Suppose $E$ is fully symmetric Banach function space on $(0,1)$ or $(0,\infty)$ or a fully symmetric Banach sequence space. We give necessary and sufficient conditions on $f\in E$ so that its orbit $Ω(f)$ is the closed convex hull of its extreme points. We also give an application to symmetrically normed ideals of compact operators on a Hilbert space.

Orbits in symmetric spaces

We characterize those elements in a fully symmetric spaces on the interval $(0,1)$ or on the semi-axis $(0,\infty)$ whose orbits are the norm-closed convex hull of their extreme points. Our results extend and complement earlier work on the same theme by Braverman and Mekler.

The smoothness of orbital measures on noncompact symmetric spaces

Let $G/K$ be an irreducible symmetric space where $G$ is a non-compact, connected Lie group and $K$ is a compact, connected subgroup. We use decay properties of the spherical functions to show that the convolution product of any $r=r(G/K)$ continuous orbital measures has its density function in $% L^{2}(G)$ and hence is an absolutely continuous measure with respect to Haar measure. The number $r$ is approximately the rank of $G/K$. Orbital integrals on Lorentzian symmetric spaces

In this paper, we address the problem of determining a function in terms of its orbital integrals on Lorentzian symmetric spaces. It has been solved by S. Helgason for even-dimensional isotropic Lorentzian symmetric spaces via a limit formula involving the Laplace-Beltrami operator. The result has been extended by J. Orloff for rank-one semisimple pseudo-Riemannian symmetric spaces giving the keys to treat the odd-dimensional isotropic Lorentzian symmetric spaces. Toeplitz $C^*$-Algebras on Boundary Orbits of Symmetric Domains

We study Toeplitz operators on Hilbert spaces of holomorphic functions on symmetric domains, and more generally on certain algebraic subvarieties, determined by integration over boundary orbits of the underlying domain. The main result classifies the irreducible representations of the Toeplitz $C^*$-algebra generated by Toeplitz operators with continuous symbol. This relies on the limit behavior of "hypergeometric" measures under certain peaking functions.

A dihedral Bott-type iteration formula and stability of symmetric periodic orbits

In 1956, Bott in his celebrated paper on closed geodesics and Sturm intersection theory, proved an Index Iteration Formula for closed geodesics on Riemannian manifolds.
