A unit test is a method for verifying the accuracy and the proper functioning of a portion of a program. This work consists to study the relation and the approaches to test Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) programs and to propose a metamodel that enables the programmer to write the tests while writing the source code to be tested by exploiting the key features of OOP programming languages such as inheritance, polymorphism, etc.
Constraint-logic object-oriented programming provides a useful symbiosis between object-oriented programming and constraint-logic search. The ability to use logic variables, constraints, non-deterministic search, and object-oriented programming in an integrated way facilitates the combination of search-related program parts and other business logic in object-oriented applications. With this work we conceptualize array-typed logic variables ("free arrays"), thus completing the set of types that logic variables can assume in constraint-logic object-oriented programming. Free arrays exhibit inter…

Many computer models such as cellular automata and artificial neural networks have been developed and successfully applied. However, in some cases, these models might be restrictive on the possible solutions or their solutions might be difficult to interpret. To overcome this problem, we outline a new approach, the so-called allagmatic method, that automatically programs and executes models with as little limitations as possible while maintaining human interpretability. Earlier we described a metamodel and its building blocks according to the philosophical concepts of structure (spatial dimens…
In the field of microservices, Model-Driven Engineering has emerged as a powerful methodology for architectural design, and new programming languages have introduced language abstractions to deal with microservice development more effectively. In this article, we present the first preliminary investigation of how the two approaches can be married, taking the LEMMA framework and the Jolie programming language as respective representatives. By developing a conceptual metamodel for Jolie, we elicit a strong link between the two approaches, which shows that there is much to gain. We discuss a few …
Since the advent of LISP, the fifth generation programming language has developed for decades. However, compared with the fourth generation programming language, the fifth generation programming language has not been widely used because of its obscure semantics, rigorous representation of problems, and limited inference ability. For this reason, COOL (Constraint and Object Ordered Language), a fifth generation programming language proposed in this paper, overcomes the problems of intuitive semantics, rigorous restrictions on handling problem conditions, and improves the inference ability of pr…
Writing parallel codes is difficult and exhibits a fundamental trade-off between abstraction and performance. The high level language abstractions designed to simplify the complexities of parallelism make certain assumptions that impacts performance and scalability. On the other hand lower level languages, providing many opportunities for optimisation, require in-depth knowledge and the programmer to consider tricky details of parallelism. An approach is required which can bridge the gap and provide both the ease of programming and opportunities for control and optimisation. By optionally deco…
The Partitioned Global Address Space memory model has been popularised by a number of languages and applications. However this abstraction can often result in the programmer having to rely on some in built choices and with this implicit parallelism, with little assistance by the programmer, the scalability and performance of the code heavily depends on the compiler and choice of application. We propose an approach, type oriented programming, where all aspects of parallelism are encoded via types and the type system. The type information associated by the programmer will determine, for instance…
The Internet of Things (IoT) is growing fast. In 2018, there was approximately one connected device per person on earth and the number has been growing ever since. The devices interact with the environment via different modalities at the same time using sensors and actuators making the programs parallel. Yet, writing this type of programs is difficult because the devices have little computation power and memory, the platforms are heterogeneous and the languages are low level. Task Oriented Programming (TOP) is a declarative programming language paradigm that is used to express coordination of …
Elegant Objects (EO) is a variation of the object-oriented programming paradigm that favors pure objects and decoration. EO programming language is based on these ideas and has been suggested by Bugayenko as an intermediate representation for object-oriented programs. This paper provides plausible representations in EO of some class-based constructions from Java, C++, and Python. We then reformulate the classical fragile base class problem in the context of these representations. Finally, we discuss an algorithm for detecting a subset of fragile base class patterns in EO programs. We show that…
We present a High-Level Python-based Hardware Description Language (HDPython), It uses Python as its source language and converts it to standard VHDL. Compared to other approaches of building converters from a high-level programming language into a hardware description language, this new approach aims to maintain an object-oriented paradigm throughout the entire process. Instead of removing all the high-level features from Python to make it into an HDL, this approach goes the opposite way. It tries to show how certain features from a high-level language can be implemented in an HDL, providing …
