We propose an alternative factorization for the simple harmonic oscillator hamiltonian which includes Mielnik's isospectral factorization as a particular case. This factorization is realized in two non-mutually adjoint operators whose inverse product, in the simplest case, lead to a new Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue equation which includes Schrodinger's equation for the oscillator and Hermite's equation as particular cases for limiting values of the factorization's parameter, and whose eigenfunctions allow us to define new generalized Hermite functions.
Using the Riesz-Feller fractional derivative, we apply the factorization algorithm to the fractional quantum harmonic oscillator along the lines previously proposed by Olivar-Romero and Rosas-Ortiz, extending their results. We solve the non-Hermitian fractional eigenvalue problem in the k space by introducing in that space a new class of Hermite `polynomials' that we call Riesz-Feller Hermite `polynomials'. Using the inverse Fourier transform in Mathematica, interesting analytic results for the same eigenvalue problem in the x space are also obtained. Additionally, a more general factorization…
We introduce an alternative factorization of the Hamiltonian of the quantum harmonic oscillator which leads to a two-parameter self-adjoint operator from which the standard harmonic oscillator, the one-parameter oscillators introduced by Mielnik, and the Hermite operator are obtained in certain limits of the parameters. In addition, a single Bernoulli-type parameter factorization which is different of the one introduced by M. A. Reyes, H. C. Rosu, and M. R. Gutierrez, Phys. Lett. A 375 (2011) 2145 is briefly discussed in the final part of this work
By factorization of the Hamiltonian describing the quantum mechanics of the continuous q-Hermite polynomial, the creation and annihilation operators of the q-oscillator are obtained. They satisfy a q-oscillator algebra as a consequence of the shape-invariance of the Hamiltonian. A second set of q-oscillator is derived from the exact Heisenberg operator solution. Now the q-oscillator stands on the equal footing to the ordinary harmonic oscillator.
We introduce and study natural generalisations of the Hermite and Laguerre polynomials in the ring of symmetric functions as eigenfunctions of infinite-dimensional analogues of partial differential operators of Calogero-Moser-Sutherland (CMS) type. In particular, we obtain generating functions, duality relations, limit transitions from Jacobi symmetric functions, and Pieri formulae, as well as the integrability of the corresponding operators. We also determine all ideals in the ring of symmetric functions that are spanned by either Hermite or Laguerre symmetric functions, and by restriction of…
For a sequence $P=(p_n(x))_{n=0}^{\infty}$ of polynomials $p_n(x)$, we study the $K$-tuple and $L$-shifted exponential lacunary generating functions $\mathcal{G}_{K,L}(λ;x):=\sum_{n=0}^{\infty}\frac{λ^n}{n!} p_{n\cdot K+L}(x)$, for $K=1,2\dotsc$ and $L=0,1,2\dotsc$. We establish an algorithm for efficiently computing $\mathcal{G}_{K,L}(λ;x)$ for generic polynomial sequences $P$. This procedure is exemplified by application to the study of Hermite polynomials, whereby we obtain closed-form expressions for $\mathcal{G}_{K,L}(λ;x)$ for arbitrary $K$ and $L$, in the form of infinite series involvi…
We propose a general method to construct symmetric tensor polynomials in the D-dimensional Euclidean space which are orthonormal under a general weight. The D-dimensional Hermite polynomials are a particular case of the present ones for the case of a gaussian weight. Hence we obtain generalizations of the Legendre and of the Chebyshev polynomials in D dimensions that reduce to the respective well-known orthonormal polynomials in D=1 dimensions. We also obtain new D-dimensional polynomials orthonormal under other weights, such as the Fermi-Dirac, Bose-Einstein, Graphene equilibrium distribution…
In this paper, we obtain some new explicit travelling wave solutions of the perturbed KdV equation through recent factorization techniques that can be performed when the coefficients of the equation fulfill a certain condition. The solutions are obtained by using a two-step factorization procedure through which the perturbed KdV equation is reduced to a nonlinear second order differential equation, and to some Bernoulli and Abel type differential equations whose solutions are expressed in terms of the exponential and Weierstrass functions
Recently, we introduced a new class of symmetry algebras, called satellite algebras, which connect with one another wavefunctions belonging to different potentials of a given family, and corresponding to different energy eigenvalues. Here the role of the factorization method in the construction of such algebras is investigated. A general procedure for determining an so(2,2) or so(2,1) satellite algebra for all the Hamiltonians that admit a type E factorization is proposed. Such a procedure is based on the known relationship between type A and E factorizations, combined with an algebraization s…
We determine the kind of parametric oscillators that are generated in the usual factorization procedure of second-order linear differential equations when one introduces a constant shift of the Riccati solution of the classical harmonic oscillator. The mathematical results show that some of these oscillators could be of physical nature. We give the solutions of the obtained second-order differential equations and the values of the shift parameter providing strictly periodic and antiperiodic solutions. We also notice that this simple problem presents parity-time (PT) symmetry. Possible applicat…
The Renyi, Shannon and Fisher spreading lengths of the classical or hypergeometric orthogonal polynomials, which are quantifiers of their distribution all over the orthogonality interval, are defined and investigated. These information-theoretic measures of the associated Rakhmanov probability density, which are direct measures of the polynomial spreading in the sense of having the same units as the variable, share interesting properties: invariance under translations and reflections, linear scaling and vanishing in the limit that the variable tends towards a given definite value. The expressi…
The transformation of the path integral measure under the reduction procedure in the dynamical systems with a symmetry is considered. The investigation is carried out in the case of the Wiener--type path integrals that are used for description of the diffusion on a smooth compact Riemannian manifold with the given free isometric action of the compact semisimple unimodular Lie group. The transformation of the path integral, which factorizes the path integral measure, is based on the application of the optimal nonlinear filtering equation from the stochastic theory. The integral relation between…
Travelling-wave solutions of the standard and compound form of Korteweg-de Vries-Burgers equations are found using factorizations of the corresponding reduced ordinary differential equations. The procedure leads to solutions of Bernoulli equations of nonlinearity 3/2 and 2 (Riccati), respectively. Introducing the initial conditions through an imaginary phase in the travelling coordinate, we obtain all the solutions previously reported, some of them being corrected here, and showing, at the same time, the presence of interesting details of these solitary waves that have been overlooked before t…
We show how one can obtain kink solutions of ordinary differential equations with polynomial nonlinearities by an efficient factorization procedure directly related to the factorization of their nonlinear polynomial part. We focus on reaction-diffusion equations in the travelling frame and damped-anharmonic-oscillator equations. We also report an interesting pairing of the kink solutions, a result obtained by reversing the factorization brackets in the supersymmetric quantum mechanical style. In this way, one gets ordinary differential equations with a different polynomial nonlinearity possess…
We consider factorizations of the stationary and non-stationary Schroedinger equation in R^n which are based on appropriate Dirac operators. These factorizations lead to a Miura transform which is an analogue of the classical one-dimensional Miura transform but also closely related to the Riccati equation. In fact, the Miura transform is a nonlinear Dirac equation. We give an iterative procedure which is based on fix-point principles to solve this nonlinear Dirac equation. The relationship to nonlinear Schroedinger equations like the Gross-Pitaevskii equation are highlighted.
We apply the Dirac factorization method to the nonrelativistic harmonic oscillator and, more in general, to Hamiltonians with a generic potential. It is shown that this procedure naturally leads to a supersymmetric formulation of the problems under study. It is also speculated on the physical meaning underlying this method and it is suggested that the vacuum field fluctuations can be viewed as the spontaneous emission of the associated two-level system, whose quantization is due to the noncommuting nature of the harmonic oscillator canonical variables.
Following a letter by Bassett, we show first that it is possible to find an analytical approximation to the error function in terms of a finite series of hyperbolic tangents from the supersymmetric (SUSY) solution of the Poschl-Teller eigenvalue problem in quantum mechanics (QM). Afterwards, we show that the second order differential equation for the derivatives of Dawson's function can be found in another SUSY related eigenvalue problem, where the factorization of the simple harmonic oscillator Hamiltonian renders the wrong-sign Hermite differential equation, and that Dawson's second order di…
We explicate a procedure to solve general linear differential equations, which connects the desired solutions to monomials x^m of an appropriate degree m. In the process the underlying symmetry of the equations under study, as well as that of the solutions are made transparent. We demonstrate the efficacy of the method by showing the common structure of the solution space of a wide variety of differential equations viz. Hermite, Laguerre, Jocobi, Bessel and hypergeometric etc. We also illustrate the use of the procedure to develop approximate solutions, as well as in finding solutions of many …
A matrix factorization problem is considered. The matrix to be factorized is algebraic, has dimension 2 X 2 and belongs to Moiseev's class. A new method of factorization is proposed. First, the matrix factorization problem is reduced to a Riemann-Hilbert problem using the Hurd's method. Secondly, the Riemann-Hilbert problem is embedded into a family of Riemann-Hilbert problems indexed by a variable b taking values on a half-line. A linear ordinary differential equation (ODE1) with respect to b is derived. The coefficient of this equation remains unknown at this step. Finally, the coefficient o…
General solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (ODEs) are in general difficult to find although powerful integrability techniques exist in the literature for this purpose. It has been shown that in some scalar cases particular solutions may be found with little effort if it is possible to factorize the equation in terms of first order differential operators. In our present study we use this factorization technique to address the problem of finding solutions of a system of general two-coupled Liénard type nonlinear differential equations. We describe a generic algorithm to ident…
