part of entanglement which is lost, when we ignore the subsystem which is not measured. We then show that any entanglement measure corresponds to some measure of quantum correlations. This powerful corr…
We consider the evaluation of the quantum discord and other related measures of quantum correlations in a system formed by a spin 1 and a complementary spin system. A characterization of general projective measurements in such system in terms of spin averages is thereby introduced, which allows to easily visualize their deviation from standard spin measurements. It is shown that the measurement optimizing these measures corresponds in general to a non-spin measurement. The important case of states that commute with the total $S_z$ spin parity is discussed in detail, and the general stationary …
Quantum correlations including entanglement and quantum discord has drawn much attention in characterizing quantum phase transitions. Quantum deficit originates in questions regarding work extraction from quantum systems coupled to a heat bath [Phys. Rev. Lett. 89, 180402 (2002)]. It links quantum thermodynamics with quantum correlations and provides a new standpoint for understanding quantum non-locality. In this paper, we evaluate the one-way deficit of two adjacent spins in the bulk for the XX model. In the thermodynamic limit, the XX model undergoes a first order transition from fully pola…
We introduce the concept of monogamy deficit for quantum correlation by combining together two types of monogamy inequalities depending on different measurement sides. For tripartite pure state, we demonstrate a relation which connects two types of monogamy inequalities for quantum discord and provide the difference between them. By using this relation, we obtain an unified physical interpretation for these two monogamy deficit. In addition, we find an interesting fact that there is a general monogamy condition for several quantum correlations for tripartite pure states. We then provide a nece…
Originating in questions regarding work extraction from quantum systems coupled to a heat bath, quantum deficit, a kind of quantum correlations besides entanglement and quantum discord, links quantum thermodynamics with quantum correlations. In this paper, we evaluate the one-way deficit of two adjacent spins in the bulk for the $XY$ model and its extend model: the extended Ising model. We find that the one-way deficit susceptibility is able to characterize the quantum phase transitions in the $XY$ model and even the topological phase transitions in the extend Ising model. This study may enlig…
Quantum correlations described by quantum discord and one-way quantum deficit can contain ordinary regions with {\em constant} (i.e., universal) optimal measurement angle $0$ or $π/2$ with respect to the $z$-axis and regions with a {\em variable} (state-dependent) angle of the optimal measurement. The latter regions which are absent in the Bell-diagonal states are very tiny for the quantum discord and cannot be observed experimentally due to various imperfections on the preparation and measurement steps of the experiment. On the contrary, for the one-way quantum deficit we succeeded in getting…
The one-way quantum deficit, a measure of quantum correlation, can exhibit for X quantum states the regions (subdomains) with the phases $Δ_0$ and $Δ_{π/2}$ which are characterized by constant (i.e., universal) optimal measurement angles, correspondingly, zero and $π/2$ with respect to the $z$-axis and a third phase $Δ_\vartheta$ with the variable (state-dependent) optimal measurement angle $\vartheta$. We build the complete phase diagram of one-way quantum deficit for the XXZ subclass of symmetric X states. In contrast to the quantum discord where the region for the phase with variable optima…
Quantum correlations may be measured by means of the distance of the state to the subclass of states $Ω$ having well defined classical properties. In particular, a geometric measure of asymmetric discord [Dakic et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 105, 190502 (2010)] was recently defined as the Hilbert-Schmidt distance of a given two-qubit state to the closest classical-quantum (CQ) correlated state. We analyze a geometric measure of symmetric discord defined as the Hilbert-Schmidt distance of a given state to the closest classical-classical (CC) correlated state. The optimal member of $Ω$ is just special…
We present an operational interpretation of quantum discord based on the quantum state merging protocol. Quantum discord is the markup in the cost of quantum communication in the process of quantum state merging, if one discards relevant prior information. Our interpretation has an intuitive explanation based on the strong subadditivity of von Neumann entropy. We use our result to provide operational interpretations of other quantities like the local purity and quantum deficit. Finally, we discuss in brief some instances where our interpretation is valid in the single copy scenario.
Sudden changes of quantum correlations in the Bell-diagonal states are well-known effects. They occur when the set of optimal parameters that determine the quantum correlation consists of isolated points and optimal parameters during the evolution of the system jump from one such point to another (e.g., the optimal measurement angle of the quantum discord changes discontinuously from zero to $π/2$ or vice versa). However, when considering more general X quantum states, we found that quantum discord and one-way quantum work deficit can experience sudden changes of other kinds. Namely, the optim…
