Coherent Lambda-Sigma coupling effect in Lambda_He^7 is analyzed within three-body framework of two coupled channels, Lambda-t-t and Sigma-tau-t, where tau represents trinucleon which is either H^3 or He^3. The hyperon-trinucleon (Y tau) and trinucleon-trinucleon (tau tau) interactions are derived by folding G-matrices of YN and NN interactions with trinucleon density distributions. It is found that the binding energy of Lambda_He^7 is 4.04 MeV below the Lambda+t+t threshold without Lambda-Sigma coupling and the binding energy is increased to 4.46 MeV when the coupling effect is included. This state is 7.85 MeV above the He^6+Lambda threshold and it may have a chance to be observed as a Feshbach resonance in Li^7 (e,e'K^+)Lambda_He^7 experiment done at Jefferson Lab.
We describe the Lambda(1405) hyperon as a Feshbach resonance of a bar-KN quasi-bound state coupled by a decaying channel of pi Sigma in the Skyrme model. A weakly bound bar-KN state is generated in the laboratory frame, while the Sigma hyperon as a strongly bound state of bar-KN in the intrinsic frame. We obtain a coupling of bar-KN and pi Sigma channels by computing a baryon matrix element of the axial current. This coupling enables the decay of the bar-KN bound state to pi-Sigma . It is shown that the Skyrme model supports the Lambda(1405) as a narrow Feshbach resonance.
Variational calculations for s-shell hypernuclei are performed by explicitly including $Σ$ degrees of freedom. Four sets of YN interactions (SC97d(S), SC97e(S), SC97f(S) and SC89(S)) are used. The bound-state solution of $_Λ^5$He is obtained and a large energy expectation value of the tensor $ΛN-ΣN$ transition part is found. The internal energy of the $^4$He subsystem is strongly affected by the presence of a $Λ$ particle with the strong tensor $ΛN-ΣN$ transition potential.
Properties of hypernuclei are studied in the context of a chiral Lagrangian which successfully describes ordinary nuclei. Lambda-Sigma^0 mixing arises from nondiagonal vertices in flavor space induced by the vector mesons and by the electromagnetic field. The set of Dirac equations for the coupled hyperon system is discussed. Results are presented for energy spectra and electromagnetic properties of hyperons in the nuclear environment. Simple estimates suggest that flavor mixing can lead to sizable changes in the lifetimes of Lambda hypernuclei.
By use of the resonating group method, the Delta K, Lambda K, and Sigma K states are further dynamically studied in the extended chiral SU(3) quark model based on our previous work. Similar to the results given by the original chiral SU(3) quark model, the calculated results here still show that the interactions of Delta K with isospin I=1 and Sigma K with isospin I=1/2 are attractive, which can consequently lead to Delta K and Sigma K quasibound states. When the channel coupling of Lambda K and Sigma K is considered, the calculated phase shifts show a sharp resonance between the thresholds of…
We reexamine the spin-orbit splitting of 9 Lambda Be excited states in terms of the SU_6 quark-model baryon-baryon interaction. The previous folding procedure to generate the Lambda alpha spin-orbit potential from the quark-model Lambda N LS interaction kernel predicted three to five times larger values for Delta E_{ell s}=E_x(3/2^+)-E_x(5/2^+) in the model FSS and fss2. This time, we calculate Lambda alpha LS Born kernel, starting from the LS components of the nuclear-matter G-matrix for the Lambda hyperon. This framework makes it possible to take full account of an important P-wave Lambda N …
Polarization properties of strange baryons produced in pp reactions, p + p -> p + Lambda^0 + K^+ and p + p -> p + Sigma^0 + K^$, near thresholds of the final states (p Lambda^0 K^+) and (p Sigma^0 K^+) are analysed relative to polarizations of colliding protons. The cross sections for pp reactions are calculated within the effective Lagrangian approach accounting for strong pp rescattering in the initial state of colliding protons with a dominant contribution of the one-pion exchange and strong final-state interaction of daughter hadrons (Eur. Phys. J. A 9, 425 (2000)).
We calculate Lambda alpha, Sigma alpha and Xi alpha potentials from the nuclear-matter G-matrices of the SU6 quark-model baryon-baryon interaction. The alpha-cluster wave function is assumed to be a simple harmonic-oscillator shell-model wave function. A new method is proposed to derive the direct and knock-on terms of the interaction Born kernel from the hyperon-nucleon G-matrices, with explicit treatments of the nonlocality and the center-of-mass motion between the hyperon and alpha. We find that the SU6 quark-model baryon-baryon interactions, FSS and fss2, yield a reasonable bound-state ene…
The reaction K- d -> pi Sigma N is investigated taking into account single scattering and the two-step process due to Kbar N -> pi Sigma rescattering. The influence of some common approximations are examined. It is found that the treatment of the kinematics in the Green's function that appears in the loop integral of the rescattering process has a rather strong impact on the resulting lineshape of the pi Sigma invariant mass spectrum. Specifically, a calculation with correct kinematics where the three-body unitarity cut due to the nK- p threshold occurs at the physical value yields a pronounce…
The K^- induced production of Lambda(1405) is investigated in K^- d to pi Sigma n reactions based on coupled-channels chiral dynamics, in order to discuss the resonance position of the Lambda(1405) in the KbarN channel. We find that the K^-d to Lambda(1405)n process favors the production of Lambda(1405) initiated by the KbarN channel. The present approach indicates that the Lambda(1405) resonance position is 1420 MeV rather than 1405 MeV in the pi Sigma invariant mass spectra of K- d to pi Sigma n reactions. This is consistent with an observed spectrum of the K^- d to pi^+ Sigma^- n with 686-8…
We describe full-coupled-channel ab initio calculations among the octet baryons for S=-2 s-shell hypernuclei,_{LambdaLambda}^4H,_{LambdaLambda}^5H and_{LambdaLambda}^6He. The wave function includes Lambda Lambda, Lambda Sigma, N Xi, and Sigma Sigma channels. Minnesota NN, D2^\prime YN and Nijmegen model D simulated YY interactions are used. This is the first attempt to explore the few-body problem of the full-coupled channel scheme for A=4-6, S=-2 multistrangeness hypernuclear systems. Bound state solutions of the Lambda Lambda hypernuclei,_{LambdaLambda}^4H,_{LambdaLambda}^5H and _{LambdaLamb…
The strong decays of excited nonstrange baryons into the final states Lambda K, Sigma K, and for the first time into Lambda(1405) K, Lambda(1520) K, Sigma(1385) K, Lambda K*, and Sigma K*, are examined in a relativized quark pair creation model. The wave functions and parameters of the model are fixed by previous calculations of N pi and N pi pi, etc., decays. Our results show that it should be possible to discover several new negative parity excited baryons and confirm the discovery of several others by analyzing these final states in kaon production experiments. We also establish clear predi…
A coupled channels analysis, based on the K-matrix approach, is presented for photo-induced kaon production. It is shown that channel coupling effects are large and should not be ignored. The importance of contact terms in the analysis, associated with short range correlations, is pointed out. The extracted parameters are compared with SU(3)-model predictions.
Non-mesonic decay of kaonic nuclei is investigated under a Lambda(1405) doorway picture where the Kbar absorptions in nuclei take place through the Lambda(1405) resonance. Calculating Lambda(1405) N to YN transitions in one-meson exchange, we find that the non-mesonic decay ratio Gamma_{Lambda N} / Gamma_{Sigma^{0} N} depends strongly on the ratio of the couplings Lambda(1405)-Kbar N and Lambda(1405)-pi Sigma. Especially a larger Lambda(1405)-Kbar N coupling leads to enhancement of the decay to Lambda N. Using the chiral unitary approach for description of the Kbar N amplitudes, we obtain Gamm…
We formulated the $Lambda(1405)$ (abbreviated as $Lambda^*$) $rightarrow (Sigmapi)^0$ invariant-mass spectra produced in the $K^- + p rightarrow Sigma^+ (1660) + pi^-$, followed by $Sigma^+ (1660) rightarrow Lambda(1405) + pi^+ rightarrow Sigmapi + pi^+$, processes at $p(K^-) = 4.2$ GeV/$c$, in which both the incident channel for a quasi-bound $K^-p$ state and its decay process to $(Sigma pi)^0$ were taken into account realistically. We calculated $M(Sigma pi)$ spectral shapes using mixed transition matrices, $T_{21} = T_{ Sigmapi leftarrow K^-p}$ and $T_{22} = T_{ Sigma pi leftarrow Sigma pi}…
We extend the effective field theory approach which successfully describes ordinary nuclei and nuclear matter to incorporate strangeness in nuclear structure. Central object is a chiral effective Lagrangian involving the baryon octet, the Goldstone boson octet, the vector meson octet and a light scalar singlet. According to the rules of effective field theory, we include all interaction terms (up to a given order of truncation) that are consistent with the underlying symmetries of QCD. We develop a mean-field approximation and study nuclear matter as a simple model for multi-strange systems. A…
An OBE potential model for the ^{1}S_0 S = -2 interaction is analyzed with emphasis on the role of coupling between the Lambda Lambda, N Xi, and Sigma Sigma channels. Singlet scalar exchange, an approximation to two-pion exchange, is significant in all channels; surprisingly, the one-pion exchange component is almost negligible. The size of the channel coupling as a function of the overall strength of the OBE model potential is examined. Implications of the analysis for the binding energy of ^{6}_{Lambda Lambda}He are considered; the new experimental datum may suggest a consistency between the…
Non-mesonic transition of Lambda(1405) N to YN is investigated as one of the essential processes for the non-mesonic absorption of Kbar in nuclei. Using one-meson exchange model in the calculation of the transition, we find that the non-mesonic transition ratio Gamma_{Lambda N} / Gamma_{Sigma N} depends strongly on the ratio of the Lambda(1405) (Lambda^*) couplings to Kbar N and pi Sigma. Especially a larger Lambda^*-Kbar N coupling leads to enhancement of the transition to Lambda N. Using the chiral unitary model for the description of the Lambda^*, we obtain Gamma_{Lambda N} / Gamma_{Sigma^{…
We determine the helicity amplitudes A_1/2 and radiative decay widths in the transition Lambda(1670) to gamma Y (Y=Lambda or Sigma^0). The Lambda(1670) is treated as a dynamically generated resonance in meson-baryon chiral dynamics. We obtain the radiative decay widths of the Lambda(1670) to gamma Lambda as 3 \pm 2 keV and to gamma Sigma^0 as 120 \pm 50 keV. Also, the Q^2 dependence of the helicity amplitudes A_1/2 is calculated. We find that the K Xi component in the Lambda(1670) structure, mainly responsible for the dynamical generation of this resonance, is also responsible for the signific…
A model calculation for the reactions $pp\to pΛK^+$ and $pp\to NΣK$ near their thresholds is presented. It is argued that the experimentally observed strong suppression of $Σ^0$ production compared to $Λ$ production at the same excess energy could be due to a destructive interference between the $π$ and $K$ exchange contributions in the reaction $pp\to pΣ^0 K^+$. Predictions for $pp\to pΣ^+ K^0$ and $pp\to nΣ^+ K^+$ are given.
The S-wave Sigma_c Dbar and Lambda_c Dbar states with isospin I=1/2 and spin S=1/2 are dynamically investigated within the framework of a chiral constituent quark model by solving a resonating group method (RGM) equation. The results show that the interaction between Sigma_c and Dbar is attractive, which consequently results in a Sigma_c Dbar bound state with the binding energy of about 5-42 MeV, unlike the case of Lambda_c Dbar state, which has a repulsive interaction and thus is unbound. The channel coupling effect of Sigma_c Dbar and Lambda_c Dbar is found to be negligible due to the fact t…
A recently developed non-perturbative chiral approach to dynamically generate the (3/2^-) baryon resonances has been extended to investigate the radiative decays Lambda^*(1520) --> gamma Lambda(1116) and Lambda^*(1520) --> gamma Sigma^0(1193). We show that the Lambda^*(1520) decay into gamma Lambda is an ideal test for the need of extra components of the resonance beyond those provided by the chiral approach since the largest meson-baryon components give no contribution to this decay. The case is different for gamma Sigma decay where the theory agrees with experiment, though the large uncertai…
We show that the recently measured asymmetry in helicity-angle spectra of the Lambda-hyperons produced in the reaction pp -> K^+Lambda p reaction and the energy dependence of the total pp -> K^+Lambda p cross section can be explained consistently by the same Lambda p final-state interaction. Assuming that there is no final-state interaction in the Sigma^0 p channel, as suggested by the available data, we can also reproduce the energy dependence of the Lambda/Sigma^0 production ratio and, in particular, the rather large ratio observed near the reaction thresholds. The nominal ratio of the Lambd…
Using the SU6 quark-model baryon-baryon interaction recently developed by the Kyoto-Niigata group, we calculate NN, Lambda N and Sigma N G-matrices in ordinary nuclear matter. This is the first attempt to discuss the Lambda and Sigma single-particle potentials in nuclear medium, based on the realistic quark-model potential. The Lambda potential has the depth of more than 40 MeV, which is more attractive than the value expected from the experimental data of Lambda-hypernuclei. The Sigma potential turns out to be repulsive, the origin of which is traced back to the strong Pauli repulsion in the …
We formulated the Lambda(1405) (abbreviated as Lambda^*) --> (Sigma pi)^0 invariant-mass spectra produced in p+p --> p + Lambda^* + K^+ reactions, in which both the incident channel for a quasi-bound K^-p state and its decay process to (Sigma pi)^0 were taken into account realistically. We calculated M(Sigma pi) spectral shapes for various theoretical models for Lambda^*. They are asymmetric and skewed, and were compared with recent experimental data of HADES, yielding M(Lambda^*) = 1405 -9 +11 MeV/c^2 and Gamma = 62 +- 10 MeV, where the interference effects of the Kbar N-Sigma pi resonance wi…
The in-medium properties of a hyperon-nucleon potential, derived within chiral effective field theory and fitted to Lambda-N and Sigma-N scattering data, are investigated. Results for the single-particle potentials of the Lambda and Sigma hyperons in nuclear matter are reported, based on a conventional first-order Brueckner calculation. The Sigma-nucleus potential is found to be repulsive, in agreement with phenomenological information. A weak Lambda-nucleus spin-orbit interaction can be achieved by an appropriate adjustment of a low-energy constant corresponding to an antisymmetric Lambda-N -…
We have revisited the possible existence and the binding mechanism of heavy hyperhydrogen 6^H_Lambda. This Lambda hypernucleus is enriched in information about Lambda hypernuclear dynamics which would shed a light on significant role of coherent Lambda-Sigma coupling effect in neutron-rich nuclear medium, discussed by the authors. Recently, reports on an experimental evidence of 6^H_Lambda with theoretical comparison have appeared, wherein the significance of the coherent coupling in 6^H_Lambda has been criticized. In this report, we are revising our previous work and give further theoretical …
The scattering lengths of the pi Sigma systems are key quantities in understanding the structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance and the subthreshold extrapolation of the barK N interaction. We demonstrate that the pi Sigma scattering lengths can be extracted from the threshold cusp phenomena in the weak Lambda_c -> pi pi Sigma decays, analogously with Cabibbo's method for determination of the pi pi scattering length. We show that the substantial cusp effect should be observed in the spectrum, when the pi Sigma interaction in I=0 is strongly attractive to generate a near-threshold singularity, s…
The latest measurements of the atomic level width in Sigma-hyperonic Pb atom offer the most accurate datum in the region of low-energy Sigma-hyperon physics. Atomic widths are due to the conversion of Sigma-nucleon into Lambda-nucleon. In high angular momentum states this conversion is dominated by the one-pion exchange. A joint analysis of the data of the scattering of negative-Sigma on proton converting into a Lambda and a neutron and of the atomic widths allows to extract a pseudovector pion-hyperon-Sigma coupling constant of 0.048 with a statistical error of +-0.005 and a systematic one of…
We analyze the reaction gamma + d --> K^+ + Lambda (Sigma) + N using the Nijmegen soft core hyperon-nucleon interactions NSC97f and NSC89 and a recently updated production operator for the gamma + N --> K^+ + Lambda(Sigma) processes. Significant effects of the YN final state interaction are found near both the K^+ Lambda N and K^+ Sigma N thresholds.
Nonmesonic weak decays of s-shell hypernuclei are analyzed in microscopic models for the Lambda N to NN weak interaction. A scalar-isoscalar meson, sigma, is introduced and its importance in accounting the decay rates, n/p ratios and proton asymmetry is demonstrated. Possible violation of the Delta I=1/2 rule in the nonmesonic weak decay of Lambda is discussed in a phenomenological analysis and several useful constraints are presented. The microscopic calculation shows that the current experimental data indicate a large violation of the Delta I=1/2 rule, although no definite conclusion can be …
A Kbar N-pi Sigma-pi Lambda coupled-channel potential is constructed on the basis of chiral SU(3) dynamics. Several matching conditions are introduced to formulate an equivalent local potential that reproduces the coupled-channel scattering amplitudes resulting from chiral SU(3)_L times SU(3)_R meson-baryon effective field theory. In contrast to a previously constructed effective single-channel Kbar N potential, the explicit treatment of the pi Sigma channel yields a natural description of the low-mass pole as part of the two-pole structure of the Lambda(1405) resonance. The energy dependence …
We study the mechanism of the weak decay process of Xi_b^0 into D^0 with a meson-baryon pair. It is shown that the dominant component of the prompt weak decay produces the meson-baryon pair with the spectator strange quark being transferred to the baryon, so that the Kbar N channel is absent. Subsequent final state interaction then reflects the pi Sigma originated Lambda(1405) formation amplitude, which has been difficult to access in previous experimental studies. We predict the line shapes of the pi Sigma invariant mass distribution using a realistic chiral meson-baryon amplitude for the fin…
We make a study of the (pi^- p --> K^0 pi^0 Lambda), (pi^+ p --> K^+ pi^+ Lambda), (K^+\bar{K}^0 p), (K^+ pi^+ Sigma^0), (K^+ pi^0 Sigma^+), and (eta pi^+ p) reactions, in which the basic dynamics is given by the excitation of the Delta^*(1700) resonance which subsequently decays into (K Sigma^*(1385)) or (Delta(1232) eta). In a similar way we also study the (gamma p --> K^0 pi^+ Lambda), (K^+ pi^- Sigma^+), (K^+ pi^+ Sigma^-), (K^0 pi^0 Sigma^+), and (eta pi^0 p) related reactions. The cross sections are proportional to the square of the coupling of Delta^*(1700) to (Sigma^*K), (Delta eta) fo…
We perform a preliminary study of the 1/2+ and 3/2+ ground-state baryons containing a heavy quark in the framework of the chiral SU(3) quark model. By using the calculus of variations, masses of Lambda_Q, Sigma_Q, Xi_Q, Omega_Q, Sigma_Q^*, Xi_Q^* and Omega_Q^*, where Q means c or b quark, are calculated. With taking reasonable model parameters, the numerical results of established heavy baryons are generally in agreement with the available experimental data, except that those of Xi_Q are somewhat heavier. For Omega_b with undetermined experimental mass and nobserved Xi_b^*, Omega_b^*, reasonab…
We discuss properties of baryon resonances belonging to the Nucleon, Delta, Sigma, Lambda, Xi and Omega families in a collective string-like model for the nucleon, in which the radial excitations are interpreted as rotations and vibrations of the string configuration. We find good overall agreement with the available data. The main discrepancies are found for low lying S-wave states, in particular N(1535), N(1650), Sigma(1750), Lambda*(1405), Lambda(1670) and Lambda(1800).
To solve the current debate on the position of the quasi-bound K^-p state, namely, "Lambda(1405) or Lambda*(1420)", we propose to measure the T_{21} = T_{Sigma-pi \leftarrow Kbar-N} Sigma-pi invariant-mass spectrum in stopped-K- absorption in deuteron, since the spectrum, reflecting the soft and hard deuteron momentum distribution, is expected to have a narrow quasi-free component with an upper edge of M = 1430 MeV/c^2, followed by a significant "high-momentum" tail toward the lower mass region, where a resonant formation of Lambda(1405) of any mass and width in a wide range is revealed. We in…
The three electromagnetic form factors for the transition from a 3/2+ Sigma* hyperon to the ground-state Lambda hyperon are studied. At low energies, combinations of the transition form factors can be deduced from Dalitz decays of the Sigma* hyperon to Lambda plus an electron-positron pair. It is pointed out how more information can be obtained with the help of the self-analyzing weak decay of the Lambda. In particular it is shown that these transition form factors are complex quantities already in this kinematical region. Such measurements are feasible at hyperon factories as for instance the…
Using dispersion theory the low-energy electromagnetic form factors for the transition of a Sigma to a Lambda hyperon are related to the pion vector form factor. The additionally required input, i.e. the two-pion--Sigma--Lambda amplitudes are determined from relativistic next-to-leading-order (NLO) baryon chiral perturbation theory including the baryons from the octet and optionally from the decuplet. Pion rescattering is again taken into account by dispersion theory. It turns out that the inclusion of decuplet baryons is not an option but a necessity to obtain reasonable results. The electric…
Recent experimental evidence presented by the FINUDA Collaboration for a particle-stable Lambda-6H has stirred renewed interest in charting domains of particle-stable neutron-rich Lambda hypernuclei, particularly for unbound nuclear cores. We have studied within a shell-model approach several neutron-rich Lambda hypernuclei in the nuclear p shell that could be formed in (pi-,K+) or in (K-,pi+) reactions on stable nuclear targets. Hypernuclear shell-model input is taken from a theoretically inspired successful fit of gamma-ray transitions in p-shell Lambda hypernuclei which includes also Lambda…
In this Reply, we respond to the above Comment. Our computation [Phys. Rev. D 91 (2015) 074512] only took into account pure QCD effects, arising from quark mass differences, so it is not surprising that there are discrepancies in isospin splittings and in the Sigma - Lambda mixing angle. We expect that these discrepancies will be smaller in a full calculation incorporating QED effects.
The Sigma-pi invariant-mass spectra in the resonant capture of K- at rest in 4He, 3He and d are calculated by a coupled-channel procedure for a K-p quasi-bound state of an arbitrary chosen mass (M) and width (Gamma). A chi2 analysis of old 4He bubble chamber data shows a dominance of the s-orbit absorption, and yielded M = 1405.5 ^(+1.4)_(-1) MeV/c2 and Gamma = 26 ^(+4)_(-3) MeV, where a possible population of Sigma0(1385) and also a small p-orbit capture contribution are taken into account. This result confirms the Lambda(1405) ansatz, whereas recent chiral-SU(3) predictions (M ~ 1420 MeV/c2)…
The branching ratios of K^- absorption at rest in nuclear matter are theoretically investigated in order to understand the mechanism of K^- absorption into nuclei. For this purpose mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are evaluated as functions of nuclear density, the kaon momentum and energy from one- and two-body K^- self-energy, respectively. By using a chiral unitary approach for the s-wave Kbar N amplitude we find that both the mesonic and nonmesonic absorption potentials are dominated by the Lambda(1405) contributions. The fraction of the mesonic and nonmesonic absorptions are ev…
We extend the study of a JP=2+, I=3/2 pion-Lambda-nucleon quasibound state [Phys. Rev. D 78, 014013 (2008)] by solving nonrelativistic Faddeev equations, using 3S1-3D1, Lambda N - Sigma N coupled channels Chiral Quark Model local interactions, and pion-nucleon and coupled pion-Lambda - pion-Sigma separable interactions fitted to the position and decay parameters of the Delta(1232) and Sigma(1385) resonances, respectively. The results exhibit a strong sensitivity to the p-wave pion-hyperon interaction, with a pion-Lambda-nucleon quasibound state persisting over a wide range of acceptable parame…
The pi-Lambda-N - pi-Sigma-N coupled-channel system with quantum numbers (Y,I,JP) = (1,3/2,2+) is studied in a relativistic three-body model, using two-body separable interactions in the dominant p-wave pion-baryon and 3S1 YN channels. Three-body equations are solved in the complex energy plane to search for quasibound-state and resonance poles, producing a robust narrow pi-Lambda-N resonance about 10 - 20 MeV below the pi-Sigma-N threshold. Viewed as a dibaryon, it is a 5S2 quasibound state consisting of Sigma(1385)-N and Delta(1232)-Y components. Comparison is made between the present relati…
We investigate the pp --> p Lambda K+ and pp --> p Sigma0 K+ reactions at beam energies near their thresholds within an effective Lagrangian model, where the strangeness production proceeds via the excitation of N*(1650), N*(1710), and N*(1720) baryonic resonances. It is found that the $N^*$(1650) resonance dominates both these reactions at near threshold energies. The contributions from this resonance together with the final state interaction among the outgoing particles are able to explain the observed beam energy dependence of the ratio of the cross sections of the two reactions in the near…
The properties of the Lambda(1405) resonance are key ingredients for determining the antikaon-nucleon interaction in strangeness nuclear physics, and the novel internal structure of the Lambda(1405) is of great interest in hadron physics, as a prototype case of a baryon that does not fit into the simple three-quark picture. We show that a quantitative description of the antikaon-nucleon interaction with the Lambda(1405) is achieved in the framework of chiral SU(3) dynamics, with the help of recent experimental progress. Further constraints on the Kbar N subthreshold interaction are provided by…
The quark-meson coupling (QMC) model, which has been successfully used to describe the properties of both infinite nuclear matter and finite nuclei, is applied to a systematic study of $Λ, Σ$ and $Ξ$ hypernuclei. Assumptions made in the present study are, (i) the (self-consistent) exchanged scalar, and vector, mesons couple only to the u and d quarks, and (ii) an SU(6) valence quark model for the bound nucleons and hyperon. The model automatically leads to a very weak spin-orbit interaction for the $Λ$ in a hypernucleus. Effects of the Pauli blocking at the quark level, particularly in the ope…
Possible existence of deeply bound kaonic nuclear systems was proposed Akaishi and Yamazaki (2002} more than a decade ago, based on an ansatz that the Lambda* = Lambda(1405) mass is 1405 MeV/c2, where the Lambda* is a Kbar-N quasi-bound state decaying to Sigma-pi. Recently, a large number of data on photo-production of Lambda(1405) in the gamma p to K+ pi{0+-} Sigma{0-+} reaction were provided by the CLAS collaboration Moriya et al.(2013}, and double-pole structure of the Lambda* has been intensively discussed by chiral dynamics analyses {Roca (2013),Mai 2015}, whereas we show that a Lambda* m…
The hyperon-nucleon interaction with the strangeness $S=-1$ region is complicated and difficult to investigate because its flavor sector involves all the irreducible representation except the flavor singlet and has the worst signal-to-noise ratio among the strangeness regions. In order to overcome such difficulties the content of this report is twofold: (i) We present an implementation of extended effective baryon block algorithm. This is a straightforward extension of the original which was reported in LATTICE 2013. (ii) We perform single channel analysis for the $ΛN$ system at nearly physica…
Shell-model calculations that include both Lambda and Sigma configurations with p-shell cores are used to interpret gamma-ray transitions in Lambda-7Li, -9Be, -10B, -11B, -12C, -15N, and -16O observed with the Hyperball array of Ge detectors. It is shown that the data puts strong constraints on the spin dependence of the Lambda-N effective interaction and that the Lambda-Sigma coupling plays an important role.
The interpretation of hypernuclear gamma-ray data for p-shell hypernuclei in terms of shell-model calculations that include the coupling of Lambda- and Sigma-hypernuclear states is briefly reviewed. Next, Lambda 8Li, Lambda 8Be, and Lambda 9Li are considered, both to exhibit features of Lambda-Sigma coupling and as possible source of observed, but unassigned, hypernuclear gamma rays. Then, the feasibility of measuring the ground-state doublet spacing of Lambda 10Be, which, like Lambda 9Li, could be studied via the (K-,pi0 gamma) reaction, is investigated. Structural information relevant to the…
We develop a model that describes the gamma p -> K^+ pi Sigma reaction in the Lambda(1405) region. The model consists of gauge invariant photo-production mechanisms, and the chiral unitary model that gives the rescattering amplitudes where Lambda(1405) is contained. The model also contains phenomenological parameters, associated with short-range dynamics, to be used in fitting data. We successfully fit recent CLAS data for the pi-Sigma invariant mass distributions (line-shape) in the gamma p -> K^+ pi Sigma reaction for all the charge states. We find that the higher mass pole for Lambda(1405) …
We discuss the mass spectrum and strong decays of baryon resonances belonging to the N, Delta, Sigma, Lambda, Xi and Omega families in a collective string-like model for the nucleon. We find good overall agreement with the available data. Systematic discrepancies are found for lowlying S-wave states, in particular in the strong decays of N(1535), N(1650), Sigma(1750), Lambda(1405), Lambda(1670) and Lambda(1800).
Recent CLAS data for the pi Sigma invariant mass distributions (line-shapes) in the gamma p -> K^+ pi Sigma reaction are theoretically investigated. The line-shapes have peaks associated with the Lambda(1405) excitation. Our model consists of gauge invariant photo-production mechanisms, and the chiral unitary model that gives the rescattering amplitudes where Lambda(1405) is contained. It is found that, while the pi Sigma line-shape data in the Lambda(1405) region are successfully reproduced by our model for all the charge states, the production mechanism is not so simple that we need to intro…
We present our recent study on baryon-baryon ($BB$) interactions from lattice QCD with almost physical quark masses corresponding to $(m_π,m_K)\approx(146,525)$ MeV and large volume $(La)^4=(96a)^4\approx$ (8.1 fm)$^4$. In order to perform a comprehensive study of $BB$ interactions based on lattice QCD calculation with almost physical masses and to make better use of such large scale computer resources, a large number of $BB$ interactions from $NN$ to $ΞΞ$ are calculated simultaneously. In this report, we focus on the strangeness $S=-1$ channels of the hyperon interactions by means of HAL QCD …
The $S$-wave $ΛK$ and $ΣK$ states with isospin $I=1/2$ are dynamically investigated within the framework of the chiral SU(3) quark model by solving a resonating group method (RGM) equation. The model parameters are taken from our previous work, which gave a good description of the energies of the baryon ground states, the binding energy of the deuteron, and the experimental data of the nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) and nucleon-hyperon ($NY$) scattering. Assumed not to give important contributions in the scattering processes, the s-channel quark-antiquark ($q\bar q$) annihilation interactions are not …
