We discuss on very general grounds possible lineshapes of composite particles with one unstable constituent. Expressions are derived in a coupled-channel formalism for constituents interacting in an S-wave with no assumption made on the width of one of them. We show how easy-to-use formulae, already existing in the literature, emerge for narrow constituents and identify the parameter that controls the regime of their applicability.

A simple picture of the constituent quark as a composite system of point-like partons is used to construct the unpolarized and polarized parton distributions by a convolution between constituent quark momentum distributions and constituent quark structure functions. We achieve good agreement with experiments in the unpolarized, as well as, in the polarized case. When our results are compared with similar calculations using non-composite constituent quarks, the accord with the experiments of the present scheme is impressive. We conclude that DIS data are consistent with a low energy scenario do…
Using a simple picture of the constituent quark as a composite system of point-like partons, we construct the parton distributions by a convolution between constituent quark momentum distributions and constituent quark structure functions. We evaluate the latter at a low hadronic scale with updated phenomenological information, and we build the momentum distributions using well-known quark models. The resulting parton distributions and structure functions are evolved to the experimental scale and good agreement with the available DIS data is achieved. When compared with a similar calculation u…
Composite dark matter (DM) comprised of electrically charged constituents can interact with the electromagnetic field via the particle's dipole moment. This interaction results in a dispersive optical index of refraction for the DM medium. We compute this refractive index for atomic dark matter and more strongly bound systems, modeled via a harmonic oscillator potential. The dispersive nature of the index will result in a time lag between high and low energy photons simultaneously emitted from a distant astrophysical observable. This time lag, due to matter dispersion, could confound potential…
A method is described for calculating the Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) of spin 1/2 hadrons made of composite constituents, in an Impulse Approximation framework. GPDs are obtained from the convolution between the light cone non-diagonal momentum distribution of the hadron and the GPD of the constituent. DIS structure functions and electromagnetic form factors are consistently recovered with the proposed formalism. Results are presented for the nucleon and for the $^3$He nucleus. For a nucleon assumed to be made of composite constituent quarks, the proposed scheme permits to study th…
Heavy stable charged particles can exist, hidden from us in bound atomlike states. Models with new stable charged leptons and quarks give rise to realistic composite dark matter scenarios. Significant or even dominant component of O-helium (atomlike system of He4 nucleus and heavy -2 charged particle) is inevitable feature of such scenarios. Possible O-helium explanation for the positron excess in the galactic bulge and for the controversy between the positive results of DAMA and negative results of other experiments is proposed.
Using a simple picture of the constituent quark as a composite system of point-like partons, we construct the polarized parton distributions by a convolution between constituent quark momentum distributions and constituent quark structure functions. Using unpolarized data to fix the parameters we achieve good agreement with the polarization experiments for the proton, while not so for the neutron. By relaxing our assumptions for the sea distributions, we define new quark functions for the polarized case, which reproduce well the proton data and are in better agreement with the neutron data. Wh…
Using a simple picture of the constituent quark as a composite system of point-like partons, we construct the polarized parton distributions by a convolution between constituent quark momentum distributions and constituent quark structure functions. We achieve good agreement with experiments in the unpolarized as well as in the polarized case, though a good description of the recent polarized neutron data requires the introduction of one more parameter. When our results are compared with similar calculations using non-composite constituent quarks, the accord with the experiments of the present…
An approach is proposed to calculate Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) in a Constituent Quark Model (CQM) scenario, considering the constituent quarks as complex systems. The GPDs are obtained from the wave functions of the non relativistic CQM of Isgur and Karl, convoluted with the GPDs of the constituent quarks themselves. The latter are modelled by using the structure functions of the constituent quark, the double distribution representation of GPDs, and a recently proposed phenomenological constituent quark form factor. The present approach permits to access a kinematical range corre…
Stable charged heavy leptons and quarks can exist and hide in elusive atoms, bound by Coulomb attraction and playing the role of dark matter. However, in the expanding Universe it is not possible to recombine all the charged particles into such atoms, and the positively charged particles, which escape this recombination, bind with electrons in atoms of anomalous isotopes with pregalactic abundance, exceeding substantially the terrestrial upper limits. This abundance can not be reduced in the dense matter bodies, if negatively charged particles have charge -1. Therefore composite dark matter ca…
Based on the bound state description of the muon and general relativistic covariant quantum field theory, we illustrate with a simple composite model that the observed deviation of (g-2)_μcan be a demonstration of the substructure of the muon and give the constraints on the radius of the muon in different cases of light constituents and heavy constituents.
An approach, recently proposed to calculate the nucleon generalized parton distributions (GPDs) in a constituent quark model (CQM) scenario, in which the constituent quarks are taken as complex systems, is used to obtain helicity-dependent GPDs. They are obtained from the wave functions of the non relativistic CQM of Isgur and Karl, convoluted with the helicity-dependent GPDs of the constituent quarks themselves. The latter are modelled by using the polarized structure functions of the constituent quark, the double distribution representation of GPDs, and a phenomenological constituent quark f…
A composite model of quarks and bosons is proposed in which a spin $1/2$ isospin doublet $ψ$ is the basic building block of quarks and bosons in the standard model. The $ψ$ has two components $v$ and $w$ with charges $Q=\frac{1}{3}e$ and $Q=0$, respectively, that combine to form the three generations of colored quark flavors. A strong force described by a triplet of massless gluons bind the constituents called geminis. The confining constituent non-Abelian $SU(2)_C$ field theory is called constituent dynamics with a confining energy scale $Λ_{CD}$. The constituent dynamics condensate $\langle\…
A composite model of quarks and bosons is proposed in which a spin $1/2$ isospin doublet $ψ$ is the basic building block of quarks, $W^\pm$, $Z^0$ and Higgs boson $H^0$ in the standard model. The $ψ$ has two components $α$ and $β$ with charges $Q_α=\frac{2}{3}e$ and $Q_β=-\frac{1}{3}e$, respectively. The two constituent flavors $α$ and $β$ combine to form the three generations of colored standard model quark flavors. A triplet of massless hypergluons binds the constituents called geminis. The strong confining non-Abelian $SU(2)_C$ constituent color dynamics has a confining energy scale $Λ_{CD}…
We study neutral dark matter candidates with a nonzero magnetic dipole moment. We assume that they are composite states of new fermions related to the strong phase of a new gauge interaction. In particular, invoking a dark flavor symmetry, we analyze the composition structure of viable candidates depending on the assignations of hypercharge and the multiplets associated to the fundamental constituents of the extended sector. We determine the magnetic dipole moments for the neutral composite states in terms of their constituents masses.
Composite dark matter is a natural setting for implementing inelastic dark matter - the O(100 keV) mass splitting arises from spin-spin interactions of constituent fermions. In models where the constituents are charged under an axial U(1) gauge symmetry that also couples to the Standard Model quarks, dark matter scatters inelastically off Standard Model nuclei and can explain the DAMA/LIBRA annual modulation signal. This article describes the early Universe cosmology of a minimal implementation of a composite inelastic dark matter model where the dark matter is a meson composed of a light and …
The leptons, quarks and weak bosons are bound states of new constituents. An isosinglet weak boson should exist, the X particle, which might have a mass of about 400 GeV and a width of about 20 GeV.
The existence of cosmological dark matter is in the bedrock of the modern cosmology. The dark matter is assumed to be nonbaryonic and to consist of new stable particles. However if composite dark matter contains stable electrically charged leptons and quarks bound by ordinary Coulomb interaction in elusive dark atoms, these charged constituents of dark atoms can be the subject of direct experimental test at the colliders. In such models the excessive negatively double charged particles are bound with primordial helium in O-helium atoms, maintaining specific nuclear-interacting form of the dark…
Direct searches for dark matter lead to serious problems for simple models with stable neutral Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs) as candidates for dark matter. A possibility is discussed that new stable quarks and charged leptons exist and are hidden from detection, being bound in neutral dark atoms of composite dark matter. Stable -2 charged particles $O^{--}$ are bound with primordial helium in O-helium (OHe) atoms, being specific nuclear interacting form of composite dark matter. The positive results of DAMA experiments can be explained as annual modulation of radiative capture o…
Starting from a N=1 scalar supermultiplet in 2+1 dimensions, we demonstrate explicitly the appearance of induced N=1 vector and scalar supermultiplets of composite operators made out of the fundamental supersymmetric constituents. We discuss an extension to a N=2 superalgebra with central extension, due to the existence of topological currents in 2+1 dimensions. As a specific model we consider a supersymmetric $CP^1$ $σ$-model as the constituent theory, and discuss the relevance of these results for an effective description of the infrared dynamics of planar high-temperature superconducting co…
We consider the model of composite dark matter assuming stable particles of charge $-2$ bound with primordial helium nuclei by Coulomb force in $O$He atoms. We study capture of such dark atoms in matter and propose a possibility of existence of stable $O$-enriched superheavy nuclei and $O$-nuclearites, in which heavy $O$-dark matter fermions are bound by electromagnetic forces with ordinary nuclear matter. $O$He atoms accumulation in stars and its possible effect in stellar evolution is also considered, extending the set of indirect probes for composite dark matter.

In a scenario where the constituent quarks are composite systems, Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) are built from wave functions to be evaluated in a Constituent Quark Model (CQM), convoluted with the GPDs of the constituent quarks themselves. The approach permits to access the kinematical range corresponding to the DGLAP and ERBL regions, so that cross sections for deeply virtual Compton scattering could be estimated.
We extend our relativistic theory of electroweak properties of composite systems to describe simultaneously the gravitational form factors of hadrons. The approach is based on a version of the instant-form relativistic quantum mechanics and makes use of the modified impulse approximation. We exploit the general method of the relativistic invariant parametrizaton of local operators to write the energy-momentum tensor of a particle with an arbitrary spin. We use the obtained results to calculate the gravitational form factors of the pion assuming point-like constituent quarks. All but one parame…
The relevance of measuring Generalized Parton Distributions (GPDs) for few nucleon systems is illustrated. An approach which permits to calculate the GPDs of hadrons made of composite constituents by proper convolutions is described. The application of the method to the nucleon target, assumed to be made of composite constituents is reviewed. Calculations of GPDs for few nucleon systems are summarized, with special emphasis to the $^3$He target.
We propose a description of the Higgs boson as top-antitop quark bound state within a nonlocal relativistic quark model of Nambu - Jona-Lasinio type. In contrast to model with local four-fermion interaction, the mass of the scalar bound state can be lighter than the sum of its constituents. This is achieved by adjusting the interaction range and the value of the coupling constant to experimental data, for both the top quark mass and the scalar Higgs boson mass, which can simultaneously be described.
We analyze the zero point energy of composite particles (or resonances) which are dynamically created from relativistic fermions. We compare the zero point energies in medium to the vacuum one, taking into account the medium modification of the constituent particles. Treating composite particles as if quasi-particles, their zero point energies contain the quadratic and logarithmic UV divergences even after the vacuum subtraction. The coefficients of these divergences come from the difference between the vacuum and in-medium fermion propagators. We argue that such apparent divergences can be ca…
In continuation of our model of composite electron, its companion neutrinos, photon and electro-weak gauge bosons as well as their super-partners based on extended Lorentz group $SU(3)\otimes SU(3)$ in (8+1) dimensional space-time, we show that the remaining leptons, quarks, lepto-quarks and gluons as well as their respective super-partners can be considered as composites of fundamental particles belonging to the $5\otimes 5$ dimensional representation of the further extended Lorentz group $SU(5)\otimes SU(5)$ in (24+1) dimensional space-time. The fundamental particles constituting the composi…
We study the question of whether a composite structure of elementary particles, with a length scale $1/Λ$, can leave observable effects of non-locality and causality violation at higher energies (but $\lesssim Λ$). We formulate a model-independent approach based on Bogoliubov-Shirkov formulation of causality. We analyze the relation between the fundamental theory (of finer constituents) and the derived theory (of composite particles). We assume that the fundamental theory is causal and formulate a condition which must be fulfilled for the derived theory to be causal. We analyze the condition a…
In the bound state in continuum (BIC) the mass of a composite particle is greater than the total mass of its constituent particles. The BIC states that are stable due to confinement mechanisms, have been found in various fields but particle physics has evolved without analyzing these states. The work's idea is to apply the BIC phenomenon to some elementary particles. The study focuses on a composite fermion of the three light leptons, $(e^{-}e^{+}e^{\pm})_{BIC}$. In the present theory the free electron and free positron is treated as different particles, each being characterized by the complet…
We use a version of the instant-form relativistic quantum mechanics of composite systems to obtain the gravitational form factors of the pion in a common approach to its electroweak and gravitational properties. In the preceding work [arXiv:2010.11640] we formulated the mathematical background, presented the principal scheme of calculation and testified the obtained qualitative results to satisfy the general constraints given by the principles of the theory of hadron structure. In the present work we give the detailed calculation of the gravitational form factors in large range of momentum tra…
The Composite Particles Model (CPM) is characterized by composite Higgs, composite top quark, cancelation of the scalar leading quadratic divergences, and a particular ground state such that top anti-top channel is neither attractive or repulsive at tree level at the Z pole mass. The radiatively generated scalar mass in 2D is m_H=\sqrt((6m_t^2 -M_Z^2-2M_w^2)/3(1+π/k))= 113 GeV/c^2,143 GeV/c^2,...,230 GeV/c^2 for k = 1,2,...\infty. As first proposed by Nambu in the simplest models with dynamical mass generation and fermion condensate in 4D, one expects the Higgs mass on the order of twice the h…
