How to erase surface plasmon fringes

Surface Plasmon Polariton Mach-Zehnder Interferometer and Oscillation Fringes

We present a quantitative experimental analysis of a surface plasmon polariton (SPP) interferometer relying on elliptical Bragg mirrors. By using a leakage radiation microscope we observe oscillation fringes with unit visibility at the two interferometer exits. We study the properties of the SPP beam splitter and determine experimentally both the norm and phase of the SPP reflection and transmission coefficients.

Surface Plasmon Interference Fringes in Back-Reflection

We report the experimental observation of surface plasmon polariton (SPP) interference fringes with near-unity visibility and half-wavelength periodicity obtained in back reflection on a Bragg mirror. The presented method based on leakage radiation microscopy (LRM) represents an alternative solution to optical near-field analysis and opens new ways for the quantitative analysis of SPP fringes. With LRM we investigate various SPP interference patterns and analyze the high reflectivity of Bragg mirror in comparison with theoretical models.

Controlling plasmonic Bloch modes on periodic nanostructures

We study and actively control the coherent properties of Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPPs) optically exited on a nano-hole array. Amplitude and phase of the optical excitation are externally controlled via a digital spatial light modulator (SLM) and SPP interference fringe patterns are observed with high contrast. Our interferometric observations revel SPPs dressed with the Bloch modes of the periodic nano-structure. Plasmon scattering from holes: from single hole scattering to Young's experiment

In this article, the scattering of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) into photons at holes is investigated. A local, electrically excited source of SPPs using a scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) produces an outgoing circular plasmon wave on a thick (200 nm) gold film on glass containing holes of 250, 500 and 1000 nm diameter.
