We present a new type of brane inflation motivated by multi-kink solitonic solutions of a scalar field in five dimensions. In the thin brane limit, we analyze a non-static configuration in which the distance between two parallel domain walls decreases. We show that the ensuing spacetime is inflationary, both on the branes, and, for certain potentials, in the bulk. We argue that this inflationary regime is transitory and can end via a brane merger into a single kink solution - a flat, thick brane RS2 universe. This scenario is quite general; we show that any potential which supports a single flat kink solution is also likely to support an inflationary multi-kink configuration.
We construct a solitonic 3-brane solution in the 6-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert-Gauss-Bonnet theory with a (negative) cosmological term. This solitonic brane world is delta-function-like. Near the brane the metric is that for a product of the 4-dimensional flat Minkowski space with a 2-dimensional ``wedge'' with a deficit angle (which depends on the solitonic brane tension). Far from the brane the metric approaches that for a product of the 5-dimensional AdS space and a circle. This solitonic solution exists for a special value of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling (for which we also have a delta-funct…
We construct a solitonic 3-brane solution in the 5-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert-Gauss-Bonnet theory. This solitonic brane is delta-function like, and has the property that gravity is completely localized on the brane. That is, there are no propagating degrees of freedom in the bulk, while on the brane we have purely 4-dimensional Einstein gravity. Thus, albeit the classical background is 5-dimensional, the quantum theory (perturbatively) is 4-dimensional. Our solution can be embedded in the supergravity context, where we have completely localized supergravity on the corresponding solitonic bra…
We point out some intriguing analogies between field theoretic solitons (topological defects) and D-branes. Annihilating soliton-antisoliton pairs can produce stable solitons of lower dimensionality. Solitons that localize massless gauge fields in their world volume automatically imply the existence of open flux tubes ending on them and closed flux tubes propagating in the bulk. We discuss some aspects of this localization on explicit examples of unstable wall-anti-wall systems. The annihilation of these walls can be described in terms of tachyon condensation which renders the world-volume gau…
Some time ago Dvali, Gabadadze and Senjanovic (hep-ph/9910207) discussed brane world scenarios with time-like extra dimensions. In this paper we construct a solitonic 3-brane solution in the 5-dimensional Einstein-Hilbert-Gauss-Bonnet theory with the space-time signature (-,+,+,+,-). The direction transverse to the brane is the second time-like direction. The solitonic brane is $δ$-function like, and has the property that gravity is completely localized on the brane. That is, there are no propagating degrees of freedom in the bulk, while on the brane we have purely 4-dimensional Einstein gravi…
We discuss a brane based inflationary scenario in which an initially non-supersymmetric configuration involving a D4 brane is dynamically transformed into a supersymmteric one in a background space-time geometry determined by a stack of D6 branes. Inflation is realized in the effective four dimensional theory and ends after reaching a stable BPS configuration. The scalar spectral index turns out to be 0.98. Under some simplifying assumption the reheat temperature, Hubble constant and the string scale are estimated to be of order $10^{8}$ GeV, $10^{12}$ GeV and $10^{16}$ GeV, respectively.
We consider a probe codimension-2 brane inflation scenario in a warped six-dimensional flux compactification. Our background model is Salam-Sezgin gauged supergravity with codimension-2 brane sources, which preserve N=1 supersymmetry. The model has a modulus, which is stabilised by means of a cap regularisation of the codimension-2 singularities, with appropriate dilaton potentials on the ring interface of the caps with the bulk. We discuss the cosmological evolution of the world-volume of a probe codimension-2 brane when it moves along the radial direction of the internal space. In order to h…
We consider moving-brane-solutions in AdS type back ground. In the first Randall-Sundrum configuration, there are two branes at fixed points of the orbifold symmetry. We point out that if one brane is fixed and the other brane is moving, the configuration is still a solution provided the moving brane has a specific velocity determined by its tension and bulk cosmological constant. In the absence of the $\bf Z_2$ symmetry, we can construct multi-brane configurations by patching AdS-Schwarzshild solutions. In this case, we show that the 4-dimensional effective cosmological constant on the brane …
We demonstrate that there exists an inflationary solution on the positive tension brane in the Randall-Sundrum scenario. Inflation is driven by a slow-rolling scalar field on the brane and is achieved within the perturbative limit of the radion field. We find that inflation on the positive tension brane results in a slight increase in the separation between the two branes. However, we show that the slow-roll inflation is not possible on the negative tension brane.
We study inflation and reheating in models for the brane universe, considering hybrid brane inflation without tachyon condensation. We expect that some fields that are localized on different branes interact with O(1) coupling when branes are on top of each other, while the interaction vanishes when branes are separated at a distance. If the interaction is needed to avoid spontaneous breaking of supersymmetry on the brane, our idea for hybrid brane inflation works. In our model, when branes are far apart, supersymmetry is spontaneously broken by the fields on a brane, which induces inflation. T…
We consider non-tachyonic hybrid inflation in the context of the braneworld cosmology. When one considers models for brane inflation, hybrid inflation is a natural consequence of the tachyon condensation if it appears at the end of inflation. In this case, however, reheating is a difficult problem due to the peculiar properties of the tachyon. In this paper we show some models for brane inflation where a new type of hybrid inflation is realized due to the localized matter fields. The obvious advantage of our scenario is successful reheating, which is due to the potential that is localized on t…
In this paper we consider a class of inflation models on the brane where the dominant part of the inflaton scalar potential does not depend on the inflaton field value during inflation. In particular, we consider supernatural inflation, its hilltop version, A-term inflation, and supersymmetric (SUSY) D- and F-term hybrid inflation on the brane. We show that the parameter space can be broadened, the inflation scale generally can be lowered, and still possible to have the spectral index $n_s=0.96$.
We study cosmological defect formation after brane inflation. The cosmological defects are corresponding to the branes that have less than three spacial dimensions in the uncompactified spacetime. Contrary to the previous arguments, production of monopoles and domain walls are not always negligible. Monopoles and domain walls are formed by the branes extended between mother branes.
We study heavy-quark potential in an inflationary braneworld scenario. The scenario we consider is an (Euclidean) inflating braneworld $AdS_4$ embedded in a static Euclidean $AdS_5$. Using gauge/gravity duality we obtain a confining phase depending on the ratio between the Hubble parameter $H$ in the braneworld and the brane tension $σ$.
The scenario of brane inflation without using the conventional slow-roll approximations has been investigated. Based on the mechanism of generating the curvature perturbations at the end of inflation, a new brane inflation paradigm was developed. The conditions for making a sufficiently large enough number of e-foldings and for generating the curvature perturbations without producing dangerous relics were also examined. Benefits of our scenario are subsequently discussed in detail.
We consider DBI inflation with a quadratic potential and the effect of trapped branes on the inflationary fluctuations. When going through a trapped brane the effective potential of the inflaton receives a contribution whose effect is to induce a jump in the power spectrum of the inflaton perturbations. This feature appears in the power spectrum at a scale corresponding to the size of the sound horizon when the two branes cross each other.
It was pointed out that brane-anti-brane inflation without warped geometry is not viable due to compactification effects (in the simplified scenario where the inflaton is decoupled from the compactification moduli). We show that the inflationary scenario with branes at a small angle in this simplified scenario remains viable. We also point out that brane-anti-brane inflation may still be viable under some special conditions. We also discuss a way to treat potentials in compact spaces that should be useful in the analysis of more realistic brane inflationary scenarios.
We propose a new scenario of Affleck-dine baryogenesis in the context of theories with large extra dimensions. In this paper we consider baryogenesis after thermal brane inflation and show how our mechanism works. We specifically consider models in which supersymmetry is broken at the distant brane.
We calculate the interaction potential between D5 and anti-D5 branes wrapping distant but homologous 2-cycles. The interaction potential is logarithmic in the separation radius and does not decouple at infinity. We show that logarithmic backreaction is generic for 5-branes wrapping distant but homologous 2-cycles, and we argue that this destabilises models of axion monodromy inflation involving NS5 brane-antibrane pairs in separate warped throats towards an uncontrolled region.
In light of the recent Planck 2015 results for the measurement of the CMB anisotropy, we study simple inflationary models in the context of the Gauss-Bonnet brane-world cosmology. The brane-world cosmological effect modifies the power spectra of scalar and tensor perturbations generated by inflation and causes a dramatic change for the inflationary predictions of the spectral index ($n_s$) and the tensor-to-scalar ratio ($r$) from those obtained in the standard cosmology. In particular, the power spectrum of tensor perturbation is suppressed due to the Gauss-Bonnet brane-world cosmological eff…
In this paper we show that certain types of cosmological brane configurations may induce topological inflation. In generic models for topological inflation, there is a strict bound for the potential of the inflaton field. Naively, it seems that these constraints can be removed if inflation starts with a hybrid potential. However, it is difficult to combine topological inflation and hybrid inflation, because of the difference in their initial conditions. In this paper, we show some examples in which a novel type of topological inflation is realized with the unconventional hybrid potential.
We study the dilaton stabilization in the D-brane world in which a D-brane constitutes our universe. The dilaton can be stabilized due to the interplay between the D-brane tension and the negative scalar curvature of extra dimensions. Cosmic evolution of the dilaton is investigated with the obtained dilaton potential and it is found that inflation can be realized before the settlement of the dilaton.
We present a scenario where brane inflation arises more generically. We start with D3 and anti-D3-branes at the infrared ends of two different throats. This setup is a natural consequence of the assumption that in the beginning we have a multi-throat string compactification with many wandering anti-D3-branes. A long period of inflation is triggered when D3-branes slowly exit the highly warped infrared region, under a potential generically arising from the moduli stabilization. In this scenario, the usual slow-roll conditions are not required, and a large warping is allowed to incorporate the R…
I give a brief overview of brane-antibrane inflation, with emphasis on the problems of tuning to get a flat potential in the KKLMMT framework, and recent work on the nature of superpotential corrections in that model.
In conventional scenario of thermal inflation, the requirement that the reheating temperature must be larger than the temperature of the nucleosynthesis puts a lower bound on the mass of the inflaton field. At the same time, the mass of the inflaton field and the height of the potential during thermal inflation are intimately related. With these conditions, the conventional models for thermal inflation are quite restricted. Naively, one can expect that the above constraints may be removed if thermal inflation is realized within the setups for hybrid inflation. In this paper we show why it is d…
I describe a dynamical mechanism for solving the fine-tuning problem of brane-antibrane inflation. By inflating with stacks of branes and antibranes, the branes can naturally be trapped at a metastable minimum of the potential. As branes tunnel out of this minimum, the shape of the potential changes to make the minimum shallower. Eventually the minimum disappears and the remaining branes roll slowly because the potential is nearly flat. I show that even with a small number of branes, there is a good chance of getting enough inflation. Running of the spectral index is correlated with the tilt i…
We consider the brane gas picture of the early universe. At later stages, when there are no winding modes and the background is free to expand, we show that a moving 3-brane, which we identify with our universe, can inflate even though it is radiation-dominated. The crucial ingredients for successful inflation are the coupling to the dilaton and the equation of state of the bulk. If we suppose the brane initially forms in a collision of higher-dimensional branes, then the spectrum of primordial density fluctuations naturally has a thermal origin.
In the context of an inflationary Randall-Sundrum Type II braneworld (RS2) we calculate spectral indices and amplitudes of cosmological scalar and tensor perturbations, up to second order in slow-roll parameters. Under very simple assumptions, extrapolating next-order formulae from first-order calculations in the case of a de Sitter brane, we see that the degeneracy between standard and braneworld lowest-order consistency equations is broken, thus giving different signatures of early-universe inflationary expansion. Using the latest results from WMAP for estimates of cosmological observables, …
We discuss a calculable version of brane inflation, in which a set of parallel D-brane and anti-D-brane worlds, initially displaced in extra dimension, slowly attract each other. In the effective four-dimensional theory this slow motion of branes translates into a slow-roll of a scalar field (proportional to their separation) with a flat potential that drives inflation. The number of possible e-foldings is severely constrained. The scalar spectral index is found to be 0.97, while the effective compactification scale is of order $10^{12}$ GeV. Reheating of the Universe is provided by collision …
We show how the motion through the extra dimensions of a gas of branes and antibranes can, under certain circumstances, produce an era of inflation as seen by observers trapped on a 3-brane, with the inflaton being the inter-brane separation. Although most of our discussion refers to arbitrary p-branes, when we need to be specific we assume that they are D-branes of Type II or Type I string theory. For realistic brane couplings, such as those arising in string theory, the inter-brane potentials are too steep to inflate the universe for acceptably long times. However, for special regions of the…
We investigate the generation of primordial gravitational waves from inflation in braneworld cosmologies with extra dimensions. Advantage of using primordial gravitational waves to probe extra dimensions is that their theory depends only on the geometry, not on the microscopic models of inflation and stabilization. D(D-3)/2 degrees of freedom of the free bulk gravitons are projected onto the 3d brane as tensor, vector and scalar modes. We found the following no-go results for a generic geometry of a five (or D) dimensional warped metric with four dimensional de Sitter (inflationary) slices and…
We study the stability of branonium. Contrary to the previous arguments, global structure of branonium is not stable against spatial fluctuations. We show that branonium decays into local objects, which looks like Q-balls in the effective action. Therefore, we consider the idea of brane Q-balls in this paper. Brane Q-balls are produced as the remnants of unstable branonium. Although the brane Q-balls are conceptually different from the conventional Q-balls, they look similar in some parametric regions. We show how to distinguish brane Q-balls from conventional Q-balls.
We reanalyze brane inflation with brane-brane interactions at an angle, which include the special case of brane-anti-brane interaction. If nature is described by a stringy realization of the brane world scenario today (with arbitrary compactification), and if some additional branes were present in the early universe, we find that an inflationary epoch is generically quite natural, ending with a big bang when the last branes collide. In an interesting brane inflationary scenario suggested by generic string model-building, we use the density perturbation observed in the cosmic microwave backgrou…
Non-supersymmetric brane world scenarios in string theory display perturbative instabilities that usually involve run-away potentials for scalar moduli fields. We investigate in the framework of intersecting brane worlds whether the leading order scalar potential for the closed string moduli allows to satisfy the slow-rolling conditions required for applications in inflationary cosmology. Adopting a particular choice of basis in field space and assuming mechanisms to stabilize some of the scalars, we find that slow-rolling conditions can be met very generically. In intersecting brane worlds in…
We present a general set-up for inflation in string theory where the inflaton field corresponds to Wilson lines in compact space in the presence of magnetic fluxes. T-dualities and limits on the value of the magnetic fluxes relate this system to the standard D-brane inflation scenarios, such as brane-antibrane inflation, D3/D7 brane inflation and different configurations of branes at angles. This can then be seen as a generalised approach to inflation from open string modes. Inflation ends when the Wilson lines achieve a critical value and an open string mode becomes tachyonic. Then hybrid-lik…
We consider hybrid inflation in the braneworld scenario. In particular, we consider inflation in global supersymmetry with the D-terms in the scalar potential for the inflaton field to be the dominant ones (D-term inflation). We find that D-term dominated inflation can naturally accomodate all requirements of the successful hybrid inflationary model also in the framework of D-brane cosmology with global supersymmetry. The reheating temperature after inflation can be high enough ($\sim 10^{10} GeV$) for successful thermal leptogenesis.
We show that, in constructions with additional intersecting D-branes, brane-antibrane inflation may naturally occur in a warm regime, such that strong dissipative effects damp the inflaton's motion, greatly alleviating the associated eta-problem. We illustrate this for D3-antiD3 inflation in flat space with additional flavor D7-branes, where for both a Coulomb-like or a quadratic hybrid potential a sufficient number of e-folds may be obtained for perturbative couplings and O(10-10^4) branes. This is in clear contrast with the corresponding cold scenarios, thus setting the stage for more realis…
We obtain brane inflation in configurations with Dp and D(p-2) branes which are far apart and almost perpendicular to each other. Chaotic brane inflation occurs when the branes can only rotate with the inflaton given by the angle between the branes. When the branes can also move hybrid brane inflation occurs where the inflaton is the distance between the branes and the trigger field is related to the angle. In both models we find a spectral index very close to one. Both types of inflation require $M_s \sim 10^{16-17} GeV$ with one large radius of size $1/R \sim 10^{12-15} GeV$.
The inflationary attractor properties of the canonical scalar field and Born-Infeld field are investigated in the Randall-Sundrum II scenario with a Gauss-Bonnet term in the bulk action. We find that the inflationary attractor property will always hold for both the canonical and Born-Infeld fields for any allowed non-negative Gauss-Bonnet coupling. We also briefly discuss the possibility of explaining the suppressed lower multiples and running scalar spectral index simultaneously in the scenario of Gauss-Bonnet brane inflation.
An impressed feature of inflation on warped Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) brane is that the inflationary phase exits spontaneously for a scalar inflaton field with exponential potential, which presents a graceful exit mechanism for the inflation. But its reheating mechanism leaves open. We investigate the curvaton reheating in inflation on warped DGP brane model. The reheating may occur in effctively 5 dimensional or 4 dimensional stage. We study the permitted parameter space of the curvaton field in detail. We demonstrate how the inflation model of the warped DGP brane is improved by the curv…
We demonstrate that the initial conditions for inflation are met when D5 and \bar{D}5 branes annihilate. This scenario uses Sen's conjecture that a co-dimension two vortex forms on the worldvolume of the annihilated 5-brane system. Analogous to a "Big Bang", when the five branes annihilate, a vortex localized on a 3-brane forms and its false vacuum energy generates an inflationy space-time. We also provide a natural mechanism for ending inflation via the motion of the vortex in the bulk due to its extrinsic curvature. We also suggest a consistent way to end inflation and localize matter on our…
String theory gives rise to various mechanisms to generate primordial inflation, of which ``brane inflation'' is one of the most widely considered. In this scenario, inflation takes place while two branes are approaching each other, and the modulus field representing the separation between the branes plays the role of the inflaton field. We study the phase space of initial conditions which can lead to a sufficiently long period of cosmological inflation, and find that taking into account the possibility of nonvanishing initial momentum can significantly change the degree of fine tuning of the …
In brane world scenarios inflationary vacuum energy may escape into the higher dimensional bulk leaving behind a dark radiation effect on the brane. The paper analyses the damping of an inflaton by massless bulk scalar radiation and the production of dark radiation in a Randall-Sundrum type of model.
We study F-term inflation in M-theory with and without five-brane moduli fields. We show the slow rolling condition is not satisfied in M-theory without five-brane moduli fields, but it can be satisfied in the case with non-vanishing F-terms of five-brane moduli fields.
Brane inflation can provide a promissing framework for solving the fine-tuning problem in standard inflationary models. The aim of this paper is to illustrate the mechanism by which this can be achieved. By considering the supersymmetric two-stage inflation model it is shown that the initial fine-tuning of the coupling parameter can be considerably relaxed. SubPlanckian values of the inflaton during inflation can also be obtained.
Inflationary cosmology is developed in the second Randall-Sundrum braneworld scenario, where the accelerated expansion arises through potentials that are too steep to drive inflation in conventional cosmology. A relationship between the scalar and tensor perturbation spectra is derived that is independent of both the inflaton potential and the brane tension. It is found that a single field with an inverse power law potential can act as both the inflaton and the quintessence field for suitable values of the brane tension.
Towards the end of the brane inflationary epoch in the brane world, cosmic strings (but not texture, domain walls or monopoles) are copiously produced during brane collision. These cosmic strings are D$p$-branes with $(p-1)$ dimensions compactified. We elaborate on this prediction of the superstring theory description of the brane world. Using the data on the temperature anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background, we estimate the cosmic string tension $μ$ to be around $G μ\simeq 10^{-7}$. This in turn implies that the anisotropy in the cosmic microwave background comes mostly from inflation…
We investigate a new way of realizing a period of cosmological inflation in the context of brane gas cosmology. It is argued that a gas of co-dimension one branes, out of thermal equilibrium with the rest of the matter, has an equation of state which can - after stabilization of the dilaton - lead to power-law inflation of the bulk. The most promising implementation of this mechanism might be in Type IIB superstring theory, with inflation of the three large spatial dimensions triggered by ``stabilized embedded 2-branes''. Possible applications and problems with this proposal are discussed.
The brane cosmology has invoked new challenges to the usual Big Bang cosmology. In this paper we present a brief account on thermal history of the post-inflationary brane cosmology. We have realized that it is not obvious that the post-inflationary brane cosmology would always deviate from the standard Big Bang cosmology. However, if it deviates some stringent conditions on the brane tension are to be satisfied. In this regard we study various implications on gravitino production and its abundance. We discuss Affleck-Dine mechanism for baryogenesis and make some comments on moduli and dilaton …
We place observational likelihood constraints on braneworld and non-commutative inflation for a number of inflaton potentials, using Planck, WMAP polarization and BAO data. Both braneworld and non-commutative scenarios of the kind considered here are limited by the most recent data even more severely than standard general-relativity models. At more than 95 % confidence level, the monomial potential $V(ϕ) \propto ϕ^p$ is ruled out for $p \geq 2$ in the Randall--Sundrum (RS) braneworld cosmology and, for $p>0$, also in the high-curvature limit of the Gauss--Bonnet (GB) braneworld and in the infr…
We propose a model of inflation in the framework of brane cosmology driven by background supergravity. Starting from bulk supergravity we construct the inflaton potential on the brane and employ it to investigate for the consequences to inflationary paradigm. To this end, we derive the expressions for the important parameters in brane inflation, which are somewhat different from their counterparts in standard cosmology, using the one loop radiative corrected potential. We further estimate the observable parameters and find them to fit well with recent observational data by confronting with WMA…
We present a novel inflationary scenario in theories with low scale (TeV) quantum gravity, in which the standard model particles are localized on the branes whereas gravity propagates in the bulk of large extra dimensions. This inflationary scenario is natural in the brane world picture. In the lowest energy state, a number of branes sit on top of each other (or at an orientifold plane), so the vacuum energy cancels out. In the cosmological setting, some of the branes "start out" relatively displaced in the extra dimensions and the resulting vacuum energy triggers the exponential growth of the…
We review a viable alternative scenario of the inflationary universe in the context of the Randall-Sundrum (RS) braneworld. In this scenario, the dynamics of a 5-dimensional scalar field, which we call a bulk scalar field, plays the central role. Focusing on the second (single-brane) RS model, we discuss braneworld inflation driven by a bulk scalar field without introducing an inflaton on the brane. As a toy model, for the bulk scalar field, we consider a minimally coupled massive scalar field in the 5-dimensional spacetime, and look for a perturbative solution of the field equation in the ant…
Reheating or entropy production on the three-brane from a decaying bulk scalar field is studied in the brane-world picture of the Universe. It is shown that a significant amount of dark radiation is produced in this process unless only the specific modes are excited, so that subsequent entropy production within the brane is required in general before primordial nucleosynthesis.
The inflaton potential in four-dimensional theory is rather arbitrary, and fine-tuning is required generically. By contrast, inflation in the brane world scenario has the interesting feature that the inflaton potential is motivated from higher dimensional gravity, or more generally, from bulk modes or string theory. We emphasize this feature with examples. We also consider the impact on the spectrum of density perturbation from a velocity-dependent potential between branes in the brane inflationary scenario. It is likely that such a potential can have an observable effect on the ratio of tenso…
Quintessential inflation describes a scenario in which both inflation and dark energy (quintessence) are described by the same scalar field. In conventional braneworld models of quintessential inflation gravitational particle production is used to reheat the universe. This reheating mechanism is very inefficient and results in an excessive production of gravity waves which violate nucleosynthesis constraints and invalidate the model. We describe a new method of realizing quintessential inflation on the brane in which inflation is followed by `instant preheating' (Felder, Kofman & Linde 1999). …
We propose a scenario for inflation based upon the braneworld picture, in which high-energy corrections to the Friedmann equation permit inflation to take place with potentials ordinarily too steep to sustain it. Inflation ends when the braneworld corrections begin to lose their dominance. Reheating may naturally be brought about via gravitational particle production, rather than the usual inflaton decay mechanism; the reheat temperature may be low enough to satisfy the gravitino bound and the Universe becomes radiation dominated early enough for nucleosynthesis. We illustrate the idea by cons…
Brane inflationary universe model in the context of a Chaplygin gas equation of state is studied. General conditions for this model to be realizable are discussed. In the high-energy limit and by using a chaotic potential we describe in great details the characteristic of this model. The parameters of the model are restricted by using recent astronomical observations.
We discuss sneutrino inflation in the brane-world scenario. We work in the Randall-Sundrum type II brane-world, generalized with the introduction of the Gauss-Bonnet term, a correction to the effective action in string theories. We find that a viable inflationary model is obtained with a reheating temperature appropriate to lead to the right baryon asymmetry and render the gravitino safe for cosmology. In specific realizations we satisfy all the observational constaints without the unnaturally small Yukawa couplings required in other related approaches.
We study reheating in a recently proposed brane "monodromy inflation" model in which the inflaton is the position of a D4 brane on a "twisted torus". Specifically, we study the repeated collisions between the D4 brane and a D6 brane (on which the Standard Model fields are assumed to be localized) at a fixed position along the monodromy direction as the D4 brane rolls down its potential. We find that there is no trapping of the rolling D4 brane until it reaches the bottom of its potential, and that reheating is entirely described by the last brane encounter. Previous collisions have negligible …
We analyze the slow-roll inflation mechanism in brane framework with a real Higgs field confined on the brane. We prove that inflation occur for field value below the 4-dimensional Planck scale and produce cosmological perturbations in accordance with observations. Through the amplitude of the scalar perturbation produced during inflation we could determine the self-coupling constant of the Higgs field which is not predicted by the fundamental theories. Also it was found the solutions to the motion equations on the brane.
