Enhancement of the longitudinal transport by a weakly transversal drive

Transport of Brownian particles in a two-dimensional asymmetric tube is investigated by applying a polarized field. From the Brownian dynamics simulations we find that the longitudinal current can be enhanced remarkably by applying a weakly transversal drive. Multiple current reversals can be realized by altering the driving frequency of the polarized field. By coupling the longitudinal and transversal forces together, one can control the particle transport flexibly.

Giant transversal particle diffusion in a longitudinal magnetic ratchet

We study the transversal motion of paramagnetic particles on a uniaxial garnet film, exhibiting a longitudinal ratchet effect in the presence of an oscillating magnetic field. Without the field, the thermal diffusion coefficient obtained by video microscopy is $D_{0}\approx 3\times 10^{-4}$ $μm^2/s$. With the field, the transversal diffusion exhibits a giant enhancement by almost four decades and a pronounced maximum as a function of the driving frequency. We explain the experimental findings with a theoretical interpretation in terms of random disorder effects within the magnetic film.

The spin-1/2 anisotropic Heisenberg-chain in longitudinal and transversal magnetic fields: a DMRG study

Using the density matrix renormalization group technique, we evaluate the low-energy spectrum (ground state and first excited states) of the anisotropic antiferromagnetic spin-one-half chain under magnetic fields. We study both homogeneous longitudinal and transversal fields as well as the influence of a transversal staggered field on opening of a spin-gap. We find that only a staggered transversal field opens a substantial gap.

Stochastic Model for a Vortex Depinning in Random Media

We present a self-organized stochastic model for the dynamics of a single flux line in random media. The dynamics for the flux line in the longitudinal and the transversal direction to an averaged moving direction are coupled to each other. The roughness exponents of the flux line are measured for each direction, which are close to $α_{\parallel}\approx 0.63$ for the longitudinal and $α_{\perp}\approx 0.5$ for the transversal direction, respectively. The dynamic exponents are obtained as $z\approx 1$ for both directions. We discuss the classification of universality for the stochastic model.

Thermal conductance of suspended nanoribbons: interplay between strain and interatomic potential nonlinearity

We investigate the role that nonlinearity in the interatomic potential has on the thermal conductance of a suspended nanoribbon when it is subjected to a longitudinal strain. To focus on the first cubic and quartic nonlinear terms of a general potential, we propose an atomic system based on an $α$-$β$ Fermi-Pasta-Ulam nearest neighbor interaction. Ratchet transport powered by chiral active particles

We numerically investigate the ratchet transport of mixtures of active and passive particles in a transversal asymmetric channel.A big passive particle is immersed in a 'sea' of active particles. Due to the chirality of active particles, the longitudinal directed transport is induced by the transversal asymmetry.
