Gardiner-Masur boundary of Teichmuller space : Vanishing subsurfaces and Uniquely ergodic boundary points

In this paper, we investigate the structure of the Gardiner-Masur boundary of Teichmuller space. Indeed, we will give a geometric description of boundary comparing to the Duchin-Leininger-Rafi compactification of the space of singular flat structures. We will obtain the coincidence between the Gardiner-Masur boundary and the Thurston boundary at the projective classes of uniquely ergodic measured foliations. We also study the action of the mapping class group on the Gardiner-Masur boundary and characterize the elements by fixed points. This paper has been withdrawn by the author. Convergence of some horocyclic deformations to the Gardiner-Masur boundary

We introduce a deformation of Riemann surfaces and we are interested in the convergence of this deformation to a point of the Gardiner-masur boundary of Teichmueller space. This deformation, which we call the horocyclic deformation, is directed by a projective measured foliation and belongs to a certain horocycle in a Teichmueller disc. Using works of Marden and Masur and works of Miyachi, we show that the horocyclic deformation converges if its direction is given by a simple closed curve or a uniquely ergodic measured foliation.

Convergence of earthquake and horocycle paths to the boundary of Teichmüller space

We study the convergence of earthquake paths and horocycle paths in the Gardiner-Masur compactification of Teichmüller space. We show that an earthquake path directed by a uniquely ergodic or simple closed measured geodesic lamination converges to the Gardiner-Masur boundary. Using the embedding of flat metrics into the space of geodesic currents, we prove that a horocycle path in Teichmüller space, induced by a quadratic differential whose vertical measured foliation is unique ergodic, converges to the Gardiner-Masur boundary and to the Thurston boundary.

A new boundary of the mapping class group

Based on the action of the mapping class group on the space of measured foliations, we construct a new boundary of the mapping class group and study the structure of this boundary. As an application, for any point in Teichmuller space, we consider the orbit of this point under the action of the mapping class group and describe the closure of this orbit in the Thurston compactification and the Gardiner-Masur compactification of Teichmuller space. We also construct some new points in the Gardiner-Masur boundary of Teichmuller space.

Masur's criterion does not hold in the Thurston metric

We construct a counterexample for an analogue of Masur's criterion in the setting of Teichmüller space equipped with the Thurston metric. For that, we find a minimal, filling, non-uniquely ergodic lamination $λ$ on the seven-times punctured sphere with uniformly bounded annular projection distances. Then we show that a geodesic in the corresponding Teichmüller space that converges to $λ$, stays in the thick part for the whole time.

Unification of extremal length geometry on Teichmuller space via intersection number

In this paper, we give a framework for the study of the extremal length geometry of Teichmüller space after S. Kerckhoff, F. Gardiner and H. Masur. There is a natural compactification using extremal length geometry introduced by Gardiner and Masur. The compactification is realized in a certain projective space. We develop the extremal length geometry in the cone which is defined as the inverse image of the compactification via the quotient mapping. The asymptotic geometry of the Teichmüller metric

We determine the asymptotic behaviour of extremal length along arbitrary Teichmüller rays. This allows us to calculate the endpoint in the Gardiner-Masur boundary of any Teichmüller ray. We give a proof that this compactification is the same as the horofunction compactification. An important subset of the latter is the set of Busemann points. We show that the Busemann points are exactly the limits of the Teichmüller rays, and we give a necessary and sufficient condition for a sequence of Busemann points to converge to a Busemann point. Finally, we determine the detour metric on the boundary.

Exponential mixing for the Teichmuller flow

We study the dynamics of the Teichmuller flow in the moduli space of Abelian differentials (and more generally, its restriction to any connected component of a stratum). We show that the (Masur-Veech) absolutely continuous invariant probability measure is exponentially mixing for the class of Holder observables. A geometric consequence is that the $\SL(2,\R)$ action in the moduli space has a spectral gap.

The Boundary at Infinity of the Curve Complex and the Relative Teichmüller Space

In this paper we study the boundary at infinity of the curve complex $\mathcal{C}(S)$ of a surface $S$ of finite type and the relative Teichmüller space $\mathcal{T}_{el}(S)$ obtained from the Teichmüller space by collapsing each region where a simple closed curve is short to be a set of diameter 1. $\mathcal{C}(S)$ and $\mathcal{T}_{el}(S)$ are quasi-isometric, and Masur-Minsky have shown that $\mathcal{C}(S)$ and $\mathcal{T}_{el}(S)$ are hyperbolic in the sense of Gromov. Recurrent Weil-Petersson geodesic rays with non-uniquely ergodic ending laminations

We construct Weil-Petersson (WP) geodesic rays with minimal filling non-uniquely ergodic ending lamination which are recurrent to a compact subset of the moduli space of Riemann surfaces. This construction shows that an analogue of the Masur's criterion for Teichmüller geodesics does not hold for WP geodesics.

Partial sums of excursions along random geodesics and volume asymptotics for thin parts of moduli spaces of quadratic differentials

For a non-uniform lattice in SL(2,R), we consider excursions in cusp neighborhoods of a random geodesic on the corresponding finite area hyperbolic surface or orbifold. We prove a strong law for a certain partial sum involving these excursions. This generalizes a theorem of Diamond and Vaaler for continued fractions. A dense geodesic ray in the $Out(F_r)$-quotient of reduced Outer Space

In 1981 Masur proved the existence of a dense geodesic in the moduli space for a Teichmüller space. We prove an analogue theorem for reduced Outer Space endowed with the Lipschitz metric.
