We study electron transport through a triple quantum dot in ring configuration at finite bias. In particular, we analyze the influence of a gate voltage that detunes one of the dots, such that one branch of the interferometer becomes off-resonant. It turns out that then interference effects fade away, i.e., the current becomes independent of a penetrating flux and the detuning. The noise properties which are characterized by the full-counting statistics, however, are governed by bunching effects that may be tuned by the gate voltage. Analytical results for limiting cases support this picture. A possible application is the construction of current sources with widely tunable shot noise properties.
Addressing the feasibility of quantum communication with entangled electrons in an interacting many-body environment, we propose an interference experiment using a scattering set-up with an entangler and a beam splitter. It is shown that, due to electron-electron interaction, the fidelity of the entangled singlet and triplet states is reduced by z_F^2 in a conductor described by Fermi liquid theory. We calculate the quasiparticle weight factor z_F for a two-dimensional electron system. The current noise for electronic singlet states turns out to be enhanced (bunching behavior), while it is red…
We investigate decoherence in a triple quantum dot in ring configuration in which one dot is coupled to a damped phonon mode, while the other two dots are connected to source and drain, respectively. In the absence of decoherence, single electron transport may get blocked by an electron falling into a superposition decoupled from the drain and known as dark state. Phonon-mediated decoherence affects this superposition and leads to a finite current. We study the current and its shot noise numerically within a master equation approach for the electrons and the dissipative phonon mode. A polaron …
The Fano factor stability diagram of a C$_{3v}$ symmetric triangular quantum dot is analysed for increasing electron fillings $N$. At low filling, conventional Poissonian and sub-Poissonian behavior is found. At larger filling, $N\ge 2$, a breaking of the electron-hole symmetry is manifested in super-Poissonian noise with a peculiar bias voltage dependence of the Fano factor at Coulomb and interference blockade. An analysis of the Fano map unravels a nontrivial electron bunching mechanism arising from the presence of degenerate many-body states combined with orbital interference and Coulomb in…
We investigate the interplay between long-range and direct photon-assisted transport in a triple quantum dot chain where local ac voltages are applied to the outer dots. We propose the phase difference between the two ac voltages as an external parameter, which can be easily tuned to manipulate the current characteristics. For gate voltages in phase opposition we find quantum destructive interferences analogous to the interferences in closed-loop undriven triple dots. As the voltages oscillate in phase, interferences between multiple paths give rise to dark states. Those totally cancel the cur…
An electron interferometer was designed and fabricated via a normal metal/insulator/ferromagnet non-local lateral spin valve with a ring-shaped normal metal/insulator spacer, and spin current interference was observed. A very high spin signal of 200 m$Ω$ was found in a device with 2 $μ$m injector-detector distance and magnetic field swept parallel to the plane. With a perpendicular magnetic field sweep, a Hanle effect measurement showed both spin precession and $h/e$ oscillation. Because of the non-adiabatic nature of the precessing spins at low fields as they traverse the normal metal ring, t…
Arrays of circuit cavities offer fascinating perspectives for exploring quantum many-body systems in a driven dissipative regime where excitation losses are continuously compensated by coherent input drives. Here we investigate a system consisting of three transmission line resonators, where the two outer ones are driven by coherent input sources and the central resonator interacts with a superconducting qubit. Whereas a low excitation number regime of such a device has been considered previously with a numerical integration, we here specifically address the high excitation density regime. We …
We consider a scattering set-up with an entangler and beam splitter where the current noise exhibits bunching behavior for electronic singlet states and antibunching behavior for triplet states. We show that the entanglement of two electrons in the double-dot can be detected in mesoscopic transport measurements. In the cotunneling regime the singlet and triplet states lead to phase-coherent current contributions of opposite signs and to Aharonov-Bohm and Berry phase oscillations in response to magnetic fields. We analyze the Fermi liquid effects in the transport of entangled electrons.
We study shot noise for entangled electrons in a 4-lead beam-splitter with one incoming lead driven by adiabatically rotating magnetic fields. We propose a setup of an adiabatically rotating magnetic field therefor, which is appropriate for an electron beam to transport through. Using the scattering matrix approach, we find that shot noise for the singlet and that for the entangled triplet oscillates between bunching and antibunching due to the influence of the Berry phase. It provides us a new approach for testing the Berry phase in electron transport on the basis of entanglement.
We review our recent contributions on shot noise for entangled electrons and spin-polarized currents in novel mesoscopic geometries. We first discuss some of our recent proposals for electron entanglers involving a superconductor coupled to a double dot in the Coulomb blockade regime, a superconductor tunnel-coupled to Luttinger-liquid leads, and a triple-dot setup coupled to Fermi leads. We calculate current and shot noise for spin-polarized currents and entangled/unentangled electron pairs in a beam-splitter geometry with a \textit{local} Rashba spin-orbit (s-o) interaction in the incoming l…
We have recently calculated shot noise for entangled and spin-polarized electrons in novel beam-splitter geometries with a local Rashba s-o interaction in the incoming leads. This interaction allows for a gate-controlled rotation of the incoming electron spins. Here we present an alternate simpler route to the shot noise calculation in the above work and focus on only electron pairs. Shot noise for these shows continuous bunching and antibunching behaviors. In addition, entangled and unentangled triplets yield distinctive shot noise oscillations. Besides allowing for a direct way to identify t…
We propose the interaction of two electrons in a triple quantum dot as a minimal system to control long range superexchange transitions. These are probed by transport spectroscopy. Narrow resonances appear indicating the transfer of charge from one side of the sample to the other with the central one being occupied only virtually. We predict that two different intermediate states establish the two arms of a one dimensional interferometer. Configurations of destructive interference of the two superexchage trajectories totally block the current through the system. We emphasize the role of spin c…
Applying high power continuous-wave resonant s-shell excitation to a single self-assembled In- GaAs quantum dot, we demonstrate the generation of post-selected single-indistinguishable photons from the Mollow triplet sidebands. A sophisticated spatial filtering technique based on a double Michelson interferometer enabled us to separate the spectrally close lying individual Mollow components and perform almost background free two-photon interference measurements. Showing high consistency with the results of an independent determination of the emission coherence of 250 +/- 30 ps, our analysis re…
We study shot noise for spin-polarized currents and entangled electron pairs in a four-probe (beam splitter) geometry with a local Rashba spin-orbit (s-o) interaction in the incoming leads. Within the scattering formalism we find that shot noise exhibits Rashba-induced oscillations with continuous bunching and antibunching. We show that entangled states and triplet states can be identified via their Rashba phase in noise measurements. For two-channel leads we find an additional spin rotation due to s-o induced interband coupling which provides enhanced spin control. We show that the s-o intera…
We consider a one-dimensional (1D) wire along which single conduction electrons can propagate in the presence of two spin-1/2 magnetic impurities. The electron may be scattered by each impurity via a contact-exchange interaction and thus a spin-flip generally occurs at each scattering event. Adopting a quantum waveguide theory approach, we derive the stationary states of the system at all orders in the electron-impurity exchange coupling constant. This allows us to investigate electron transmission for arbitrary initial states of the two impurity spins. We show that for suitable electron wave …
We study a Hanbury Brown and Twiss (HBT) interferometer formed with chiral edge channels of a quantum Hall system. HBT cross-correlations are calculated for a device operating both in the integer and fractional quantum Hall regimes, the latter at Laughlin filling fractions. We find that in both cases, when the current is dominated by electron tunneling, current-current correlations show antibunching, characteristic of fermionic correlations. When the current-current correlations are dominated by quasiparticle tunneling, the correlations reveal bunching, characteristic of bosons. For electron t…
The photoluminescence spectrum of a single quantum dot was recorded as a secondary resonant laser optically dressed either the vacuum-to-exciton or the exciton-to-biexciton transitions. High-resolution polarization-resolved measurements using a scanning Fabry-Perot interferometer reveal splittings of the linearly-polarized fine-structure states that are non-degenerate in an asymmetric quantum dot. These splittings manifest as either triplets or doublets and depend sensitively on laser intensity and detuning. Our approach realizes complete resonant control of a multi-excitonic system in emissio…
We design an ingenious spintronic quantum eraser to quantitatively probe the two-electron entanglement. It is shown that the concurrence of two spin-entangled electrons is directly given by the Aharonov-Bohm oscillation amplitude of the Fano factor, a measurable current-current correlation, making it rather promising to experimentally quantify the two-electron entanglement. The singlet and triplet entangled states are distinguished by the opposite signs in the Fano factor. Since the main building blocks in the designed setup, an electronic Mach-Zehnder interferometer and a spin filter, have al…
If the states of spins in solids can be created, manipulated, and measured at the single-quantum level, an entirely new form of information processing, quantum computing and quantum communication, will be possible. We review our proposed spin-quantum dot architecture for a quantum computer and review some recent results on a deterministic source of entanglement generated by coupling quantum dots. Addressing the feasibility of quantum communication with entangled electrons we consider a scattering set-up with an entangler and beam splitter where the current noise exhibits bunching behavior for …
We extend our previous work on shot noise for entangled and spin polarized electrons in a beam-splitter geometry with spin-orbit (\textit{s-o}) interaction in one of the incoming leads (lead 1). Besides accounting for both the Dresselhaus and the Rashba spin-orbit terms, we present general formulas for the shot noise of singlet and triplets states derived within the scattering approach. We determine the full scattering matrix of the system for the case of leads with \textit{two} orbital channels coupled via weak \textit{s-o} interactions inducing channel anticrossings. We show that this interb…
We investigate the conductance of an Aharonov-Bohm (AB) interferometer coupled to a quantum dot and two Majorana bound states on the edge of the topological superconductor with finite length. When the tunnel couplings between the Majorana bound states and the Aharonov-Bohm interferometer are fixed to the specific phase, the differential conductance becomes zero irrespective of all the parameters as long as the hoppings to the two Majorana fermions on the opposite side are equal. The conductance at the zero bias voltage does not change with the magnetic flux penetrating the ring for all cases. …
We demonstrate delicate control over the Kondo effect and its interplay with quantum interference in an Aharonov-Bohm interferometer containing one Kondo dot and one noninteracting dot. It is shown that the Kondo resonance undergoes a dramatic evolution as the interdot tunnel coupling progressively increases. A novel triple Kondo splitting occurs from the interference between constant and Lorentzian conduction bands that cooperate in forming the Kondo singlet. The device also manifests a highly controllable Fano-Kondo effect in coherent electronic transport, and can be tuned to a regime where …
