We show that the nucleon spectrum in a hard-wall AdS/QCD model can be improved by use of a relatively large IR cutoff. All of the spin-1/2 nucleon masses listed in PDG can be fit quite well within 11%. The average error is remarkably only 4.66%.
Using the light front wave functions for the nucleons in a quark model in AdS/QCD, we calculate the nucleon electromagnetic form factors. The flavor decompositions of the nucleon form factors are calculated from the GPDs in this model. We show that the nucleon form factors and their flavor decompositions calculated in AdS/QCD are in agreement with experimental data.
We present a study of electroexcitation of nucleon resonances with higher spins, in a soft-wall AdS/QCD model, comparing our results with existing data from the CLAS Collaboration at JLab, from MAMI, and other experiments.
We study further the soft-wall AdS/QCD model with a cubic potential for the bulk scalar. We analyze the spectra of pseudoscalar, scalar, vector and axial-vector mesons. We also study the spin-1/2 nucleon spectrum and the pion-nucleon coupling. All of them have a good agreement with the experimental data.
We present a comparative study of nucleon structure such as electromagnetic form factors, transverse charge and magnetization densities in three different models within AdS/QCD framework.
In this manuscript, a unified approach to hadron physics from holographic point of view is described. After introduction of a general setup for meson-nucleon system based on the bottom-up approach of QCD (AdS/QCD), as an illustration, we specifically examine meson-nucleon couplings. This is an example of the notion we call "holographic unification" in hadron physics.
By using a new parametrization of the dilaton field and including a cubic term in the bulk scalar potential, we realize linear confinement in both meson and nucleon sectors within the framework of soft-wall AdS/QCD. At the same time this model also correctly incorporate chiral symmetry breaking. We compare our resulting mass spectra with experimental data and find good agreement between them.
The purpose of this paper is to further study the soft-wall AdS/QCD model with constrained IR background. By including a quartic bulk scalar potential we study various meson and nucleon spectra. This model naturally realizes the asymptotical linearity of these mass spectra simultaneously, together with correctly pattern of explicit and dynamical chiral symmetry breaking. The agreement between the theoretical calculations and the experimental data is good.
We present an improved study of the electromagnetic form factors of the nucleon and of the Roper-nucleon transition using an extended version of the effective action of soft-wall AdS/QCD. We include novel contribution from additional non-minimal terms, which do not renormalize the charge and do not change the normalization of the corresponding form factors, but the inclusion of these terms results in an important contribution to the momentum dependence of the form factors and helicity amplitudes.
We present a study of the nucleon electromagnetic form factors and of the Roper-nucleon transition at finite small temperature $T$, using an extended version of a soft-wall AdS/QCD approach developed by us previously. In the action we introduce the effective potential, which has quadratic dependence on the holographic coordinate $z$ and depends on both the gluon and quark condensates. Choosing the AdS geometry we restrict ourselves to the AdS Poincaré metric, because the contribution of the AdS-Schwarzschild geometry starts at next-to-leading order ${\cal O}(T^4)$. Hence, one can neglect the t…
We study the axial-vector form factor of the nucleons at constant and homogenous isospin chemical potential using holographic QCD. Nucleon mass splitting in such isospin medium is taken into account. According to AdS/CFT correspondence, the critical value of the isospin chemical potential μ_I equals to UV- boundary value of the time component of the bulk gauge field. We calculate the axial-vector form factor of the proton and neutron in such background in the framework of the hard-wall model and plot the form factors for the isospin chemical potential critical value μ_I=m_π.
We present a phenomenological unpolarized Parton Distribution Functions for diquarks based on a soft-wall light front AdS/QCD quark-diquark nucleon model. From a probed model consistent with the Drewll-Yan-West relation and quark counting rule, we have performed a fit of some free parameters using known phenomenological quark PDF data. The model considers the entire set of possible diquarks within the nucleon valence, in the present work we focus on the spin-0 $ud_0$, spin-1 $ud_1$ and spin-1 $uu_1$ diquarks into the valence of protons. The diquark PDFs obtained are able to used in proton-prot…
We describe the electroproduction of the N(1440) Roper resonance in soft-wall AdS/QCD. The Roper resonance is identified as the first radially excited state of the nucleon, where higher-Fock states in addition to the three-quark component are included. The main conclusion is that the leading 3q component plays the dominant role in the description of electroproduction properties of this resonance: form factors, helicity amplitudes and charge densities. The obtained results are in good agreement with the recent results of the CLAS Collaboration at JLab.
Holographic soft-wall model is successful in the phenomenology of hadrons. Here with the use of generalized parton distributions (GPDs) obtained from AdS/QCD, perturbative effects are entered into the formalism. Perturbations are incorporated in the formalism through the evolution of GPDs according to the DGLAP like equations. Evolved proton GPDs are compared with a phenomenological model to show that we can get good improvements of the holographic model. It seems that combining the holographic soft-wall model with perturbative effects to some extent, gives the correct physics of GPDs.
The electromagnetic form factors of nucleons are calculated using an AdS/QCD model by considering a Dirac field coupled to a vector field in the 5-dimensional AdS space. We also calculate a gravitational or energy-momentum form factor by perturbing the metric from the static AdS solution. We consider both the hard-wall model where the AdS geometry is cutoff at z_0 and the soft-wall model where the geometry is smoothly cut off by a background dilaton field.
The Roper state is described in the framework of the chiral chromodielectric model as a single quark excitation in self-consistent meson potentials. The interplay between quark and meson excitations is discussed and we emphasise the role of non-quark degrees of freedom in the electroproduction of nucleon excitations.
We present a detailed analysis of nucleon electromagnetic and axial form factors in a holographic soft-wall model. This approach is based on an action which describes hadrons with broken conformal invariance and incorporates confinement through the presence of a background dilaton field. For Nc=3 we describe the nucleon structure in a superposition of a three valence quark state with high Fock states including an adjustable number of partons (quarks, antiquarks and gluons) via studying the dynamics of 5D fermion fields of different scaling dimension in anti-de Sitter (ADS) space. According to t…
We study the helicity-independent generalized parton distributions of nucleons in the zero skewness case, based on a particular light-front quark model derived in a soft-wall AdS/QCD approach.
We investigate the nucleon to $Δ$ transition form factors in a soft-wall AdS/QCD model and a light-front quark-diquark model inspired by AdS/QCD. From the transition form factors we evaluate the transition charge densities which influences the nucleon to $Δ$ excitation. Here we consider both the unpolarized and the transversely polarized cases. The AdS/QCD predictions are compared with available experimental data and with the results of the global parameterization, MAID2007.
A convergence of the valence quark self-energies in the 1S, 2S, $1P_{1/2}$, $1P_{3/2}$ orbits induced by pion and gluon field configurations, is shown in the frame of a relativistic chiral quark model. It is shown that in order to reach a convergence, one needs to include contribution of the intermediate quark and anti-quark states with the total momentum up to $j=25/2$. It is argued that a restriction to the lowest mode when estimating the self-energy is not good approximation.
We study the phenomenon of spontaneous breaking of rotational symmetry (SBRS) in the rotating solutions of two types of baby Skyrme models. In the first the domain is a two-sphere and in the other, the Skyrmions are confined to the interior of a unit disk. Numerical full-field results show that when the angular momentum of the Skyrmions increases above a certain critical value, the rotational symmetry of the solutions is broken and the minimal energy configurations become less symmetric. We propose a possible mechanism as to why SBRS is present in the rotating solutions of these models, while …
The axial-vector form factor of the nucleons is considered in the framework of hard-wall model of holographic QCD. A new interaction term between the bulk gauge and matter fields was included into the interaction Lagrangian. We obtain the axial-vector form factor of nucleons in the boundary QCD from the bulk action using AdS/CFT correspondence. The momentum square dependence of the axial-vector form factor is analysed numerically.
The effects of the spin-orbit and the tensor parts of the instanton-induced interaction on the excited nonstrange baryons up to $N$=2 and on the two-nucleon systems are investigated. The spin-orbit force from the instanton-induced interaction cancels most of that from the one-gluon exchange in the excited baryons while the spin-orbit force in the nucleon systems remains strong after the inclusion of the instanton-induced interaction. The model including the spin-orbit and the tensor terms of the instanton-induced interaction as well as the one-gluon exchange is found to reproduce successfully …
In the framework of the soft-wall model of AdS/QCD we calculated the $ρ$ meson nucleon coupling constant. Bulk-to boundary propagators for the free vector and spinor fields are presented, whose boundary values correspond to $ρ$ meson and to the nucleon respectively. The interaction Lagrangian between these fields is written in the bulk of AdS space and includes magnetic type interactions as well. Using the AdS/CFT correspondence from the bulk interaction action we derived the $g_{ρNN}$ coupling constant in the boundary QCD. We found that the soft-wall model result for the $g_{ρNN}$ constant is…
We present an overview of a research program for the excited nucleon states in Excited Baryon Analysis Center (EBAC) at Jefferson Lab. Current status of our analysis of the meson production reactions based on the unitary dynamical coupled-channels model is summarized, and the N* pole positions extracted from the constructed scattering amplitudes are presented. Our plans for future developments are also discussed.
We study the temperature dependence of the $a_1$ meson-nucleon coupling constant in the framework of the soft-wall AdS/QCD model with thermal dilaton field. Profile functions for the axial-vector and fermion fields in the AdS-Schwarzschild metric are presented. It is constructed an interaction Lagrangian for the fermion-axial-vector-thermal dilaton fields system in the bulk of space-time. From this Lagrangian integral representation for the $g_{a_1NN}$ coupling constant is derived. The temperature dependence of this coupling constant is numerically analyzed.
Techniques to compute hadron properties from lattice QCD rely upon the limit of long time separation. For baryons, the signal-to-noise problem often restricts one to time separations that are not ideally long, and for which couplings to excited states can obstruct the isolation of ground-state baryon properties. We consider excited-state contamination in nucleon two- and three-point functions. Using chiral perturbation theory, we determine couplings to pion-nucleon and pion-delta excited states. In two-point functions, these contributions are small, in accordance with general properties of the…
We compare axial charges of excited nucleons, as predicted by the chiral symmetry restoration picture, with the traditional, moderately successful for the ground-state baryons SU(6) symmetry. The axial charges of excited nucleons can (and will) be measured in lattice QCD simulations, and comparison of the lattice results with the two different symmetry schemes will give an insight on the origins of the excited hadron masses as well as on interrelations of chiral symmetry and confinement.
Recent advances in the study of excited nucleons are discussed. Much of the progress has been achieved due to the availability of high precision meson production data in the photoproduction and electroproduction sectors, the development of multi-channel partial wave analysis techniques, and advances in Lattice QCD with predictions of the full excitation spectrum.
We discuss the status of current dynamical lattice QCD simulations in connection to the emerging results on the strange and charmed baryon spectrum, excited states of the nucleon and the investigation of the structure of scalar mesons.
The typical AdS/QCD models deal with the large-N_c limit of QCD, as a consequence the meson spectrum consists of the infinite number of states that is far from the real situation. Basing on introduction of anharmonic corrections to the holographic potential, the corrections whose existence has been recently advocated, we construct a class of bottom-up holographic models describing arbitrary finite number of states in the sector of light mesons. Within the proposed approach, the spectrum of masses square has the following properties: It is linear, $m_n^2\sim n$, at not very large n, nonlinear a…
We present a study of the flavor form factors in the framework of a hard-wall AdS/QCD model and compare with the available experimental data. We obtain the flavor form factors by decomposing the Dirac and Pauli form factors for the nucleons using the charge and isospin symmetry. Further, we present a detailed study of the flavor structures of the charge and anomalous magnetization densities in the transverse plane. Both the unpolarized and the transversely polarized nucleons are considered here. We compare the AdS/QCD results with two standard phenomenological parametrizations.
Families of $J^P=1/2+$ nucleons (N(939), N(1440), N(1710), N(1880), N(2100), N(2300)) and $J^P=3/2-$ nucleons (N(1520), N(1700), N(1875) and N(2120)) are scrutinized from the point of view of the configurational entropy (CE). The mass spectra of higher $J^P$ resonances in each one of these families are then obtained when configurational-entropic Regge trajectories, that relate the CE of nucleon families to both their $J^P$ spin and also to their experimental mass spectra, are interpolated. The mass spectra of the next generation of nucleon resonances are then compared to already established ba…
We investigate the dependence of the $ρ$ meson-nucleon coupling constant on the temperature of the medium using the soft-wall model of AdS/QCD. The finite temperature profile functions for the vector and fermion fields are applied to the model having a thermal dilaton field. The interaction Lagrangian in the bulk between these fields is written as in zero temperature case and includes minimal- and magnetic-type interactions. The temperature dependence of the $g_{ρNN}(T)$ coupling constant and its terms are plotted. We observe that the coupling constant and its separate terms become zero at the…
We present an alternative interpretation for the dynamical origin of the P11 nucleon resonances, which results from the dynamical coupled-channels analysis at Excited Baryon Analysis Center of Jefferson Lab. The results indicate the crucial role of the multichannel reaction dynamics in determining the N^* spectrum.
We study the pion-nucleon system in s-wave in the framework of lattice QCD in order to gain new information on the nucleon excited states. We perform simulations for $n_f =2$ mass degenerate light quarks at a pion mass of 266 MeV. The results show that including the two-particle states drastically changes the energy levels. The variational analysis and the distillation approach play an important role in the extraction of the energy levels. The phase shift analysis allows to extract information on the resonance nature of the observed states.
We present a numerical analysis of helicity independent nucleon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) using the known formalism based on inclusion of higher Fock states in the soft-wall approach of the anti-de Sitter/QCD model. We calculate the momentum space GPDs by matching the electromagnetic form factors in the AdS model to the sum rules in QCD. We investigate their Mellin moments, transverse impact parameter GPDs, transverse mean square radius, and transverse width. We further extend this work to investigate the charge and anomalous magnetization densities for both unpolarized and trans…
We present results of our numerical calculation of the mass spectrum for isospin one-half and spin one-half non-strange baryons, i.e. the ground and excited states of the nucleon, in quenched lattice QCD. We use a new lattice discretization scheme for fermions, domain wall fermions, which possess almost exact chiral symmetry at non-zero lattice spacing. We make a systematic investigation of the negative-parity $N^*$ spectrum by using two distinct interpolating operators at $β=6/g^2=6.0$ on a $16^3 \times 32 \times 16$ lattice. The mass estimates extracted from the two operators are consistent …
We study the ground and first excited states of nucleons in a chiral quark-diquark model. We include two quark-diquark channels of the scalar-isoscalar and axial-vector-isovector types for the nucleon states. The diquark correlation violating the spin-flavor SU(4)$_{SF}$ symmetry allows to treat the two quark-diquark channels independently. Hence the two states appear as the superpositions of the two quark-diquark channels; one is the nucleon and the other is a state which does not appear in the SU(4)$_{SF}$ quark models. With a reasonable choice of model parameters, the mass of the excited st…
We investigate the excited states of the nucleon using $N_f=2$ twisted mass gauge configurations with pion masses in the range of about 270 MeV to 450 MeV and one ensemble of $N_f=2$ Clover fermions at almost physical pion mass. We use two different sets of variational bases and study the resulting generalized eigenvalue problem. We present results for the two lowest positive and negative parity states.
Spectral functions of the nucleon and its negative parity excited state in nuclear matter are studied using QCD sum rules and the maximum entropy method (MEM). It is found that in-medium modifications of the spectral functions are attributed mainly to density dependencies of the $\langle \bar{q}q \rangle $ and $\langle q^{\dagger}q \rangle $ condensates. The MEM reproduces the lowest-energy peaks of both the positive and negative parity nucleon states at finite density up to $ρ\sim ρ_N$ (normal nuclear matter density). As the density grows, the residue of the nucleon ground state decreases gra…
We propose a unified approach to study meson, nucleon and $Δ$-baryon properties at zero and finite temperatures in the context of hard-wall AdS/QCD model. We first combine some previous works dealing with mesons and baryons separately, and introduce a new parameter~$ξ$ so that the model could give a universal description of spectrum and couplings of both sectors in a self-consistent way. All observables calculated numerically show reasonable agreement with experimental data. We then study these observables at nonzero temperature by modifying the AdS space-time into AdS-Schwartzchild space-time…
We construct a holographic model for baryons in the context of AdS/QCD and study the spin-1/2 nucleon spectra and its couplings to mesons, taking fully account of the effects from the chiral symmetry breaking. A pair of 5D spinors is introduced to represent both left and right chiralities. Our model contains two adjustable parameters, the infrared cutoff and the Yukawa coupling of bulk spinors to bulk scalars, corresponding to the order parameter of chiral symmetry. Taking the lowest-lying nucleon mass as an input, we calculate the mass spectrum of excited nucleons and the nucleon couplings to…
We study positive and negative parity nucleons on the lattice using the chirally improved lattice Dirac operator. Our analysis is based on a set of three operators chi_i with the nucleon quantum numbers but in different representations of the chiral group and with different diquark content. We use a variational method to separate ground state and excited states and determine the mixing coefficients for the optimal nucleon operators in terms of the chi_i. We clearly identify the negative parity resonances N(1535) and N(1650) and their masses agree well with experimental data. The mass of the ob…
We extend the "hard wall" gravity dual of QCD by including tensor fields b_{MN} that correspond to the QCD quark bilinear operators qbar sigma^{mu nu} q. These fields give rise to a spectrum of states which include the h_1 and b_1 mesons, as well as a tower of excited omega/rho meson states. We also identify the lowest-dimension term which leads to mixing between the new rho states and the usual tower of rho mesons when chiral symmetry is broken.
We study the mass spectra of excited baryons with the use of the lattice QCD simulations. We focus our attention on the problem of the level ordering between the positive-parity excited state N'(1440) (the Roper resonance) and the negative-parity excited state N^*(1535). Nearly perfect parity projection is accomplished by combining the quark propagators with periodic and anti-periodic boundary conditions in the temporal direction. Then we extract the spectral functions from the lattice data by utilizing the maximum entropy method. We observe that the masses of the N' and N^* states are close f…
Generalized Parton Distributions are investigated within a holographic approach where the string modes in the fifth dimension describe the nucleon in a bottom-up or AdS/QCD framework. The aim is to bring the AdS/QCD results in the realm of phenomenology in order to extract consequences and previsions. Two main aspects are studied: i) the role of the confining potential needed for breaking conformal invariance and introducing confinement (both: classic Soft-Wall and recent Infra-Red potentials are investigated); ii) the extension of the predicted GPDs to the entire range of off-forward kinemati…
We present analyses on nucleon structure functions at the small Bjorken-$x$ in the framework of holographic QCD. In this study, we improve the description of the target nucleon in the current setup of the holographic model by introducing a soft-wall AdS/QCD model, in which the AdS geometry is smoothly cut off at IR. Combining the improved Pomeron-nucleon coupling and the wave function of the 5D U(1) vector field with the BPST Pomeron exchange kernel, then we obtain the structure functions. Here we focus on the nonperturbative kinematical region, where $10^{-6} \leq x \leq 10^{-2}$ and $0.1 \le…
The gravitational form factors are related to the matrix elements of the energy-momentum tensor $T^{μν}$. Using the light front wave functions of the scalar quark-diquark model for nucleon predicted by the soft-wall AdS/QCD, we calculate the flavor dependent $A(Q^2)$, $B(Q^2)$ and $\bar{C}(Q^2)$ form factors. We also present all the matrix element of the energy-momentum tensor in a transversely polarized state. Further, we evaluate the matrix element of Pauli-Lubanski operator in this model and show that the intrinsic spin sum rule involves the form factor $\bar{C}$. The longitudinal momentum …
The electromagnetic polarizabilities of the nucleon are shown to be essentially composed of the nonresonant $α_p(E_{0+})=+3.2$, $α_n(E_{0+})=+4.1$,the $t$-channel $α^t_{p,n}=-β^t_{p,n}=+7.6$ and the resonant $β_{p,n}(P_{33}(1232))=+8.3$ contributions (in units of $10^{-4}$fm$^3$. The remaining deviations from the experimental data $Δα_p=1.2\pm 0.6$, $Δβ_p=1.2\mp 0.6$, Δα_n=0.8\pm 1.7$ and $Δβ_n=2.0\mp 1.8$ are contributed by a larger number of resonant and nonresonant processes with cancellations between the contributions. This result confirms that dominant contributions to the electric and ma…
By using the AdS/CFT correspondence, we investigate various form factors between nucleons and mesons in a nuclear medium. In order to describe a nuclear medium holographically, we take into account the thermal charged AdS geometry with an appropriate IR cutoff. After introducing an anomalous dimension as a free parameter, we investigate how the nucleon's mass is affected by the change of the anomalous dimension. Moreover, we study how the form factors of nucleons rely on the properties of the nuclear medium. We show that in a nuclear medium with different numbers of proton and neutron, the deg…
We investigate the application of the distillation smearing approach, and the use of the variational method with an extended basis of operators facilitated by this approach, on the calculation of the nucleon isovector charges $g_S^{u-d}$, $g_A^{u-d}$, and $g_T^{u-d}$. We find that the better sampling of the lattice enabled through the use of distillation yields a substantial reduction in the statistical uncertainty in comparison with the use of alternative smearing methods, and furthermore, appears to offer better control over the contribution of excited-states compared to use of a single, loc…
