Gravity is a macroscopic manifestation of a microscopic quantum theory of space-time, just as the theories of elasticity and hydrodynamics are the macroscopic manifestation of the underlying quantum theory of atoms. The connection of gravitation and thermodynamics is long and deep. The observation that space-time has a temperature for accelerating observers and horizons is direct evidence that there are underlying microscopic degrees of freedom. The equipartition of energy, meaning of temperature, in these modes leads one to anticipate that there is also an entropy associated. When this entropy is maximized on a volume of space-time, then one retrieves the metric of space-time (i.e. the equations of gravity, e.g. GR). Since the metric satisfies the extremum in entropy on the volume, then the volume integral of the entropy can readily be converted to surface integral, via Gauss's Theorem. This surface integral is simply an integral of the macroscopic entropy flow producing the mean entropy holographic principle. This approach also has the added value that it naturally dispenses with the cosmological constant/vacuum energy problem in gravity except perhaps for second order quantum effects on the mean surface entropy.
We discuss a scenario that the dark matter in late time universe emerges as part of the holographic stress-energy tensor on the hypersurface in higher dimensional flat spacetime. Firstly we construct a toy model with a de Sitter hypersurface as the holographic screen in the flat bulk. After adding the baryonic matter on the screen, we assume that both of the dark matter and dark energy can be described by the Brown-York stress-energy tensor. From the Hamiltonian constraint equation in the flat bulk, we find an interesting relation between the dark matter and baryonic matter's energy density pa…
In this work, we reexamine the holographic dark energy concept proposed already for cosmological applications. By considering, more precisely, the bounds on the entropy arising from lattice field theory on one side and Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of black holes on another side, it is shown that the so-called holographic dark energy cannot be mimicked as easily as claimed in the literature. In addition, the limits on the electron $(g-2)$ experiments are taken into account again. It is shown that the corrections to the electron magnetic momentum are of the order of ${\mathcal{O}}(10^{-23})$.
Quantum fluctuations endow spacetime with a foamy texture. The degree of foaminess is dictated by blackhole physics to be of the holographic type. Applied to cosmology, the holographic foam model predicts the existence of dark energy with critical energy density in the current (late) universe, the quanta of which obey infinite statistics. Furthermore we use the deep similarities between turbulence and the spacetime foam phase of strong quantum gravity to argue that the early universe was in a turbulent regime when it underwent a brief cosmic inflation with a "graceful" transition to a laminar …
We propose a new entropy construct that generalizes the Tsallis, Rényi, Sharma-Mittal, Barrow, Kaniadakis, and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies and reduces to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in a certain limit. This proposal is applied to the Schwarzschild black hole and to spatially homogeneous and isotropic cosmology, where it is shown that it can potentially describe inflation and/or holographic dark energy.
The Schwarzschild singularity is known to be classically unstable. We demonstrate a simple holographic consequence of this fact, focusing on a perturbation that is uniform in boundary space and time. Deformation of the thermal state of the dual CFT by a relevant operator triggers a nonzero temperature holographic renormalization group flow in the bulk. This flow continues smoothly through the horizon and, at late interior time, deforms the Schwarzschild singularity into a more general Kasner universe. We show that the deformed near-singularity, trans-horizon Kasner exponents determine specific…
We propose a new four-parameter entropy function that generalizes the Tsallis, Rényi, Barrow, Sharma-Mittal, Kaniadakis and Loop Quantum Gravity entropies for suitable limits of the parameters. Consequently, we address the early and late universe cosmology corresponding to the proposed four-parameter entropy function. As a result, it turns out that the entropic cosmology from the generalized entropy function can unify the early inflation to the late dark energy era of the universe. In such a unified scenario, we find that -- (1) the inflation era is described by a quasi de-Sitter evolution of …
Considering a thermal state of the dual CFT with a uniform deformation by a scalar operator, we study a holographic renormalization group flow at nonzero temperature in the bulk described by the Einstein-scalar field theory with the self-interaction term $λϕ^4$ in asymptotic anti-de Sitter spacetime. We show that the holographic flow with the self-interaction term could run smoothly through the event horizon of a black hole and deform the Schwarzschild singularity to a Kasner universe at late times. Furthermore, we also study the effect of the scalar self-interaction on the deformed near-singu…
This dissertation investigates thermodynamic, emergent and holographic aspects of gravity in the context of causal diamonds. We obtain a gravitational first law for causal diamonds in maximally symmetric spacetimes and argue that these diamonds are in thermodynamic equilibrium at negative temperature. Further, gravitational field equations, including higher curvature corrections, are derived from an equilibrium condition on the generalized entropy of small maximally symmetric diamonds. Finally, we assign three holographic microscopic quantities to causal diamonds in spherically symmetric space…
We investigate the holographic complexity growth rate of a conformal field theory in a FLRW universe. We consider two ways to realize a FLRW spacetime from an Anti-de Sitter Schwarzschild geometry. The first one is obtained by introducing a new foliation of the Schwarzschild geometry such that the conformal boundary takes the FLRW form. The other one is to consider a brane universe moving in the Schwarzschild background. For each case, we compute the complexity growth rate in a closed universe and a flat universe by using both the complexity-volume and complexity-action dualities. We find that…
We holographically calculate two-point functions in the pseudo-conformal universe, an early universe alternative to inflation. The pseudo-conformal universe can be modeled as a defect conformal field theory, where the reheating surface is a codimension-1 spacelike defect which breaks the conformal algebra to a de Sitter subalgebra. The dual spacetime geometries are domain walls with de-Sitter symmetry in an asymptotically anti-de Sitter spacetime. We compute 2-point functions of scalars and stress tensors by solving the linearized equations for scalar and tensor fluctuations about these backgr…
Employing the modified entropy-area relation suggested by Tsallis and Cirto \cite{non3}, and the holographic hypothesis, a new holographic dark energy (HDE) model is proposed. Considering a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe in which there is no interaction between the cosmos sectors, the cosmic implications of the proposed HDE are investigated. Interestingly enough, we find that the identification of IR-cutoff with the Hubble radius, can lead to the late time accelerated Universe even in the absence of interaction between two dark sectors of the Universe. This is in contrast to th…
